Called for an estimate and Dennis (St. Charles, Illinois location ) was able to come to our home within a couple of days. He was very knowledgeable and kind. He provided us with an estimate that was a good price. He called us the following day and scheduled the work to be completed a few days later. The work was completed by his son, Mark. Like father, like son, he was also very knowledgeable and kind. He got to work immediately and worked constantly and stopped only if we interrupted him to ask questions. We had Grout Doctor come out for a shower leak. Dennis was prompt in coming out to diagnose the problem and schedule the repair time. The person actually doing the repair was late, but communicated well and did good work. However, during the repair, the man shattered one of our tempered glass shower shelves. He went to a store and had to order a custom one that he promised to come back and install in a couple of days. After weeks of promising "tomorrow", he never showed and blocked me. I called Dennis directly, and he promised to send the guy out twice.... and the man never showed. Then Dennis promised to come and repair it himself... and also never showed nor communicated. I have given this company every benefit of the doubt and they've constantly failed to uphold their own promises. At this point, I'm done. We will repair our own shelf, but I would absolutely NOT recommend Grout Doctor from St. Charles to anyone. read more

I wish there was a zero (or negative) star option! Run, don't walk, in another direction. They absolutely ruined our shower door. Whatever Mark used to clean the grout he used on the door as well. This stripped the protective coating that was on it from the manufacturer. The glass is water spotted and looks terrible all the time. Mark first admitted to this but then denied it. I talked to both Mark and his father Dennis. Mark was scheduled to come out and put some other protectant on the glass no less than 4 times but he never showed up. He never called to reschedule; just didn't show up. Mark's son was the one to come to the house to give us the estimate. Mark admitted that they send him because he's "the salesman". Yes, we got sold a bill of goods for sure. Cost almost $1,000 and we are left with a mess. read more

The repair from the son was far less quality than when Dennis did it 12 years ago. For $95 per hour, he arrived 4 hours late, said he thinks 4 hours or less for repair. Charged us for 7 hours work. Was here for 5 hours with three 20 minute breaks. I has to do the cleanup as grout was slopped onto the door tracks, chrome and shower wand. Just not a quality job. The grout work was OK, poor customer service, if your going to be late, call and explain. Will not use again. read more

This refers to the Grout Doctor based in Wasco, IL. We scheduled a bathroom tile grout & caulk repair for one day & a kitchen & bathroom floor grout clean & seal for another day. The owner's son did the work. He talked us into redoing the grout & adding sealer. He couldn't get it done completely in one day (only here a short time)--returned another day & said it was done (in a couple hours.) Dumped waste in toilet & left residue on floor. Not sure sealer was really applied. Total charge $790-check cashed same day as issued. Was supposed to finish caulk bead on floor on another day--not done. Did not call to confirm time for additional work. Kitchen floor grout cleaned by hand with a brush on hands & knees another day & looks better than it did but not great. Bathroom grout doesn't even look cleaned. Not sure sealer was even applied because he said we could walk on it right away. Done in a couple hours. Check for $645 cashed the same day. I usually don't write reviews but had to this time. I used The Grout Doctor (Dennis) 3x in the past 10 years. I recently called Dennis to have the same job done (grout re-seal in tub/shower) and he was going to charge me $395 (for a one-hour job). The last time (the same exact job), I paid The Grout Doctor $210, which I felt was reasonable. Now, he told me $395 is the current price, and the discounted price for a repeat customer! He didn't seem too concerned about getting my repeat business, as he smugly said "Feel free to contact others", which I did. I ultimately went with The Grout Medic who did a FANTASTIC JOB, and only charged $160 for the same exact job. The job was done with precision and attention to detail. read more

