I like all of the Jersey-style hot dog places in the area (Johnny & Hanges, Riverview East, etc.), and they're all very similar in style and quality, but Goffle Grill is the overall best, in my opinion. True, this establishment brings back many good childhood memories, but I'm pretty sure I would be able to pick out a GG all-the-way dog in a blind taste test. I love their gravy and gravy fries. You go to a place like this for a reason, and you're either on-board or you aren't. If you like this style dog, you should definitely check it out. Food is lousy & stale. The crater faced tall blonzilla kept playing w her hair & picking at her face while handling the other lady's food. Plus they're too cheap to pay for the fees associated with accepting credit card payments for their customers so they put an ATM in their so the customers can foot the surcharge. So nice of them. The employees look dirty & like trailer park trash. Years ago it was a good place I heard but ever since this gibroney took over, its sub-standard. For me, this the quintessential grill. It's a staple, and there are a lot of delicious specials. The hot turkey with gravy is to die for. They have the best BBQ sauce and their Texas petal sauce is awesome, too. The staff is friendly and familiarizes themselves with customers. The atmosphere is old timey and down to earth. Parking is pretty decent. They have everything from dogs and burgers, to soups, sandwiches and chili. This place is a great business for Hawthorne and the surrounding areas. read more

Gave it a try since I am a fan of Hot Grill. By comparison, Texas Weiner all the way is tasty, but chili could have used more spice and flavor. Cheese fries had bland nacho-style cheese on them with the chili sauce. read more

Ok so, this place has its issues. Such as No Cards accepted, Cash only - it's almost 2020 and no cards are accepted! That's a big issue with literally everyone I know! The food is sub-Par at best. Their food is your basic frozen run of the mill ingredients. Would I come back? Only if desperate! Their To-Go packaging is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I head here for breakfast from time to time. It's your typical greasy spoon line up. Overall the food isn't all that impressive. The service isn't too bad either. For the cost of the meal, it's about right. However, I would rather travel 10 minutes north and head to the Fireplace if I was in the mood for something like that. read more

After hearing rave reviews from everyone we've met who has lived in the Hawthorne/Midland Park/Waldwick area, we decided to give this place a try. From the outside it looks like a deserted, generic brand of Burger King. From the inside, I would say Burger King is better. There was probably two staff members there and I think they were so high, they didn't even pretend to care what we wanted to order, much less get it to us quickly. I understand you can't really expect much of young employees when you leave them in charge of the place and pay probably just minimum wage, so I overlooked it and sat at a booth to wait for the food. The booth was sticky. I looked around and the whole place was filthy, I dont think they had wiped down a table all day. My boyfriend brought over the food on a plastic tray holding the food in thin paper containers. I think I had a couple fries. Usually, I would be all down for cheap eats, but at this place I found them outrageously greasy and I wondered if they had cleaned their fryers or any part of the kitchen recently. I would definately not go back. I think it's probably a homey place for locals who used to go all the time "back in the day", but definately not good anymore. read more

I love grills. I live in town, and I always drive past Goffle Grill. I never visited because I had heard over the years that they're very expensive. So, the other day I felt like an adventure! I ordered my usual for a grill, two dogs with onions and chili, order of fries and Coke. Looks like any other average grill in Jersey. Chili, has zero flavor! Its bitter with hardly any meat to it. Onions need more time to mature, still green mostly! Yuck! Lastly, the fries where awesome. Verdict, I'm not going back, maybe in a few months when I forget. read more

A really AVERAGE place. If you were looking for amazing taste or quality, I'd look elsewhere. If you are in town and just really hungry then go for it! Was back at Goffle Grill today because my wife had me furniture shopping down the street. Food is as mediocre as I recalled, but also cheap and quick. Interesting note - they had a chicken slider special. Of course they cook was unaware of this fact and I had to tell him what to put it on (as per their own sign). I'm surprised there are so many bad reviews, I have been coming here for over 25 years, no bad experiences ever. There have been some additions to the menu but the core items are as they have always been. Decent hot dogs with sauce or all the way, great fries, burgers so so, I usually upgrade to a hard roll and add fried onions and Taylor ham to liven it up. Although I've lived in Massachusetts for the past 35+ years, I grew up in Hawthorne and I never miss a chance to get my Texas Weiner fix at Goffle Grill when visiting family there. I've been loving the dogs since I was a kid, when Goffle Grill's predecessor was at that location (Johnny and Norm's Drive-In.) My grandparents, long gone, lived directly across the street back then. In my experience, you cannot get "Texas Weiners" outside of North Jersey (not even in Texas, I don't think) and there are none better than the Goffle Grill's. The Goffle Grill has been a Hawthorne stronghold since my childhood. North Jersey is full of excellent deep-fried "all-the-way" dog joints, but Goffle Grill goes the extra mile for a few great reasons. A lot of what is on the menu is homemade or handmade. Beyond the gravy, hot dog sauce, chili, and more, even the milkshakes are NEVER from a machine's pre-made mix, they're made with real ice cream. All of the soups (and there are so many rotated through it's always a pleasant surprise to find out what the soup of the day is) are homemade from scratch. Health conscious? They've got plenty of options for salads, and even a veggie wrap with homemade broccoli rabe and mozzarella. I've only had excellent meals there. Go light on the onions if you get the dogs all the way - the sauce shouldn't be missed! read more

This was my first ever visit to Goffle Grill. it was a Sunday at 6pm. I ordered a plan cheesebuger, hotdog all the way and french fries. I was in a group and it happened it was 3rd hot dog is free Sunday. The people at the counter were friendly and quick. The sign showed that orders are cash only. I enjoyed my meal while listening to Eric Clapton and Boston on a free radio station. I like the food and I have always during times that it was brought home for me but the all the way sauce, here, is not to my taste. They have many other items to choose from though. read more

