There's nothing more special than Mother's Day brunch at the Kittle House Inn in Chappaqua, NY. We were seated in the bar area, where you could really feel the historic, cozy charm of the inn. Reservations filled quickly, so I felt lucky to secure a 12:00 noon table for four -- my wife, mother-in-law, son, and me. The brunch featured a prix-fixe menu, and honestly, everything sounded delicious. My son and I ordered Bloody Marys, while my wife and mother-in-law chose mimosas. I was starting to feel very sophisticated at that point. The croissants with assorted spreads and jams were outstanding. I started with the oysters, which were perfectly prepared and practically melted in your mouth. My wife was initially going to order the mixed salad, but I convinced her to try the burrata and prosciutto instead -- a great decision. My son ordered the spicy yellowfin tuna pizzetta, and my mother-in-law had the cream of artichoke soup. I sampled everything except the soup; I didn't think sticking my spoon into my mother-in-law's bowl was the best idea. Everything we tasted was excellent. The entrées were equally impressive. My salmon was unbelievably fresh, my son's filet mignon was tender and flavorful, and my wife's lobster eggs Benedict was rich and delicious. My mother-in-law enjoyed the spring vegetable quiche. Up until that point, everything had gone smoothly. Then service started to slip a bit. Desserts were taking an unusually long time, and no one had come over to ask whether we wanted coffee, espresso, cappuccino, or tea. When I finally requested coffee, the waiter didn't even ask what kind we wanted. The general manager came over and apologized for the delay, but I struggled to explain that the issue wasn't just the wait -- it was the lack of attention to detail and service standards you expect at a restaurant like the Kittle House, especially at this price point. I was happy to pay for a fine dining experience; I simply expected the service to match. What really caught me off guard was when he responded by asking, "Do you work in restaurants?" I found that somewhat offensive, as if my opinion needed credentials to be valid. Ironically, I actually have 30 years of hospitality experience, including work at Forbes-rated properties. We were never proactively told that significant renovations would be underway. In fact, we were explicitly guaranteed that construction would not affect our wedding -- that it would be limited to a small area downstairs and that everything would be completed in time. That was not the reality. We later learned that the kitchen had been demolished and that the inn -- where our friends and family were expected to stay -- was undergoing major renovations. We were not informed directly. Instead, we learned of updates through the venue's social media posts rather than through any professional communication. We were repeatedly reassured that everything would be finished and that there was nothing to worry about. When we expressed concern based on what we were seeing and hearing, we were made to feel as if we were overreacting. That dynamic, being told everything was fine while clear evidence suggested otherwise, was incredibly unsettling. What we were also not told was that immediately after our wedding weekend, the venue would shut down for major construction. Learning that the property could close for extensive renovations the very next day only reinforced how incomplete and inaccurate the information we had been given truly was. Even more troubling, we learned that other events had been notified of these changes and offered the option to move their dates. We were never given that same courtesy. We were never offered flexibility. We were never given the opportunity to reassess. The venue we contracted for was not the venue that existed on our wedding weekend. But what lingers most is not just the construction -- it is how we were treated. A wedding requires partnership. It requires trust, transparency, and leadership that make you feel supported during one of the most meaningful moments of your life. That was not our experience. When we raised concerns -- calmly, respectfully, and in good faith -- the response was consistently defensive and, at times, outright rude. The tone shifted quickly from welcoming to adversarial. We loved our experience at the Kittle House on Mother's Day. It felt like a welcome home dinner with our friends still at the helm. Leo is an exceptional Som and helped us make our final wine selection; the lobster eggs Benedict were so rich I had to get help to finish them. My husband and son's salmon, they said, were special and perfectly cooked. I thought the plate of croissants and scones were a wonderful touch as they came to our table immediately after we were seated. The new decor is quite handsome. Bathrooms are beautifully restored. I look forward to eating outside under the new umbrellas without being eaten alive by mosquitoes. The private spaces downstairs look elegant too. We had an awful experience at Kittle House on Father's Day. The restaurant was offering a prix fixe menu, and while the appetizers were fine and the dessert was enjoyable, the main courses were extremely disappointing. The Brussels sprouts (which cost extra) were inedible, and both