This place is next to where I work. Today I decided to eat there. They had a salad with their combo so I decided to give them a try. This will be my first time trying Mediterranean food. I walked up to the server and told her, "This is my first time here. I don't know what to order". She said, "I would try the combo for my first time." The combo consisted of different items: beef, chicken, little salad, yellow rice (Maybe rice pilaf), side of pita and they'll ask if you want barbecue/Tahitian sauce. At the end of my transaction they gave me a rewards card. After a few visits you will get a free drink. Taste: Food was good. However, I did not care the falafels - It is $2.50 extra for 2 if them. Pricing: Average compared to the rest of area. The portions match the pricing. Overall: Good food. Price is decent. Greek Gyro meats were good. I wish I would get more salad then rice. I would return. The falafels I threw away. If I had to eat the falafels again it would be on one of those scary eats show probably with a side of poisonous tarantula. read more

** Late Dinner Review** They close at 12am and I came around 11:30pm after an event on a Tuesday. They ran out of beef (which I'm not surprised or mad about since it's late at night). But no lamb?? Halal food but no lamb?? I've had Halal guys at a spot in NY a few months back and It was abt $7-$9. The Halal guys here is over $10. And they don't even give you pita bread! You also can't pour your own sauces, the workers have to do it for you. Or you get packets of sauce for takeout. Are serious? I love halal guys. They will always have a place in my heart. I'd like to preface this by saying I'd have given a 3 star review if I didn't chew on a 1"x0.5" piece of plastic that I found in my food . The food wasn't as good as the halal guys cart locations in Manhattan and they give you very little protein. I got a combo plate and they only gave me 3 small bites of gyro. I had so much hype going into this place and was really let down. I came late (around 8) on a Thursday and the restaurant was fairly busy. There is pretty much nowhere to sit so you have to get your food to go. There are about 6 barstool chairs (that are usually always taken), and the are next to the door which creates a pretty cold dining experience. Maybe I came on an off night, but my food was so dry and so stale I will never be back. The food clearly looked and tasted like it was days old. Price for the large was $9.99 which is not only more expensive than the NY original but also portion size was 70% of what you get in NY (brimming full to the top) even though the containers are exactly the same. Also, some of the new workers aren't trained too well resulting in slow and inconsistent portion dishing sizes. You'll see from other reviewers as well as employee training is definitely an issue- folks (seasoned customers from eating NY halal guys) having to repeat what they want 3 or 4 times. A real shame- thought this would be a better challenger to the Boston-copycat Chicken & Rice Guys but ended up being a mediocre entrant. With so much hype, and the long-standing outstanding reputation of The Halal Guys in 53rd & 6th, the long awaited opening of The Halal Guys in Boston fell short of expectations. The glaring difference to me was the price:portion ratio. Any time I think of the original food cart, I think of the mounds and mounds of meat that the cart guys pile on your plate. The difference at the brick and mortar was that they were super stingy with the meat - 1/4 cup scoops!! Another disappointment was that they don't allow you to put your own sauce on. And in addition to that, if you were planning on taking your platter to go, and wanted packages of the sauce to put on yourself, it would cost an additional charge of $0.50. The lines were understandably long fr their grand opening weekend. The food was warm, and was not fresh. I will attribute to them cooking in bulk, to satisfy the crazy high demand of the weekend. I was hoping that the Halal Guys would reclaim the chicken and rice game in Boston, but it truly is hard to say that I would come back here over Boston-copycat Chicken and Rice Guys. My beautiful lady was hungry yet she never wants to choose where to eat. She always lets me. I want to take her to eat what she wants but she is never picky. We decided to get something easy and decided upon this place since it was right across from our hotel where we were spending most of our time. My amazing lady picked the chicken gyro while I got the beef. We sat next to the drinking fountain against the wall. I love watching my beautiful woman pick at her food. She is such a picky eater. I suppose that's how she stays in such amazing shape. I love her curves and stunning ways. Her beautiful smile is what I hope to see everyday for the rest of my life. While we were here, the wind kept blowing the door open and funneling into the restaurant blowing napkins and debris throughout the place. It was cute the first 7 times because I could see my beautiful woman's hair blowing in the wind and it made me that much more attracted to her in that very moment. The 8th time it got old because I was the only one in the restaurant getting up to close the door with the exception of the Asian gentleman next to me who did it once. The food was decent, however it could use some seasoning. A revolving door should be installed because of the wind. The Halal Guys you receive 4 stars from me because I was there with the beautiful love of my life and I got to her her hair blow in the wind which was a gorgeous sight to behold. Her hair is so long and dark and silky smooth. Pricing is more expensive than NYC, but still not bad for the amount of food you get. The reg platter is 2 meals for me. Each plate came with 2 sauce packets. Add $0.59 per additional packet. I also saw a little fridge with sauce bottles next to the soft drink fountain. FYI the white sauce is BOMB and the red sauce is really spicy. Service was defs friendly BUT pretty slow. I mean there were only 2 people ahead of us and I felt like I waited an eternity. A handful of drunk people around midnight so if that's not your crowd I would stay away. Meat was drier than expected, but not really an issue since I drench it in sauce anyways! Overall it tasted fine and was good enough. Finally got to try this place out. It's based on a famous food cart in NYC, so there was hope that it'd be something good. Right off the bat, there are going to be comparisons to Chicken & Rice Guys who also operate in nearby Chinatown. Having been to both, I'd say that both these businesses are interchangable at this point. The prices are about the same, and portions are about the same too. Chicken and Rice focuses more on the meat, and Halal Guys focuses more on