I review this restaurant a lot because we live minutes away and they always do a great job and to be honest why drive very far especially with gas prices today. We went for lunch. I had one of my favs.. ahi tuna minus the seaweed and 2 extra crispy wontons. He had his fav steak tips .. medium and he changed the mashed to French fries because they make some of the best fries around! We sat at the bar and Barbara was on and she took good care of us. She is seasoned in the restaurant business and always does a great job! All in all it was wonderful as it always is. I so hope I sway people to go and enjoy this fabulous restaurant.. especially now that the weather is getting better and one can sit on the deck with the big beautiful ocean right in front of you! read more

I visited the Fairview yesterday with my girlfriend. It was my first time, but she had been there many times in the eight years she's lived nearby. When we entered, she introduced me to the young woman who greeted us and another woman, a waitress, who was standing beside her. My girlfriend introduced this waitress by telling us "she called me the n-word to my face". I was surprised and did not know how to react. This woman responded with "that was a joke". No apology, but an acknowledgement that she did actually say it. There is no context in which it is ok for her to use that word. There is no situation in which it is ok for her to say that to a woman of color DINING AND SPENDING MONEY IN YOUR RESTAURANT. There are many ways that a person can address the fact that they've said bad things in the past. "That was a joke"is not one of them. It's certainly not how it should be handled at work. There was no dispute that she said it. "You are a n*****." When called out, she said it was a joke. She did not say "I'm so sorry, I still feel awful", or "I'm so sorry I upset you", or even "I would never say that". Instead, she defended herself and her words by claiming it was a joke. It's not a joke and it never was. By saying that, she was letting me know that, while at work, there ARE acceptable uses for the n word. There are not. Do I need to say that I don't want to eat at a place where I might hear racial slurs? The waitress did not deny that she said it and she did not apologize. She defended herself and justified it. Saying it is disgusting and justifying it is disgusting. I have no suggestion for how to resolve this. Your waitress could have simply acknowledged that it is always wrong. Instead she chose to blame my girlfriend for taking it personally and not "getting the joke". Please clarify your position on when it is, and is not, ok for your staff to use racial slurs. If you think "it was a joke" makes it ok to look right at someone say "you're a n*****", you are wrong. It is indefensible. Allowing and defending this behavior is disgusting. Please take some action to show you understand. read more

Last night was my second time eating here. The first time was not a great experience but I liked the ambiance of the dining room and the water view so much I gave it a second chance. I was dining with 5 other people. We ordered drinks right away and looked at the menu. After a short wait the server came by and took our appetizer order. It took 30 minutes to get 4 chowders and 2 soups. It would be fine but the chowder was not hot. Lukewarm at best. It does have a little clam strip on top which is nice. After another wait we ordered dinner. It took almost one hour to get the food. The server did come over and apologize for the wait. The restaurant was only half full so it did not seem overly busy. I got salmon medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. My husband got steak tips cooked medium. They looked like they had been cooked yesterday. They were dry, overcooked and cold. He did like the vegetable medley though. Again we waited for the dishes to be cleared after we finished eating. The server cleared 4/6 of the dishes. Two people still had their dirty plates in front of them. We ordered dessert. Again after a long wait the dessert came. Dishes still not cleared from dinner. I ordered bananas foster one of my favorite desserts. It would have been good but it arrived cold with soggy waffles. We started this endeavor at 6:00 pm and didn't finish until 8:40. I am giving up on this place, sadly. I won't be back. read more

First timer on the recommendation (and gift card) of a friend. Parking is impossible, especially when entitled sport-car-driving-locals park diagonally across two spots. So my vibe was definitely put off! We sat outside. Loved the smell of salt air--didn't love the party of 5 sitting next to us speaking so loudly that we could almost be domestic partners now! ;). I wish patrons could be mindful of others when we're all out spending money to enjoy ourselves. But I digress. My seafood casserole was abundantly filling. Bread is served with a yummy hummus and olive tapenade. I wished I'd had room to start with chowder--my BILs looked awesome! Comes with a fried clam garnish! All the baked/broiled scallops were good. We've eaten at the Fairview many times, gone just for drinks at the bar, and even put our parents up there when we got married. We've never had a bad experience. The most difficult thing about this place is parking - they do get full inside and outside in the nice weather and the parking can be impossible, the food is always good - their prices are very reasonable and the bartenders are always quick and efficient. "I Want to Root for You... But You're Making It Hard" You ever walk into a restaurant genuinely wanting it to succeed? Like, you're practically on the sidelines with pom-poms chanting, "Let's go team!" -- but then the food comes out and you slowly lower those pom-poms because... yikes. That was my experience. I ordered the swordfish, which, in theory, should be a hearty, impressive cut. Instead, I've genuinely had burgers thicker than this. Not gourmet burgers, not fancy gastropub burgers -- I mean backyard, "my uncle forgot to press the patties evenly" burgers. This swordfish was also so dry it felt like it had been cooked hours earlier and left on a timeout somewhere. A sip of water actually sighed in relief when it finally reached my throat. And the part that hurts the most? This place is in such a gorgeous location, and it's somewhere we grew up going to. There's history. There are memories. Which is exactly why it's so sad to see it turning into... well, this. I'm not giving up hope -- the potential is still there -- but the next time I visit, I'm definitely ordering something that can survive a little dryness. Maybe the water. read more

