The Hat is always great. I've been to multiple locations and the food quality is pretty consistent. The portion sizes are huge for the sides; French fries and onion rings. Not much for vegetarians though. That is the only thing I wish was different. For vegetarians they offer a grilled cheese, and an avocado sandwich. Both of these options are a bit underwhelming though. Very bland and nothing spectacular. This location was popping off! Much like all the locations. They get so busy. But our food came out really fast and was hot. I asked for ketchup and ranch packets, and the lady hooked it up. Which was nice. My first experience was at the original restaurant in Los Angeles. This particular restaurant here in Murrieta is nowhere near it in both quality and service. If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, or gastric problems steer clear because the amount of salt in the food is dangerously high. You will swell so wear sweat pants and take off your rings. The cooks appear to be so involved in their conversations they must have dropped the entire bag of salt in the brines. For the prices they charge you are better off going to a full service restaurant to get what you paid for. And bring a towel with cleanser so you can wipe down the tables before you sit or you will bask in the juices of the countless patrons before you. read more

I like the bbq beef sandwich and it's usually a French roll loaded with meat to the point that it's falling out. At this location it looked like a sad imitation of a Subway sandwich. The Hat serves up a tasty west coast interpretation of the pastrami sandwich. East coast types should just avoid coming here. LOL I have a friend, who rates everything based upon what it tastes like, against what they remember from back east. If the pizza isn't thin enough, or doesn't have the right amount of cheese to sauce ratio, then it's a dump. I'm sorry, but they're missing the point. The Hat's pastrami is thinly sliced and mild. What makes it special, is the dipping of the sandwich into the juice. Very similar to a Chicago Italian Beef. I'm not a fan of all the pickles they put on their sandwiches, but I'll survive. I would also recommend trying their Chili Tamales. Again not spicy, just very good; as are their killer Onion Rings. All serving sizes are huge, more then enough for two. This place was insanely good. When you walk in, you can just tell... they know what they're doing. I ordered the pastrami burger with everything it comes with (I almost didn't get pickles because I'm not the biggest fan, but the pickles made it!). This burger was one of the best burgers I've had and the pastrami wasn't dry or salty. Everything was perfectly portioned with everything else but it was A LOT of food. I almost ate my entire burger because I can't get this where I live and I didn't want to leave with regrets haha. I've thought about this place multiple times since we ate here a week ago. Try it!! We were eating at the Hat recently and while there I started to look around and was disgusted by what I saw. Old hardened food on the floor, paper product all over and white tile that was so dirty that it was black. I could only imagine when the last time they washed the floor. Because I enjoy eating I decided to call their Corp Customer Service and tell them what I saw. I called and left a message not once, not twice but 3 times and left my # each time. They never called me back. Soooooooo, I can check that place off my restaurant list. The place was a shithole. This was my first visit to "The Hat". The place was clean but definitely looked right out of the 70's. The menu was a bit overwhelming but I had the try the pastrami dip and fries. Honestly it was amazing, the meat was tender, flavorful and lot too fatty. 1 order of large fries was huge. Plenty for 2 or 3 people. It seemed pretty expensive at first but is all fairness $53 for 2 pastrami dips, a turkey burger, 3 fountain drinks, and 2 HUGE bags of fries of this quality was more of a value. Okay first time writing a review for this location. I have been coming to The Hatvl for years, mainly Chino location and Rancho. I have never had a problem. One day we ordered the chili fries here and they tasted fermented. I thought it was a fluke thing??? Today I only ordered a Pasteami Dip came to $13 with extra pickles. WELL, there were not extra pixkles...I can live lol... I split the sandwich with my daughter and quickly realized that the taste of the meat was off. It tasted old and stale with a funny after taste. Wow! This location... OMG... They make me want to move here! We were headed to Julian from LA and needed some food on the way. Saw an advertisement off the freeway and it just made sense to pull over and boy are we glad we did!! Service was wonderful here! The manager, this older gentleman was working the service counter, calling out orders that were ready for pick up. He noticed the ordering line was backing up and since drive thru was empty, he started assisting with orders at the pick up counter and having the drive thru clerk ring us up. Talk about thinking on the job on how to be most efficient! Plus he was always so friendly and welcoming to all the patrons! You don't see that often with management and I'm pretty certain he was the owner too. I always tell my bosses, employees are a reflection of management and these guys really love working here! Food too!! OMG best chili fries and pastrami burger! Or maybe top 3 lol. Dare I say chili is way better than the Original Tommy's!?? Pastrami burger I think I still love Langer's in LA but for the price this location in particular makes it pretty damn good!!
