Went to The Henry in Carlsbad for dinner with the family to try out the new spot. The vibe and presentation were 10/10--super cute spot and everything looked amazing. Service was awesome, everyone was so friendly and on top of things. We got the vodka rigatoni with chicken (just okay), the beef short ribs (really tender, but sweeter than I expected, still amazing), Scottish salmon (amazing), and the skirt steak (amazing). Did not get a photo of them, but you HAVE to order the short rib dumplings. Seriously the best dumplings I've ever had! Also ordered the spicy tuna, I highly recommend as well Overall, I'd give it a 4/5--worth going for the atmosphere and service, food is on the pricier side, but I think it's fair for the experience and presentation. Food: great! Appetizers are the way to go. Starting with most favorite: Prime rib potstickers, spicy tuna crispy rice, Brussels sprouts (flash fried!), pressed yellowtail, fudge cake. All amazing. Parking: easy. Came late at night, but still looks plenty even at a shopping center. Ambiance: a little too dark for my liking. Table lamp helped. Great decor and loved the sweet poems and inspiring words on the big wall of mirrors. Service: absolutely amazing. We took all of Kelsey's recommendations and she did not fail us. Really a 4.5. Sat at the bar and had cocktails and food. Bartenders were so meticulous and put a tremendous effort into my hand crafted tequila espresso martini. It was delicious. My husband got the Pineapple mezcal drink and it was well balanced. For food we got the Crab cakes, delish, salad and Eggs Benedict. Salad was super tasty, eggs were cooked perfectly, would have liked a thinner bread underneath though. Ambiance was nice, friendly and lively. The food is absolutely delicious! I have dietary restrictions, and the kitchen was very accommodating. When my family was first here a couple of months ago, Grace even brought the manager out to answer questions about my dietary restrictions, and the manager subsequently went to talk to the chef, who confirmed that they could modify their cooking to accommodate my needs. Grace is so sweet and personable, and so fun to talk to! Alayna also served my family today, and she was so kind and has a calming, friendly presence. Went here for my wife's birthday on 5/15, 6pm patio reservations. Good looking place with a good vibe, unfortunately their service and culinary did not match. Ordered their signature pretzel fondue, cheese was like warm and hard within 3 minutes. I would rate this dish a 1 out of 5 Ordered their signature pretzel short rib potstickers and had to wait 25 minutes for this appetizer. The server even had to talk to the manager about it. The dish was delicious and a 5 out of 5. Unfortunately even with the manager knowing there was an issue he never came to apologize. Wife ordered the sea bass, it was good and a 4 out of 5 Daughter ordered the wagyu burger, 4 out of 5 Son ordered the bolognese and it was not memorable, 2 out of 5 I ordered the chicken frites, and it also was as not memorable, a 2 out of 5 Another missed opportunity was recognizing the special occasion, I even listed it on the reservation made. Overall disappointed, really good wanted to like this new restaurant but they have issues. Lack of timing of courses, culinary is not memorable and they are overpriced. read more

My husband and I came to The Henry for brunch and absolutely loved it! The service was great, friendly and attentive without feeling rushed. We shared the Eggs Benedict and the Huevos Rancheros Enchiladas, and both were fantastic -- full of flavor and beautifully plated. We also split the Truffle Fries, which were perfectly crispy and downright addictive. For drinks, I had the Wildflower Dirty Chai Latte which was so good and my husband had The Butcher, which he really enjoyed. Everything from start to finish was excellent. The braised short rib was incredibly tender and fell right off the bone. I really enjoyed the lively atmosphere while eating my dinner.

The day started at the ER for me and when all was done my wonderful daughter said let's go to the Henry since we were both hungry. It was past lunch, a little early for dinner. Not crowded we asked to sit outside in their chic city-like outdoor vibe. Then the service... confused, too many staff not sure what happened to my coffee, coming by still confused and finally brought it--- the Cleo. Small but wonderfully prepared with almond foam. Highly recommend. Ordered rainbow roll to share.. fish was minimal but roll was satisfying non the less. Daughter enjoyed the chicken tortilla soup with crema. Could have been hotter. Took too long to get served but two managers were apologetic and treated us to the fun butter cake. Very tasty but have had better. We will come again for breakfast and Cleo refills! read more

Consistently fantastic food and service. I recently went to a local restaurant that was great. The next time it was awful. I could not believe the food was from the same restaurant. Consistentcy is important. The Henry has become our favorite restaurant. The food and the service are consistently excellent. I love the seasonal updates. Like the Scottish Salmon. I didn't think it could get any better. The summer version is delicious ! I'm a creature of habit but recently I tried the yellow tail sushi. Wow ! It was delicious. I had to order a second order. The icing on the cake is the staff. We have had the pleasure of being served by Grace and Elena on different occassions. They are courtesy, friendly, professional and so helpful. They are happy to give suggestions if you are unsure. All the staff that we have encountered are great but a special shout out to Grace and Elena. They go above and beyond to make our visit perfect. I can cook at home but I love the ambiance and the service. It is a beautiful restaurant. It's all part of the experience. Never disappointed at The Henry ! read more

Went last night and it's BEAUTIFUL but lots of work to get the bar staff up to snuff. It was like watching keystone cops behind the bar. The guy next to me orders a vodka martini with rocks on the side, I watched the bartender pour this guys martini in the glass in service area, spill half of it carrying it across the bar, tossed his rocks in the sink and gave him fresh ice when he asked for the rocks again?!? No experienced bartender would ever do that, clearly no idea of how to bartend. My husbands wine glass had soap residue in it. There were five bartenders behind the bar, nobody had it together. And doing service off the bar for a very busy restaurant crippled the bar. Everyone was waiting way too long to order. Also noticed two women nursing their drinks like mannequins and "saving bar seats" for friends that never showed up? Who is the boss here? I'm shocked at how dysfunctional the bar is. And when we ordered appetizers, they were out of the chilled shrimp! At 7:30 on a Friday, you run out of one of you best appetizers? The managers here need to go to Steak 48 in Del Mar and sit at that bar and watch real bartenders work and serve an upscale crowd. Hopefully the managers get their act together because if they fix the bar issues, it's going to be great. read more

