A great place to go and hang out, have some drinks and try some atypical bar food. The atmosphere has stayed the same for many many years.

We hit Cosmos after dinner this weekend and of course it was kitschy and fantastic. It is one of the biggest East Dallas gems we have and they can never go away. We always are greeted by everyone with a warm welcome which gives it the great neighborhood feel everyone loves. There were just as many people eating their amazing Vietnamese food as there were having cocktails and enjoying some of the best dive bar atmosphere you can find. Nothing better than the Schlitz globe and retro movie posters greeting you to kick off a memorable night. If you're up for a unique retro experience you won't find anywhere else, go check out Cosmos. For drinks, I'd give Cosmo's 3 stars. We tried the lychee martini and a green tea shot and both were way too alcohol-forward for me and my friends' tastes. The food is why Cosmo's gets 4 stars. Unfortunately by the time we got there (around 10ish pm on a Saturday night) they were out of pho. I opted for the cabbage salad which was honestly a good portion size and filled my vegetable craving. My friends ordered banh mis which they all spoke very highly about. Service was a bit slow as our server forgot to come back to take our food orders until we flagged her down again, but they did seem to be very busy with food orders and at the bar. read more

Heard this place was a hidden gem from Reddit. The pho was highly recommended. It took a really long time for the pho to come out, how but it tasted pretty good. The eggrolls were the star of the show for me - simply amazing. The shell had a slight onion flavor that worked really well with the overall taste. Extremely laidback and welcoming vibe! The decor and the staff alike. I love that they had one of my favorite beers on tap: Golden Opportunity. A decently sized bar, tv playing black and white shows. VHS tapes as decor adds a nice retro touch. They have their own parking lot but I'm sure that it gets pretty packed the later you go. Large liquor selection. read more

This bar has fantastic food and an excellent vibe. I love the decorations- it almost feels like you're in a old record store mixed with a diner. We sat at the bar and ordered a glass of wine and an espresso martini. I really enjoyed the vegetarian vermicelli noodle dish which was so creative and flavorful. I love the seasoned tofu and chopped spring rolls in it! Our food came out quickly and so did our drinks. It was pretty busy so I expected to wait a bit, but was pleasantly surprised. The clientele were super friendly and everyone cheered when they played the opening game of the Ranger season! read more

Good place for chill late night vibes and good Asian bar food. Cosmo's was fun and a cute concept inside. Food was great, I really liked the oxtail pho, egg rolls, and lychee martini. LOVED the crispy wings and Vietnamese coffee espresso martini. Martini was super smooth and better than a regular espresso martini. The espresso to alcohol ratio was perfect. Not a fan of the kimchi tater tots, some flavor was missing, and cheese was at the bottom and made the tater tots soggy after a little. That's just a personal preference. This place came so highly recommended that my friend and I finally gave in and went. It wasn't too busy, but we couldn't get drinks for a long time, literally until I said "maybe we should go and just leave a bad review." Suddenly we got to put an order in. Magic! I began looking at bad reviews and I noticed a lot of reviews had one thing in common: poor service if someone were black. My friend is. While we waited for our food, I became aware of a movie playing. I don't know the title, but that is the most racist thing I've ever heard in my life. Every horrible word you could call a black person was featured. I distracted my friend from it as long as I could, but he was hurt when he finally saw it. I looked around and noticed everyone -- everyone-- was white. In a diverse place like Dallas, not good. The food came and we were disappointed. It wasn't bad, but it was tiny and pricy for what it was. We ordered from the well and got charged for a full drink anyway. Our total was $30 for two well drinks and a snack with poor service. I was a bit wary when my wife said, "We need to try this place. My Uber driver raved about it." Let me get this straight - it's a dive bar with Vietnamese food? Why doesn't that make sense? It does. This is a magical place. I'm not sure I've had a check before that had an Old Fashioned, some Pork Belly Tacos and Tater Tots. I think my wife was planning to treat it as a restaurant, and the food choices are plentiful. I walked in, looked around and said, "My bar!" so you could just go for drinks, as well. (If you do go for drinks, have some egg rolls and dumplings with them. You're welcome.) Here's a relatively strange test I give many restaurants, and very few are successful - How good are the Tater Tots? Decent Tater Tots are crispy outside. Great Tater Tots are crispy outside and creamy inside. World Class Tater Tots are crispy, creamy and have sea salt. Don't ask me to explain it - if you know, you know. These are World Class Tater Tots, which then gives me faith in the entire menu. I wasn't sure if I wanted Mekong Delta (spicy ribeye) tacos or Seoul (pork belly) tacos, so I asked for help, and was told to start with the pork belly. Now, I have to go back for the ribeye, because the pork belly was amazing. Drinks are very good. Food is amazing. Service is great, with a side of quirky, but in a good way. This is the most diamond in the rough spot I've come across. This hole in the wall bar has a Gen X vibe with movie posters and VHS from the late 70's early 80's. They serve pizza, really good fried mozzarella sticks, etc., and the drinks are a solid pour. Nothing terribly surprising there This is where things take an unexpected twist. You'd never expect the best Phó in Dallas to come from this dive bar, but yet that's what you'll find. It is made with an amazing Ox Tail broth, which is so flavorful it borders on being ramen like while maintaining that expected Phó flavor. The Vermicelli bowl has some amazingly flavorful chicken. The egg rolls and seaweed rolls could be better, but with the extremely high quality Phó and Vermicelli it is certainly forgivable. I've gone back to this place several times in a row since finding it. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because the menus is limited. read more