variety in the plate. I ordered a regular platter and it was ok. Nothing really jumped out in terms of flavor or presentation. I wish the person who made my dish put more sauce on it. It was pretty fast service when I went around 6:30 PM on a Wednesday. The restaurant was clean for the most part, and the atmosphere is in and out. Until they make some drastic changes to their product, I'd aim for other places in the surrounding area. It doesn't make sense, it's assembly line style prep of the food, each person has a job down the assembly line. But why oh why do I find myself waiting in line for over 30 minutes when there were less than 10 people in front of me. They bust out orders so quickly at the cart in NYC and at every other halal guys I've ever been to. The chipotle manager around the corner should come give these guys some tips.. but the food is good, beef gyro was tender and tasty. I always get the combo platter with both chicken and beef. Beware of the red sauce, it's very very spicy! But the good news is that the white sauce kind of covers up the spicy a little bit. However with the location and the price of the plate compared to NY or even chicken and rice guys in Medford, it's not worth it. I mean, the food is good but when you have competition next door and within the area, I don't think I would go again unless prices drop or services improves. Your sauces are capped and they charge extra if you want an extra sauce. Not to mention the current ridiculous lines and the speed of order. It's not one of the stands in NYC, but it's Halal Guys in Boston. I would rather walk 10-15 minutes out of my way to get this over Chicken and Rice Guys. The chicken and lamb is more moist, flavorful, and of better texture. The sauces are more complex, flavorful, and fresh. There are more vegetables and pita. The overall quality is better in my eyes. The only thing I wish this store did is to leave out sauce containers for us to bring sauce home and avoid getting the food soggy. So happy to learn that halal guys is here in Boston. I've had it a million times in NYC and then they came to my hometown Austin. And now they're here in my new city!! Praised be. We ordered delivery and it came in a reasonable time and was just as good. Compared to their other locations, it would be better to give just as much lettuce and tomato. Amount of meat seemed a tad less as well. The only true grief though is the amount t of red sauce. We asked for extra red sauce and instead got two white sauces and one tiny red sauce. Come on. Okay, so I've been living in Boston now for 4 months and one night I saw this massive line outside of halal guys. Today after work I went in to try it. It's like chipotle with the line system. I thought it wasn't very flavorful, but that wasn't enough to make me write a review. I'm writing a review because on my way home from work my stomach started hurting and I feel sick to my stomach. It's saying a lot coming from a stomach of steel. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. I love Mediterranean food and there are plenty of better places to eat at for the same price in Boston! I came here at 5.15 on a Monday and it was surprisingly empty. Yay no wait for me. After I paid for my food, I turned around and was surprised to see so many people behind me! I got a seat at one of the two tables outside the restaurant and saw the line get longer and longer. Definitely come earlier if you want to avoid the wait. The menu offerings are similar to the halal guys cart in New York. I ordered a small combo platter (8.99), with a bottle of water (1.99) and piece of baklava (2.49h. The total bill was 14.31. Not super cheap, but reasonable. The portioning is just right for me, they are quite generous with the meat. I read a couple of reviews saying that they are stingy with the sauce, but they were ok with me asking for "a lot of white sauce". The girl working the sauce bottles was really nice and gave me whatever I wanted. But I do wish that we could squeeze the sauces ourselves because I ended up wanting more hot sauce later.... I also wish that the food was hotter, it seemed to be lukewarm when they serve it. The taste of the food was really good, as good as the cart in New York! Although they weren't officially open yet, they were doing a test run and we were lucky enough they blessed us with some of their greatness. As usual, the meat was wonderfully marinated and tender. The salad was fresh and the rice on point. As for the white sauce and their hot sauce, they have this down to a science as this point. For anyone who hasn't had it before, the formula is simple, rice, meat and veggies and at a reasonable price. Waited in line for about 30 mins or so. The line was long but it was moving along quickly. The dine in would fit probably 12-16 customers. Now that we have this in town, we don't have to travel 4 hours away just to grab some Halal guys. Tasted just like the original Halal guys. I got in just before the dinner rush, and got a combo plate (with an extra side of white sauce of course!). I was afraid the quality wouldn't transfer from the food cart to the storefront, but there was no problem there. There has been a lot of hype around this place. On opening day, I saw a long line up outside, and heard it took over an hour to get your order in. My expectations were high. Also, the menu has so few items that I expected the food to be very good. I got a falafel wrap - it was very basic, falafel, lettuce, tomatoes, and some sauce. It tasted fine, nothing special. Also, the serving size was small, and the wrap did not fill me up. You get a bigger portion size at Falafel King, which is about a 10 minute walk away. Or the chickpea fritter wrap at Clover is much tastier. Some other things I didn't like about the place. I am a vegetarian and do not want my food to be in contact with meat. However, the person preparing my falafel picked up a pita bread from a stack of pita breads that were piled on top of a mountain of shredded meat (someone has posted a picture of this here on Yelp). I asked for another pita bread and they had to heat up another pita special for me. Wouldn't they figure there is a good chance that a person ordering a falafel wrap or plate has some kind of meat related dietary restriction, e.g., vegetarian, don't eat beef. Also, it doesn't feel like a customer oriented place, more like a factory, everything is rushed, employees don't treat you like a person. I will not be going back. Pretty good for a fast food gyro and falafel. The falafel was soft and had a satisfactory taste, but not as good as many I have had over the years. I was surprised when asked if I wanted hot sauce on my gyro, but I tried it with some of the traditional sauce and I give the hot sauce a thumbs-up.