This place has been around since the 1950's and consistantly serves up delicious hot dogs "all the way" ...zesty sauce, tickled with a tomato ( and God knows what else?) chili flavor with a hint of mustard) A sprinkling of finely diced raw onion and you have a real Northern New Jersey taste. If you like fries you'll love thiers; ask the counter guy to make them well done and make sure they top them with thier homemade brown gravey which has a unique peppery flavor. The chili bowl is first rate but the onion rings only get a C grade. Nobody beats Rutt's Hut for great, perfectly fried onion rings made from scratch. Goffle Grill is close to the Goffle Road /Rt. 208 exit (going North on Rt. 208). Lots of parking, fast, cheerful counter service (no waitresses) plenty of interior seating and very clean. They seem really friendly here and I know they are supposed to have great hot dogs, but I was super disappointed when I ordered pick up from here recently. My boyfriend and I both ordered a cheesesteak with extra cheese and pizza fries (it was a lazy Sunday, dont judge me). In any case-we were robbed of a good cheat meal. It was the skimpiest cheesesteak with barely any cheese at all (remember, i asked for extra), and the pizza fries were like something I made in college when i was drunk back at my apartment. It was such a let down and I wasn't about to go back out again to bring it back. Maybe the rest of their food is good, but I doubt I'll try it again. read more

Ugh. Really, REALLY disappointing. I've grown up always hearing a lot of hype about this place but unfortunately nothing lived up to it. My mother and I stopped by for two burgers, two dogs all the way, an order of onion rings, and two shakes. Our burgers were both burnt beyond anything that could be consumer. The patties were also really thin. I guess that's what happens when they're reduced to near char. The sauce on the dogs had a really strange aftertaste. Almost like vinegar. It was really unpleasant. The shakes were watery and my onion rings were just so so. I'll just stick to Libby's when I need my greasy, jersey comfort food fix and I'll pass on goffle grill from here on out :( read more

I was quite hungry when I came out from working at my restaurant today when I stopped by here with 2 friends and saw the look of this place and having heard how long it's been here I was quite supriswd by how abhorrently cheap and tasteless everything in that establishment is today. The food is all just random "grill style" foods although I believe frozen and reheated by a microwave is a more accurate description of the so called grilling process that goes on and in the unkempt and disheartening "kitchen" the food comes out relatively quickly after ordering I'd say about as long as the reheat cycle on an average microwave or toaster oven. The meat itself appears to have come from an obviously cheap wholesale food store frozen section or just the freezer department of shoprite. As I bit my threw my "pizza burger" which was very thin,dry, almost rubbery patty soaked in watered down "marina" on a bun that you would think was made of tissue paper as it became moist and fell apart this was the same for my "buffalo chicken slider" which was a reheated chicken tender on the same flimsy bun soaked in what I believe to franks original red hot sauce. There condiment selection is a bunch of bottle on reach contains a different sauce but look extremely unsanitary and taste foul. I heavily regret tipping before I ate as I didn't even finish my meal as I had lost my appetite and couldn't tolerate the disregard for any care towards the customers experience this is obviously a business that was once popular but is now left to the occasional elderly couples and teens who stop in for a quick cheap snack and that is exactly what is soldd but poor quality ingredients they charge a steap price for pool side snack bar quality that gives you stomach cramps in less than forty five minutes even if you don't swim. Stay away stay away If you actually love your family yourself or like your friends you would not come here if the staff didn't look like the trash that spit in food and insult in their own language so you can't understand them and eyeball younger females. I would highly recommend any health inspector doesn't take bribes to investigate this restaurant as I feel it may also in violation of multiple basic codes. That is all if I could give 0 stars I would but then I wouldn't have been able to post this review and warn others of this unpleasant dive that makes Burger King look high class. Even if an individual were to come in here Under the influence they would not want to eat what they ordered here. I hope this review accurately depicts the message the owners of this place are trying to convey to the community at large because it is well received. read more

I grew up going here and would say that it is the best grill place that you can go. Every person that I have taken there has fallen in love with the place. Shakes there are awesome, grilled cheese is awesome and there Texas hotdogs with chilli is awesome. In fact everything they make is awesome. If you want a place with fine dining then don't go there, but if you want to go to a grill with awesome good it is the place to be. read more

Place has gone downhill. Sauce was so spicy tonight it was not edible. Lately it's not the same from visit to visit.

I have been reluctant to remark but since I have joined Yelp I am compelled to say that this hot dog joint is the worst. They have horrible customer service, they let others just cut in front of you and place orders without even acknowledging the next person on line. It feels like a local joint were all they care about is the people that they know. I had a bowl of chili which seemed like it was sitting there for three days instead of being three alarm chili. I guess that what three alarm is to them. thier burgers are awful....and frozen......probably slime......I want a great burger and don't care what i spend. I have been to several places in the past two months and I really think that Bourbon bbq has the best. go there to get em folks. read more

This happened a while ago but I just found this site. Went to their web site to make an order and the prices were very reasonable. We called and placed the order so my wife could pick it up. When she got there the price was double what it should have been based on the prices on the web site. They didn't take credit cards but had an ATM so she had to take money out to pay the inflated bill. When she got home I called & spoke to the manager who told me the prices on the web site were at least 5 years old and he had been meaning to get the web site updated but was busy & couldn't find someone to do it. I tried to explain that you cannot state 1 price on the web site and then charge a different price when the person gets there but he wouldn't do anything to make the situation right. Very poor customer service so we haven't been back and won't go back. We used to go there a lot because we like the food, which we have no complaints about. read more
