This place is hands down the best breakfast place in the area. My wife and I just returned there after some time and we were delighted by the completely revamped menu. Everything is homemade and sure tastes it. Even the maple syrup is family made. The cinnamon bun French toast is ridiculously awesome. My wife had the poutine.....AMAZING!!! Went here 2 times and service was so slow the second time we walked out but not before thay tried to charge us 6 bucks for two tiny cups of horrible coffee.. Yes, there was only one waitress but she only had 4 tables. Go across the street to Cafe Delight for a great, and quick, breakfast. read more

This is my 2nd time going to The Hatchery. I liked my experience the 1st time. I felt this time the hostess seemed unfriendly and didn't want to be bothered. Either than that the waitress was nice. I tried the tofu scramble and it was delicious. It was grilled tofu with fresh salsa and slice avacado on the side. It also had 4 slices of butter toasts and fried potatoes. It was $9. This place is horrible. The tables are way too close together, the special, which was crab cakes eggs Benedict (normally my favorite) didnt come with an English muffin or anything at all underneath. The prices were high considering the low grade food. Service was terrible. We were never given napkins, not going back there. Ever. Also if you must go, bring cash. That's all they take. read more

Looks like a hole in the wall but don't let that fool you! This is a hidden gem. Breakfast was a bit pricey ($40 for two people) BUT it was delicious. Highly recommend the signature Cilantro Omelette, the bacon was absolutely perfect and the freshly squeezed oj was amazing! The pancakes are HUGE...my husband could not finish the two he ordered and they were a bit doughy for my taste but he enjoyed it and the Vermont syrup was great. Both servers were very friendly. Variety is the spice of life and I live my life by this motto. The Hatchery makes this one tough to break. Out of the three times I've visited, I have had their "Tofu Scramble" each time. It is served with seasoned tofu, half an avocado, salsa, home fries and toast or bagel with tofutti cream cheese. As a Vegan traveling for ski or Spartan race, this is a dream come true. The service is very friendly and fast no matter how busy they get and the coffee always gets me ready for what the day has in store. I can't speak for their other menu items but I can tell you that many people dine here and they all seem satisfied. read more

Best breakfast in town. The biscuits and gravy are awesome! If you are looking for a good breakfast before hitting the slopes this is your place. Nothing fancy, servers aren't overly friendly but serve you well, however the food is very good. I have only gone for breakfast so can't speak for the lunch. read more

Went to Vermont back in January. The place is very homey and tiny. But they have the BEST blueberry pancakes. Good for breakfast!

I've been here many times and I don't remember the prices being so high. I went this morning with my husband and 1 1/2 year old. I ordered the French toast sampler, he got an omelet with toast and home fries and I ordered a banana filled pancake for the little one (it's JUST a pancake, no sides). I'll give them this, that pancake was the best pancake I have ever had. HOWEVER, 35.70 for 2.5 people is a little ridiculous. 2.50 for a chocolate milk and the same for a cup of coffee. Robbing the tourists much? The food is good but I won't pay that again. They also only take cash. I'll give them 3 stars for having good food but I doubt I'll be back, unless they change the prices to be more reasonable. read more

Not even out of the restaurant yet & already writing a complaint. As a local, I love supporting local businesses, but this trip was the worst I've had yet. We waited 10 minutes for a table, understandable for a busy Sunday. But once we were seated we watched 2 more tables sit down & receive drinks & have their orders taken before we even got drinks (just adding that we have a smaller child in tow who was hungry). Upon asking if we could have hot toddy's the waitress said no, which is funny because they have hot tea as well as Irish whiskey on the drink portion of the menu. We ordered our food, then watched the server take another tables order & fill up coffee glasses before disappearing. 20 minutes later the table (whose order got taken after ours) got their food, maybe 5 minutes later SOME of our food came, but I still had to wait another 5 minutes for mine. Food was sub-par at best, the only one satisfied was the 3 year old who got pancakes, his favorite meal. I asked for a breakfast sandwich with over medium eggs, which came over hard & tasted weird. The price of the whole experience was insanely high & the quality of the food & service did not deserve to have such a high tab. We've now been waiting 15-20 minutes just to have our card run. She didn't bother to ask if we wanted refills on drinks, or how our food was, just gave us the check & walked away again. I've had some great dining experiences here, but again this was by far one of the worst Ludlow breakfasts I've ever had in my 6 years here. Get the pancakes, plain or any flavor. They are some of the best you will ever have. Huge, thick, tasty, just excellent. This is not an elegant place but it is very good. Never had a problem getting seated and the service is very pleasant. I always look forward to a Saturday morning feast at this wonderful spot. read more

I've been going to Ludlow every summer since I was a baby and was never a big fan of this place. That ALL changed when I went veggie tho because this is one of the few places around the area that has great options. They have granola, Belgian waffles, which are yummy, and a good selection of pancake toppings. Also, I found out last year they have Tofutti "cream cheeze" spread for bagels. This is in the middle of Ludlow, hole in the wall kind of place. Based on their prices they cater to the flatlanders. I had a delicious ham, cheddar and apple omlette, so good that I will attempt to make it at home. My honey had the downhill breakfast with french toast that was wonderful. I was happy with the breakfast, however had we been at home in CT there is no way we would ever spent this much for breakfast. We were tourists, paid the tourist price and were ok with that because the food was actually quite good. read more

This is a cash only restaurant which would have been to know before we ate. Breakfast was only okay but pricy for a hole in the diner.

While the sandwiches were better than usual, the thing I will remember about the place is that soda/tonic refills are an additional charge and the price was $2.50 each. The waitress never told us that there were no free refills. Almost everywhere I go, the price runs from about $2.29 to $2.59 with refills. we have been going to veront for 15 years. we have eaten in the hatchery many times over the years. we recently went in to have breakfast. new owners took over and the place . the food was terrible! higher prices too. don't waste your time or money in this dump. they don't care. service left a lot to be desired also. undercooked eggs, burnt toast , and tasteless pancakes. they won't last long there. read more

my boyfriend and i spent this past weekend in Ludlow VT. no crazy plans just relaxation on the menu. we found this wonderful place to have breakfast. By far the best breakfast we have had ever. we went back on day 2 for a follow up and enjoyed it just as much. day one he had the Breakfast sandwich and i had the breakfast wrap w avocado. both amazing! day 2 he had a Belgian waffle and i had french toast w a couple sides. again, absolutely amazing. highly recommend if you are in the area. worth every cent!
