My boyfriend has been going on how he recently rediscovered The Henry, which is now under new management. They have a daily Happy Hour from 2pm to 6pm and have 59 cents wings on the menu with lots of flavour options with a minimum 10 wing order per flavour plus a drink order. My boyfriend took me on a Sunday where the wing deal is on the entire day. He ordered the Cajun spice and I ordered the garlic parmesan plus the Honey garlic. They also have Lucky beer cans for $4 each during Happy Hour and my boyfriend ordered a few of those. The wings do take a little bit of time because they make them fresh but worth the wait! They are slightly breaded with a slight crunch on the outside but juicy inside. Size of the wings were pretty good and I loved both the Cajun spice and garlic parm flavours. Both my boyfriend and I agreed that the Cajun spice reminds us of the Shake 'n bake flavours but with a kick of spice. The Honey garlic was also decent but we enjoyed the garlic parm and Cajun spice the most. We also asked for a side of hot sauce, which they provided, and at no extra charge. I also ordered one of the Baja fish tacos to try for $7. The tortilla shell was overly crispy and there was too much slaw with runny mayo on top. It was average, probably would order something else next time. Large venue with a pool table at the back so I can see it being busy at night when it turns into a club, or if there was a game on to watch. Service was decent also. Great place for Happy Hour wings and beer. They had a lot more on their menu to try out, we saw quite a few tables order the burger and fries special for $16. read more

This place is dreadful. Horrible service. Lots of unavailable drinks on the menu. Waitress barely checked on our table - we ran out of water and it was a ridiculous wait time for food to arrive after ordering (45+ minutes). Food was plated incorrectly and was not hot when it came to the table. Chicken burger was tough. Fish filets were tough. They did offer to remake my plate but didn't want to wait another 45 minutes. We came early (around 5 pm) on a Friday and were surprised how busy the place was so early. They have a fantastic happy hour and had a function going on that day so it made sense. The place is fairly large and lively. We ordered Truffle Tater Tots (potato tater tots, Grana Padano cheese, truffle aioli dip). I loved the concept of truffle tots and they were ok but it irks me when the the truffle is just the dip (call it what they are -- tots with a truffle aioli). Also, they mix grano padano with the crap shaky shaky parm cheese (you know what I'm talking about, the stuff that is in the container and even thought its a "cheese", it doesn't need refrigeration). I then ordered the Marg Pizza (fior di latte, fresh basil leaves, house-made tomato sauce with in house hand stretch dough). Absolute disappointment. The pizza is basic as it is but it came burnt and the crust was inedible. I was shocked that then even served it. Typically I would send it back but they were swamped and we did not have time to wait. The waitress did ask how it was at the end of the meal and explained the situation. She immediately apologized and offered to remake it. We had to go so I declined and she did remove it from my bill. I was here a couple nights ago after being groped the last time I came here and I unfortunately got groped again I went and told the bouncers and they were being very rude and said that they dont have eyes everywhere or that they can't see everything that happens here and I felt very unwelcomed and uncomfortable, I then proceeded to walk out to try to find my friends and I couldn't find them so I had to go back in to search and I got groped yet again I don't think that the men that go there are the crowds you want to attract I will never go to this establishment again.i would not go here if I was another woman because out of the two times I have been here I've gotten groped 3 separate times read more

We celebrated our son's graduation here. Everything was good from the food, the ambience to all our servers. The place was awesome too. We loves everything and also their mini donuts was soo yummy too. Lastly, the cost was not bad too. We will definitely be back! read more

I genuinely loved this place! I'm surprised it only has 2 1/2 stars. The service was great and during happy hour the beer was 3$!!! THREE DOLLARS!! The food was tasty too, although I suppose it's true that it was nothing special - the burger I got did remind me somewhat of a fast food burger instead of a sit down restaurant burger, so I feel like if I came here all of the time I would eventually tire of it. But the arcade section was fun and there is also live music which is great. I would absolutely consider this a fun place to come and hang out and grab some food. Everyone was wearing plaid and cowboy hats which also made it better. Although I suppose that's the thing - it's better as a place to hang out as opposed to strictly a place to get really delicious food. read more