the Eggs Benedict and the steak and eggs were poorly prepared and not enjoyable. Given the price and the occasion, we expected much better. The setting is beautiful and the property is lovely, but unfortunately the food did not live up to the surroundings. Just had an amazing dinner celebrating my husbands' birthday! I have never tried swordfish before but our waiter recommended it! it was the best fish dish I've had... moist, tasty and the risotto was a perfect side with it! I was really excited to get back to Kittle House after they reopened, for a holiday meal. We started with the bluefin tuna sushi pizzetta and the beet salad, both were very flavorful. The tuna was pretty spicy and the beet salad had a lot of fresh fruit in addition to being perfectly dressed. For main course we split the ribeye which came with potatoes au gratin, creamed spinach and gravy. The ribeye was perfectly cooked and delicious. We ended the dinner with the Kittle Kat dessert, always a great choice. Service was a little slow, it seemed like the kitchen was still getting used to being open, but the wait staff was attentive and friendly to make up for it. After speaking with our waiter (who was fantastic) I hear there are more additions and changes coming, but we had a great meal. I also got the tuna on crispy rice and this was just ok. The tuna was fresh but didn't have much of a flavor and the pieces were a little too big. Was hoping this reopen under the new owners would be better. Been coming here for decades under the Crabtree ownership. Unfortantely, I believe it has done down hill. The menu was greatly compressed. No more game dishes and different seafood options. The redesign of the place also was strange. The elegant big room has been reduced, and the grill/bar area expanded. But the main problem was very slow service on a Saturday night. Took about a half hour to get our drinks. The starters came out right away, but the main course took over an hour wait. Unacceptable. A former corporate wine merchant, pairing wine with food is a passion for us. and this amazing Farm to Table restaurant constructed in 1790 with the 3rd best rated wine cellar in America. I ordered a dozen roses and had them displayed on our table ahead of arriving. Speaking with the sommelier, I was looking for a 94 Bordeaux, Merlot or something that can stand up to a Steak but not become too bitter with fish. He came up with a 94 Leonetti Cellar Merlot, from the Walla Walla Valley. It was not in the catalog so the manager ask if we would pay a very reasonable price for what is an amazing bottle of wine. We shared a glass with the manager and sommelier, Changed the creamed spinach to a risotto to better partner with the steak and my wife had the Hiddenfjord Organic Scottish Salmon. With so much going on, I forgot pictures. After talking with the Manager and Sommelier, they gave us a tour of the wine cellar and showed us bottles over a hundred years old. They also have a table for ten in the wine cellar area where you can have different courses with wine pairings. Crabtree's Kittle house is in our rotation. Under new ownership there is a complete kitchen remodel going on the the kitchen is outside under a tent. The food was still great and presented well, but the full menu was not in play. With no separation between the bar and the room, sitting at the bar is uncomfortable, like having a high school cafeteria behind you, and we even had trouble hearing the bartender. Same problem with hearing the servers. The new menu was very flat - nothing seasonal/artisanal or local, although the food was tasty and the portions, appetizers and entrees, were very large. Food was a good value for the price. The drinks however were expensive. So I recommend going in a group of 6 or 8, since you will need to shout down the table anyway, eat family style splitting appetizers and entrees, and order wine by the bottle not the glass. read more

Went to this famous restaurant and in built in 1790. Offers farm-to- table food in several charming dining rooms. They also have an amazing wine cellar. Started with a very good Beet Salad with organic beets, toasted pistachios, coach farm goat cheese, and blood orange vinaigrette. For mains, my wife tried the Beef Brisket Chili served with sour cream and a three year aged cheddar, she really liked it. I being a game nut tried their grilled Highland Farms Venison Loin, chanterelles,, baby turnips,, smoked moscato grapes, and wild huckleberries. Excellent and a great presentation. Alas, Crabtree Kittle was the goto for a special Saturday night or birthday. Was easily my favorite spot. Fine dining with that great piano guy. The interior of the restaurant is airy and pleasant, not stuffy or overly loud or oppressive. That was great especially with the Kids. The food was a dinner menu for Mother's day with various choices . We had a few different appetizers like asparagus soup, lobster bisque and crab salad, which were all good. The Main course 2 Filet 1 snapper and 1 seafood spaghetti. All of those arrived cold and filets were undercooked, rare instead of medium rare. Everything had to go back. The two filets arrived as fresh cuts, properly cooked, and the fish and the spaghetti were reheated. The desserts were OK but nothing