We had lunch here yesterday and it was pretty disappointing. And actually that was only for 4 of 5 dishes ordered - we were told they were still working on the other omelette, and I finally got my meal after my husband completely finished his (at least they took my meal off the bill). Very good vegan options! The cauliflower wings were some of the best I've ever had. (And I've tried them at lots of places) ... we got buffalo, pineapple habanero, and golden. All good but Buffalo and golden were our favorites. The vegan ranch was also very good!!! And nice to find vegan ranch in general. The quinoa cakes were also so good, with the red pepper sauce being a real highlight. It seems like the mushroom Rueben could be veganized by omitting aioli and cheese. They had vegan pizza too. And a vegan salad - not enticing to me lol. They were out of the vegan cheesecake sadly due to supply chain / distribution issues with the ingredients. It may or may not ever return they said. This was the third time I've been there and I'll never go back. The bartender/waitress was horrible. All she did was complain about the people who had been there before. I was the only one there sitting at the bar. She never asked if I wanted food or offer a menu. They advertised a $5 Bloody Mary (a sign when you walk in the door). When my bill was $10, she said oh that was last month. Mind you, it's the 26th day of April. She did not offer a discount, just said it was not her job to put up or take down signs. We had brunch here and it was delicious! Hubby ordered the pony burrito and loved it. He said the cheese inside made the burrito even better. Son got the breakfast burger and home fries. The burger was huge and perfectly cooked. The egg on the burger was runny and delicious. If you prefer a hard cooked fried egg, I'm sure they'd do that. I had the bacon egg and cheese biscuit with home fries. The homemade biscuit was flaky and delicious. The candied bacon elevated the dish and the spicy honey sauce was perfection. We all agreed that the home fries are some of the best we've had. They don't look extra special, but they taste out of this world! They're well seasoned, but the best part about them is how perfectly they're cooked. They are delightfully crispy on the outside with fluffy potatoes inside. I don't know how they achieve such a precise crispy-ness, but they do! And after biting that crunch and then eating the fluffy potatoes inside.... Wow! You need to try them! read more

Unfortunately, I wish I could give them zero stars. This past weekend I went to "rave night" and was treated horribly by a bouncer. I had to help my friend out to her Uber and when I tried to return he denied my re-entry despite the fact I had already paid a cover and gotten a wristband. I explained my situation of assisting a friend and he couldn't care less what I had to say. Even offering the business more money couldn't get him to budge. I had an open bar tab which I got charged for not closing when they gave me no opportunity to properly close it. If they have some sort of no re-entry under any circumstance whatsoever they could at least make their paying customers aware of the "rules"? Is it that hard to put up a sign? So just a fair warning if you ever plan on going there, don't leave unless you're ready to go! They will not let you back in! This was also super early...around 10PM!! read more

Terrible experience. I attended a show last week ,Stews concert, my party of 4 was removed from the show by a bouncer. We were asked to show our tickets to another bouncer while the first guy watched. Total lack of communication . . I asked the first guy what happened and he seemed speechless as we missed last 2 songs. Great place and great service! We eat our food too fast before we can take any pictures and I didn't want to post pictures of cleaned plate. We came here for breakfast on move-in weekend for JMU. It was "the hole in the wall" find 2 blocks past the main downtown. Go an extra two blocks and you find perfection. The pinball machines in the entrance and a gorgeous back patio under the shades of trees. We had the BLT (amazing garlic mayo) and a plate with eggs, bacon and sourdough toast. French 75 mimosa style drink was sweet and light. Richie Valens is a coffee drink which will definitely wake you up. We will be back!! read more

A great place for drinks and cheap food! I got their loaded fries. Was it the best loaded fries I've ever had? Not ally all, but it's everything I needed after hitting some bars. Huevos Rancheros here where pretty tasty. They let you have your eggs however you want and serve it with their spicy chili. It comes with two warmed tortillas and you can put the ingredients on the shells yourself. It makes for a messy but yummy brunch. I have also been here for the nightlife and concerts. The stage area has a bar downstairs and there is plenty of room for dancing and jamming out. Check it out if you're looking for life music in a more private and intimate setting than Clementine's. read more

i'm so glad my mom found this place! while walking in it was a very open and spacious restaurant. the wait for our food was about 20-30 minutes which around average for a restaurant. the staff was all wearing masks, even when i saw someone walk in the back they were wearing a mask. they also had plenty of vegan options. i decided to order the buffalo cauliflower burger and it was amazing! the food was not expensive at all! very affordable! definitely recommend trying if you haven't! read more