A friend and I took a third friend for birthday lunch. Service was "ok". A couple of weeks later we noticed our credit cards were charged incorrectly. Mine was almost double. Her was tripled. We stopped in and met with a Manager who said that she would turn this over to the GM and we would get a call the following day. When we didn't get a call a few days later - I called and spoke with the GM. The "explanation" was the last four digits of our receipt was close match to another receipt and so was mis-charged The other receipt "explanation " was also somehow ring incorrectly. I asked if the other people were charged incorrectly and the GM said no - this is something that rarely happens (??). It would bother us so much, except the GM was dismissive. And borderline rude. Offering no apology, no "please come back and we will buy you an app". Nothing. This would not have been caught unless we found it. We won't be back. read more

I'm torn on this review as while the execution on food was great, the menu selection and vibe was just ok. I've been to the Coronado location several times and the ambiance and menu are very different. If I could give half points my review would be 3.5. 4 for quality of food and execution. 3 for menu. I feel like this menu caters to the retirement village across the street. Very traditional items for the boomers and retired folks. Which is ok but I'm not excited enough to make this a staple location. The good: nice cocktail menu, food made well and ample outdoor seating. The not so good: limited menu and ok selection. Service was ok- I think they are still working out the kinks. Dishes kept piling up at our table and we had to ask they clear them. Servers were friendly and helpful. Hoping this smooths out over time- I was here only a few weeks after they opened. I'm hopeful they expand the menu too. This is nothing like the Coronado location - I think the menu is better there (unless they've recently changed it to match what I saw at the Carlsbad location!). They did carry over the harvest bowl and I highly recommend that. I'd like more appetizers and salad selections. And, mains that don't cater to one generation. The forum is a cool place and we've been waiting for a cool restaurant! The Henry is good but not great, at least not yet. read more

Very excited that The Henry has opened - it meets a need in the area. We went on a Saturday evening as a group of six. Great cocktails. Excellent service. None of the usual "we just opened" hiccups. The food was solid - everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Overall I thought the food was very good, but not great. Unfortunately, the roasted chicken that I ordered was overcooked and dry...I knew it before I even had a bite (it should never have left the kitchen). Shopping center location, old Panera at the Carlsbad Forum. It's busy and I know why. Holy sh!t!! This place DELICIOUS. Legitimately the best crab cakes and short ribs that had ever entered my mouth. Every plate was licked cleaned. Short Ribs: I do not find short ribs special until now. The tenderness of the beef, caramelized onions, with the sauce...I want more. There's a balance of savory, sweetness and umami...this is exactly how it should be done. Crab cakes: lots of crab meat, perfect flavors, and light panko crust. Paired with a peppery arugula salad with an aioli spread. It's perfection. Honestly, both were perfection. I will definitely be back. This is my favorite North County spot after one visit. Got there late evening with no reservation. Was told a twenty minute wait and they took my phone number. (I expected a call) Sat at the bar for some wine. People kept coming over to ask if we were ready to order. We told the server that we were waiting for our reservation for indoors at a table. About four minutes later that same waiter came in and asked if we were ready to order. We again told him that we were waiting to dine inside at a table. Another server came again after 10 min and wanted to take our order. He immediately realized it was us waiting for our table. No one called so I went to the station and they said our table was ready. Apparently they had texted me. Too noisy and crowded to hear the text message notification. We could have been seated earlier. Got seated and as waiter brought menus. We ordered. I asked for extra couple anchovies for my Caesar salad. Food was good. When we got the bill, they had added $6 for the anchovies. Two things: 1) set expectations that i will receive a text. We waited too long and were starving. 2) If you're going to charge for a few anchovies, let me know ahead of time so i have the option to decline my request. No surprises. The food is already excellent--think Short Rib Potstickers that melt in your mouth, Scottish Salmon with quinoa and pomegranate glaze, or the Braised Short Rib with bourbon caramel and smashed potatoes. But Karl is what makes the night. He pays attention in a way you don't see often. I casually mentioned liking drinks less sweet--my next one came out perfectly adjusted without me asking. Every course landed at the right time, his recommendations were spot-on, and he managed to stay a step ahead all evening without ever hovering. For breakfast we ordered and enjoyed, the flower child scramble, egg sandwich, rocket coffee, PB&C smoothie, and matcha. Everything was spectacular! For dinner, I love their quinoa bowl. Came here on a Thursday. It was crowded. The wait was 40 minutes, not bad. Got drinks; Cosmopolitan and Old Fashion. Both were good. We sat down and we were greeted promptly by our server. We ordered the Brussel sprouts, but they were sold out. Also sold out of the pot stickers. We ended up getting the Brie toast I believe was the name. It was very good. We also got the braised short ribs, this was just okay . The mashed potatoes weren't soft and creamy. Slightly disappointed. I had a glass of the Cabernet. It was okay. The ambiance is very warm and inviting. Will be back to try the brussel sprouts and pot stickers. This location just opened so I think they're still suffering from being new. read more

The Henry is easily one of our favorite brunch spots. The ambiance is beautiful--warm and welcoming without feeling pretentious. It's the kind of place where you can relax and enjoy your time, whether it's a casual brunch or a special occasion. The times we've been here, the service has always been excellent. The servers are nice, attentive, and they check in regularly without being intrusive. The food is also excellent. My spouse is vegetarian and loves the Flower Child Scramble.
