Well this hotel is not only beautiful but so much fun. We stayed here for a wedding and had a blast! Our room was so nice, the hotel looks fantastic, very classic vintage, the front desk staff was so helpful and nice. The event and bar staff were so much fun. The wedding and all the activities were so much fun at the hotel. I would definitely come back for another staycation. And being so centrally located you can walk to so many sites and food spots.

Historic hotels are fun but they also have limitations. We came here for a work leadership retreat for two days. The hotel has been recently renovated and is music themed. Every room has a crossley turn table and there is a huge library of vinyl records you can check out and enjoy. Rooms are sizable but with comfortable beds and tiny bathrooms. Elevators are fast. 12 floors go quick. Meeting rooms on level two and three. Main floor has a bar and restaurant and a French bakery. Parking and valet available and prices aren't cheap. There is the inescapable smell of age here and although it's been well appointed, it was just ok. The meeting rooms are smaller and we were cramped and that's less about the hotel and bad planning on our part. Food and beverages delivered well. Marriott brand made for easy points and the proximity to the riverwalk is a quick 2 minute walk across the street. I probably wouldn't go back if there were other Marriott options of similar level available.

Stayed at The Gunter Hotel for two nights and really enjoyed the newly renovated rooms. The location right next to the River Walk made it easy to get around and was a big reason I chose to stay here. Valet parking was available but at $65, it felt steep, so I parked across the street in public parking for much cheaper which worked out just fine. One of the coolest touches was being able to choose three vinyl records to bring up to the room and play on the record player they have in each room. It made the stay feel thoughtful and unique. I went with Miles Davis for relaxing vibes and Luke Combs for the country vibes. Did have a problem in room 721. The AC unit in the ceiling by the front entrance was making so much noise, when we shut off. Couldn't sleep. So had to go downstairs and ask for another room. And thankfully the person at the front desk helped out and gave another room immediately. The room was comfortable and quiet and the overall atmosphere felt classy without trying too hard. A great downtown option if you want something with personality and an unbeatable location.

Stayed 12.26.25: A beautiful historic hotel in the heart of downtown San Antonio. Located a quick walking distance from the Alamo, The River Walk & a plethora of restaurants, bars and several theaters. The hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays & customer service was top notch. It has a speak easy, mini museum downstairs, barber shop & attached is a French patisserie. The lobby has a music section where you can check out up to 3vinyl records to take to your room and play on the record player located in each room. The hotel was recently renovated and they've done a great job. The room was spacious, nicely decorated, carpets in the hallways were plush and fresh looking. I enjoyed my quick stay very much. Highly recommend!

Super nice staff; hotel was clean and welcoming. There is a taco place across the street - must try. Cheap and very good

The restaurant has a cool art deco vibe. Lots of interesting historical pieces to look at. The breakfast was great at the restaurant with slow service but the staff was apologetic and very kind. Drinks downstairs were well priced for Marriott. Great time picking up vinyls to listen to our room. Bathroom was a very nice and beds/pillows allotted for a great night sleep. Beware, the rooms did smell on the 12th floor like mildew or just old. There was a new paint smell trying to cover it but it was clearly mildewy smell. Almost ruined my stay. The location was very local to walking. But if you're parking as we did be ready to pay $60/night for parking.

Lovely hotel, wonderful location downtown, with fantastic staff & history. Be sure to see the basement & maybe get a haircut with the barber whose been cutting hair there since 1974! I work a conference yearly with the Air Force. This year they moved it to The Gunter Hotel. As excited as I was to see a new hotel, I was unaware it was a soft re-opening for them in progress. You will be too. It's quite discreet. The staff is handling it beautifully. The construction staff is excellent as well. Surprisingly quiet too. There was a couple of things that came up, but it was handled immediately & beautifully by the staff. The conference rooms were fit to the needs of each day perfectly. Hospitality staff (Tristan) was on the ball every day & on top of the primary conference area without fail. The whole staff from front desk, to the wonderful ladies in the dining area, housekeeping to the bakers to meeting the Barber whose been there since 1974, I did not meet a single person employed by The Gunter Hotel who wasn't an absolute delight to talk to & deal with during the day. I spent a week at this hotel in a different manner than most deal with hotels, so if I could ever recommend a hotel to people coming to San Antonio, it would be this one for sure. The breakfast, I had the opportunity to have each day, I enjoyed & it was wonderful as well. See photos for an example of the food, a typical buffet breakfast. They also had mini muffins, bagels, & other various pastries available. For drinks they offered coffee, teas, sodas, water & orange juice. It's great for all the right reasons.

Bathroom in my hotel room. Absolutely loved this hotel.

This was a really nice hotel to stay in. Valet is a bit tricky to find- It was very busy downtown when I got into town. They were pretty booked up and I wanted to stay an extra night- hotel staff was very accommodating and even made sure I got to keep my room and gave me late checkout the next day. Lovely little bakery onsite and the bartenders are top notch. Bonus is the record players in the room and complementary records you can checkout from the library to take to your room.

