Very disappointed with our experience. Wait staff was ok, the 'runner' had a pretty rough attitude. They had a limited menu, which I can understand. The food was below average. Stopped in the Grumpy Monk yesterday to check out the Happy Hour food. I ordered the six bone in wings and a order of the loaded kegs. The wings were big and cooked perfectly and coated perfectly with the hot teriyaki sauce . The loaded kegs were cooked perfectly crispy and loaded with cheese needed a little more bacon it's a great snack with wings. But my take on the kegs is a little too much cheese. It's laying in the bottom of which makes them mushy to eat. The wife ordered the boneless wings with garlic Parmesan and a side of hot sauce and veggie roll. Wings was perfect. The hot sauce is a little hot but with ranch it's perfect. The veggie roll was perfect also. read more

We came to eat at this place because we heard it was good. And it was close by our hotel. Unfortunately to say it was our worst meal here. It's a sports bar atmosphere that serves American food and Sushi????? My husband ordered sushi and it looked like it was from a gas station. I guess that's what you get for ordering happy hour sushi. He didn't touch it. We ordered an app called the Monk Turds which we're very good and uniquely flavored. We ordered a Mac n Cheese for our son and a fried flounder sandwich. The sandwich was awful. The fried fish was soggy and the hoggie roll it was served on was plain like white bread so it all was wet and mushy. Their "tarter sauce" was just Mayo. The Mac n Cheese was subpar, our son even turned his nose up to it. The only saving grace for this place was the Monk Turds. read more

The service and atmosphere are usually great. It's a sports bar, but it isn't just a sports bar. Yes, there's TVs and beer related items all over the place but I don't hesitate to go with people who aren't drinkers or have kids in their party. The menu is varied and the sushi is popular. (I've had friends rave about it but it's just not my thing lol) they have different events on certain nights like trivia or bingo, which we enjoy and have come back for. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the consistency of the food. Sometimes it comes out over cooked or over fried other times it's lacking some seasoning. It's never "bad" just not consistent. It's worth a try if you're close by. read more

I came here with a group of 6 took about an hour to get a table. We played fun arcade games together and then we had to wait another hour to get our food. I got the rodeo burger which is a must if you are a burger person. The service was a bit slow but I can't blame them on a Saturday night. If your in a rush don't come here but if you want to sit down and have a good filling meal, this is the place for you. read more

I ordered a bunch of appetizers via takeout on Wed, 5/27. The only dish that was good was the wings; tots were swimming in cheese sauce, nachos were sparse and flavorless. The bartender who rang me up had excellent customer service skills and was very pleasant. The 2 stars are for the wings and the bartender. I called on Thurs, 5/28 around 710pm to place a takeout wing order. A staff member answered the phone and I stated that I would like to place a to go order. The staff member said, "Can you call back in 10 minutes?" and then hung up on me. I called back several times thinking the staff member must have made a mistake by hanging up since she didn't even give me a chance to respond to her question. The phone kept ringing, no answer, no voicemail. Perhaps she was living up to the grumpiness in the restaurant's name? Is this how you treat your customers? We decided to spend our money elsewhere. We placed a large order at a restaurant a few minutes up the road. They were happy to have our business. We won't be returning to The Grumpy Monk. read more

Used to be the Whiskey River and that was a complete disaster. Called earlier in the day and made a reservation for 9 at 7:30. Arrived at 7:15 only to find out our table had been given to another party. So, the American way, we took someone else's table. Not what we wanted to do but anyways. Took 15 minutes to get a waiter and 15 minutes after that to get drinks. Service was eh at best. Did have cornhole in their "game area" and that was quite nice. Had to give a drivers license in order to get the bags which I though was odd. Food was decent. Typical sports bar +sushi. Would I go back, probably. read more

This was our first visit to this venue and it was incredibly disappointing. We left another local venue that was wonderful but didn't have live music. We got the live music but the service was awful. We sat at the center of the bar and were repeatedly ignored by the female bartender who walked past us multiple times without even eye contact. It was clear that if you weren't a regular you weren't worth the time. We are not local but definitely temporary/perm residents looking for great places to support and we dine out a lot. This is not a place we would ever return to. One shout out who earned much more than one star was the hostess. If you aren't a favorite local stay away! read more

We were originally told "kitchen was backed up" then later told our order was never placed. The manager came over, said "I'll take care of you" and never came back! My two friends and I went June 20th. We got there about 6:30 knowing we were going to hit the dinner rush. We had a 45 minute wait time, which we expected, but there was no place for us to sit, inside or outside. They were short staffed, which we also knew might be a problem going in. Our waiter was very nice but it took over an hour to get our food, he said the kitchen staff was having some problems. We were sitting right next to the kitchen doors and after our food came out, I noticed one of the kitchen doors was open and I could see in. I saw two men making food without gloves on and they kept wiping their foreheads and noses. I was so grossed out, I told my friends, we stopped eating and left. It was disgusting. We go to Myrtle Beach every year for a girls trip and we said we'd never go back there again. read more

The burgers were good but the pork chop was dry and the burrito was unimpressive. Food and service was great. I left my retainers on the table and didn't realize until about an hour later. I called the first time and was connected to the bartender on the night of 8/30 around 10pm. After explaining the situation, the bartender took zero interest it trying to help out and told me I was "out of luck". Dissatisfied, I called back and was connected to the manager, Jaime. Jaime was one of the friendliest people I've ever spoken to. I explained the situation and she said she's guessing that the retainers had likely been tossed in the garbage. Jaime then let me know that she would be going through the literal garbage to look for them. After about 10 minutes I got a call back from Jaime who let me know that she had found both retainers in the trash. I came and picked them up the next day. This place is AWESOME! I came in 30 minutes before they close. They made an amazing meal. I had the smothered chicken. I ordered Mac and cheese and tater tots for sides. Their monster chocolate cake was dessert. This is the best food that I've had since being here. Brandon was my server. He was a super cool guy. Ask for him and you'll like him. No worries atmosphere which helped me because I had one hell of a day at work and was on edge. I'm walking out feeling much better and enough leftovers to have a huge breakfast. During COVID-19 pandemic, NOT ONE SERVER WORE A MASK. They had a sign stating that servers could refuse to wear a mask based on health conditions or religious reasons. I find it very hard to believe their entire staff had a medical condition or religious belief that prevented them from wearing a mask. Hostess was extremely rude. Could not tell us a wait time, stated "I dunno, just wait over there for a little bit". When I went to the bar to check for open seats, the bartender approached me and said "what do you want?" I told him that the hostess had no idea how long the wait time would be. He immediately became defensive and said they were operating at 50% capacity and that she really didn't know what the wait time would be and that she wasn't trying to be rude. He demanded to know that instant if I would be sitting at the bar. We got a table. The menus were filthy, obviously had not been sanitized, mine looked like it had ranch dressing dumped on it. Sushi was alright, build your own salad was at least a 2 quart Pyrex mixing bowl filled with wilted lettuce with a few toppings on the top. Highly disappointing. Server was not available and not even seen during our entire dining experience. She took forever getting me a glass of wine. With the Pyrex bowl still full of salad, she did not ask if there was anything wrong with the meal. I dined with one other person and we were not given napkins. With server nowhere to be found we had to tear the one napkin we had in half to share it. We had really looked forward to going to this restaurant it looked good but we felt very unsafe there with current events and if you want to live and not get the coronavirus I DO NOT RECOMMEND going here!!!!!!!! read more