Had some grout and caulk repaired. It was done poorly the first time and they needed to return. Even after returning the caulk lines are not smooth and very choppy, especially in the corners of our shower. It's impossible to clean and we are developing mold now - our bathroom is well ventilated and cleaned regularly but the water is pooling in the caulk crevices due to unevenness. We were even up sold for some sealant for our tile and grout, those are also developing mold as well which tells me water is seeping in somewhere, even though we were advised it a magical product and water will just glide right off. They caulked over mold and dirt and did a sloppy grout job. He told me his guy had a bad day. I wanted my money back but he refused. Did not use the shower for months and because of COVID we have not solved this situation. We started to use the shower again and within six weeks the colored repair to the grout stated coming off on the walls and the floor to show the mold he was suppose to get rid of in the first place. If you notice he will not let you comment on Facebook. Do not let this rude man rip you off of $1000 like he did to me. AVOID THE GROUT DOCTOR OUT OF ST. CHARLES! I thought that a small family business would have integrity, but they don't. The family member who worked on our shower started on a Friday then came back on Saturday and finished. When we did the final inspection, I noticed one side of our toilet paper holder was pulled out of the drywall. They didn't say anything to us. I had to bring it up. He said he didn't know if it was like that when he got there but, for some reason, he tried to glue it back up. I assured him it was not like that. He took a picture and said he would show it to his grandfather. I waited into the next week for a call but heard nothing. I called multiple times and left multiple messages. I finally received a call back over a week later from Dennis who was unapologetic and rude. I asked if he had been told about the toilet paper holder. He said that he had been but was also told by his worker that the drywall behind the toilet paper holder had been repaired 5 or 6 times. That was news to us! We never said anything like that because that is not true. Dennis also informed us that the toilet paper holder was not installed properly into studs (relying on expert testimony from his worker who tried to glue it to the wall!). He said that since it was not installed properly, he wasn't going to pay hundreds of dollars to have my drywall repaired. If it had been installed properly and his worker ran into it, it would still be OK. I guess, according to Dennis, unless it is installed into the studs it is not installed properly! Whether into studs or anchors in the drywall, it was installed tightly and properly to the wall until his worker ran into it. That is all that matters! I understand that accidents do happen, but one would expect an ethical company to say they are sorry and correct the situation. But not the GROUT DOCTOR FROM ST, CHARLES. Dennis said he would send me $20 or $30 and I could do what I want with it. He further pointed out the clause on the back of their quote that reads "UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL CONTRACTOR BE LIABLE, BY VIRTUE OF THIS PARAGRAPH OR OTHERWISE, FOR DAMAGE TO ANY PERSON OR PROPERTY WHATSOEVER, OR FOR ANY SPECIAL, INDIRECT, SECONDARY OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGERS, OF ANY NATURE. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES SO THIS LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.". So, BEWARE! They can come to your home and do damage to you or your property with impunity! With a clause like that, I am wondering if they are even insured! P.S. Upon further investigation, I don't think Illinois allows the exclusion above. If that is correct, they are at a minimum being deceptive or worse engaging in illegal practices. Also, we finally received a check for $50. So maybe a conscience is starting to develop. read more

Dennis provided an estimate for caulk and grout work on March 2nd. Logan (his grandson) did the work on March 11th and was very polite and neat - did a great job on the caulk but obviously was not skilled with grout. I requested Logan to come back to correct the grout work because I was not satisfied with the quality of the work or the color. He did with no problem but again it was still poor quality and the color was way off. I then asked Dennis to have Logan return a 2nd time and Dennis said "what is the issue? He has been there once to repair." I sent him a picture to show what the issue was and was then told "will come by next time in Naperville to fix." That was on April 6th and have not heard since. I would like to add that I was charged $95 over and above the estimate for "reset corner wall tiles (loose)" which I was not advised of until time of payment. Both my husband and I were home and should have been advised of any issues. Although Logan was very polite and was very neat with his work - the grout work was just poor quality. Dennis, the owner, demonstrated very poor customer service to me. He should have come back to make the job right without question. I am very unhappy with how my backsplash looks now. Total job was $665 and the grout work was $360 and I still have to try to have it restored. As a consumer, I am extremely disappointed with the substandard quality of services as well as the substandard customer service provided by this company. I live in Elmhurst and Jim came out to do an estimate and did the work himself. He was very prompt and pricing was reasonable. I needed a tile shower floor regrouted and he caulked/grouted all cracks in the shower's grout as well. I would recommend and will be using this service again if the need arises. read more

When some of the work was done in a very unsatisfactory fashion, the owner came to see it and would not take responsibility for it. He was very rude, raised his voice, and became very defensive and confrontational. He never apologized and never gave me any compensation after numerous texts and emails, although he promised he would. Do NOT use this franchise of this company. read more
