Went here for the first time today for Brunch with a few friends. We were seated right away in a booth inside the restaurant. I went with the Rosie's special (two eggs, short stack-$1 extra, home fries and bacon) with a water and it came to just under $9 for me. Service was prompt and friendly but I wasn't blown away by the food (in fact my eggs were a bit runny for my taste) or the restaurant itself (pretty loud). For brunch this fit the bill. I had an omelet the other day which was just okay. The food wasn't that memorable, but the service was quick and friendly. Not being from here I was intrigued by the daily specials though. The Grill is one of my favorite restaurants, and I always suggest it when people want to grab brunch or drinks somewhere fun and affordable, but tasty! I love the location, including the bar area, enclosed patio and outside seating (which looks to have recently been renovated). However, I recently went for lunch with a friend and our young children, and must say I never realized before how unprepared The Grill is for diners with toddlers and babies. Now, I know it's not advertised as a family restaurant, (although there is a kid's menu); and having been a server myself in the past, I know that not every restaurant wants children there all the time, but I was disappointed due to the following issues: 1. My son is in a stroller, and there wasn't any access to get it in easily through the front entrance. I carried the stroller up the front stairs. I'm not sure if the back door has a ramp, as I didn't go that way, and am not even sure if that's open for patrons as it was when the location was Freckles. I think there must be another way in, because to be ADA compliant, there should be a wheelchair ramp somewhere. 2. There is no changing table in either bathroom. Nor is there a counter large enough in either bathroom to change a diaper. Luckily I had a large padded changing pad in my diaper bag, that I put down on a blanket in the bathroom floor, but it felt unsanitary and was inconvenient. 3. The friend I was with ordered a kid's pizza for her son, and we both ordered fairly easy menu items, and it took over 45 minutes for us to get our food. We were in well before the lunch rush, and there were only a handful of other tables there. When the kid's pizza came out, it was burnt. I will say the server we had was FANTASTIC and attentive and I know it wasn't her fault that it took so long and that the food was burnt (in fact, she already another one being prepared and was very apologetic), but it was hard having to entertain a hungry toddler who was well past his lunch time with nothing to eat. Overall, The Grill is still a favorite haunt of mine, and I will continue to go and to recommend it to people. The staff is always very friendly and helpful with menu recommendations, and the food typically comes out quickly and is of good quality. However, I wouldn't recommend it for people with very young children and don't plan to go again with my son- it will have to be a fun date night or girls' brunch and mimosas spot from now on! read more

Great staff, they are very welcoming and prompt when seating and serving. The food is really tasty and creative; I am impressed because I was expecting the usual bar-type food, but it seems pretty gourmet to me! Most of the bartenders are great, and the serving staff is superb. Definitely check out trivia night on Tuesdays, it's a hoot and you can also win prizes/gift cards! All in all, the Grill is my new Go-To restaurant when going out with friends or family. read more

This is a decent neighborhood joint, and I'm glad to see them there since they're about 1,000 times better than the place they replaced (Freckles). They're moderately priced and have a fairly wide-ranging menu. I've been there three times, and have had both the burgers and also the stuffed chicken breasts. Go with the entrees -- they are quite good. The burgers or sandwiches are decent, but not stand-outs. This place does have an ABC license, but when I was there the beer selection was pretty narrow, and bottles only. This place is very new though, and that may change with time. The service was prompt and friendly, even with a 2-year old in tow. So if you're looking to get in and out fairly quickly, this place is an option. read more

We go here too much because it just around the corner. We usually go for dinner as a family and we are always happy. The food is okay---nothing great, but good. Late night always entertained with the live music. Danielle and Hannah are AWESOME when it comes to customer service. Whether they are waiting tables or working behind the bar they are great. Overall, the great customer service keeps us coming back. When we bring our 4 year old the staff are always accomodating and Michael Joseph the owner/manager is always positive. read more

I just ate here for lunch for the first time and it was near perfection. I sat out in the sun room area, which with the windows open, with a cool breeze coming through and a laid back vibe, made me feel like I was at the beach, I started with the fried brie wedges appetizer, and it was awesome! Not only the the melted bried have a great texture, but they served it with this fresh warm cranberry sauce to dip it in. The cranberry sauce was some of the best I've ever had. I loved it so much that I suggested to the girl that they should be putting that on their sandwiches. I ordered the California burger for my meal. I wasn't disappointed, a good size patty, cooked well, and the egg on it was over easy so that there was just enough runniness to provide that rich flavor supplement to the taste of the meat. The waitress was on the ball and checked on me several times to make sure I was tended to. I will definitely be going back. read more

THE best happy hour raw bar you'll see in Richmond - and yes over the fan deals, too. You can get steamed and spiced shrimp for just $6 a half pound and $10 for a whole. The oysters are available raw or steamed, big and fresh, and are $5 and $8 for half and full dozen. That's EVERYDAY - with drink specials. The employees both in the kitchen, on the floor, and behind the bar WORK HARD. They do their best to accommodate your experience, and do so pleasantly. I've personally seen them be treated disrespectfully by customers and respond politely and eager to fix any problems. read more

As a relative newcomer to Richmond, I have been in search of a great burger. I tried all the usual spots based on recommendations from online reviews -- one more disappointing than the next. The concept of "cooked to temp" appeared to be foreign to even the most highly recommended. This evening on a whim I tried The Grill on Patterson Ave. What a delightful surprise! The burger was full of flavor and perfectly cooked to medium as requested. The onion rings that came on the side were freshly cut and arrived hot and crispy. Our server couldn't have been more pleasant and accommodating. At last my search is over. I have found the best burger in Richmond -- The Grill fills the bill! read more