I was a bit surprised to see the yelp rating for The Henry. Its in a cute area of old downtown Cloverdale. Loved the decor and ambience inside. We had a great server last night! Very attentive! A few of us tried the dine out menu which was a Maple pork belly with spicy mustard, a calamari burger and a smores peanut butter brownie. The pork belly was delicious and had the right amount of sweet. The mustard it came with was not spicy and seemed like good old French's mustard! The calamari burger was different but very tasty. Just the right amount dill and the bun was so soft and fresh. Calamari was crunchy and perfectly cooked. The dessert was ok, not overly sweet but I was not a fan. Brownie too dry so perhaps overcooked? Either way I enjoyed my visit and will come back for happy hour! read more

A group of us went in Saturday night around 8 to celebrate a friends birthday. Boy, was that a mistake. The service we received was horrendous, and judging by the previous negative posts I can agree that this establishment is racist. Our server, blonde and tanned wearing 7 too many rings on her hand, completely ignored our table of 10 to the point where I had to walk up to the bar and speak to a male who was dressed like a manager but did not treat me as such. I politely asked him if we could order through him since our waitress was non-existent. He rudely pointed at her across the room and told me to ask her, and turned his back to me. We ordered through the tanned waitress with too many rings on her hand, and she asked us to square up our bills because she's clocking out. She asked us before we even received the food... Long story short, food came out and was worse than my girlfriend's cooking. The waitress that tended to us after(tall brunette with glasses) was exceptional. We wish we had her from the beginning. **This place is a dump and it shows. 11 o'clock came and it was empty. I remember 5 years ago this place used to be packed on Saturday nights. This building and its neighbourhood are so cool. Very large indoor area, and outdoor street patio seating. Service is VERY slow, and the menu / food is just ok. Cocktails are fun and taste really good, but take forever to make. If you are coming for a beer - this is the place to be. In Cloverdale near the Surrey Museum which is a great visit, is The Hank an honest and unpretentious pub. There are more varieties of beer than you can shake a stick at. We went for brunch: poached eggs on a mound of corn beef hash with salsa on the side for me. Chicken quesadillas for her. The Henry Cloverdale is a bit of a paradox. It is home to some of the best bartenders and some of the worst servers. Not to say all of the service is bad, it's not. I have had great service here and servers that act like they're doing me a favor by asking if I'd like another beer. The food is the same as other Joseph Richards bars, so usually tasty but not consistent and portions keep shrinking over the years. Good place for lunch or dinner and drinks through out the week but if you're over 25 avoid this place like the plague on a Friday or Saturday night. When it comes to Saturday breaky, I admit, I am about as hard to please as the monarchy. I may smile and say I enjoyed it, but I know inside that I have had better. Well, I can tell you for a fact, this is the best $4.00 or for that matter better than any $15.00 breakfast I have "ever" had!!!!! The chef totally nailed it! The eggs were nice large omega 3 with beautiful dark yellow yolks and were cooked perfect - sunny side up (not easy to do) and still hot when they came to the table, the spicey spuds are a work of art and the sausages I had were perfect. Even the portions ans presentation are better than anywhere I have been, and trust me, I get around.. This place is a total gem for breakfast... I wish I could give it 2 more stars. I know that restaurants prefer that we call directly when ordering a meal, but if they choose to be on Ubereats or SkipTheDishes, they should still honour their orders. Husband placed an order. Received confirmation. Arrived at this restaurant with "order is ready to be picked up" notification from the app. Turned away by worker (Sydney) with a shrug and told "deal with Ubereats, the order was cancelled". Nice. No wonder the ratings are so bad. Am actually kind of glad I didn't have to sample their food. Edit: I was kindly contacted by Morgan, on behalf of The JRG group. Had lunch here with 4 other people the other day. We originally sat at the front of the restaurant, but were forced to move because the 'tables' - they aren't your normal tables were placed so close together that 2 people could no seat themselves with a single guy seated at the next table. You also have zero leg room because these tables are tall, square and solid - not comfortable particularly with no space to squeeze in and out. We asked to be seated at a conventional table, so we were moved and it was fine. Then comes the waitress. I hope the Henry is listening because this young lady should not be in the business of service to paying customers. While she was friendly, she was extremely forgetful (to say it KINDLY) and downright lousy as a waitress - her name was Maddy T. She never told us her name, but I went to the trouble of finding out so I can burn her name to memory to ensure she never serves me again. Not sure I spelled it correctly but I'm sure you will know. She was not familiar with the menu and could not answer questions. She was also not able to describe the beer my friends were asking about. I ordered tea (non-drinker) and I did get tea, sugar and cream but nothing to stir with. The beer 2 people ordered was delivered to the wrong people and they noticed only after tasting it at which time it was uncomfortable to trade. The second beer we clarified who should get what and she said WE were wrong because each ordered the opposite. I don't think she even realized what she did! The entire time I was there, I was never given another tea or hot water. I asked for it 3 times and nothing arrived. She then tried to remove my cup and dish when I asked if I could get that hot water. One of our vehicles which was right out front was hit by someone who backed into it, and a nice fellow sitting at the window came over to tell us before they took off. One of my friends in her hurry to get up spilled her full beer all over the table. I asked twice for napkins as there were none at our table nor was there cutlery and again she did not arrive even after we told her a beer was spilled! When I asked again, she gave me her bar rag! Does this woman think I want to touch a nasty bar rag that did not look clean? It sat on the table because I wasn't about to touch it and it stayed there the ENTIRE time we did. I moved to a dry spot - but the sugar and cream cup was full of beer and I asked several times for new cream an sugar and never got it, so the extra hot water I finally got didnt do me any good ugh. We were there at 2:30pm, and the place was not very busy, and Maddy had a lot of time to lean on the bar talking to the other waitress, but her time would be better spent WRITING down things that escaped from her brain the moment we asked for them. Everyone at our table commented on her lack of ability, which takes away from a nice lunch we were trying to have with friends. I have had great service as well as bad service, but this is right up with the worst. The only reason I gave 3 stars and would even consider returning is because my food was good and the reports from my friends on the food also high praise. Now while I know that spilling beer is not a restaurants fault, don't most good waitresses just bring another in a case like this one and not bill for it? At other pubs, they do this and also ensure the non-drinkers are not ignored. That would go a long way to keeping a new customer which we all were. I can tell you my friend was too shy to ask about a spillage policy, but I know she was disappointed to see the charge on the bill because she is still talking about it. I'll give the Henry another try, but not if Maddy is serving. If I can't get around her, I'll be down the road at another spot. read more

