Friendliest staff and great Cobb salad, it's not easy to find salads and veggies in Lone Pine so this is a great find!

I wanted to share my thoughts on the service I received here. June 29th: I came with my dog when it was 105°F outside. The service was exceptional. A lady, whose name I don't know, brought water for my dog and made sure we had a great experience. Thank you for that wonderful service. July 1st: I returned after a two-day backpacking trip with my dog. When I was seated, the server named Billy approached and rudely informed me that dogs were not allowed. I mentioned that I had visited two days earlier with my dog without any issues. He walked away, but later returned, welcomed other guests, and then came back to me, sharing a story about his 17-year-old dog. Despite the awkward start, the food was as good as usual. July 22nd:After another backpacking trip, I visited again. The place was busy due to the high season. I found a seat and waited about 10 minutes for a menu. When Billy brought the menu he told me again about no dog I mentioned that I was here with the dog 3 weeks ago, he didn't have any response for that. I asked to order immediately as I knew what I wanted. He responded with attitude, telling me to wait a minute. After waiting for seven minutes, I decided to stand in line at the register to save servers time. Despite people who arrived after me already getting their food, I asked Billy if I could quickly order two items. His response was rude, stating there were four people ahead of me. This experience with Billy was quite disappointing. Not sure if I go back. Food is good, but with I have better service. read more

Yelp has given Bobby a lot of love, and he totally deserves it. I feel they need to call the place Bobby's Grill. We were taking a road trip up the 395 this past weekend (destination Manzanar, with many stops along the way). Lone Pine seemed to be really the only place to get a solid meal anywhere between like, Lancaster and Bishop. And The Grill hit the spot. Bobby greeted us as we walked thru the door, and told us to sit anywhere. We got the patty melt (one each - my partner got the veggie patty, which she said was very tasty), with onion rings and fries. And the strawberry rhubarb pie a la mode. While there could be a pinch more salt in the patty and the onion rings, everything hit the spot. And the bread on the patty melt was like, perfectly toasted. The pie was so so comforting. Perfectly warm and not too sweet. This place is no frills, solid food, out of this world service (Bobby saw that I was dipping my onion rings into ketchup and mustard, and when I asked for a box, he also brought a small container "for your ketchup and mustard". So incredibly thoughtful. Will definitely come back next time we're in town! read more

A friend recommended this place and once we pulled up we realized we had eaten here years ago. Just stopping through on our way to LA this time. Breakfast, in my opinion, is hard to screw up. So this one was pretty good for what it was. Corned beef hash and potatoes and a sausage and cheese breakfast sandwich. For the price we thought there would be a little more corned beef. But everything tasted fine. We were the only patrons at 9:30 in the morning so service was great. Our server came and refilled our drinks without asking. That was nice. The place is small and quaint and cute. When it's not raining/snowing you can sit and look out the windows at the beautiful mountain range. read more

We enjoy this restaurant on our way to Southern CA for Christmas, it was charming and the potato salad was good, the chicken sandwich was nicely seasoned, sauce was yummy. Right next to the Dow Villa Motel where we stayed the day before Christmas Eve, it's a historical landmark where the western movie stars use to stay. Perfect location! read more

Prior to our camping trip, I found this place as one of the top places to visit in the area so we stopped by for lunch. We came on Thursday and it wasn't too busy but we had to wait a bit to get seated. Indoor and outdoor seatings are available but dogs are only allowed outdoors unless you have a service animal. We ordered a tuna melt with onion rings and a patty melt with regular fries. Our order took over 30 minutes to come and it wasn't even busy. I enjoyed my patty melt but the portion was pretty small. The fries were crispy and good tho! My fiancé got the tuna melt and he thought it was just okay, nothing special about it. Service was terrible. We had asked for water, napkins, straws, etc and I had to literally walk to the front to ask for them after waiting at least 10-15 minutes every single time. Overall, food is just okay. Not worth $35. Service could do so much better. read more