special. The total bill came to more than 800$ with only one glass of wine, no other drinks, the rest Sparkling water. The good: - The ambience, - The service - That they got it right the second time. My husband and I returned to Crabtree Kittle House to celebrate our 23rd anniversary on November 3, 2024. The food was absolutely fabulous and everything regarding the dinner was terrific. The wait staff were very attentive and polite. We were so pleased to see that the same care is giving to the food as it was during our wedding there back 23 years ago. I understand that Kimberly is still the event planner which I am sure have made many other happy couple enjoy their weddings there in more recent years. We went to the Kittle House for early dinner service in NYE. The food was good. Servers were nice, but a few things were missing. First, the experience just didn't seem to have the pop that I expected from a higher end restaurant creating an occasion. The interactions with staff felt somewhat transactional, not quite warm, and there were limited interactions between parties. Perhaps the staff also felt under experienced? This may not have been an issue on a random Tuesday, but felt misplaced on NYE. Maybe it was the early seating. On the food, the dishes were generally good to quite good, but did not feel at all innovative, which would have ben nice for the price. More problematic, the proteins in our mains were not properly cooked. My companion's salmon was clearly overcooked. She graciously ate it anyway. I ordered the chateaubriand, which was delicious, but my medium rare came 80% rare. It was rare to the point that I personally couldn't enjoy it, so I sent it back (a little rare texture is great, but mostly raw makes me queasy). The predictable then happened, the steak was returned well done, utterly destroyed. This never should have made it back to our table. They were kind enough to send a new piece of meat, but this time it was medium to medium well, which is a travesty for a fillet and was not on the same level as the medium rare bits of their first steak. All of this back and forth threw off the timing of our meal. Our server was kind enough to suggest another glass of wine to bridge the gap, but I was somewhat surprised to see the second glass of wine on our bill instead of comped due to the kitchen issues. None of this was awful. It is a lovely place with good food, but I feel they missed the mark. For the price point, I expected service to be on point, proteins perfectly cooked, and It would have been nice to feel like I had experienced something new and exciting in some part of the meal. read more

The room was beautiful and huge like a large one bedroom apartment... felt like it was 800 sq feet. The only complaint I have is that there's no Wi-Fi, and there are very few electrical sockets, and I found only 2 that I could use easily. Lovely ambiance, but attention to detail and quality of the food and beverages have gone downhill in the last few years. We used to come every year, nearly 20 years, for a holiday dinner and were always blown away, but the food and experience the last couple of years has simply been "meh." The service was very slow and transactional when present--not the high touch and welcoming service we have received in the past. While seated for a nice dinner with my family. I was wearing a satin dress for the holidays. Halfway through the meal, I realized my skirt was stuck to a piece of gum under our table! I looked and there were about 5 pieces of gum stuck under the table--I expect a cleaner environment at this caliber of establishment. And although our waiter got me a wet napkin to try and clean the gum off my dress, no one from management came over, neither to apologize nor to ask if we would like to move to another table. I wish they would have offered to pay for the dry cleaning of my skirt, or at least given us something complementary to express their apologies. They have also included separation between tables as an extra covid precaution. All staff were maksed 100% of the time. Service was impeccably done and very attentive. I love the location. The restaurant is in an old plantation-style house from the 1800s. The servers are on point. This is definitely a fine-dining establishment so that is to be expected. They have one of the most extensive wine lists in the country. There is a wine cellar that you can request to dine in. The food is phenomenal. The truffle mac and cheese was creamy and enhanced with truffle oil. The short rib was so tender you could tear it with your fork. The gravy around it was rich and delicious. The short rib was accompanied by collared greens and parsnips, both were delicious. Overall I was very impressed with the Kittle House. The service and the food are both outstanding. Every year for my parents' anniversary my brothers and I take them out for dinner. The past two years we went to the same restaurant, so this year we wanted to change it up a bit. We had all been to the Kittle House before for brunch, but were always curious about their dinner offerings. That being said, we decided to take them here to celebrate. The Kittle House acts as both a restaurant and and inn. Located in Chappaqua, the restaurant is kind of a destination spot