When I got there the lady (Yumi) said she did not realize how long my hair was and that I would have to call another hairdresser. That doesn't make any sense. Makiko from Hair Changers was recommended to me by a friend. She, along w/ her sister and her mom, have has been seeing Makiko for over 20 years! That's a powerful testimonial of Makiko's excellent work. I'm extremely loyal when it comes to my hair stylist. The last person I saw I was w/ for over 15 years and would commute to the peninsula no matter where I lived in the Bay Area just to be seen by her. But after my second baby (and continuing to have a full-time job), the commute time to see her was too much and I needed to find a stylist closer to home and work. After crying over the breakup (I mean, she did nothing wrong, I was so happy, it just wasn't the right time or the right place anymore *sob*), I scoured Yelp looking for the best rated and fairly priced salons in CV. I spent one afternoon visiting five salons to scope them out. Hey, my hair is serious business and I'm not about to "try a place out" and use my hair as a test to see if I liked their work. I needed to conduct interviews. After the 5th visit (all were duds), I was disappointed. Then I thought about my friend who has gorgeous long hair and figured I should text her to find out where she gets her hair done. And you know how the rest of the story goes. Makiko is an expert and has very reasonable pricing. I've been going to her for about two years for trims/cuts and highlights and always leave a happier gal. Note that she accepts cash only. Tried this place out for the first time because my regular place was closed for extended holiday. I have mixed opinions to get to the star rating. I guess it depends on what you're looking for on whether to go there, but I will not be back. - Cut: Decent cut. Standard experience nothing stood out. - Cost: Overpriced ($50+tip). Does not take cards, had to go to ATM. Products used were not high end. No types of head massage or extra service to warrant price. Equipment was older, worn. Suggest to ask what the cost would be prior to getting serviced. Seems like each hairstylist charges their own thing but there's was nothing awesome about the experience. - Salon interior: Clean yet older, not modern or updated. - Overall: If they plan on charging more or allowing stylist to create their own cost structure, the environment, equipment, products and experience should match. read more

I am writing this review for my mother-in-law who isn't computer savvy and isn't capable to do her own review. My MIL, Caye, is 87 yrs. old and frail w/ low vision issues. Alicia was Caye's hairdresser and she is just as nice as can be. Alicia is very good with elder clients. She couldn't have been nicer on the two visits she's had with her. The first visit was months ago and it was a wash, cut and set. Caye was nearly in tears of joy after having her hair done and Alicia was very sweet to her. The second visit was for a perm and cut. Again, Alicia was very patient and made sure Caye was comfortable w/ all the from styling chair to wash station and back. It was a real pleasure to find her. The finished product was very nice and complimentary. The price was very competitive. We will be continuing to patron Alicia. She is great. read more

Teresa Luckketta is a wonderful knowledgeable aesthetician and healer. She knows a lot about techniques to improve your skin and tone your face. Teresa has also lots of useful tips on the healing properties of water, good nutrition, and how to improve your microcirculation, all of which results in a radiant complexion. Teresa also has a great energy about her and I always got compliments after a facial/skin treatment. Definitely a great find in the Bay Area! read more

Although Deanna did a very nice job with a cut, color and style this salon seems to operate when and if they feel like it. Their hours say 9 to 9 yet today when I called to have my hair washed and styled I was told they were ending their day. Mind you this was at 11:00 a.m.!! This hairstylist deserves no stars! I called them before hand to make sure that they specialize in trimming long hair and not chopping it all of like most hair salons do! The lady I spoke with reassured me and said, "yes! You just tell her what you want" I walked in expecting a 2 inch trim, but left with more 7 inches taken off!! I had no idea when she took so much off, after I told her only a trim just cut off the dry area which I knew was only 2 inches! She kept going short, it was uneven she tried to do layers and screwed it up which she had to go shorter! I spoke up and told her "please stop you're taking off too much!" But damage was done! I expressed to her my disappointment, her response was a shocker! She said, " maybe next time you don't come here"... I paid get of course! She didn't even apologize to me! I have long, curly, color-treated hair and was paying my last stylist almost $300 for a cut and color which was good but always fell short. I loveee this place! Berta is the absolute best!! It was my second time ever being here (first time for a fabulous hair cut) and she still remembered my name as soon as I walked in the door. I have naturally dark hair that was lightened a bit over several months but I was never able to achieve the 'Blonde' hair I was dying to try. I had some ideas but was unsure of what it may look like. Berta knew exactly what I needed for my hair and oh my god...she executed it better than I could have dreamt. She is super skilled and talented and she will always be my go-to hair person for sure. I came in with nothing but terrible box dyed hair and a picture of what I wanted it to end up looking like, and a few hours later, I have the absolute best hair I've ever had in my life! I've been getting nothing but compliments! JoAnn is the best bar none!!!!!! She has been doing my nails for years and is always professional and gentle with her touch. All of the tools, the massage chair and the foot bath are cleaned with hospital grade solutions, and you get your own bag of tool accessories that is all your own and used on no one else. Have a little issue with one nail curling under and JoAnn always gets things straightened out with no pain and has never once clipped me too close. She doesn't take short cuts, like alot of salons, so you never leave with your skin itchy or a bleeding cuticle. Can't praise her enough and to top it off she is an absolute sweetheart. read more

My go-to girl is Berta. My hair is thick and medium length; straight in front with waves in back. She knows my hair and how to cut it just right so it looks great wash&wear. She is reasonable ($55 for a wash, cut, style). I might even try highlights next time... I'll let you know how that turns out. In the meantime, you should visit her ... Berta is the best! read more

Christine (the owner) has been my exclusive beautician since 1978. Her eye for color is totally amazing. I have changed from blonde to brunette and some colors in between and have NEVER been disappointed in the results. In 1998 I moved to San Diego and attempted to have my hair done locally. Big mistake! I fly/drive to have Christine color/cut my hair because the end result is so awesome. It is worth the cost to have my hair look good and the many compliments affirm it.
