Not what it used to be. I ordered a beef dip au jus. The beef really had no flavor. The cup of au jus given with my order tasted like canned beef broth. They get one star for the medium coke. My daughter and I went here after not going for a while. The pastrami is decent. My daughter decided to try the steak sandwich and was very disappointed. There was hardly any meat with a generous amount of lettuce. Not worth 11 dollars or 5 dollars for that matter. read more

I never really had good pastrami until i came to The Hat with some friends. We shared a good amount of food between the three of us. Onion rings, a burger , and a hot dog were shared among us. Great food but service and restroom needs to be better. Will only order from drive-thru from now on. Ordered a pastrami and fries from inside register. Went to wash my hands after ordering... restroom has no soap and no paper towels to dry hands (only a blow dryer available -- gross!) My order was called and when I went to get it the food was packaged for take-out. I was not asked if I wanted to-go or dine-in when placing order, but if I'm ordering inside instead of the drive thru, safe to assume I'm eating inside. Please package it that way. Fries were great but I'm never ordering them when dining-in again. There's no ketchup dispenser: instead they have tubs full of individual ketchup packets. Super annoying to have to gather, unwrap, and squeeze a million ketchup packets for the amount of fries they give you. read more

It took all 6 of us to take it down. It wasn't just a lot of fries, but the chili was also really good. The combination was just amazing. I don't know why this place got such a high ratings. I was craving for a onion ring and I was in the brea today so I went to this restaurants to get onion ring. Older guy who takes the order was extremely rude. After I paid for my onion ring, he looks at me and stare at my t shirt and throw the receipt at me and never say thank you and walks away. Wow, okay, the onion ring better be good, nope not even. The food was cold, not hot, soggy and they decrease the amount a lot. I haven't been to a Hat location in many years and I am a dunce for waiting so long to go again. I have to say I really enjoyed their pastrami sandwich, it was so gosh darn good. I love this location too, I was meeting up with family and friends across the street to a restaurant and got there early so I parked and was checking my phone when I saw The Hat (greedy lil me) and thought well, I won't eat it but I can order a sandwich and take it home for tomorrow's lunch....skipped over (actually...did the drive thru, but skipping is more fun to imagine) and ordered my sandwich, the smell was so tempting I had to put it in my grocery bag to keep it from tempting me further or I wouldn't eat with my family, these are the times I wish I had an independent trunk and not an SUV where it's all connected (sigh) but I fought the temptation (yeah, right, I got out of my car to remove myself from that sandwich) and the next day it was a heavenly glorious lunch (I almost had it for breakfast to be honest...earlies lunch ever...LOL) Great sandwich at great price, will be back! read more

I actually was highly disappointed in my experience here. I was so looking forward to my pastrami chili fries. The chili had an awful flavor to it, it actually tasted as if it was old, it wasn't fresh at all, the pastrami lacked seasoning, the only think I enjoyed were the fries , i tried to wipe all the chili off and eat around the pastrami. The Hat is a Southern California classic. If you're visiting from out of town or have been living here but never tried it yet, now is a good time to go. These guys are known for their world famous pastrami dip, which is the highlight of their menu and the first thing you need to order. It's basically a pastrami sandwich, with mustard and pickles, but it tastes amazing with all the flavors combined together. Meaty goodness with all sorts of umami-sour flavors. They are very generous with the pastrami too, with the pastrami spilling over and everything. I am a huge fan of this sandwich, but I know some of my friends who aren't into sour flavors aren't too crazy about it. It's the kind of sandwich that's hit or miss depending on your flavor palette. Their chili cheese fries are another very popular menu option. IMO massive portions, but mediocre quality fries. You definitely won't finish these fries on your first visit, unless you're sharing it with three or four other people. I'm not kidding -- these fries are HUGE. You can also upgrade them into pastrami fries too if you're feeling ambitious. If you do finish it though, prepare yourself for an "I hate myself" food coma that will last you the entire day. After coming here so much, my new interesting find is their "poutine." Order the wet fries for some gravy-topped goodness. I did not know these guys did poutines, but I'm glad they do because they taste amazing. Shoutout to Canada. I'm not a huge fan of pastrami but when my boyfriend is urging me to eat it then you'll find me at The Hat! I believe the price went from 8.99 to 9.99 (I'm guessing after minimum wage/taxes went up...but we all gotta eat somehow), however; the portions are still big as f***! Personally, I like an even ratio of meat and bread but The Hat is overly generous on the pastrami and you can always take some out if you're like me! I actually wanted to try some other things to venture out, but I'm a creature of habit so I just stick to what I like which is the Pastrami Dip. It seems the onion rings and chili cheese fries are also popular items from what I observed while people watching LOL... As far as the service, they just take your order and call your order #...there's not much interaction with the employees which I'm not mad about since I'm there to grub! Went into the Hat to try this place out. I first noticed that they had hamburgers. Not sure why because they have the best pastrami sandwiches ever... Well I was in line and the line did move quite quickly. I decided on the burger this visit. I got my coke cup and went over and filled it up. Got a seat and after a short wait my food was ready. The wait was not to bad considering the line for lunch. The burger was really good. Cooked just right. The fries were so big there was no way to finish them. You could share the fries and still have left over there is so many fries in the bag. This is one good value you get here for sure. The price was good for what you get. The food here is really good and you always get large portions. Endless soft drinks too. The place is clean and well kept. The management here must really watch what is going on. They make sure the tables are clean for the next customer. The place is a well oiled machine for sure. The parking is not to bad even when its lunch time. We parked close and it was easy to get in.