due to its high quality food, killer wine selection, and overall upscale, historical aesthetics. Since we're in Westchester, the restaurant offered both indoor and outdoor dining, but we opted to eat outside. They did the outside very nice - tables well spaced apart, lights strung throughout the area, and a QR code at each table so we could read the menu on our phones. I wouldn't say it matched the historical charm of the interior decor exactly, but it complemented it well. The menu had a nice selection - mostly New American dishes with a few surprises like a barbecue plate and lobster. To start I had the burrata - this was paired with a few greens and slices of tomato. Overall it wasn't the best burrata I've had, but it had that creamy center which was nice. I would have liked to have seen it paired maybe with some prosciutto or asparagus to take it to the next level. For my main I had the salmon which was quite good. It was paired with black jasmine rice, broccoli rabe, and grape tomatoes. It also had a very light cream sauce which really tied everything together. The salmon was cooked well and overall the dish was a yes. For dessert I had their Kittle Krack pie which had a really buttery taste and consistency to it; they topped the pie with coconut gelato which was kind of random but worked. Their cocktail menu shouldn't be missed - the French martini which included pineapple juice was quite good. Service was good overall, though something that happened toward the end of my meal bothered me a bit. We were sitting outside and during the latter half of my time there the temperature dropped to below 50; fine - I had on a thick sweater and the restaurant had those tower heaters on so I could handle it. What irked me though was that I guess the cold bothered a table down the way so much that they asked the staff to move the heater closer to their table - and they did. That didn't seem fair to me because then it left my table without any source of heat - I would have appreciated at least being asked before something like that was done, or maybe explaining to the other table that there are other diners outside and the heat needs to be shared. All things considered though, the Kittle House provides a good dining experience. I would definitely return for a special occasion to explore more of their menu and wines. read more

Came for Sunday brunch for the first time and it was nice. Good variety of food to pick from off the 4 course brunch menu. They start the table off with fresh fruit and bagels. Then I got the shrimp cocktail appetizer which was delicious. Belgian waffle for my main which was just the right portion and tasty. Then the brownie for dessert which was more like a rich chocolate cake vs a brownie. I tried my sisters bread pudding and that was so good! Also very nice wait staff, all were very friendly. In slow decline in recent years, suddenly it's much worse (was it sold?). The dining room has always been stodgy and filled mostly with octogenarian diners but the waiters were highly competent and energetic. We all know how hard it is to get staff, but on a recent visit we had a waiter and bartender who seemed to have little experience in a restaurant either as servers or customers. Communications skills were an issue. The food was also not great - salads were blah, a steak sandwich was mostly onions on a strange piece of bread, and other dishes were ordinary or worse. me and my family have been coming to the Kittle house for over 20 years so def sad to hear about the sale but excited to give the new owners a chance. well it wasn't for us . the renovations don't work it has no charm as I said to my family this is now just. a business no more family feel. the martinis were 25 a piece and tiny that is literally insulting like. slap in the face . appetizers came out pretty quickly but the French onion soup was not hot enough and it was sweet which was weird . the entrees took an hr to get to us after we asked three times, they clearly don't know what they are doing , the Mac and cheese was worst than kraft literally. my pasta was hard and the manager guy came to me and this is literally what he said it's homemade pasta and not matter how long you cook it it doesn't ever get soft . they seem overwhelmed and out of place, the amount of people we saw waiting for food for long periods of time was crazy to the point we said something to a couple as we were leaving . also 90 percent of the staff looks new and it shows. we will never be going again and it sucks because it feels like we lost a long cherished friend . read more

Had 2 fabulous meals here where quality and consistency were displayed. The complimentary bread invoked memories of the best bread from Italy, slightly sour, the right chew and pull. Had a spot on beet and tomato salad. The salmon lox appetizer on toasted bread with crème fraise hit all the right marks. The bone in pork chop cooked perfectly. properly season and served over perfect whipped potatoes. Hanger Steak covered in chimichurri served with house cut fries came as ordered sliced and medium rare. The duck entree did not disappoint. And finally their famous molten lava chocolate pastry with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream was a dessert to remember.