This place is a mind f*ck. Strong pours, Vietnamese food, and pizza (along with other random bar food!?!). RANDOM. But amazing! This is an east dallas institution and I can't believe I haven't been here!! I met a friend here and started with an old fashioned. Was tasty but they don't have the fancy big ice if you are into that. They do have the most welcoming environment and team in the biz. We posted up at the bar and had a great happy hour. We also got the banh mi special along with some tots. Everything was delicious!!! I was super stuffed after but still remember it being a memorable night. But it is random. Everything from the location to the food menu is random! Even the movies playing in then background were super random !!! I think back to the future or some other old school flick was on. The ambiance is super kitschy and fun. The staff did have to deal with an over-served customer next to us but they handled it with grace and got her quickly out of there. This place is unreal. You wouldn't expect the bustling atmosphere from the quiet shopping center Cosmo's resides in, but upon entering you are transported. Cosmo's is not try hard, feels genuinely cool, and is unusually unbuttoned compared to the typical Dallas bar or restaurant. The food is delicious, the kimchi tater tots are a must try: the tangy kimchi sauce and melted cheese on the bottom make them the most satisfying bar snack. The chicken pho with beef broth was also top tier. Everything is well priced here. Service is quick and they give you a written tab which is kind of nice. Hidden foodie gem! Drinks are strong and the food is outstanding. The most underrated dive bar in Dallas! It's Vietnamese American owned and the owner is super friendly. As soon as you walk in, it's dark, cozy and lit up by neon lights around the bar, surrounded by a bunch of VHS's on the wall and a TV playing an iconic classic film. Cosmo's is a vibe. I've been here dressed up after a nice dinner and in shorts and a T-shirt, no one cares what you're wearing - Atmosphere is great and super chill. The food here gets a whole paragraph of its own. Where do I even begin? Cosmo's is an absolute hidden gem, and I'm conflicted to write this review because I don't want y'all to flood this spot, but at the same time you need to know it exists. Let's just put it this way: I visited the area for just under a week and made this place my home away from home for good company and bites to eat because I quickly learned how warm it felt. Gerald, Jackson, and Joe are some of the most down-to-earth people and really take pride in this place and it shows. The ambiance. One wall is lined with VHS that are constantly queued up and you'll likely catch a cult classic that strikes a warm fuzzy feeling to your heart. The holiday decor is fun, not at all overdone, and I wish I'd be around for Christmas. There's also a hodge-podge of old-school jams on rotation in the background just playing through so there's no radio silence. The food. Ohhhh the food. So, coming from California I must admit I was curious about how Dallas did pho, and ngl the way Jackson served it, I wanted to cry. "is spicy okay?" "is there any other way?" The fixins were already served IN my bowl, I didn't need to prepare a gd thing. The broth was perfect, I even tasted the star anise. The first visit I had the beef pho, then dived into the oxtail (and went straight to heaven with that falling riiiight off the bone), then returned for beef again (I told you I made this home, okay?). I also had the kimchi tots with the pork belly. TRY THOSE TOO. I went for a half order of mozzarella sticks my final night and they were incredible. Gerald recommended when I return next to have a bacon, chicken pizza, so I mean... I gotta do that. The drinks. Joe is ace at them. I went based on my own ideas then other's (I honestly don't go out to drink on my own, but when on vacation in a spot I trust, I bit the bullet). A spicy ranch water is a good classic, a lychee martini is a nice balance of sweet and refreshing. True love is a local sour. The hospitality deserves more than 5 stars, seriously. Joe and Jackson gave me water and refilled it repeatedly. They kept their eyes on me at the bar (it felt like a caring family member). Gerald recommended places to visit while I was out there. If you can't tell, I'm homesick for Cosmo's and it hasn't even been a week. *sighs* If you visit, please, tip them well. They deserve it. read more

It'd been years since I'd been to Cosmos and I'd been wanting to try Jackson Tran's Vietnamese menu forever. I have to say it was such a disappointment. I started with the Paloma that was overly sweet and didn't taste remotely like grapefruit. It was so bad I didn't finish it. I also got the Pho and it was miserable. It tasted like a bouillon cube with a sweet (and unpleasant) finish. The server didn't check back after delivering the food until we were ready for the check. She asked how it was and seemed unsurprised when I said I didn't care for it all. We also tried the noodle bowl, which was better, but also not great. Sigh. read more

Holy sh*tballs, this place is great! The decor and atmosphere is like stepping back into the 70s. Swag lamps, vintage furniture, and vhs tapes adorn the inside of this cozy bar/restaurant. You won't find 20 televisions playing all the sports games here, just old movies playing on 2 televisions tucked into the corner; this place is all about socializing. The service is great. Plenty of servers make their rounds making sure all patrons have a drink or food when needed. What you may not expect is a menu that has a decent variety of Vietnamese inspired dishes! The kimchi tots were pretty decent, but could use more toppings. The rest of the menu looks delicious and I'm eager to return to try most of the offerings. Pretty sure I'm getting a bahn mi sandwich later tonight... This is an adult establishment (21 and up only) and they don't allow pets (seriously, stop bringing your damn dog everywhere you go). This ensures that I will return and recommend this establishment over any place that allows dogs. This may just be my new favorite spot to hang out. read more

Hadn't been here in 20 years...still a fun bar...and they have great food. We ordered drinks, chicken bah mi sandwich, and pork dumplings. Food was amazing. They even split the dumplings which were in a tasty broth. Much easier to share that way. Limited seating and crowded at peak hours. Biggest negative was $20 for Hendricks gin gimlet. A bit strange as their cocktails all had quality alcohol and highest menu price was $15. Definitely stop by for the vibe and food. read more
