When I first walked in I thought it was seniors night since there were quite a few gray hairdos. But then the band ... the band ... they were playing kickass rock that included covers for Doors, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Satriani, and even a Beatles tune! Hmmm ... those were oldies! The crowd is varied, from a cowboy-looking dude with an eyepatch to nice couples having a good time. It's easy to talk to and make friends there but some reviewers are right. Several had one too many and were talking and acting strange. Two men started talking about UFOs and I told them I came from Roswell :-) The outside patio for smokers had some interesting people. I don't smoke but I don't recognize any of the cigarettes there. A Latina sure looked cute but she told me she's not Hispanic. I said it's all right, don't worry, which seemed to piss her off. Two bikers roared up in their fancy Harleys, inspected the crowd, didn't find anyone or anything interesting and left without buying one drink. Came here to watch the end of the USA-Portugal World Cup match, and arrived just a smidge too late on the tail of a disappointing service and culinary experience with the Cigarz Bona Pizza joint net door (see separate review). The beer here is cold, and the AC is strong. Odd middle aged to elderly people hang at the bar and pool table and karaoke (Best in Dallas, per D mag), entertaining. Prices are appropriate for a dive bar- high points for character and cold summer beer and air. read more

Do not attempt to kareoke here unless you are an American Idol finalist. The many times I have been to the Goat, the singers have always left me in awe. The drinks are cheap which is great! I use to go there with girls of the hipster variety. There were many men at the Goat with hipster staches, tats, and tiiiight pants. If that's what you're into I would recommend it. They do have a cool little patio in the back which is sort of initmate haha. I've had many random conversations with random people back there. The patio is sort of a place of bonding because it is dark and in an alley. Oh yeah, everytime I have gone to the Goat someone gets reeeeallly drunk I mean reeeeeeeeeeally! barely able to stand...so, that's a treat. Oh my lucky-dive-bar-stars! Where do I start with the Goat? Cheap and stiff drinks, check. Fast and friendly service, check. People watching madness, check. Cobra karaoke, check! The Goat is always a good time and favorite of mine for the reasons that it's relaxed, inexpensive, and depending on the karaoke theme, you can be transported to another fun time and place. Cobra karaoke is there on Wednesdays and Sundays... so much fun!!! Our bartender was extremely friendly and in good spirits, even though the group I was in was a little overwhelming. When a server/bartender can be friendly AND get my overly complicated drink order right the first time, that's a really big deal for me... not to mention, our bartender was helping other people beside me. The Goat is BYO Food, but Cigarz is right next door, and if you're in the market for some AH-MAZ-ING Italian food... well, you get the idea! read more

Wow - I have no idea why it took me so long to investigate this gem of a bar. I danced - and danced to the band...had wonderfully cold brewskis and talked to strangers. THIS is my kind of place! The goat, you have erotic photo hunt, and for that I love thee! The machine is located on the bar, near the front door on the left side, which makes it a great location for continuously ordering drinks while you play. As usual, $1 gets you 3 games. The Goat also has karaoke on Sunday nights, which is pretty amusing. Parking, however, can be a bitch, but the guy who takes charge in the lot outside does a great job of navigating you into a spot, even if it looks like there are none left. The drinks are cheap, and the bartenders and co-drinkers are friendly. Most of the crew seem to be young people who work in the industry (i.e. servers), with a mix of local folks. Sundays can get a bit rowdy - not from karaoke arguments - just from people getting too trashed and getting pushy over politics (maybe it was just because it was near the election that I was there last). I visited this place last month with my best friend who just moved to Dallas. HAD A BLAST!!!! I've never been to a karaoke spot that had a live band, a guitarist and a drummer - they were dynamic, picked up on every song that was played. My first impression of this place was it was a hole in a wall, but as time went by, more people came in, and we got drunk, everyone was having a great time and on some songs we were even dancing and singing along. I made a lot of friends that night, and I even keep in touch with one of them now. May I also add....the bartender looked a lot like Keith Urban (hotness!) - and he was a sweetheart :-D BTW.....the drinks are VERY inexpensive, drink to your hearts content (but make sure you have a DD with you) I look forward to coming back here again, I really enjoyed my trip to Dallas it was a blast! read more

This two star review is based on first impressions of one visit. Arrived early in the evening on Friday and it was not very busy. The bar was mostly full and no bartender or service in sight. The Goat (new name) has a cool crowd and a great feel to the place. OK, so the neighborhood is a little rough...duh, it's lower Greenville, people! Besides, do you go bar hopping to feel safe or to rock out with your **** out?? My band plays there a lot these days (The Boogiemen) and we always have a great time. In fact, we're playing there tonight....one of my new favorite spots to jam...and it's not only because the band gets beer comped (which is rare these days)! Be forewarned that due to recent ordinance changes, no smoking in the bar...but they built a nice deck in the back for us smokers. Let me tell you, if there's any discrimination left in America, anti-smoker discrimination is surely at the top of the list! read more

