Let the table candles show up. Great outside balcony we didn't know about until we were leaving. The kitchen is good and working hard to be better. The chefs come around because they care. "Grumpy is the new happy". Wonderful place 2 easy miles off I-40 and well worth the extra 2 mile drive for lunch or dinner if you want something other than fast food. The food was served piping hot, flavorful, and fresh. Everything seemed to be made back of house rather than from frozen or canned. Adequate list of alcoholic beverages (no beers on tap). What a lucky find! Very small town area but big town food, service and bar service. Decor is unusual but very comfortable and welcoming. Don't be fooled as you walk in...there is a back bar and an upstairs so plenty of seating. A little of everything on the menu for anyone...if they have peach cobbler...leave some room...the BEST I have ever had and I live in the home of the peach festival. I've been coming here since last year when I first started at LES. My family and I have since moved to Lonoke, and the Grumpy Rabbit is always a must-visit! The few occasions that we've met Ms. Gina, she is the sweetest woman and very caring of her community. The staff here is amazing! Most choices in central Arkansas for dining are corporate chains. We like small businesses. Grumpy Rabbit was listed on OpenTable and the reviews were good. Let's take a drive to Lonoke on a Wednesday evening. When arriving the staff opened the door for us and were very welcoming. We sat in the back of the restaurant with the bar in sight. They had a full bar with lots of choices so that was cool. Wifey had a couple red ales on draft, I had a Moscow mule made with some local sweet potato vodka named dirt or something like that. The beverages were good. They had a crab cake special and when I asked where the crab is from the server checked then after some time I was informed the crab was from Venezuela.. Definitely not fresh if from Venezuela. 3 of us shared the Black Eyed Pea Hummus, it was phenomenal and a bit spicy. Server never brought any share plates. We ordered Swamp Grits, Grumpy Burger & Pasta Primavera w/ Chicken. Swamps Grits were warm not hot, you could see and taste the dish was sitting for a bit. Grits weren't great as a result. Flavors were good though. Grump Burger was tasty, especially liked the aioli. Their lettuce attempt was 1 paper thin piece. And, the frites were cold. WTH! The Pasta Primavera wasn't anything to write home about. The amount of vegetables was lacking for a primavera. Seems like a dish not well thought out. I didn't see any shaved Parmesan but grated. We had carrot cake for dessert. No complaints there. In terms of food, drinks and service it's 3 stars at best. In terms of a night out with your special person(s) it's a 1 star. The lighting is so bright and white like your in a CVS store by the pharmacy. Maybe the lighting suits the lunch crowd but it's not suitable for a nice dinner IMO. Just tweak the lighting and time the food better so all the entrees are hot. List local ingredients and utilize what is available right here in Arkansas. We stopped here on our way home to Texas from Indiana. Oh. My. Gosh. This place is amazing. I was worried, as Lonoke is small. I worked the good reviews were because it was the only restaurant, besides fast food. No. This place is worth the hype. The Gouda Mac and cheese is to die for, you get just the right mix of creamy cheese and truffle oil. I would get extra mushrooms, but that's because I love them. The swamp grits.... I'm a big shrimp and grits lover, but this far surpassed the best s shrimp and grits I've had. The crawfish, redfish and shrimp were perfectly cooked and the sauce was amazing: a mix of sweet and slight heat. Don't leave the carrot behind, it was the perfect complement to each of these dishes. All the servers were as friendly as you could want. And the service was fast. A pleasant experience all around. read more

We also ordered the Roast Beef sandwich and the burger. Both came on a soft hoagie bun. The side salad is made with a spring mix, tomatoes and cucumbers. The ranch was good too. The home style fries were a little soft and under seasoned but it is fine when you dip it in one of their sauces. Prices were reasonable. I would reserve a table on open table. My wife and I returned for dinner after having a less than pleasing lunch about a month ago. Something told me there was a lot more here. And was I right. We were greeted by a smiling manager that introduced herself and showed us to the table. We were greeted by a lovely server who explained all the specials and took our order. I had the filet with mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms. The filet was cooked perfectly and was excellent. The mushrooms may have been the best I have had and the mashed potatoes were ok. Very disappointed in fried chicken today. Mashed potatoes were cold and appeared to have been made ahead of time. Gravy was forgotten and we had to ask for it. We almost had finished eating before they finally brought out the gravy (which was cold also) chicken was just Ok, esp. my husband's. He was Given a wing and thigh and Neither had very much meat on it. I was given a cardboard box for my greens to take home and had to ask for a take out container that would hold liquid. Totally not worth the cost. Could have dined at Popeyes and gotten about the same quality of food. read more

