We had brunch at Coastal and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. We were seated right away and chose to sit outside, where we had a beautiful view of the water. It was relaxing watching the boats and parasailers while we enjoyed breakfast, and the weather couldn't have been better. Everything we ordered was excellent. The Sunrise Chicken Burrito was hearty and flavorful, the Country Benedict with grits was rich and delicious, and the Traditional Eggs Benedict was perfectly prepared. The homestyle potatoes were crispy and well-seasoned, and the grits were creamy and some of the best we've had. The service was friendly, attentive, and efficient without being overbearing. After brunch, we enjoyed walking through the nearby shops, which made for a perfect morning in Orange Beach. If you're looking for a great brunch with good food, beautiful waterfront views, and excellent service, Coastal is definitely worth a visit. We'll absolutely be back. read more

CoastAL has an amazing location right on the beach. The atmosphere is definitely the highlight, with a huge outdoor space, a nice bar, and live music that makes it a fun place to hang out. The food was good, but it was extremely overpriced for what you get. I ordered the grouper plate, which was around $40, and it came out cold. The portion of fish was also much smaller than I expected for that price. We also ordered the grouper bites appetizer, and it was disappointing--only six very small pieces for $20. It just didn't feel like a good value. The lemonade was also not very good. Overall, CoastAL has a great beach atmosphere, but the high prices, small portions, and food arriving cold make it hard to justify the cost. I'd give it 3 stars. read more

If you are looking for an incredible brunch spot in Orange Beach, Coastal is a great option. The outdoor deck seating offers beautiful views right by the sand. Every dish we ordered was a hit. The cocktails and creamy seafood soup made for an excellent start. For main dishes, the loaded avocado toast with breakfast potatoes, the decadent crab cake Benedict, and the spinach-feta quiche in a flaky pastry crust with Gouda grits were all delicious. There is no other restaurant quite like Coastal, the view and the atmosphere makes it the perfect beachside restaurant! We had a great server who was attentive and on top of it for our party of six! We never waited on a drink refill and our food came out fast! We sat on the bar side and the food was delicious! The pimento cheese is something you will dream of long after your trip has ended and is something we will order two of every time! The poke nachos were also a hit! The flounder sandwich was delicious but definitely more fishy than the grouper and snapper so keep that in mind! The American shrimp basket came with six shrimp and at $25 was not worth it unfortunately. The Coastal Colada drink was refreshing and tasty and something I would get again! Our server was absolutely perfect. We had to wait about an hour and 45 minutes to get a table which was fine but that shows how very busy they were tonight. Our server who had to be exhausted was quick getting us menus and food and drinks and refill of drinks. She was all smiles and incredibly helpful. The food was a mixed bag from great to average. So the restaurant is split in half, with one side being lunch and the other side being brunch. The food is amazing but I do wish the oysters were served on the lunch side, not just the brunch side. Our waiter, Dylan, was super chill and everything came out within 10 or so minutes of ordering it. We got the shrimp tacos, chicken sandwich, and the yellowfin tuna dip, ad well as some cocktails. I appreciate the management responding , it shows you care , how ever the size and lack of quality of the oysters is a problem easily solved have the shucker report to you about it , the cocktails in a plastic cup with 80% ice to liquid is also an easy fix , and a thermometer in the kitchen that's being used on fish could easily handle the overdone grouper . Ken's big 70th birthday weekend- we have plans to go to Coastal for dinner --we get there and they say they can't pull tables together. It's against their policy. I called them two weeks ago and asked if they could accommodate us and they said yes-- I explained to them it was going to be about 13 of us. No problem --we get there and they refuse to put tables together. I asked to see the manager. They will not put tables together. They can seat 8 at one table and 4 at another and pull a chair up - I was OK with putting the four kids at one table- but when he didn't want to seat the 9 adults - I'm like what???...one person's going sit by themselves or wedge in?? We arrived at CoastAL and were told it would be about 75 minutes. We got some drinks and let our kids chill and dance with the live music. It was a long wait, but at that point it would have been the same anywhere else. Once we were seated we ordered crab claws and the gulf coast blue crab dip for the table and my husband ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell. The oysters were so good. Coastal was our favorite meal our entire trip to the Orange Beach/Gulf Shores area. Our amazing experience started with being greeted by Corey the attendant as we entered the parking lot. Corey is a gem and Coastal is so lucky to have someone like him. The vibes of our meal stemmed from our interaction with him. Our boys couldn't stop talking about Corey during our entire trip and every restaurant we ate at couldn't compare because they didn't have someone like Corey. When we would drive by Coastal, the boys would say "is Corey working?" Service inside the restaurant was great as well! Our server grabbed our drinks right away. He was very helpful with our questions as well. I had the fresh gulf fish sandwich, my son had the oysters, his friend had the filet mignon, and my husband had the filet as well. My husband opted for the add on of lump crab meat to his filet. Everything was prepared perfectly. The oysters were HUGE. We tried three desserts because we couldn't pick one. All three were amazing for different reasons. My favorite for the chocolate peanut butter pie, but the carrot cake and the key lime cheesecake were also great. This restaurant is beautiful inside. We always come to coastal when we come down throughout the year, and they did not disappoint! We like sitting in the beach bar/outdoor seating side. Our server, Bre, was so kind and attentive! She offered us such great service. The food was amazing as always. We started with the pimento cheese which was to die for. I got the blackened grouper tacos which were delish! The fries are also great, perfectly crispy. Our drinks were also wonderful, my husband got the orange beach margarita and I got a drink that had coconut rum in it, just forgot the name. Went here on a Thursday night in February and everything was wonderful. I sat at the bar with Taylor is the bartender. He could not have been any better. The view is amazing. The wide options of seating is so cool, and the vibe is just what you would want at the beach. I got a beer and a can called cheap sunglasses, the crab dip, and gumball balls. Everybody in my party thought everything was awesome. I also got some food to go from the other bar to the right. Lisa and Andrew took great care of me making sure I had everything in my to go boxes and everything was bagged up nicely with extra utensils and napkins. Lisa helped me make some modifications to my dishes so that everybody in my party was able to split the dishes and try different things and we also accommodated people with different spiciness level preferences. To go I got the crab claws, the shrimp tacos, and the grouper sandwich. We were all very happy with those. We will definitely be back! read more