A great spot to dine in Lone Pine! We came for lunch after spending some time in Alabama Hills. Situated on the main street of town, it's cozy, casual restaurant serving classic American diner fare, perfect for a quick stop on your drive along the 395. Turkey Melt 5/5: I generally don't have high expectations for sandwiches, but the turkey melt blew me away. It's the perfect combination of flavors of turkey, avocado, bacon and cheese. But the chipotle mayo was amazing, the standout for sure. The side of fries that was included were delicious as well. Chicken Avocado Pita 3/5 This was pretty average, nothing really too great but not bad either. Chicken was a little dry, and they do not have gravy to go with the side of mashed potatoes. Service was wonderful and very attentive, and there's a parking lot on the side. It's a tad pricey, but worth it for the god food. read more

The last time I was there, I ordered a ham and cheese on them and the ham tasted rancid, like it was really old. I had to server, take it away, but said I will eat the hash browns because i'm hungry. The server came back and said, we're only going to charge you for an order of hash browns. I live in that town and I will never eat at that restaurant again read more

The food was surprisingly really delicious. Burgers were cooked perfectly and they have a ton of burger choices. Decent wine options. We had creme brûlée and my kids split an ice cream sandwich. Now what took this place from a 4 to 5 star place is the service. Bobby checked on us often and was fantastic with our kids. We always stop in Lone Pines on our way to Mammoth. Atmosphere: The Grill isn't a big metallic diner but has a more casual mountain town vibe. There are about ten seats inside and another five out. You won't din any booths and they are all wooden tables. You can see the kitchen staff working, and there is a small bakery at the front. If you are looking for a mom-and-pop vibe diner, it's a great option. It's located right on the main strip of Lone Pine, so it's hard to miss if you're driving through. The one thing that does interest me about The Grill in Lone Pine is they don't open until 9 am. It seems like the place that would open around 7.  Food: The Grill menu has all you could want in a diner. There were so many options that looked good that I was between. A few items on The Grill menu that caught my eye are: Smoked Salmon Benedict: Two poached eggs on an English muffin with hollandaise sauce. Turkey Pita: Hummus spread, turkey, jack cheese, avocado, sun-dried tomatoes, and greens Half Rack of BBQ Ribs served with mixed veggies. I decided on the half rack of ribs. Before our order, she mentioned the soup of the day was split pea soup. I can never say no because split pea and lentil are probably my favorite soups. The split pea was tasty. It wasn't as thick as other split pea soups but still good. I liked it and I would order it again. The BBQ ribs were good. They were about what I expected to find for diner ribs. They weren't falling off the bone, but they still tasted good. There was enough BBQ sauce, but not as much as I've experienced at other places. The veggies tasted great and might have been my favorite part of the meal. Service: Our waitress was great, in fact, one of the best waitresses we've had at a diner. I have no complaints. She made the experience at The Grill in Lone Pine wonderful. You could tell the staff all got along and you could see them chatting and helping each other out. Cost: For my ribs and split pea soup, it was $30. Not terrible, considering the amount of food I got. Conclusion: If you are looking for an excellent spot to stop, the Grill is a perfect option. It would be great fuel for climbing Mt. Whitney or heading up to Mammoth. We will definitely be back next time. read more

