We contracted with The Great American BBQ to cater a Pool Party in Westchester, NY. The contract read a $2,000 food minimum, plus additional costs for the grill & gas, tents for the caterers, hourly charges for 3 service individuals which included 3 additional hours plus the 2 hours for our event, a 13% administrative fee plus applicable taxes. Our original guest list was for 40 adults and 4 children, at a price of $39.95 per person. However, our final head count given to the caterer was 27. Knowing that we had a $2,000 minimum just for food and beverages, and a lower number of attendees than originally expected we made our final menu selection with the planner, who knew we were expecting to have leftovers that could be frozen or would keep in the refrigerator for a period of time. In fact we went over the $2,000 minimum. The food itself was good as were the servers who were paid an additional gratuity. They did package the four sides, a tray of pulled pork and a tray of brisket, a few pieces of cheese, a small bunch of grapes and a handful of crackers from the extra cheese platter, a few veggies from the extra crudité tray, and a few small slices of watermelon, part of the basic BBQ . Not a single hamburger, cheeseburger, veggie burger or hotdog was left. Not a single roll to accompany the leftover meats, the brisket was an additional $10 per person. None of the dips from the crudités platter or any shrimp from the platter of shrimp with its extra pound of shrimp remained. I was informed after the event when I contacted our planner that whatever the company ate was considered what we had paid for and the rest was brought back to be returned to inventory. We found that unacceptable. It was food we had paid for and whatever was not consumed should have remained with us. We were also told that no where in the contract did it say we should expect leftovers. It should be understood that you get what you pay for. I would never use them again, nor would I recommend that anyone else use them. read more

Just returned from a terrific luncheon at Sam's of Gedney Way -- its subsidiary the Great American BBQ put out a delicious spread --- pulled pork on potato rolls, delicious Carolina slaw, grilled chicken in BBQ sauce - a touch of Italian with cherry tomatoes and boccocini -- and the crowning touch: corn pudding! Used them for my Son's SHS graduation and they did not disappoint! I was so happy with the menu options, food was delicious. Grilled right in my driveway! Boyfriend and I tried the pop-up Barbecue restaurant and ordered the sampler with a side of sweet potato fries. When we first walked in, the outdoor tent was completely empty even though the 'Barbecue Open' sign was turned on. We were a bit confused so we made our way into Sam's of Gedney Way and Peter (who we later found out was the owner) explained due to the summer heat and humidity they brought the pop-up Barbecue seating indoors. This was great since it started to poor shortly after we arrived. Service was great and everyone was very friendly. Pulled pork and chicken breast were my favorite. The sweet potato fries were awesome, very light and crispy. Portions were perfect for two. Bill came out to under $50 including a few beers. Will definitely be returning before the pop-up restaurant ends in the fall! read more

I ordered the spicy fried cauliflower all I was just this little pieces didn't even add up to a whole carful what a rip off it taste horrible I waited forever to get them and at first I told the kid do I have to order food I really only came for the band I walked the whole miles where I live and it was not worth the walk. The guy who was singing was all over the place. I feel like if I didn't like it the waitresses just removed it I ate very little of all of it I really don't want to talk to the manager I don't wanna waste my time I already wasted a whole hour unnecessary. Great American BBQ catered our rehearsal dinner in August 2013. They made our party of approximately 100 guests a success. From the start, our sales/event coordinator, Natasha, was responsive, professional, and was always aware of our budget constraints. She independently coordinated with our florist whenever necessary. During the day of the rehearsal dinner, we ran into some unexpected trouble when the coach bus transporting our guests got into a car accident. Natasha and the rest of the staff handled the situation professionally and efficiently. By the time the guests finally arrived, hot food was served as scheduled. They also offered to extend the party an extra 30 minutes. Additionally, the head waiter (captain) made sure that my wife and I approved of the set up. As we had a lot of mingling to do, she made sure our stomachs were full and our thirsts were quenched. The food was also quite good. I generally have high standards when it comes to food, particularly BBQ, but GABBQ did a great job. The grilled chicken was moist, the salmon was flavorful, and the ribs were tender. The buttered biscuits were also a big hit. I recommend Great American BBQ without reservations. read more

I hired them for my wedding reception at a local park and they were great! My phone calls were always answered and emails were returned promptly. They were very helpful and professional throughout the planning process (we had a big event with a lot of special requests). The day of the wedding they did an excellent job setting up. I was late, but they had arrived right on time and had all of their stuff set up perfectly and ready to go for the event so that I didn't have to do anything when I got there. All though the wedding they were very attentive and consulted me regularly to ensure that their timing was good for the various parts of the meal (cake cutting etc.). The serving staff was courteous and professional. The food and drinks were excellent- my guests all seemed very happy and me and my husband were both very pleased. We got exactly what we wanted and working with them was so easy!!! I was also really happy with their use of "green" biodegradable utensils and the fact that they offered beer from my favorite local brewery (which our guests really liked too!). I work in a high end service industry and know good service when I see it. I would definitely recommend their services and would use them again! read more

Great American BBQ has been doing the catering for my company for several years, and they are a great outfit to have for a large event. The variety and quality of their foods served is excellent, they are well staffed, and they have responded to feedback by making the appropriate changes each time. Additionally, they have also made a conscious effort to accommodate healthy diets and vegetarian diets, so that they strictly don't just provide the quality burgers and fries that they are usually accustomed to serving. I would recommend them for large events (and small too!) because they have the staff and capacity to really feed alot of people well without sacrificing the quality. read more

We had our first ever catered event last year for my daughters graduation party. It was around 70 people - with about another 15 of her friends coming in the evening once many of the adults had left. We used The Great American BBQ, and I may never have another un-catered event again. It was the easiest party I've ever hosted - they took care of everything- and the food was amazing and totally customizable. You can also provide some of your own food (eg a deserts, or a side that only grandma makes the best) and they will serve it with theirs. We went with a pig roast option which was a great and fun spectacle, as well as delicious. They price based on the number of guests, but are very generous with their portioning and we had tons of leftovers. Their very helpful team set up, looked after our guests, cooked on premises (they set up in our back yard and driveway) and cleaned up before they left. It was a wonderful experience - we received a ton of compliments on their behalf - and worth every penny. They have different pricing options to chose from so you don't need to sell your shirt if you don't want to. I couldn't recommend them more and will definitely use them again. read more

If you even think of using this company for a catered event, think twice and think very hard. The food was awful. When you hear BBQ you think of bbq'd chicken and ribs. Not to mention good old American hot dogs and hamburgers......drooling yet? Well, if you are-GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! We had a wedding this past weekend and looked forward to fun food instead of the usual wedding fare. What we got was shriveled up hot dogs in hamburger buns (they ran out of hot dog buns after 30 minutes). hamburger hockey pucks, dried out hot sausage, etc. The service was OK because they showed up but, other than that... Nothing to write home about. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. When I called to speak with them, they didn't even offer an apology. I wasn't calling for money back just to give them feed back on what I heard from other guests at the event. They were so nonchalant about the negative feedback that I figured the Internet was probably a much better medium in which to comment. I'd say about 110 people out of 140 were disappointed.