A true jewel of Lonoke. We picked up strawberries at Barnhill Orchards & stopped her for lunch. It is a dry county but there are 2 full bars. You join the "club" when you give them your name & phone #. They also cannot advertise the bar menu, so I will here. It has a large 2 story eating area broken up into smaller rooms each with its own vibe. There are 2 outdoor patios. Also rooms for private parties. We ordered the veggie burgers & homemade fries. We went to the Grumpy Rabbit on 12/22/23. I'm from out of town so I didn't realize that Lonoke wasn't super close to my in-laws' home. Whoops. But I can say that this place was worth the car ride! I came with my husband and my in-laws. It was a first-time try for all of us. We had reservations and we were seated very promptly. Service: The staff was very friendly and helpful in recommendations. I think the owner or manager came to check on our table a couple of times too. Food: We had the Fuzzy Bunny cocktail and the Bramble. Both were delicious! We had the smashed tots for the appetizer. Get the spicy ketchup! For dinner, we ordered the blackened redfish, the alfredo, and the mac and cheese. The food was terrific and I see why the Grumpy Rabbit gets consistent praise. The blackened redfish is amazing - don't miss out. My in-laws agreed that this was the dish they were both ordering when they returned. The other dishes were also excellent. The portions were also very generous. For dessert, we did the carrot cake and the chocolate cake. I don't normally prefer carrot cake over other desserts but that icing made me a believer. Ambiance: The restaurant is clean and cozy. There is an upstairs dining area but we sat downstairs. It feels casual, nothing stiff or formal, which I liked a lot. I liked the local touches at the restaurant - a poster for the Lonoke high school basketball team, etc. I really like how it's trying to be part of the community. I can not say enough great things about this establishment. I'm just gonna say it is a mood, especially after dark. First off, the restoration, use of space, and division of this place is very very well done. The hostess could use a little more room for people when they walk in awaiting to be seated but space restraints are what they are. The food is FANTASTIC. It is all well proportioned with high quality ingredients and well worth the larger city price. The staff are amazing and you can tell they like what they do. The decor is very pleasing and the choices for seating areas are phenomenal. The outdoor-upstairs and downstairs- balcony eating areas would be a great place for a wedding rehearsal dinner with plenty of places for some swoon worthy photography or even senior pics (check out those staircases). We are happy to have found and eaten here at The Grumpy Rabbit. Kevin (general manager) greeted us, invited us to look around and see the fantastic renovations of one the oldest building in Lonoke. We devoured the James Beard award- winning burger and carrot cake, but they serve many other delicious selections. Our server, Mary Robin was super friendly. Menu includes craft beers, wine and custom cocktails. Be sure to ask the history of the name, because it is a happy (not grumpy) place. We've been wanting to try this place for a bit and got a chance today. Soooo good! We had black-eye pea hummus to start. The pita slices were hot and the hummus was tasty with just the right amount of kick. The Reuben was among the best I've had and my wife's egg and bacon salad sandwich was fantastic. Was just passing through and saw that this place had good ratings. The decor is retro and cool. The food was actually pretty good. My only thing was, when we came in they said that they had to check to see if there was enough food.......at 1 in the afternoon...... with guests already seated and eating and a 6 top with drinks waiting to order. The Grumpy Rabbit is well worth the trip to Lonoke. We were there tonight with friends and family. All of us either had the Blackened Redfish or the Swamp Grits. Both entrees were delicious, according to everyone there. I had the Blackened Redfish. It was served hot and well prepared. The Redfish portion was large and seasoned well. It was served on a bed of their cheese grits with their signature sauce and their signature carrot. Everything was delicious! Those that had the Swamp Grits said they were delicious too.
