FIVE STARS, hands down!! We've been coming here for 20 years and I'm finally writing a review! This place is a hidden gem, just south of the city of Placentia in east Anaheim. They smoke their high quality meats on property. So good you don't even need sauce but they have spicy and regular and you can buy a bottle of sauce to take home. Order at the window and server brings food to your table. Everyone is really nice here. Very clean. Never, ever had a bad meal. My only complaint is I wish they had baked potatoes. My family and I used to eat at the Los Alamitos location. The food was always consistently good! We moved years ago and I forgot how delicious Blake's BBQ was! This location also serves great bbq! I surprised my dad with their family meal and we all thought it was flavorful and tender! Don't skip the sauce! We always buy an extra bottle. The spicy sauce has the right amount of kick! I love the smokiness of the meat and their sides: mac and cheese, coleslaw, beans, and potato salad compliments the rest of the food! The bread is soft and buttery! I came for the 30th year celebration. Today they were giving a t shirt to the first 30 customers. I wore my Beast shirt that I won for doing their challenge. I ended up ordering the three meat plate brisket, turkey and pulled pork. The turkey was juicy, brisket passed the fold testand was delicious. The pulled pork was also delicious. None of the meats was over sauced. I pay for the meat and not sauce. If you use to much sauce you're trying to cover up bad BBQ. The BBQ here is perfect. read more

Food to go was ready ASAP, with a smile. Ordered plates of beef brisket, half slab baby ribs, and pulled pork with BBQ sauce on the side. Baked beans and toast were excellent, and Cole slaw was mild but good. Meat portions were a little smaller than what I thought they'd be. It was all tasty, though! read more

I'm not the most critical person when it comes to American BBQ, only because I didn't grow up eating it often. So when it comes to the sauce, I never really know what I'm looking for. But my family came here for my dad's birthday and it was great! LOCATION - located in a business center, there's the restaurant, and there are their corporate offices. You'll easily be able to spot out the restaurant part. They do have an open patio that does allow dogs. I was a little worried because it looked like it was part of the indoor portion, but I checked with the staff first and was able to bring in our pup. Parking in plentiful, so no worries there. SERVICE - Really friendly and helpful people! Each single person. You order at the counter then they bring you your food to the table. We're a party of 6 so wanted to figure out how to get what we all wanted without an abundance of food, so the lady at the counter helped us so politely. Didn't make us feel bad at all for not really being 100% ready when we approached the counter. The guy who delivered our food was quirky and super nice! AMBIANCE - Very casual feel. I feel as if when it gets busy, there is a wait, but we did an early dinner so we were good and there was a table for us 6, no problem. FOOD - Everything was pretty good! Again, I'm no BBQ-snob. But we all really liked their BBQ sauce because it wasn't too vinegar-y and didn't punch you in the face. It was so good my dad ended up buying a bottle! Their mac n cheese was my favorite side dish and their brisket was delicious! The only thing I noticed was their baby back ribs and spare ribs wasn't as tender, so you do have to work for it. The spice was not what she was expecting so I was going to order her chicken strips without sauce, but they made her a plain chopped chicken salad. No charge. They even packaged up her buffalo chicken for me to take home. They were apologetic even though it wasn't their fault. They didn't make my daughter feel bad about her error. This was our first Easter in over twenty years that we had no plans. A friend told us about an Easter special Blake's was offering called The Hungry Bunny for I think $130 and so we ordered it. The meal included smoked turkey breast, smoked ham, green beans, mashed potatoes & gravy, fruit, green salad with two dressings, and bread & butter. My family (two adults, two teenagers) got two full meals out of it! Everything was great, but the turkey and gravy were real standouts. I am normally not a fan of smoked poultry, but that smoked turkey was incredibly good! I was a little sad that we didn't order extra. The turkey gravy was also delicious. I think we might make Blake's a new tradition for when we don't have holiday plans. I really appreciated the employees giving up their Easter morning so we could enjoy a stress free meal. Blake's also catered a lunch at my work this week, too! How funny is that?! At work they bought sliced brisket, ribs, kielbasa sausage, mashed potatoes & brown gravy, Mac & cheese, little corns on cobs, Caesar salad, and bread & butter. Oh my gosh, the sliced brisket was AMAZING!! Everyone was raving about it. The sweet yellow corn was so good with butter and salt. I'm normally not a fan of ribs, but these were very good. I loved the Caesar dressing! I didn't know before that Blake's does catering, but they were really great. They included plates, napkins, flatware, salt & pepper packets, and even individual packets of wet wipes - super helpful after chomping on ribs and buttery corn of the cob. Disappointed. It's been a while since my last visit, and I remembered Blake's Place having great BBQ--so what happened? Was there ownership change? I ordered a beef biscuit sandwich and a beef biscuit dip, along with two sides of mac and cheese. First off, the mac & cheese tasted like it came straight out of a box. Seriously--how does it end up tasting that bad? Then the brisket... Brisket should be tender, juicy, and full of flavor--not something that resembles a ham sandwich. This was a huge letdown compared to what I remember. The BBQ sauce (original) was terrible. Tried it on my brisket sandwich hoping to improve taste but made it more disappointing. Back at Blake's Place again with another review. I usually order The Beast, but today I went with the nachos plus the mac and cheese! The tortilla chips are thicker than usual, which makes sense with how much meat is piled on. I went with the chopped beef brisket and pulled pork, and it was packed with flavor. Everything was layered with melted jack and cheddar cheese, Blake's BBQ beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, and a big scoop of avocado. Every bite had a good mix of ingredients without falling apart. I also grabbed a side of the mac & cheese. It's creamy and has a nice texture. Solid side that works well with the BBQ. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. Good spot in a barbecue desert. I've passed by this place for years. A million years ago, a friend of mine told me Blake's was garbage, and since he's a chef, I never popped in. I went once a long time ago and vaguely remember that it was passable barbecue, but nothing to write home about. I'm not a barbecue connoisseur, but I don't pay for barbecue unless it's good. Years passed and I ended up moving pretty close to Blake's, so I decided to try it again. My renewed opinion is that it's a solid barbecue place and somewhat affordable- don't expect the best BBQ of your existence and you won't be disappointed. I'm not going to lie, there is another place that I prefer, but it's more expensive and has bad parking, so most of the time, I'd rather hit Blake's. Easy and reliable. After coming here a bunch of times, our order is: Southwest salad with tri tip instead of chicken and a piece of garlic bread - this salad is my favorite. I do wish they served the meat on the salad warm, but I understand many restaurants don't do that to avoid wilting. Brisket sandwich Peach cobbler - it's not the best but still good! Warm it up and add ice cream if you have it at home One time, we shelled out a bit to taste all of their barbecue options, and the ribs, burnt ends, and brisket did not disappoint! We don't often order the straight barbecue because it's more expensive than getting an entree, but I definitely recommend you get it if you can. I ordered the lil beast sandwich once and that was also good, although I didn't expect for it to be all shredded meat. I'd prefer straight smoked meat or the brisket sandwich. It contained a lot of fat. I ordered the one meat plate that came with pulled chicken, French fries and barbecue beans. It was yummy. The Texas toast that came with the plate tasted stale. It had been quite a while since the last time we dined at Blake's. There used to be lines at lunch time and a wait to sit at a table. We ordered a pastrami sandwich, Philly brisket sandwich, brisket sandwich and Ortega chili sandwich. Pastrami sandwich was good but could have had a bigger helping of meat. Philly brisket sandwich was dry and needed mayo! Brisket sandwich needed more flavor, had to use a lot of spicy bbq sauce. Ortega chili sandwich was good. The pickles were not too crunchy. We also changed our small fries order to a large. We received a small amount of fries and wondered what a small would be. The staff was friendly and the food came out quickly. Ok! So Gene reached out to me directly after my last visit/review and let me know they were having a chefs meeting etc. To be clear, it wasn't bad before...just wasn't great. This time when I came in everything was awesome. The brisket tacos were something different that I wasn't expecting to get but they were good. The ribs and brisket to-go was all cooked great as well. I came down with a massive craving for BBQ while I was hanging out at Concourse Bowling and I yelped for an emergency prescription of BBQ ribs. The closest place was Blake's Place and I immediately phoned in my order and drove way over the speed limit to get here. I know I was in a rush to satiate my craving, because I didn't even take a picture of the food! It did hit the spot and I think I ordered a full rack which meant I had BBQ for the next 5 meals. The ribs were not fall off the bone and were a little tough, but I was coming at an off peak time. I will give them another try when I'm back up in this area. The BBQ was tangy. They also have seating with a typical down home BBQ-esque ambiance. When i arrived, it was a full house inside. During lunch time. Believed i missed the lunch rush. Went to cashier, paid for my order and got my order within minutes. What we had ~ Full rack of bbq ribs. Was so tender and juicy. The ribs are so yum. ~ Blake bbq beans are full with bacon bits. Thick and yummy, I'm not a fan of baked beans. Gave it a try n it was yummy. ~ coleslaw is traditional cole slaw was good and creamy. ~ Garlic toast was good and not hard. Perfectly seasoned w garlic. Blake's has their own bbq sauce. Heard great things about this place and wanted to take my brother in law for some good ribs! Well, we got the back rib lunch plate and I do not recommend it. The beans and fries were wonderful, Both were hot and beans very flavorful and fries crunchy. Ribs.. what a disappointment! They were cold, but the sauce was hot, the ribs themselves were dry and tough. I cook ribs in my smoker, and the meat is ready to fall apart, not like these. A lady came and offered to get us some more ribs ( which were only slightly better) On the way out we saw much better ribs on another couples plate. I haven't been to Blake's in a while (not sure why ‍). I'd forgotten how friendly the staff is and how delicious the food is! We got here shortly after opening and as we walked to the door, the heavenly scent of meat in the smoker already had my mouth watering! This time around I ordered Tasha's BBQ Trio. So much food! Basically one and a half sandwiches: one pulled pork, one shredded beef, and one shredded chicken. SO GOOD!! The side of mac has a nice crispy top that was perfect. The day I came in it was raining, but they do have a nice covered outdoor seating area for dining al fresco. Glad I stopped back in today. I'll be back soon. read more
