The Grill is on the corner of Orangethorpe and State College Blvd, it looks like one of those old school burger joints and it really is BUT at the same time it really is not. First thing you'll notice is that this place is loved -meaning who-so-ever owns this place loves it. This "burger joint" is less of a joint and more restaurant-ish. The staff were friendly and to my surprise, the place was climate controlled and extremely well kept and CLEAN (this is what I mean by loved) -was going to have my order to go, but then it was so nice inside that I decided to stay and eat my lunch here. Two flat screen TV's, clean counters, open kitchen and an extensive menu. I came in for a burger but ended up ordering the nachos instead. My carne asada meat was semi-cold and my chips were semi-stale but other than that, it was okay. I'll be back to try their burgers. Decent little salsa bar with pickles, peppers, pico de gallo and two types of slasa helped to enhance the flavors of my food. Sooo I was disappointed. The food looks more appealing than it actually tastes. The establishment itself is mellow and comfy. The service was just fine but just nothin that great. It was pricey but portions are big. Not impressed but I'm willing to go back and give it a second try. Specific food critiques : The Grill Burger: standard fixings with bacon, thousand island dressing, and generous amount of avocado, cheese with an extra charge and it was a little dry. The Gyro Dinner: so I first noticed huge portions of meat ( not cooked on a rotisserie, most likely frozen like most fast food joints), salad had feta, cucumbers, tomato, and olives. The "dressing" that accompanied the salad wasn't quite a dressing, just olive oil with dry spices settled at the bottom. Their Taziki sauce (Greek cucumber yogurt) was pretty good. But the big thing that threw me off a lot was the rice that came with the meal was Mexican rice (-__-) (/)___-) I couldn't get pass the carrots, peas, and just overall Mexican rice flavor with my Greek food. So a group of us are going to lunch with a vendor from out of town when the vendor says "I want fish tacos" as we get into the car. WTH, you can;t just throw that out there except I have my phone and I pull up my Yelp and sure enough it pulls up a couple of options including The Grill. Thank you my fellow Yelpers! You came through in a big way. This is your typical fast food "Greek" place that we find here in So Cal but they do a bang up job. Our host got his fish tacos and was very happy while I got the gyro sandwich. BTW, everyone can type it but no one can pronounce it right. So is it [ge ro], [ye ro] i have even heard it as [Ji ro]. I have always known it as they [ye ro] sound with the long vowels [sorry for the 4th grade English class]] Another coworkers got the taco plate and it was huge with 3 tacos, rice and beans and a small salad on the plate. The fish taco my friend got was huge as was the chicken cesar salad. And all this a very affordable prices. This place is all booths and we barely fit our 5 guys in the corner booth. Wow, this place is worth it. It's clean, the waitresses are super nice, and the food portions are humungo for what you pay. I got the Bacon Avocado cheeseburger (with swiss cheese) for a little over $5. I could eat this thing in about 3 sittings. It was hefty. The fried zucchini wasn't super-fried to death, but it wasn't soggy either. It was lightly sprinkled with parmesan cheese and not over-salted. They had thick and creamy ranch dressing on the side that was perfect for dipping and adding some flavor (read:calories). Someone stated something about the food being bland. You could always add salt. I prefer to have my food not too salty. You can always add salt, you can't subtract it. My boyfriend had the machaca plate that came with beans and rice. The machaca was alright. The meat could have been a bit more tender as I thought it was a little chewy. The beans and rice were standard, but tasted fresh (if that's possible ha!). I was a bit disappointed with their salsa. It was neither tasty nor spicy to me. I'd like to come back here and try some of their breakfast items. This place is so yummy. We had the Street Dog AKA: Bacon wrapped hot dog and their cheeseburger onion rings. Everything was equally to die for. The service is also outstanding, the price is crazy inexpensive and the place is clean. Sounds like a five stars to me. The girls has outstanding attention to details in taking your special orders. Everything comes out perfectly, just like the way you ordered it. I literally use to come here once a Week, not sure what took me so long to finally write this review for them. Just A-OK for lunch on the go. Lady at the register was friendly! I ordered chili cheese fries and a side of fried zucchini, both for about $8. I'm sure I ordered a small side of zucchini fries, but either they hooked me up or they give large portions because it was a large side! I wasn't a fan of their batter, its not crispy, more on the stale side. However, on a better note, it wasn't greasy either, so there are definitely some ups and downs. Their chili cheese fries, I am not a fan of, the first few bites were okay, then really started to taste the super soggy fries, grease soaked from all the oils and grease from the cheese. Randomly stumbled upon this place on yelp after reading that they have $1 fish taco Tuesdays, which is, honestly, one of the only places in the area that still does it. Lots of food at reasonable prices. You can order online, pay with a credit card and pick the time you want your food ready for pick-up. The staff are friendly and nice and will do anything to accommodate your order. The burgers are huge. (I recently ordered a burger at Carls Jr, Wendy's etc., and the $7 burger was like a kid's size). Not at this place. Lower prices and huge portions. If you order a side like zucchini sticks or chili fries, they will feed two or three people. Same side at above mentioned chains and you get maybe 10 pieces and you feel ripped off. Stick with local family owned businesses my friends, you will support your community and not some CEO's yacht. I'm frankly surprised this place doesn't have a better review average! I've been coming to this restaurant for about 5 years now, and haven't been disappointed. One of my favorites, the fish and fries plate, is always a generous portion. I do question the addition of the flatbread with the plate, but I suppose some people like the side. The burgers are always fresh and tasty, and fries are always crispy and hot. Their menu is quite large and I've probably only had 60% of the items, but everything I've had has been great! My daughter and i walked in at 919pm and were told we couldnt eat there by kailee the cashier and we would have to take our food togo , even though the restaurant had people sitting in it eating and the posted hours on the door said they closed at 10pm .