While this seems to be a lovely establishment, I would steer clear of it if you have any food allergies. Apparently it is not important enough to service staff to understand what is like to have someone in your party that has a food allergy. The most important thing, is to have the ability to empathize with your guests, and make their experience a good one. If there is an issue with cross contamination in your kitchen, then create an area in the kitchen solely to address those with food allergy needs. For example, when your customer tells you the sprite has no flavor, you don't just come back and tell them it looks fine to me and everything is hooked up. Try tasting it yourself and at least bring a new cup of it to the table. Don't come back empty handed. Then there was the Crab Cakes. After all of the seafood places I have been to in the southeast I found these crab cakes to be just so so. If you are going to deep fry them, please understand that the crab meat will turn to the consistency of tuna salad and is not pleasant to eat whatsoever. Perhaps skip the breading/deep fry and pan fry them instead? While the breading on the crab cake was crisp and delicious, it was a little off setting to have mushy crab on the inside. Overall 4 Stars Ambiance : 5 Stars for the view, 4 stars for the restaurant itself. If you want a spectacular sunset view or a beautiful gulf view then this restaurant is the place to be at. The restaurant itself splits into three section. A huge bar with a lot of seating and TVs, and outdoor section with a limited bar menu (great for family w kids and entertainment) and a nicer dining section with a more sophisticated menu options. We opted to the outdoor section because of our family and we didn't want to eat too heavy. Server: 4 stars out server was pleasant, friendly, professional and easy to talk to. Though it wasn't super busy she had a enough tables to keep her hustling but she made sure we had everything and automatically brought out drinks when we were running low with out asking. Food: 3.5 Stars - due to where we were seating the menu was limited but enough if you want a light meal. We opted for the following: Appetizer: Pimento Cheese 3.5 Stars House made white cheddar pimento cheese, seasonal jam, praline pecans, assorted crackers, seasonal fruit. The cheese had balsamic vinegar, nuts, and thin crackers. Stars - it was good a flavorful. The presentation was beautiful. The cheese was nutty and pleasant to the palate. It wasn't sharp or too mild. Island Shrimp Tacos: 4 Stars Key lime glazed shrimp, island rice, avocado mousse, aged white cheddar, pico de gallo, spicy mayo, micro cilantro. Served on a fresh flour tortilla. Due to the wet ingredients, this taco really need a second tortilla to hold the food. A lot of the items kept falling out and your fingers were drenched with the salsa. The shrimp were flavorful with key limes glazed. The island rice was a nice addition giving it a little bit more substance. Also, we believe the tacos would have better using pan charred corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas. Mango Tuna Tacos* 3.5 Stars Soy sesame marinated raw tuna, CoastAL slaw, diced mango, spicy mayo, micro cilantro, sesame glaze, toasted sesame seeds. This taco has a deep fried corn tortilla and it was a good support for the tuna and other ingredients. However, you can barely taste the diced mango. And it requires additional acidity (lime or lemon) to balance the sweet flavor of the sesame glazed sauce. Also, we think the dish should have been served with 3 instead of 2 tacos. Fresh Gulf Fish - Grouper House fries, CoastAL slaw. 4 Stars The grilled grouper was meaty, hot and fresh. Not too fishy and went well with the fries. Add lemon to the fish for acidity. Ancient Grain Salad 4.5 Stars Ancient grains, mixed greens, toasted pumpkin seeds, shoestring carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, feta cheese, dried cherries, champagne vinaigrette. A large dish w grilled chicken (optional). The chicken was juicy and seasoned well and it balanced out the flavors of the salad ingredients and feta cheese. It was a favorite!