Wow! Romantic, lovely, newly renovated (reopened only a month ago) landmark hotel. Alejandro and Ovi at the front desk were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. They were well versed in the hotel's history and renovation and shared cool facts, stories, places to go, etc. The Christmas decorations were beautiful and the lobby lounge, bar, and Jots were very well appointed and buzzing with guests. Love they mixed the hotel's history and the modern perfectly (1909 to now) - from the original switchboard and mail drops to the in-room record player, lighting, fixtures and furnishings - our stay was both romantic and relaxing. Be sure to visit the Paris Baguette for delectable pastries and desserts. Thank you for a wonderful anniversary and Christmas visit.

    The bar connected was delicious

They dont have tap pay for room charges. Have to input your card number directly and it held $612 for 3 day stay. Too much.

What set it apart wasn't simply the beautiful hotel or location -- it was the level of personal care. Ariel at the concierge desk was wonderful. She helped arrange safe airport transportation for my friend when she arrived before me and, when my flight was significantly delayed, made sure she could check in without me. Being stuck traveling and knowing she was in good hands was invaluable. We were welcomed with a personal note, fruit, flowers and champagne, and then surprised with more birthday treats during our spa day. Those thoughtful details made the entire stay feel special. And the SPA! Easily one of the best I've ever visited. Being able to truly relax before and after our treatments -- especially in the beautiful post-treatment lounge -- made it an experience rather than simply a massage appointment. Jessica gave me what was quite literally the best massage I've ever had (and I've had a lot of massages!). Even the little things stood out: complimentary morning coffee delivered through room service and an incredibly kind and helpful room-service attendant. Luxury hotels can have beautiful rooms and impressive amenities. What made Mokara exceptional was how genuinely cared for we felt from beginning to end. The personal touches made all the difference. Mokara will absolutely be at the top of my list the next time I'm in San Antonio. Five stars without hesitation.

It was still AMAZING and left me wishing that I could stay longer! My King Room was huge and ultra clean and comfortable! Taking a break from work, I headed to the pool deck, which was small but sufficient and had comfortable chairs to sun in. I remembered an amazing redfish dish from Ostra, enjoyed so many years ago... I really wanted to eat at Ostra again this visit, because I saw redfish on the menu and wondered if it was really as good as my memory of it. I was initially bummed that Ostra was closed for a private event during my stay, BUT my disappointment quickly turned to excitement when I saw the same dish offered on the room service menu. YES!! It was as good if not better than my memory of it! Finally and importantly, the individuals working in valet, front desk, and room service were so service driven and friendly! Overall, I cannot wait to stay at the Mokara again in the hopefully, not so distant future!

I could go on for many paragraphs about how great our stay was at Hotel Emma but I will keep it short as this is something you just need to experience. First off, from checking in to, room service, to drinks in the Library, to our checkout, the staff was fantastic, friendly, and there to assist with absolutely anything you needed or wanted. Even the room service staff was top notch! The rooms were beautiful and well set up for comfort and luxury. Even the bathroom was luxurious and inviting. We enjoyed checking out the Private Library while having cocktails and learning even more about this fascinating building from the new and friendly Concierge. The pool was beautiful, warm and inviting and offered an interesting view from one of the upper floors. The Hotel bar offered some great perks for guest, private upstairs access away from the crowds, top notch service and attention from the staff and the opportunity to spend some time sipping cocktails on the couch in private in an old 28,000 gallon beer finishing tank. Having coffee and pastries on a beautiful outdoor patio in the morning was also another great opportunity. There was close access to many different places in the Peal Brewing square area adjacent to Hotel Emma including a great morning street fair on Sunday. Hotel Emma is the only 5 Star Hotel that we are aware of in Texas and also provided an outstanding Michelien rated restaurant for dinner (separate review). Over all, we can not find one thing we were unhappy with during our stay at Hotel Emma, other than the fact that our stay was far too short. If you are looking for the ultimate in Hotel stays/service, you MUST take some time and come for a stay. We will definitely be returning to Hotel Emma on our next trip to San Antonio.

As part of our wedding package, they were incredibly generous and included two complimentary nights at the hotel and dinner at Dorrego's for us to celebrate. Returning to the very place where we said "I do" was already emotional enough, but Hotel Valencia somehow made the experience even more memorable than our first stay. From the moment we arrived, the staff was exactly as we remembered them: kind, attentive, professional, thoughtful, and genuinely wonderful. Our room was absolutely gorgeous, and when we walked in on our first day, we found the sweetest surprise waiting for us: a bottle of champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a congratulations message written in chocolate on the plate. I actually teared up a little! It was such a thoughtful and adorable gesture that truly made us feel seen, celebrated, and cared for. There is something so special about Hotel Valencia. The environment is exceptional, the service is always outstanding, and even their gorgeous signature scent instantly brings us back to memories of love, celebration, and adventure. Every little detail feels intentional and memorable. I am so incredibly thankful that we chose Hotel Valencia as the place to celebrate both our wedding and our first anniversary. It will forever hold such a special place in our hearts, and we cannot wait to return again and make even more memories there.
