We went here because our hotel clerk suggested it when we were hungry at midnight and wanted a bar that served food. It was just down the street from our hotel and in such a lively location! There were always people walking by. We went every night of our trip, and it was packed every single night! Including a Wednesday! The food was delicious. We were addicted to ordering the soft pretzel and Reuben every single night. The drinks were fast and strong. I continued to order a gin & tonic and then tried an Irish coffee on our last night. Both great! The best part of this place was our server. He consistently took care of us (and started to remember us) and despite the insane crowds in there every night, he provided the best bar service we've ever received. I love this place and I love that it's in the middle of all the steakhouses , but it's just this little golden gem only regulars know about or people end up stumbling into. On 3/28, my friends and I came in around 4 PM. While bringing our drinks, the server spilled two full beers on my jeans. I had to spend about an hour in the bathroom trying to dry them. What made the experience worse was how it was handled. The server never came back to apologize, and we were still given the full check, including the automatic gratuity. We had to ask the manager to remove it, and instead of apologizing, she said, "These things happen." Accidents happen, but how a restaurant responds says everything. The total lack of apology or basic customer service was disrespectful, and I would avoid dining here. read more

I might be biased because I had a dog once named Dublin ... but there is always so many fun different groups of people there from college reunions to wedding parties. We decided to pop into this small inconspicuous little pub named Dublin as we meandered through the streets of The Gold Coast in Chicago. It's small and cozy with an obvious local clientele. Always a good sign. The staff are friendly and welcoming. This bar opens very early and stays open very late. They also do food. The menu is pretty big. As you can probably tell from the name, the vibe of Dublins is an Irish Pub. It's nearly impossible to find somewhere casual in Gold Coast, but Dublins is perfect if you don't feel like dressing to the nines for dinner and/or drinks. Perfect place to watch sporting events too. They had high quality bar food from my experience. I got their spicy chicken caesar wrap, which I was only slightly disappointed with because it tasted more like a buffalo wrap than caesar. I loved that it came on a little bed of caesar salad though and I also loved that the chicken was breaded inside. Best and most hospitable bar in Chicago!! Visited Dublins this past Friday night and I must say, we were not disappointed! Wanted to show my friends a Chicago dive bar and were hoping for good food and it exceeded our expectations! Ruben and Lucas took great care of us and made us feel so welcome!!! My friends and I enjoy people watching and being in the industry, we look to see how other restaurants/bars run their place.. I will say that guy Ruben at the door (green sweater greeting everyone), we saw him hosting/seating tables, bussing/cleaning tables, signing tickets that other workers brought to him, and saw him kick 2 ppl out that were over served. We were like holy crap this guy does a little bit of everything and he was sooooo nice!!! Hope Dublins is taking care of him wish we had a Ruben at our place too that would multitask like that!! Even saw him combine some tables for a big party when it looked like there was literally no room for them to sit! We tried to steal him to come work at our place but he respectfully said he's happy with Dublins.. Will definitely be back soon and will hopefully be back on a night that Ruben and Lucas are both working!! I came here two weekends in a row for drinks, and was even more impressed with the bar food. Excellent service, great drinks all around for a dive bar with good pours. The bartenders and staff in general take care of you as well. For food, we got the Mediterranean beef salad, which was delicious and fresh. Lots of meat with a nice dressing. We also got the spinach and artichoke dip, but this wasn't my favorite and was a bit watery. We got a side of fries, which was actually a huge plate and excellent thin cut fries. Ambience, second to none for a late night cold coast experience, always visit. For a place that's going to be crowded no matter what, and services a lot of entitled people, the staff is impressively fun and great attitude. I needed a cheaper place to eat. Although this place ain't exactly cheap, if you compare it to other restaurants in this area.....it's a lot better than paying $90 for a steak or $55 for a plate of pasta. There are many eateries doing that in this neighborhood. It was a late Sunday afternoon. Place was packed, but I found a lone stool at the bar. Music was loud. Bartender was coy, but friendly. One thing I was asked to do before ordering, was to let the bar hold on to my credit card! This is a first for me. Perhaps prevents dine & dash? I ordered a corn beef sandwich ($15) and a bottle of beer ($5.50). As I sat there waiting for my food, there was a heated discussion between a server and a manager. Another manager had to get involved as well. Despite the loud music, I could hear it. I was surprised they even discussed their problems right in front of a customer, but it is a very small and cramped joint. I could watch the kitchen do its thing from my bar stool. If cooks handling food without gloves is a deal breaker for you.....don't order anything to eat here. Sandwich arrived promptly, mediocre at best....along with a generous portion of French fries. It's $8 a pint. That seems kind of a lot but oh well. It's ice cold. They also have a better than expected food menu. Even vegetarians can find something good, because they have a Beyond Burger. It's $12 and is a big hunk of non meat. This comes with plentiful lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. Other food is typical for a bar. They have wings and those kind of greasy bar favorites. What happened to Dublin's? This used to be my go-to casual spot for good food, wine, and service. It had been a while since my last visit--life got busy after having a baby--but I was so excited to return for an afternoon out with a friend. Unfortunately, the experience completely ruined my rare day out. First, they no longer have a real wine selection--just basic house options for red, white, and rosé. Our waitress couldn't provide any details beyond that. We decided on a bottle of rosé, but as we poured it, we realized it was a low-calorie, low-alcohol version. That's not what we wanted. When we told them we didn't want it, they argued that because the bottle was open, they couldn't do anything. But we had tried to ask questions before ordering, and our waitress was no help. Eventually, they agreed to swap it for a bottle of red. However, the waitress simply placed the bottle on the table and walked away--we still had our small pours of rosé but no clean glasses. We waited, but no one came. After a while, we just drank the little bit of rosé left in our glasses and poured the red ourselves. The food was decent, and we were enjoying our afternoon--until the check arrived. We were shocked to see that we were being charged for the glasses of rosé. When we pointed out that we never received clean glasses, the manager came over and told us he had watched us finish the rosé. So, he knew we swapped the bottle but still chose to watch us drink from our old glasses instead of bringing new ones? After going back and forth, they refused to remove the charge. We asked to speak to someone else, and they told us to call or come in on Monday because they don't like to bother the GM on weekends--apparently, he only works Monday through Thursday. A general manager of a busy Gold Coast restaurant who doesn't work weekends? Really? I'm so disappointed. Dublin's used to be a place I loved and frequently recommended--I even work in the neighborhood. But after this experience? Never again. read more

Had lunch on 8/13 @ 1pm. Server was Ryan. We ordered a burger and asked if the kitchen could make a couple of patty melts even though it wasn't on the menu, which was baffling in the first place. We explained what it was and he left to ask the kitchen if they could make it. Any self respecting cook can make a patty melt. When he brought the two patty melts to the table, my friend calmly explained that it was prepared wrong and what needed to be done to correct it. It was any easy fix by the way. The three of us have been in the restaurant business for a combined 105 years and could not believe what came out of this servers mouth. He said as he picked up the two plates, "You know I'm doing you guys a fuckin favor!". We decided to stay in spite of our instinct to just walk out. We've all had bad days on the floor but this...this was a first. He never apologized. I imagine he said something to his manager because he comped 3 beers and one of the patty melts and a server rarely, if ever, has that power. Last time they will see us and the sad thing is, we run a restaurant in the Gold Coast and talk to a lot of people. read more

We really liked this small pub in the city. We sat at the bar receiving friendly and prompt service even though they were quite busy on a Friday evening. We had our typical Guinness. I got the fish and chips which were really good. My husband got the hot chicken and fries which he liked.