Stopped by on the recommendation from a friend who also raved about their steak burgers. The restaurant was typical inn tavern style nicely decorated. Got seated with a short wait. Meanwhile staring at all the different entrees going by and being served and they all look good. Sat down and waited a while, 15 minutes before our waitress showed up to take our drink order. Said we're ready to order everything, drinks, appetizer and dinner. Got our drinks in about 2 minutes then waited about 20 minutes before our food arrived. Our friend raved about their steak burgers. Juicy, rare and delicious. The way I would like it. Well, must have been a bad night cause when my wife and I order the burgers, her's medium rare and mine rare, they both came out well done and inedible. Fries were salty and cooked in old oil. Also ordered the stuff mushrooms which was Okay Aside from burgers, we will probably return to give another chance and order other items besides the burger. read more

Stay far far away from this restaurant. We waited over 2hrs for a meal that never arrived. We asked to speak with management who were "too busy" to talk to us. Meanwhile place was empty. As we walked out after 2hrs. 15min with no food, the Cook a.k.a. Chef/Manager came out and called us A$$holes for leaving and said the food is almost ready. Too little too late. Took my parents yesterday - they were visiting from out of town and it's their favorite place to eat here! It was a perfect meal. We started off on the deck but my mom got cold so we relocated inside to one of the cozy booths. And luckily, because they weren't busy, we got to keep the same server, Barbara. She was absolutely fantastic. We enjoyed the ocean view for sure. We started with oysters, the tomato basil soup, and stuffed mushrooms. Everything was delicious. For entrees we shared everything. The Cobb salad with seared ahi tuna- so good. The special- "parsnip haddock"- OMG it was incredible. Fish was cooked perfectly, the parsnip purée was amazing, and the side of mashed with lobster and corn- just wow! My mom requested veggie primavera pasta (not on the menu) and the chef kindly made it for her and she said it was the best pasta she's ever had. My family and I dined at the Grill at Fairview Inn this past Sunday. We really enjoyed the location and ambience. The food was very tasty (although my husband did order a filet medium well and it came out rare. See photo attached. He had to wait 25 minutes until the steak came back cooked properly.). Aside from that hiccup, the food was great! Our waitress was very sweet. She was one of only two women waiting tables in the entire restaurant, and I felt really bad for both of them. Lots of empty tables remained with dirty dishes on them for the entirety of the night, and a table of two elderly women sitting next to us waited well over 35 minutes for someone to come by and bring their check so that they could leave. I am guessing perhaps some waitstaff called out sick or otherwise didn't show up that day, which is unfortunate. Despite the lack of support, these two waitresses were kind, friendly and hardworking. Kudos to them! Unfortunately, we did have a very unpleasant experience involving the bartender who was working that day, whom I was told is named Carolyn. My husband and I ordered an after-dinner drink. Our server took our order with a smile and went over to the bartender to place it. (Our table was right next to the bar). Out of the blue, we hear Carolyn, in a loud voice, say to the server "What?? In this drink, they want to use spiced rum instead of vodka???! EWWWW ...YUCK!!!!" with a disgusted look on her face. We were shocked. She shook her head and begrudgingly went over to make our drink, which she was very vocal about disapproving of. My husband and I couldn't believe her behavior. Never in our entire lives have we been treated this way by a bartender who didn't approve of our drink preference. It was so rude and completely unprofessional for her to loudly proclaim her disgust at our order. Everyone around her could hear her, and it left us feeling embarrassed. The bartender's role is to take an order and make it, all the while being professional. She is not supposed to vocalize her disdain for or disgust of someone's drink preference. I truly hope Carolyn was having an 'off' day and that this isn't a pattern of behavior for her. We were surprised when we received our bill that not one item was credited as a courtesy given the fact my husband's steak was severely undercooked and he had to wait another 25 minutes to get back cooked appropriately and also given the fact we just overheard the bartender loudly proclaiming how disgusting our drink order was. Most restaurants comp a minor item (even something as small as an ice cream or one drink) as a way to apologize or make amends for the restaurant's error or staff behavior, but in this case, it didn't happen. We really liked the food and the location, and we may be back someday to give it another try; however, if and when we do, we hope that Carolyn will not be working as we really don't want to be subjected to her rude treatment again. read more

