Just tried an iced americano from here today and loved the vibe of the cafe and the great service.

Coffee and food are great. It's a small coffee shop that has plenty of seating inside and out. The inside can get very loud when there is a group of women meeting in the corner and their children are sitting at another table loudly playing their video games. The service was slow despite having 5 employees behind the counter. There is a large patio with plenty of seating to enjoy. The patio was enjoyable until I started to choke on cigar smoke from the group of retired men (one was the owner so I guess this is his personal lounge for him and his friends) Ended my visit early because of this and went home smelling like cigars for the few minutes I was able to tolerate it. If you want to drink coffee outside, there's a Starbucks across the street. I'm all for supporting small businesses until they intentionally harm their customers who have respiratory issues. read more

This used to be our favorite breakfast place in Big Bear. Been going here for years even after the change of ownership. The new owner has cleaned the place up and done a nice job. Unfortunately, we have noticed recently that the recipes are changing and in our mind, not for the good. We have gone there a couple of times in the past couple of weeks and noticed this. Today, was our last time there. Service is great and the place is clean and you still get lots of food. You still get more than enough food that you can't finish, but our omelettes weren't good the first time, did't want to suffer through it a second time. We ended up going home to find something to eat. It is very unfortunate as this place has lots of potential. read more

Always love the ambience of this place no matter the location. The crowd is really cool too, as it is a mix and way smaller atmosphere than some other coffee shops. This location in particular also had a very great worker; she was kind to me and my 3 kids even though we were coming in as prob her last or close to last patrons. So appreciated I like the coffee too. It seems to be a little stronger than most other big name coffee shops. And to me, that is a bonus. Having to pay for added shots isn't needed here! Hooray! Expensive but good. Lots of locals go here rather than Starbucks across the street. They don't have a drive-through though. Lots of people were ordering their pastries and such. It was busy when we were there. The Freeze is amazing! Ice cream blended with espresso and Seattle's chocolate syrup. The blended drinks are great. read more

The Grind has been my go to coffee place in the High Desert for the past 4 or so years now! Sometimes just to get out of the house I will drive the 20 minutes from my house to go there! I've tried so many delicious drinks, but the iced coconut latte, Bavarian cherry, berry smoothie, and iced chai tea latte are my top favorites. I also love their selection of pastries and grilled cheeses but their almond bear claw is my favorite! Everyone that works there is amazing and so friendly, but my favorite regular faces to see are Jessica, Kayde, Debbie, Taylor, Bree, AJ, Levi, and Ricky! Customer service was terrible asked about order and got an eye roll, masks but being worn correctly customers walking in with no masks and not being told anything. Waited 36 minutes for two bagels. Drinks were super watered down and had to throw them away. read more

Came here with my brother for brunch, and it was really really tasty! The girl at the register was super nice and helped us out with customizing our order to our likings. They have reasonable prices & a great atmosphere I'll definitely continue to come back! read more

I'm not sure how their staff keeps so cheery with the line out the door, but my coffee is always served with a smile. I've been coming to this place on and off for many years. It is much different than Starbucks and has a nice cozy atmosphere inside. Their coffees are very quality and taste great. If you have a sweet tooth they have many different treats available, which I try to keep my distance from. LOL read more

I really want to love this place bc the atmosphere is so great but they're making it hard. I think it's more of a 3 star estab. at this point but I didn't want to be too harsh. They got me hooked on the chai tea the first 2 times I went in but oddly I now get a diff tasting chai tea every time even though I order the exact same thing lol. They seem short staffed but the workers have always been nice to me. I also think they should invest into a new/more efficient toaster bc the bagels are never really toasted no matter how many times they go through. A few positive little changes can go a long way for this place! I'll probably try it again in a couple months read more

This is my favorite coffee shop. It's a very relaxed atmosphere - big comfy chairs, and you can just sense a less frenetic vibe than you would get at the Starbucks across the street. It's more home-like. It would be easy to come in on a cold day and relax with a hot drink and a book. It's quieter than Starbucks, and therefore easier to carry on a conversation with a friend. Also, their music is a mix of feel-good songs from different decades. I'm always happy when I'm in there. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I love their wide variety of herbal tea choices. The loose-leaf lavender is my favorite. I'm also partial to their hot cocoa. It's sweeter than the Starbucks variety and is worth the calories! I haven't had their sandwiches, but their desserts are always good. Plus, the choice is different every time I go in. It's fun to look at the display case and pick something special. Be sure to ask for their loyalty card to earn free drinks. Once you've tried The Grind, the larger commercial establishments just don't compare. read more

This morning we took a friend out to Apple Vally. To beat the morning traffic we left early and arrived needing food and coffee. Their daughter recommended a local coffee house near. And what a great rec it was. Small, friendly and repleat with a great breakfast sandwich the best was still to come - really good coffee which tasted great BLACK. Not bitter like many shops. While we won't drive 150 miles just to revisit, we'll come any time we are in the neighborhood. Great food, great coffee, great service and really friendly staff and owner. read more

Long line for a Sunday, but that just means it's good. If you don't love sweet drinks, i would ask them to do 1/2 the sweetener. Even when I asked for 1/2, it was still pretty sweet. They have nice outdoor patio for use, especially nice during COVID. read more

We love coming to The Grind when we are out in Apple Valley. They have great drinks and really tasty breakfast sandwiches and pastries. My favorite is the signature grilled cheese on the rosemary bread - have them add tomato! All this being said... The thing that really brings us back is the atmosphere. The staff here seem. My only complaint is that sometimes the drinks are a bit sugary and not enough coffee for me; though that's my own personal preference. We absolutely love The Grind. We have always enjoy coming to starbucks but the last 3 years, it's really changed a lot! It's never consistent also which is frustrating. The Grind's coffee selection are amazing!!!! The atmosphere is definitely a plus since everyone's so nice and since my friends and I have been coming here more regularly we notice the regulars friendly faces. I absolutely look forward to my mornings at The Grind. Our favorite is hot heatwave with almond milk and mocha Aztec with almond milk. Their grilled cheese selection is so yummy and their pastries are such treats! We enjoy looking at all the trinkets they have for sale also. We absolutely recommend The Grind. The regular coffee is served from a thermos, so that's no bueno. Depending on time of day expect to wait over 15 minutes. My wife waited longer to get a simple cafe americano. That's seems a bit much. The cafe americano was drinkable but not memorable. Like many small coffee shops the atmosphere is tailored to locals but you are paying a premium. You are better off going to a local gas station and getting a cup of joe. read more
