I absolutely love this bar. It's within walking distance from my apartment, which is very convenient. The people are always friendly and the back porch is my favorite. However, the bar staff is less than exceptional. Not only do they intentionally not recognize your presence, they act like it's a huge inconvenience to get your drink. I've been to my fair share of dive bars. I know a dive when I see one. So, if that's not what you're looking for, keep it moving. For those interested, this is not just a dive, it's an experience. It was like a ride on a psychedelic,TARDIS. IT WAS FRACKING FABULOUS. The people there were just having a great time being who they are and having a few or many drinks,and dancing. Unfettered. Happy. Fancy free. I kid you not, this was a really great experience for me. People watching is a habit I got into in NY. No other place compared until now. I LOVE the many ways people express themselves through their clothing, hair, attitudes... and The Goat was not missing a thing. The sheer variety of people..it's hard to describe... Dive Bars: really not my thing. But sometimes we have to compromise. Here's a few tips. No parking? Do not park in Crossfit parking or anything like that. Instead, park across the street in the huge shopping center parking lot. Hungry? Get a pizza from next door and bring it over. The pizza is wonderful. Somehow, The Goat has managed to put a pool table, a band stage, and a variety of table sizes and heights in a really small venue. I like the tall bar stools with backs on them at the bar height table. The people were all friendly, smiling, laughing. Several small tv's play whatever game is on. OMG...I am in LOVE with this place. Had a group event there last night and on the spot felt at home. Wednesday night brings karaoke and for the first time in ages I sang. The PBR were $2.00 and our bartender kept 'em coming. They do not serve food (which is fine by me) but don't care if you bring it in. There is a pizza place next door. I have a feeling I will begin to frequent this place...I loved it that much! read more

I was in the area and decided to stop by. I usually enjoy a good dive bar experience, so this place met my expectations. The patrons in there were very friendly, and it seems they have a lot of regulars. I ordered a beer, and was happy with the low price for beer there. Let me start by saying I love this place. Great music, down to earth a chill atmosphere. Awesome patio in the back and even when totally packed I haven't waited more than a minute for a drink. My only qualm is the doorman. He is there most nights and has a greasy ponytail under a ballcap, and if you've had fun there i.e. gotten drunk and left, or at all let loose and enjoyed life, he will shit on your night and look for any reason to throw you out, or not let your party in. My friends and I have blown too much cash here having drinks and having fun to the tune of coming about once a week or so, but I'll look for any reason to go elsewhere especially when this prick is at the door. My family and I recently moved here to Dallas from California. I visited Dallas twenty years ago and told myself one day I would return. I have always been a fan of the blues and always looking for live music. This place has both. Not just some dude half heartedly plucking a guitar and attempting to moan a blues ballad, this place is the real deal. I was there on Monday 07/22/13. The place was full of musicians. I was told that it was a whos who of local blues talent. I was in blues heaven. From guitars to harmonica to saxophone, it was awesome. My son even got up and jammed with the the locals. I was told that on Thursday nights it is just as great. We will be there back every chance we get. My fiancée (who recommended we try this joint out) decided to walk to walk next door to The Goat after enjoying some great Mexican food. Let me preface my review with the fact that I love dive bars and blues music. We walked in and were immediately greeted/served by an attentive bartender. I've been going to The Goat every week for a couple months and I love the live Delta blues on Tuesdays. Every week its a great and new musician playing and Aaron Burton the regular blues guy is awesome. I go out there to blues dance and its great music, very danceable. I always want to like The Goat, but I just can't. The previous reviewer who said it was "half honky tonk half hipster" had it mostly right. It's all hipster. If I wanted to get shoved and ignored by "hipsters" I'd spend my nights on McKinney Ave. The karaoke can be entertaining and the drinks are fairly cheap, but parking stinks. Everyone who loves dive bars should definitely check this place out, but be sure to bring cash and you should probably carpool. read more

The worst bartenders in the history of bartenders. If you want a drink, good luck. The old lady there can't count and is most likely to get your drink wrong. Getting their attention is harder than waking sleeping beauty up. I love this place! However they have the worst karaoke guy on sunday. He "looses" the scrap paper he makes you write your songs on. Insults the crowd and is far and away the douchiest guy in the place. Last sunday was the third time i waited almost two hours to sing and never got called. I watched his friends sing twice each and when i confronted him he said he would make it up next week. My friends and i agreed to never come back on sunday untill they loose this guy. On a happier note... Every other night of the week has great music or karaoke. They have great bartenders and decent drink prices. From the great blues bands, cheap drink prices and awesome staff, the Goat is always my primary source for intoxication and great times. The clientele is very diverse from the truckers, bikers, hipster, alcoholics, hair stylists and those in the service industry everyone is welcome. This place is simply fantastic!I went on a Thursday night 12/3/15 there was great live blues music with many different musicians sitting in on the Jam session,from 10pm when I arrived until the place closed at 2am the music never stopped and all the musicians were fantastic and having a great time!The environment was very tidy and they keep picking up cups and bottles as the night went on to keep it tidy!There was no cover to get in and the bottled beer was only $3.00 a pop..Also I did`t see anyone smoking on the inside which means it was not real smoky for non-smokers that may not like smoke.I highly recommend you give this place a try.If the owner reads this great job! (I am the tall bald guy that was out front and I am very happy that I decided to come in and I will be back!) Made an impromptu stop at this fabulous little dive bar after flying in to Dallas for a weekend visit. The bartenders were amazing as were the drinks. The bouncers were friendly and helpful. I love the bartenders, they are so awesome and engaging. People that don't like this place obviously just don't relate to the average person.
