Love this quaint coffee shop and the coffee they use is amazing too. All the little things that they sell are great, always try to get something that no one else can buy for my mother in law. This cafe is such a refreshing diversion from the monotony of the surrounding strip malls with the large chain, cookie cutter, stores e.g. Staples, Target, McDonalds, Chipotle, etc... Seating: Cozy armchairs around little round tables. Small two person tables along a wall full of outlets (thank you!) Service: Very friendly and upbeat baristas. Drinks: They look good, many happy customers. But I'm a tea drinker, and mine was just fine and so was my cream cheese bagel. What's missing: I didn't see much concern with environmental issues. I'm not expecting compost bins, tree planting programs, or solar panels, but a little environmental sensitivity can go a long way. How about offering reusable cups to customers? And how many napkins does one need for a bagel? I got six and only used one. Oh well, I'm afraid the day will come when all businesses will be mandated to follow environmental guidelines. But if we all do our part that day may come with a small transition rather than a last ditch effort to preserve the land we love for the children that we will have... read more

I love this place! It has a nice, cozy atmosphere and the people there are very friendly and helpful. This is our go to place for my husband and I to have our coffee dates. My favorite drink is their chai latte, and my husband always gets their peach green tea smoothie. Both are very tasty! The Grind is a local business however modeled from Starbucks. I find coffee houses like this sterile and not as progressive as compared to other coffee houses around the country. All that said, The Grind is the best coffee house in the High Desert cities of Hesperia, Apple Valley and Victorville. Prices are decent, not too expensive COFFEE! My rating is based on their drinks. Over the last couple of years, I've tried everything from their Seattle Freeze, espresso and even bought a bag of coffee beans. While their more sugary drinks are forgiving in regards to the flavor of espresso, the more classic drinks are not. The espresso had little crema and tasted particularly more acidic than necessary. The baristas are inconsistent with their milk temps. Instead of attempting to have them make me a drink, I purchased a bag of coffee to brew at home. Using a macchinetta, French Press, Pour-over (drip) and even a Chemex, I did not have good results. The only drink that I could say is "good" is the Seattle Freeze (as everyone raves about), but those sugary frozen drinks aren't my ... cup of joe. read more

Absolutely love this coffee shop! We go as often as we can. Great coffee, yummy baked goods. And don't even get me started on The Freeze! First place my grandkids want to go when they visit. Also beautiful deco and jewelry along with mugs, teapots and lots of wonderful surprise merchandise. And of course there's Nora and Herb! I think I found my new favorite coffee house. Besides, the fact that it's the rare non-Starbucks cafe in town and it's not part of the It's A Grind chain makes me a happy camper. It's cozy and the staff is friendly. The prices are standard. I miss the days of reasonably priced coffee. Free wi-fi with purchase and a good ratio of small solo-sized tables near outlets and larger tables to foster conversation. The blended Aztec Mocha is why I come so often. Two of my best friends are now addicted to it too. This coffee has a wonderful spicy chocolate flavor. If you're hungry they make an awesome grilled mozzarella on Rosemary bread. Their green tea smoothies are also fantastic. Today I'm actually having a plain ice green tea. It's so refreshing. Cute little place with a nice atmosphere. I've probably been here 20 times over the years, with my most recent visits on 5/9/21 and 5/10/21, and they're always nice so I figured I'd finally leave a review. None of the bakery goodies in the case are vegan or safe for dairy-sensitives, but The Grind has several alternative (non-dairy) milks for drinks. The chai with oat milk is really tasty if you ask for extra spices on top, but it upset my stomach a little so I'm wondering if the chai itself has cow milk in it. I didn't check before ordering it, so that's on me. They have lots of other interesting drink options, always something new to try next time I visit the high desert. read more

The reason for the low stars is for their high prices. Their coffee is better than starbucks, but the only reason I go is because they serve the infamous "seattle freeze" there. We are visiting Apple Valley for New Years and needed our caffeine fix. Even though my wife has a loaded gift card for Starbucks, I wanted to go somewhere that doesn't serve coffee from old coffee beans. I decided on the Turtle Mocha with Aztec spice. My wife ordered a Coconut latte. My Turtle Mocha was so so good! The Aztec spice, leaves a subtle heat in the back of the throat. It was amazing! My wife enjoyed her Coconut latte, but she wanted a little more coconut syrup, which they happily accommodated. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We would've never received this quality of service or coffee at Starbucks. read more