It felt like we were invisible. I've been here before and it's delicious but it's disappointing the service was so poor this time. On this magnificent Easter Sunday, I'm celebrating today with a bittersweet Ritchie Valens from the local Golden Pony. I reckoned that pandering myself with ale on this day would be quite sacrilegious, hence why I dipped my toes into this caffeinated drink. The cold pungent espresso has sweet undertones of cinnamon and sugar, the luscious cream balancing out the intense taste. Indeed, the great Golden Pony turned itself into a beautiful Trojan Horse in allowing me to sip this delectable refreshment. Our server made the recommendation to add halloumi cheese to my ham and cheese waffle and it was fabulous. Two orders of my group's biscuits and gravy were returned after the first bite and we were still charged for them which soured the experience. 4 people in our group ordered the biscuits and gravy and two ate theirs because they needed to get on the road with something in their stomachs. Sooo disappointed. For a short time, this was our favorite place in town to get brunch!! So one morning we took our parents here and when we got there, half the brunch menu was missing! This was very frustrating, since half of our family is vegetarian, and the vegetarian options were missing except for oatmeal. We asked about it and were told a chef left. We were bummed but thought this change would be temporary until they replaced this chef. A few months later, we were looking at their website and saw the full brunch menu! With the quinoa cake and the grain bowl, which are DELICIOUS!! So we went back and turns out they hadn't updated their website. They still didn't have the best things on the menu anymore. We turned around and walked right back out. Such a disappointment. Never got to try the food but horrible first impression! My Duke and I arrived about 10 minutes after opening on 8.20.19 to find a completely empty restaurant and no staff in sight. I had breakfast here and it was really good. I looked at the plate and was like, this is gonna be no problem, but I left beyond full (but yes, I finished it all). Usually I wouldn't get anything with gravy, because most are just too bland, tasteless. My choices on the menu, however, didn't give me a choice, and I'm glad. So apparently this place is a restaurant too...who knew ?!? I had only been here for the night life previously. A friend suggested we actually come here to eat dinner-especially since they have vegan options and she is all about that life. Well, we came in and ordered drinks first-and lets be clear, they have some great combos for drinks. Everything I had was pretty darn tasty. I ordered the NC pork, one of my go to's. It came out on their vegan potato roll-holy crap, soooo good! I also chose strawberries as my side, and they tried their best to make it look like there were more than there really were on my plate, a little disappointed in that portion. This restaurant is my go to spot. The workers are very friendly and food is very quick for being a restaurant. Brunch is more than worth it and the breakfast BLT is served from the heavens. If you're thinking dinner and a show, you've found the place to go. There are shows more than once a week. The go to meal for dinner is the fried cauliflower as an app and the "Pony Burger." I crave this burger once a week at least. This is the only restaurant I ever recommend and it is always the first place I think for my out of town friends. read more

Just moved from DC to the region and happened to stop in randomly on a dead Monday night for a drink and still loved the place. There was only a few people at the bar, and all of them were friendly, as was the bartender. In DC, I've spent a lot of time at the Black Cat over the years, and The Golden Pony gave me that old Black Cat DC punk vibe. I will definitely be returning, maybe to check the weekend vibe and to see a show. Hopefully, it won't be full of college douchebags, or ill stick to weekdays. read more

Unlike one of the other reviewers I think this place is very reasonably priced. We just went for a quick breakfast without drinks, but checked out the drink and dinner menu. The place looks good. The servers was nice. The breakfast was very good but the sausage tasted a bit strange to us. I know they make their own maybe it was an off morning or maybe we just aren't used to the spices they use. I was nervous about bringing our kids here (as I had heard it w as more of a bar type location) but it was a great place to bring the kids for breakfast. I would bring them here for lunch or/and an early dinner. I look forward to eating and even having a drink or two here again in the near future. read more
