Location, location, location! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The views from the outside deck are great and it's definitely the place to dine when the weather permits.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Kind of surprised by the low score for this place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I went for dinner when I was passing through town and thought the outdoor vibe was good[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], no complaints on the food, and staff was friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A good spot for dinner at sunset.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Came during Newports Restaurant week, they had an amazing deal going on. A 3 course dinner for just $45. Wine bottles at half price. What a steal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is absolutely gorgeous. The perfect setting for a romantic night out or a casual get together with the gals.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Order a drink at the bar and enjoy it by the fireplace.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Only thing negative I have to say is that I wish they didn't run out of the one option I had originally ordered from the pre fix menu but the harvest risotto I got in its place was rich, creamy and full of flavor. Definitely would come back

Really really good food, idk why the ratings are low here it was genuinely a great experience

    Yacht a view!

Yacht a view! This is a beautiful lunch spot located on the water in Newport, RI. We feasted on classic lobster rolls, perfectly crispy fries and mildly sweet coleslaw (see photo). Yuuummmm! We walked from our hotel as parking is very limited. I made a reservation online a couple of weeks in advance. We arrived 30 minutes early and the kind, agreeable hostess graciously let us pick our table. We chose a shaded one near the water with beautiful views of yachts and sailboats (see photo). The service was friendly enough and our lunch was served promptly - thank goodness as we were hungry. Cheers!

Very good spot for dinner near the waterfront in Newport. We had three courses of food. The salad was great as was the smoked salmon appetizer. The Rack of Lamb and NY Strip were so good we forgot to take photos of them. Deserts were excellent, especially the Creme Brûlée.

The views are amazing, but dinner was underwhelming. Due to a private event, we were seated on the back patio where they had all the tent sides up even though it was low 40s. When we asked the waitstaff to light the heaters it seemed like a huge inconvenience to them. In fact, serving us at all seemed like an inconvenience and we barely saw our waiter. We shared waitstaff and a bar with the private event meaning that restaurant patrons were waiting 30-40 minutes for drinks. Really unorganized and unprofessional. The food was overpriced, cold, and small. The pictures don't do it justice but the portion sizes were laughable for the price of the meal. We waited so long for our food and for it to come out freezing cold was unacceptable. Too bad our waiter never came back for us to send it back. We will not be back. I wouldn't recommend this place for anything other than a drink with a pretty view.

Went here for dinner and I got some Oysters, Scotch Meatballs, Mother Sourdough Crostini, and the Garganelli. Everything was amazing! For dessert I got the Olive Oil Cake- this was the show stopper! The restaurant was packed, and since we didn't have a reservation, we ended up sitting in the bar area. Honestly, that wasn't a bad thing--the views of the sunset and the wharf were beautiful. The drinks came out quickly, although my cocktail had way too much citrus. The oysters arrived next, and they were fresh and delicious, so we were all feeling pretty good about the meal and looking forward to our entrées. Unfortunately, that's where things went downhill. We waited an entire hour for our entrées to arrive, and the waitstaff wasn't very forthcoming with updates. We had to track someone down anytime we had a question or needed something, which became very frustrating. Once the food finally arrived, it was disappointing. Several of the dishes were extremely salty. I ordered the swordfish, which was slightly overcooked, and the vegetables were overwhelmingly acidic, as if an entire bottle of vinegar had been poured over them. They were also topped with a generous amount of capers, making the dish even saltier. Overall, it just wasn't enjoyable. I mentioned my concerns to our waitress, but unfortunately, she didn't seem particularly concerned. Hopefully, she passed the feedback along to the chef so some adjustments can be made. The beautiful waterfront setting and fresh oysters were definitely highlights which gained a star here but unfortunately, the long wait, lack of communication, and disappointing entrées overshadowed the experience.

I don't like hearing what others discuss; nor do I want them listening to us either. It was that kind of close. However, the food was quite good. One of the highlights was their Heirloom Tomato Gazpacho Soup, made with Heirloom Tomatoes, Cucumber, Green Peppers, Red Wine Vinegar, Red Onion, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It was served pureed. I probably would have liked some of the cucumber and green pepper tossed in the soup finely diced just for a little crunch, but the soup tasted fine, and we always love when gazpacho is offered, which is rarely. We also tried the Pulpo a la Plancha, which was charred octopus over a bed of corn, red pepper and a few other items (that I now don't recall.) The octopus was good... I've had better elsewhere, but this was still good. Not seasoned all that much, and perhaps, a bit too charred, but we made it work. The star of the evening were the scallops. We actually split the entree, and with a side addition of broccolini, it actually was enough food for us, since we both had the gazpacho and octopus as appetizers. Amazing how growing older has diminished our appetites... but we figured that since we're on a road trip, it's not like doggy bags for leftovers will work out, so we didn't want to waste any food and just ordered the one entree. There were five good size scallops (already a bonus cuz most restaurants only give THREE, and they gave FIVE at Flora). It came with Corn Puree, Roasted Corn pieces, Tomato Gazpacho, Truffle Dust, and Sweet Potato Crisps. The scallops were succulent, flavorful, and meaty. Absolutely delicious... and the accompanying corn and tomato flavors added even more flavor. We would've licked the plate if we could. Lastly, the sangria was sweet and refreshing. I would definitely return here if we ever get back to Newport.

Flora is now my new Favorite restaurant in Newport!…read more As a May baby I take my restaurant reservations very seriously. So when we made plans to spend the day in Newport, I had some time to book the perfect restaurant. Also, a few choices came to mind, but then I found Flora. Flora is fairly new to Newport. A Mediterranean hot spot with gorgeous views in the beautiful Gardiner House, which used to be a vacant lot. The good - Parking can be difficult around here since its down a side street off Thames. They do Valet for $25 which I thought was a bit steep. So, we eventually found metered street parking. Upon walking to the restaurant we were greeted by a very friendly attendant. He showed us the way to the restaurant which was up a few flights of staircases. The great - Once inside Flora we were greeted by a very nice Hostess. She brought us to our table which was overlooking the ocean. The ambiance is stunning! Our server came over and we ordered a bottle of water and some drinks. Then, we also ordered one of their popular appetizers called Jamon Con Tomate - delish! Then, we ordered their beet salad which was also good. For entrees, I went with their Black Bass (something new that I have never heard of before). My husband had their Veal Scallopini, also excellent. They brought over 2 different desserts for my birthday, one with a candle of course. In summary - Everything about this restaurant was spectacular. And, I want to note that even though some of the other reviews were not as good, don't let that deter you from dining here. I highly recommend checking out Flora the next time you are here. Plus, they have a gorgeous patio for those hot summer days in Newport. Nothing beats a warm day, and ocean views. Cheers~