Not sure where to start. You talk us into a mobile app with mobile order only to say we have to wait in line to pick up. The cashier, and I believe owner, is the slowest retail cashier I've ever seen. Had to wait 30 minutes in line for a mobile order. Wish I could have cancelled the order. I've become somewhat of a regular here as it's a great place to beat the heat while chatting with a loved one or just to use as a quiet place to read or surf the web. A really cozy and comfortable ambiance, The Grind wins as the best mom & pop coffee house in the area. The one thing that keeps me from giving it more stars, however, is that they serve brewed coffee from thermoses (more like self-serve, actually) and the coffee isn't all that great. I strongly suspect that all of the ratings people are giving them for good coffee are referring to blended coffee drinks (lattes, cappuccinos, etc.) and not regular, black, brewed coffee. In truth, real coffee lovers might find themselves a bit disappointed here. While I visit The Grind often, I still prefer Starbucks coffee (which is right across the street) and visit them more often because of this (Sorry, guys). The real stars of The Grind truly are their staff, though! After visiting a few times, they know your name and make it a point to greet you and make you feel at home. Newcomers will also find that the staff is readily available to make recommendations and answer questions, as well as take your order and hand-deliver your drink to you. Really, The Grind can win any coffeehouse war on service, alone-- easily. Besides coffee or an occasional lemonade or iced tea (both of latter are quite good here, btw), I've never tried their blended drinks. I hear that the Seattle Freeze is everything and I know that the other blended drinks that I see people ordering look delicious. But calorie-counters like myself should be aware that they look like the kinds of treats we avoid...which is why I haven't tried one...yet. When The Grind makes the effort to serve a good cup of brewed coffee (that's not self-served from a thermos) I'll be happy to return with that fifth star, but until then I have to stick with four. C'mon, guys, you're a coffee house, for goodness sake! I would have given this place a 5 star had I reviewed them when I first started coming. Unfortunately the quality has gone down. My husband and I would order the Bavarian Cherry frozen drink every visit. The workers have changed numerous times and it seems the drink keeps changing and changing. I felt like something sweet, so I dropped in to The Grind for the first time this evening and it definitely won't be my last! I got a 24oz Freeze and it's fantastic, waaay better than a Frappuccino especially since fraps hurt my teeth due to the small pieces of ice. The coffee has really good flavor and combined with the ice cream makes it a delicious drink! The atmosphere was awesome too, and I'm not just saying that because I'm friends with one of the baristas lol. The cashier who helped me, Taylor, was really nice and she definitely seems to enjoy her job. I would too working in such a neat little place... where do I apply? Lol. My first visit was great. The cashier was polite and helpful. The drink I ordered was the Freeze. The cashier suggested it to me. It was amazing. In comparison to Starbucks, The Grind makes Starbucks look like McDonald's. The vibe is cozy. The music is great and relaxing. Also u can tell the owners are Christians which I liked being a Christian also. Nevertheless, I also liked how they come to you to give you your order. But the second time I went I had subpar service namely from the cashier ending her shift. The only thing that saved the experience was the other employees great customer service. I love this coffee shop. I have moved from the area, but whenever I come to visit friends in Apple Valley I always have to visit The Grind . My favorite drink isn't even listed on the menu. It's called a "Heatwave"...it tastes just like the Seattle Freeze but without the ice cream...less calories & all the flavor..yummy... The Grind owners actually bought the recipie from Higher Ground, a coffee shop that went out of business a few years ago. I think the ingredients to the flavoring syrup for this drink are still a secret...because the creator is trying to get it patented. Thats the last news I heard on the syrup anyway. I wish i can give them Zero Stars. I gave this place 3 chances and the 3 times they completely gave me the wrong order. I asked for soy milk and they use regular milk instead. The the 3rd visit, the employee was rude and unprofessional. When I told her regarding the mistake they made, she remade my drink with an attitude, the drink was disgusting with no flavor.
