Last night was the second time I had been to The Grape Tap. It's a little drive from Anchorage, but totally worth it! Both times I've been the service and food has been excellent. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We tried a few of the appetizers and a bottle of Riesling and everything was amazing! We sat outside which was set up well for social distancing and provided a beautiful grassy landscape for a lovely evening. I will definitely be going back. read more

A coworker found this place online and I said I wanted to try it out. We live in Tok, AK and my husband and I were going to Anchorage for appointments. We decided to make a reservation for our 5 year wedding anniversary. It was absolutely amazing! We showed up early and we got right in, our table was set up all pretty and everything. Our table was in the Wine Cellar with a comfy couch with pillows and a cute table for two. The service was quick, friendly and very informative. Our server was very knowledgeable with the food, wines and beers to offer. The food was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! This is definitely a place I would come back to. House-seasoned nuts (watch out--they are addictive) provide a glimpse of delicious dishes to come. The atmosphere was cool the food was delicious but I got really sick, Everyone that came with us had the same thing and nobody else got sick but me I think it was because I was the only person that ordered a particular beer that nobody else ordered that but me, so there could've been some thing wrong with the tap. We stopped by to eat dinner because if the reviews. Honestly the food was not bad but I wouldn't give it 4stars. The lamb was not seasoned that well (I've ate lamb in the Middle East so I know how it should taste). Also the seafood pasta was ok. Small proportion for sure. Would I came back again... I enjoyed my first time at The Grape Tap! I will definitely come again. The location in a pioneer style home is adorable, especially when you get to eat in the cozy wine cellar downstairs. The champagne cocktails we started with were delicious, and pretty reasonably priced. My partner had a steak that he said was delicious, although it was cooked more rare than the medium he ordered. I got the seafood lasagna, which was quite tasty, though I thought the bed of greens it was on was a little extraneous. I'm taking a couple stars off only because there were some elements missing from a truly fine dining experience (which the prices would indicate we should expect). For one thing, the wait staff cleaned off the tables next to us with Lysol wipes. It's VERY difficult for me to get my appetite back when I'm hit with the intense smell of fake citrus cleaner. This may just be a personal preference, but I wish they had cleaned off the tables with something a little less pungent. The nachos starter was very tasty, but I was disappointed that it was pretty clearly something I could've made myself at home. The chips seemed to be Tostito's rounds, with cheddar cheese and beans and shrimp. I just wish there was something to make it stand out beyond the grocery store, like chips made in house or even a special kind of cheese, maybe made into a roux? Again, it was very good, but I'd say not worth the price. With a couple other small things like a forgotten appetizer and no salad forks, I give this place 3/5 for a fine dining experience in particular (though a 4/5 overall). Certainly, if you're in the Valley and looking for a good date night spot, I'd happily recommend this place. You're going to be splurging, but if you play your menu choices right, it'd be worth it. read more

Update: my original review is from a visit several weeks ago. I was in Wasilla on Wednesday and decided to give the Grape Tap another try as my experience just didn't jive with all the great things I have heard about them. I am glad I did as this time it was as though I was in a different restaurant. When I was seated a ramekin of sweet and spicy nuts appeared with the water...they were wonderful. First off, I asked if there was a Captain's List of wines, there is. THIS one had a hugely better selection than what I had been previously been given. I told the waiter, TK (who is very personable and attentive without being intrusive), my preferences in wines and asked for recommendations. She was honest and told me she would ask someone more knowledgeable than she. I ended up getting on of the recommendations and was satisfied with it. Ordered the 8oz of Filet Mignon tips appetizer served in a Cambenzola cream sauce with Blue Cheese crumbles- delicious! It turned out to be enough for a meal for me so I had the Almond flour chocolate cake with swirls of raspberry sauce and Creme Anglaise, very good. The owner, Kirsten came around as I was finishing up and I told her about both experiences as well a having a nice discussion about wines. The best food I have had in a long time. We started with the Artisan Bread basket and Seared moroccan spiced sea scallops served over gorgonzola sauce with a balsamic reduction drizzle. We had the peppercorn crusted New York with julienne carrots and mash, and Prawns w/Israeli cous cous. for dessert we had a peanut butter, Oreo mudslide pie and a cinnamon creme brulee. All were excellent. We don't usually order so much, but when we go someplace new to us we try more just to see how it is. Service was pretty good. A great place for a first or 37th date. Small, intimate, and local. A place you can dress up or stay AK-casual. Worth the drive from Anchorage to avoid the same ole-same ole Glacier Brewhouse, Simons, Sullivan's, etc. The menu is great too. Creative and classic. Service was lacking. I'd heard many people refer to this place as the nicest place to eat in the valley, so my hopes were up. I asked our waitress about wine pairings (assuming that a nice restaurant literally called the grape tap would have info on this) and was sadly disappointed when she said she had no idea, chuckled, and walked away. I had the Drumheller cab sav 5oz whine which was delicious. I then order 3 different apps, the 'Not so cheap dates' and the 'Moroccan scallops' and the 'five cheese mac & cheese'. The scallops were perfectly seared and fantastic. The dates we savoury and delicious the only thing I would recommend is if they offer a dipping sauce for the dates. Perhaps the sauce they use for the scallops? And finally the mac and cheese was incredible. Lastly I had Ian as my server and he was great. He took my order by memory, was attentive and was quick to remove items from my table. Grape tap was gracious enough to allow us to host my bridal shower downstairs in their gorgeous wine cellar. Ian was our server and made sure each and every one of us 30 ladies had champagne and hot food, and anything we needed while we were down there. He was excellent! It was a perfect intimate location for a bougie boozy brunch. Kirstin the owner met with my maid of honor and I before the shower to choose menu items & tasted champagnes to serve. The entire process was very seamless from start to finish and was also relatively affordable considering all 30 ladies had full bellies and all the champagne and wine they could drink in 3 hours. We love this place! I almost always order the in season and have eaten it either by itself or added halibut to it! Incredibly fresh and I love that they use local and seasonal vegetables when they can! My husband has ordered something different every time and has never been disappointed with the special of the day. Everything is cooked to perfection and I've never heard him complain yet! I would definitely recommend reservations if you are going on a weekend night, as they are usually pretty busy, and ask to sit downstairs in the cellar! My first experience with The Grape Tap was an intimate dinner in the "Wine" cellar. The ambiance for a romantic dinner for two was perfect and all the food we had that evening was delicious. My second experience was a little more chaotic with a small table for two by the bar and front door, and the restaurant was very crowded.
