This one was part of a food hop for my husband and I. I heard it's the sister restaurant of the popular local restaurant Magpie and noticed they had a Yuringi fried tofu (like Yuringi chicken): Korean tofu fried crisp, then tossed in Yuringi sauce, sprinkled with pickled chile and finished with 5-chile oil and house furikake ( sesame seed, gochu garu ,toasted nori). Served with iceberg lettuce. This was a hit. The tofu was perfectly crispy outside, softer inside and the sauce was delicious and perfectly balanced. We had some other food targets to get to so that was all we tried but it was really delicious and perfectly done. It was very casual self order. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! Co-workers and I have been twice in the last month. I'm not beating around the bush here: I'll go back, but only because I'm going with the crowd. I'm telling you now...I didn't order the tofu, so when they delivered it to my table I asked....but they showed me my receipt, which said I did. I was skeptical, but whatever. I think the touchscreen ordering screwed me... Y'all, I wouldn't order tofu in a million years, I don't like it...but ended up eating the entire dish. It was fantastic! Talk about being surprised. Today, was extremely careful on the touchscreen when ordering, and went with the beef curry and chicken. My thoughts when it came out: is there even any beef in this? This is soup, not curry. Oh, and it's not even hot. It's barely even warm. Then, a co-worker was legit served the wrong dish. So, she goes to bring it to their attention, and the server borderline argues with her ...basically telling her "yes, that is what you ordered" - even though she had a receipt showing otherwise. Service is not friendly. Food costs too much. Ambiance is a mix of hole-in-the-wall, eclectic, retro...walls covered in weird posters. Casual dining experience by the same people that won Magpie to my understanding (as referenced in their "magpie milk bread"). I ordered the ramen (which is $15 weekdays after 5PM) and it was delicious and comes with a Soju shot if you'd like. The locations lacks obvious parking though there is plenty of garages and lots in the vicinity but nothing directly for the restaurant. The vibe is colorful and eclectic and casual dining. You can either order from a kiosk or a person at the counter if paying cash. The menu is minimal but with that comes an ease with ordering. This place is fire!!! Ate the Yuringi fried chicken and it was so good. Texture was a perfect amount of crisp and the meat was so tender and juicy. The Yuringi sauce was the tiniest bit spicy and full of delicious flavor. You wrap the chicken around the lettuce they provide, dip it in some sauce, and it becomes a refreshing, delicious bite. I've driven past this spot many times and finally had the pleasure of dining here. There is a bit of construction in this area, but don't be deterred but this because there is a parking deck right around the corner and a parking lot across the street. Self-ordering can be done on the two touchscreens by the front counter once you walk in, and waters will be given to you there as well. You can then take your pick of seats. I really liked the decor and the music--it was definitely a vibe. I believe their menu has changed since opening, and I like that there are more entree options. I got the beef curry, which had tender pieces of wagyu beef smothered in a curry sauce. The curry sauce itself was good but I wasn't blown away by it--it tasted rather quite similar to the typical Japanese curry. Nonetheless, it was delicious. There were not too many pieces of meat within the curry itself, so in my opinion, it was rather overpriced for $16. They also have happy hour (drinks only) specials that will soon include some appetizers too. Was in town for a conference and had been eating a lot of not so healthy options, wanted a "home cooked meal" vibe, saw reviews for this place and eyed the wagyu beef soup and knew immediately I had to try it. You order through kiosks at the front but there was a friendly employee there ready to answer any questions regarding the menu. The decor was fun and inviting, they had some chill music playing to add to the good vibes. I got the Wagyu beef soup with a side of rice, came out within 5 minutes and it was fantastic. Felt like my soul/stomach was so happy eating it, just felt like a nice bowl of something home cooked. Nice to reset your system after a work trip of eating junk lol. It came with chili oil & jalapenos and added a little of each for a little kick. Overall, excellent experience. I had heard of golden goose and I never knew exactly where it was until this past weekend! It's right in the heart of the city! My family and I went to the western culture stock parade and while looking for a place to sit down and watch the parade, we stumbled upon Golden Goose! They weren't open yet but we were still able to order and wait outside. It was the best seats in the house for the parade! When we arrived, Albert was cleaning/wiping down the outside tables and chairs. He told us his son and daughter in law own this restaurant as well as another one called Magpies (which I will definitely try). They have ordering kiosks for card purchases but they also take cash if you prefer, they take those cash orders at the register counter. We ordered family style and shared. We ordered the beef bulgogi and spicy pork (very very spicy fyi) as well as a BLT sandwich with fries for the kids. Everything was absolutely delicious! I ordered a Vietnamese coffee