Ten minutes later same answer I'm sorry . Our friends sat outside And were finished and bill paid before we even got our food, No reason no asking how are things going no second drink. When we got up to leave to pay for our drinks no apologies and no can we buy u a drink etc. we were frequent customers going back to the old 139 restaurant but no longer EVER will we visit this place. I made reservations at 8 am on a Saturday for Saturday evening at 6 pm for outdoor seating, when we arrived at the restaurant we were informed that outdoor reservations were not available , but apparently the groups that did call ahead seating at 5 were given preferential seating for the outdoor seats. Not sure why I bothered with the reservation as the inside was basically empty anyway. Food was average, waitress was good , but the overall experience was a bit questionable. Not sure I would bother in the future with the poor customer service. Also while we were sitting inside after we were told we couldn't have an outside seat we watched the outdoor seats remain empty. I stayed at the INN for a few days to escape from work and family. Lol, The room I stayed in was nice. Very clean . From my balcony I could see the ocean. The staff told me I was the only one staying at the Fairview. I guess that's possible because it's December. Thank goodness the weather was nice. The room was a typical hotel room, coffee maker, fridge, nice size tv. There was also a microwave in the common area. The water pressure was awesome and very hot water. The Fairview has a restaurant down stairs. I ate dinner on my first night. Nicely decorated with a huge fireplace. The server was great suggesting menu items. The inn only serves lunch and dinner, but there are many places to eat within walking distance. Beautiful sunrise, the area was very nice had lots of summer homes. I ate lunch at the bar. The bartender was very attentive and suggested some menu items. The prices were reasonable. I had a great guest experience with the Inn employees. Lots of privacy. I haven't stopped dreaming about the scallop grilled cheese since I swooned over it Saturday. My boyfriend and I were just wandering around for the day, and ended up in marshfield. First time eating dinner in town, stumbled across this place and a friend who is familiar with the area said 100% try Fairview! Boyfriend got a burger and sweet potato fries which he enjoyed. I got the scallop grilled cheese and truffle fries, washed it down with a seasonal white sangria. Everything was delicious. Patio was perfect, the view? Unreal. We started with a bottle of wine and an appetizer and apparently if you dont order your meal when you order your appetizer, it can be an issue. We said we aren't in a rush. After ordering a bottle of wine and an appetizer he kept coming to the table and we said, we will let you know when we are ready to order our entrees. We got so annoyed with him keep coming to our table to order our entrees we just ordered. I said to him "are you busy tonight" he said no. I felt like saying then WHY are you rushing us. That just annoyed me even more. The highlights are: The food was amazing. Best food we've had since the pandemic. The lowlights are: Man, a waiter or waitress can make or break your night and/or experience. Get rid of the guy waiter who rushes his guests when there isn't a busy night expected. Rang in 2022 correctly with a delicious meal at The Grill at Fairview Inn in Marshfield, MA! Visiting the Cape during the winter is so worth it. Food pictured: 1) Corned Beef Egg Rolls - Shredded cabbage, Swiss cheese, mustard aioli and Guinness grain mustard for dipping. 2) Filet Formaggio - Pepper-seared center cut filet, garlic and herb goat cheese, red wine reduction, asparagus and zucchini. 3) Fried Scallops - House fries, slaw, lemon wedge and tartar sauce. Went to dinner with my wife and had an excellent meal. I started with a garden salad $5.00 which was very good, my wife had a salad with apples, cranberry's and walnuts for $6.00. I had the steak special Ribeye 16 oz, asparagus, and baked potato for $28. My wife had tomato bisque soup. Food was great, service was excellent. We listened to waves crashing against the wall walking in and sat next to a fireplace for a second to none Ambience. My wife and I dined at Fairview on Easter Sunday and were met with stellar service and served exquisite food. I had a perfectly cooked salmon topped with Maryland crab, and a touch of hollandaise sauce. Moreover, the whipped potatoes and asparagus were superb. Everything was really good here. Our server was nice and attentive. We came here for a four-top dinner. We ordered some apps, wine, entrees and dessserts. The ambaince and welcoming and beach friendly. The food was great but we all ordered steaks and they were all overcooked from what we ordered. The scallop and crab stuffed mushrooms app was rich and decadent, but worth it if you share! The sesame-seared Ahi tuna app was fresh and tasty. Dessert was also delicious. Went Tuesday night @5:45, left at 7:40. Service was terrible, food mediocre, did not order apps, or cocktails. Once the water was set down it was 20 minutes before our server came back with menus. Had to ask for a cocktail/wine menu. Placed our order at 6:30. Received our food at 7:10, Server came back 15 minutes later to check if everything was okay. It wasn't but too late to change anything at that point. At 7:30 asked the bus-boy to get our check as our server was nowhere around. We tried this place once before and pretty much nothing changed. The table next to us had a better waiter but complained very clearly about their food. Won't go back! Has so MUCH potential but definitely missing the mark on many issues. read more

Our first meal was Mother's Day Brunch. The food was amazing that day! We were welcomed by the owner, Tina and other friendly staff. They asked if it was ok to sit in the bar which I was grateful for as I can be picky about these things. There are three types of seating here: outside overlooking the ocean, dining room with ocean view or bar area. Our server, Geri was kind, prompt and knowledgeable about the menu. She made recommendations about specials and deserts. The whole meal was delicious! We had the special appetizer of fried mozzarella and Corned Beef Egg rolls. My husband ordered steak tips and I the filet. So much flavor in both meals. Dessert was a donut bread pudding. Wow!! I can't recommend this place enough.