Just a good ole bar to bring your inner superstar out on a Wednesday night with Karaoke. Not sure if they have a variety of "impromptu DJs" to rotate through on Wednesdays. The night I went the lady clicking the iTune songs did not have a wide variety of music genres. Guaranteed she will have your favorite 80s rock or country song from whatever decade, however other genres were very, VERY limited. Went here Sunday night solo to get out of the house & people watch after reading the reviews. Forget the one/two stars - this place is great! There is a he/she apparent regular but I only saw him/her sing 3 times in 4 hours, and it was good (It being the songs not the person who identifies as whatever he/she identifies as). The other karaoke singers rotated constantly. The crowd was as diverse as you can get and most of the singers were pretty good. Met several interesting people and watched the most beautiful woman I've seen in a long time tend bar, aside her attractive & inked coworker. Loved the ink on both and beautiful wears a band. There were a few drunk obnoxious fuckers there, mostly young guys, and this one older lady. I watched her annoy the bartenders more & more as the night went on. All in all, an excellent little dive bar, I will be back. That being said the drink prices/pours weren't great. I paid $6 for a Rumple shot, $6 for a VO & water, $4 for a Stella bottle (domestic bottles we're $3). I got a consistent 5 count pour on the drinks, 1.25-1.5 oz depending on my accuracy. read more

The world is full of plastic, fake, gentrified, overpriced and wimpy EVERYTHING and when you want to get some walls and a door between you and all that come to The Goat. This place is divealicious and that is the best kind of "alicous" really. I heard a customer came in and say that this place was left over from 25 years ago and he was wrong as 35 years is probably more accurate. The Goat has the coolest oblong shaped bar. I've never seen anything quite like it. There are video poker machines, one small pool table, some tables a few high bar like seating area away from the main bar, high back black vinyl bar stools, $3 domestics and an interesting cast of regulars and semi-regulars. The place is dark but not as dark as one might think and though the outside looks rough this is a dive but it does not feel 'dangerous' or intimidating on the inside. Some complain about the hipster element but when I was there, all kinds of folks were hanging, most a little older and mellow than one would think of as frequenting a hipster joint. I was not there late so I can't speak for the after midnight or weekend crowd. The thing that sets the Goat apart from other dives is the music. This is, 'your friendly neighborhood blues bar' and as such music is featured every night. I was there on a Tuesday when a fellow named Aaron Burton was playing Delta Blues. He was actually quite good. He did very well in a far from ideal setting. In a place like this and musician playing for tips I would have been cool with somebody who could simply carry a tune but this guy could really play. He is supposedly there every Tuesday. The only complaint was that I wished more of the relatively small audience appreciated his playing more. He was going to bring on a special guest (he said he has one every week) but I had to go before he joined in. This is a cool place, it is kind of in a strange area and looks rough and ready from the outside..but for lovers of dives and people who like music, this really is go to spot..so go to it. read more

I'm a biggo bulldyke who loves this dive, possibly the straightest bar imaginable, but it is so very QUEER, as in surreal. It's as grimy and seedy as anyone's garage-man-cave, but there is a certain freedom in the energy at The Goat. Such an eclectic mashup of people, half of them drunk from the cheap swill, truly amusing "dance" moves after any midnight. Most any night you can expect hot ass blues licks, so infectious and genuine. You always meet an odd cast of characters in the crowd of old white dudes in fedoras chasing again divorcees, old bikers, young musicians, rednecks, and the usual hipsters seeking irony. The odd mix of patrons make this blues bar a real Dallas gem. read more

My friends and I came to The Goat after a long day of work. Upon entering the bar we quickly noticed it was so packed and no one was following covid procedures. After about 10 mins of basically making eye contact with the bartender she finally stopped chatting with her pal and attended us. We got our drinks and headed to the patio for a cigarette. There was a group of friends (who knew the bartender) on the patio and us. We were on the patio maybe 2 mins before the two bartenders came out and aggressively told us to stop smoking marijuana. After we explained we had just sat down and I was smoking a cigarette she proceeded to call me a liar and to 'not be that guy'. This happened about twice and the people who were smoking never got kicked out. Kinda horrible that the only group of minorities gets yelled at so quick for just being on the patio. We never even smelled marijuana. We closed our tabs right after our drink and I will never be coming back. read more

Oh wow, this place is incredible, I was here this past sunday for karaoke night. Being recently single and having worked all day I was ready to go out. I can tell you I certainly never expected there to be a sunday night throw-down karaoke party at this east dallas dive bar. As I pulled up, there was a parking lot attendant helping everyone park in the packed tiny parking lot. The inside is about as dive-y as they come, dark/dim, small stage in the corner, small patio for smoking out back. The drinks were priced average, but what really hooked me was the crowd. All walks of life, all getting along, and all partying on a sunday. It was everything a dive bar should be and such a fun place that I didn't even mind the 6'5" cross dresser hacking through celine dion's my heart will go on. read more