to drink and my brother in law ordered a beer and soju, iced tea and water for the rest of our party. They do have a full bar, fyi. It's a casual and modern take on Korean food with other "American" food options. They have farm partners where they source their meat and produce from which is awesome! There is both indoor and outdoor seating but it's not a big restaurant. During peak hours I'm sure there's a wait. Overall, great experience! Definitely coming back to try more of their menu options! First time trying out this establishment with a couple of my coworkers. You enter and you are greeted by a mom and pops kinda feel. Decor is amazing! You order your food on the iPads and they bring the food to you. The young man taking the orders was so kind and informative. He explained the best sellers and his recommendations were superb! Love this West Side neighborhood--now the Golden Goose, first the name - ? Location down Houston Street under the Espire Apartments. Nothing screamed 5 stars. Then you walk in, again? We were not sure what to expect, types of pictures, paintings, and decor on the wall. The disco ball was spinning, and the music was disco. We placed the order, and then the magic happened! The fried chicken was really crispy. I liked eating it inside the lettuce and with a light drizzle of sauce. The beef soup was delicious! The beef was really tender. I did walk inside and there were plenty of tables and even some outside. The rice was nothing special but it was a nice addition to the chicken. The chicken was very tasty, perfectly crispy, lots of flavor although I do think it needed some more saltiness. That may be a preference though. On Tuesday night, we visited The Golden Goose (@gg.satx), a Magpie concept. I made reservations on Open Table for us. Parking at the parking garage on Laredo St. is free for 2 hours and they will validate your ticket. I met Eugene and Sue, who are the couple behind Magpie and The Golden Goose. Hubby and I had the Florida Seltzer in Navel Orange Yuzu flavor. Dad had the Simply Lemonade and Eugene was kind enough to serve that free of charge. We shared the Wagyu Beef Soup, "Yuringi" Fried Chicken, House Salad, BLT, and Kimchi. Everything was tasty! The BLT is made with their Milk Bread. The fried chicken was my favorite though everything was really good. 5 stars for sure! They have brunch on Sundays so we'll have to check it out some time! The menu is limited but the food is amazing. I had the Yuringi Fried Chicken. The flavors and seasoning made my mouth water. My husband who doesn't like kimchi was a fan of the radish kimchi side we ordered. Service was quick and the atmosphere is eccentric with lots of interesting artwork. Just- amazing. How can food that appears so simple be... just so so much better than any other version of it. I got the Patty Melt with a side salad and the Yuringi Chicken. The food is open and inviting to anyone, but it does have nuance of flavors and depth that make it stand out. The meatloaf patty melt had a very pleasant texture and elevated feel compared to a typical burger melt and their house made milk bread was incredible. The chicken had a splash of spice and was fried in such a delicate and fresh take. The salad- even a simple appearing salad, was so fresh with such a delicious dressing- an overlooked afterthought by me at first, I was nearly licking the dressing by the end. The quality , attention to detail, and the cooking are superb (as I later found it, for good reason- the chef is world class.) You can feel the passion and love for food, service and experience upon entering. The atmosphere is awesome and unique. I had set a meeting for lunch with a friend and told him to pick the place. Someone had recently told him about this spot downtown and he wanted to give it a shot. In retrospect, I should've done a LITTLE research. Check the Yelp page, The Googz, SOMETHING. But as I was making my way downtown driving fast minutes pass and I'm inbound I think "this is fun, I have no idea what to expect!" I was staring blankly ahead at my maaaaaaaps. Anyway, the place is small but it is mighty. The menu is concise. It's divided up kinda funnily, but that makes you pay attention. We each ordered our own meal (pork bulgogi + salad for me, fried chicken + rice for him) and we got a patty melt sandwich to share (calm down, it comes cut in half). This way we could each try two things. Wow. Eugene and the team BLEW US AWAY. The spicy pork and kimchi were exquisite. The salad had a lemon olive oil vinaigrette that was light and bright and packed a surprisingly noticeable flavorpunch. The patty melt. Kids. The. Patty. Melt. It was an oddly dense-looking patty that surprisingly had a great mouth-feel. But the bread. What in the world?! Expertly toasted Japanese milk bread for a gooey patty melt sandwich?! Customer service was great. It was my friend and I's first visit and the server was very helpful and friendly, explaining what each dish was and the best way to enjoy it. We went before a show at the Empire so we got there kind of early. It wasn't too busy since it was so early and we were able to take our time and monopolize the server. Not sure if this would have happened had it been busier. The food was delicious. All of his recommendations were very good. Will definitely be going back. They do validate for parking but know before you go, that the parking is in the parking garage of the building. The chicken was good with the spicy sauce on it but when I dipped it in the brown sauce, it just elevated the taste...so good!