The customer service was incredibly bad. I went in with a group of ten, 8 being teenagers who are very well behaved, right off the bat they were rude. We went inside and the man started to walk away from us rudely and was already fed up with us. The women waitress complained about our tip, and quite frankly we tipped to what we thought was fitting for the service. The food was mid. The kids menu is labeled with "The Grills Mac n Cheese" so we ordered it expecting a homemade restaurants mac n cheese, it was Kraft. That was misleading and unnecessary. Read the good reviews and decided to try. Not good experience. Table is rocking... food was ok. Maybe it's good for health conscious person. Less salt, lean meat, smaller portions. Over priced for what you get. Dessert... skip it. Don't Waste your money... crème brûlée was tough, chewy, almost like gum... Nothing like crackly sugar on top or creamy custard that we expected. the bad... and the good... fish and chips severely disappointing - all batter no fish... and not house made - like bulk store frozen stuff... fries a disappointment too - limp... scampi Italienne very good - large portion - doesn't come with bread (none of the pasta dishes do anymore - too much went to waste per owner/manager bobby (apologize if i got name wrong) ) but will make it (toasted, garlic) on request - very fresh salad (not iceburg lettuce) with halved cherry tomatoes, cucs, croutons - balsamic vinegar dressing... bobby super cool, friendly guy - as was staff - been there twice now on our bi-annual trip to LA and we'll be back next trip - if open (see below) ... This is a cute little restaurant the waitress was very friendly and welcomed us as soon as we walked in. She said the owner has owned this restaurant for like 5 years. The hamburgers are freshly made to order we had a avocado burgers they actually out a whole half a avocado in the burger the burger had a fresh bun and tasted great it comes with fries but I asked for fruit. We also had a patty melt which was good and came with. Side salad homemade blue cheese dressing that was the bomb. The place was very clean. 8 seen some homemade pies in the window I am sure they were good but we didn't try them. read more

We went in around 5:00 hoping to beat the rush. It was pretty empty when we went in with only a couple of other customers eating. Our server appeared to be the only server and kept walking away from us while we were trying to order, going to deliver someone else's food or run their payment. We had two small kids with us so when she asked what sides we wanted and we hesitated for even a second, she took off. One of the times I heard her mumble while she left that she hated customers who weren't ready to order. I almost got up and walked out. Too bad there aren't many places to eat in this tiny town. We stayed, the food was only okay, and the rest of the experience was normal. I won't be returning after this terrible customer service experience. read more

Grabbed dinner late Friday night once we arrived from our travels. They seated us right away and the staff were all very friendly! We ordered the patty melt and the grill burger with onion rings and fries to share. The patties on both were not very flavorful and slightly overcooked, as we asked for medium, but they were still cooked ok. The toppings on both were good. Wish the patty melt had had a thousand island dressing. The onion rings and fries were also perfect, fresh, hot and very crispy. Returned a day later to grab a root beer float for dessert. In a town with not many food options, this was our favorite. The service was very nice, but not the fastest. My husband ordered a patty melt with onion rings (+2$) and I had a chicken gyro. The melt was good, but he wished there was more meat in it. My gyro was fresh and enjoyable. Best part was the homemade cheesecake with berries ( these were frozen ) Definitely give this place a try! read more

I was in town for a few days because of the John Wayne Grit series. We decided to give this place a try because of the good Yelp reviews. Our waitress was great, but the food was not the best. I ordered the half-chicken grilled barbecue with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The mashed potatoes tasted like they had half a pound of butter. The vegetables were extremely overcooked, and the chicken breast was dry. I felt like I was choking. For the record, the chicken did not taste to be grilled. The chicken seemed to be boiled with brushed BBQ sauce on it. My son had spaghetti Bolognese, and the sauce was extremely watery. I have no intention of coming back to this restaurant. read more

For the it's a good spot. Service was friendly and attentive. The steak was cooked slightly more than what was asked. We asked for medium rare and it was cooked medium. The mashed potatoes accompanying the steak was freshly made. The salad was a hearty portion and mostly fresh, with a few browned edge that is pieces. We came here on Sunday for the first time and will definitely be back. The service was great and staff were super friendly. All three of us enjoyed our meals and my son's fries were super crispy. I got the pesto pasta dish and it was delicious and definitely a large portion. I shared with my husband and still had enough to fill a to go box which I enjoyed for lunch the next day. The food was good, not great, which is ok, given that it is in a small town. The vegan patty not recommended ($20bucks, s-m size portion, not lunch heavy).
