This one for me is a bummer. Reason being is that Pep's had been on my "go to list" for many…read morereasons and main one was word of mouth. Friends and co workers raved about it and it gave me high expectations. Before I start I'll say first that this was my first experience here and maybe I shouldn't have sat at the bar. Nonetheless here is what I thought Elijah was our bartender and he did his job. Attentive to the bar patrons and the people sitting on the tables around the bar area. It was only him so I give him kudos for doing a great job! Now the food... We ordered their CAB NACHOS, RIBEYE CHICHARRÓN and a side of fries. The nachos were basic. Nothing too special about them. Looked more like triangle chalupas but the guacamole and pico were fresh and tasty. Nice portion and good taste. Again nothing special but I can see why the bartender said it was his favorite. You can't go wrong with that item. Fries, to me not really fries more like bulky curly fries. Needed salt but that's a plus cause at times places add too much. Now that item I was excited for... And it was a downer. When you call something "chicharrón" you must make sure that it's fried well and that it's crispy. The Ribeye Chicharrón was more like ribeye steak chunks instead. Nothing about it defined crunch at all! The presentation was cool though as it came in a jar sort of speak and they let them fall like a tower. Just fell short of my expectations based on the item name and description. Again, their pico and guacamole were delicious! My favorite was the pico! Really fresh. I will need to come back and try their other items but their first impression to me was mid. Again, my opinion and my experience. Godspeed everyone!!

The salsas rate from "pleasantly hot" to "make your head tingle" to "am I crying?" so be wise in your consumption. Service was attentive and pleasant, and the drinks were very reasonably priced. My family got basic fare. The green and red enchiladas both looked great (the green with chicken tasted great too), and my wife's "morning in a bowl" would have fit in at a fancy brunch. However, my Molcajete was the star of the show. Sizzling and filled with delicious meats, cheese, peppers, and onions. It was a serious amount of food, and everything was kept piping hot throughout the whole meal. Dessert was pretty legit too. The churros are big and perfect. The Sopapillas were light and delicious, though I was left wishing for powdered sugar. Overall, this place is a new favorite for our frequent trips to Corpus.

Overall, the food was decent and I appreciated that it came with extra salsa (the salsa girlies get it). We did run into two snafus: 1. They had 2 items in the vegetarian section and the one that I ordered (enchiladas) were no longer available which left me with the quesadilla. This was a bit of a bummer because I was really looking forward the enchiladas! 2. I got a margarita flight which was listed at $13. It was delicious! However, when the bill came, it was listed at $16 which took me by surprise. The server was apologetic and was able to figure it out with management. I am grateful for how they handled the situation.

What a treat to find in downtown Corpus! After great experiences at El Camino's sister restaurant,…read moreWater Street, we expected good things and were still blown out of the water! Right from the jump, our friendly server brought us complimentary chips with salsa and two sauces. All were delicious and a perfect holdover as we dove into the menu. I am finding that 5 pm is "early" in Corpus and the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived, but started to pick up by the time we left. For us, we didn't mind at all as service was attentive and speedy due to the emptiness. We ended up kicking off with drinks in the form of a paloma and a desert rose (I never pass up an opportunity for mezcal) and both were perfectly balanced in flavors. To eat, we shared small dishes including the Tex Mex BBQ oysters, tuna tostadas, and side cheese enchiladas. All three were 10/10 in their own way! The oysters (which I usually prefer raw) had such a deep and developed flavor I could have eaten 12 on my own. The tostadas - a fresh and bright bite welcomed in the heat of the summer. The cheese enchiladas? Simple, but executed perfectly! They were reminiscent of a local place I used to frequent when I was a kid, and have ever since compared all enchiladas to. Rarely do I find a good match, but to my surprise El Camino delivered. As with other businesses in the area, expect to find street parking and to take a bit of a stroll (absolutely worth it when you pop into other places along the way and make an event of it). Once you enter the doors, you are transported into a completely different atmosphere where you no longer feel you are in downtown corpus. The decor is fun and bright, yet welcoming and warm and there is plenty to look at! I look forward to returning to try more!