Lunched here twice, the pulled pork was so salty I walked out of there a dress size bigger than when I came in. The next time I went I ordered a chicken taco - way better and reasonably priced. The salad and burgers ordered by my lunch mates got excellent reviews. The inside of this place is so comfortable and well laid out - love it. I will give it a few more shots and try different menu items just because it is so pleasant to sit and have lunch there. I have no idea what it is like at night because I am old, domesticated, and dealing with kids when other people are waiting in line at bars. read more

Been here twice, usually hang out in Vancouver, but when you feel like staying local, you wanna go somewhere nearby... You try to find something close. Well let me tell you, the henry is something else, the doormen were so racist its not even funny! There was a separate line-up for white people and a separate line-up for the brown folk. I've never felt racism and discrimination to this degree in my entire life. They were waiting until the brown people left the line/up, and we were at the front of the line for approximately 50 minutes, that's 10 minutes short of an hour, until they let a few people in, and of course they were of caucasian descent. If you actually read this, take it as a warning Cloverdale wants to stay a white dominated area, so if you're not white by birth, it's in your best interest to stay away. read more

I party around the world and have got to a few spots up here in BC. I really enjoyed The Henry Waitresses came and refilled us all night. DJ Yeppa was spinning that night and I enjoyed his mixes. I Find most places in BC play out of date music (with me from the states) He had some up to date music and was enjoyable. The place was a mix of people real nice. If I could give half a star, this would be a 3 1/2 star review. I like The Henry for the neighbourhood pub feel and the great service. The cheap weekend Brunches are good, solid food, and really, who can complain for the price! Benny's are good, yolk's cooked to perfection. The hollandaise was a little cheesy, but still tasty. I'm a big fan of the Rustic Veggie flatbread the Caesars. We've tried the perogies, the crispy fries, street tacos and chicken fingers. Enjoyed all of them. loved the food and service last time I was here. (It was brunch). This time around, came in and sat. It was quiet. Servers walked by several times. Bartender saw us (clear view and it was quiet) but never mentioned anything to the servers or bothered to even say hello. Not a single hi be right with you or even hello for over 10 minutes (again it's quiet in there). I've been to The Henry a few times now. The food and drinks are delish and def at an amazing price (esp for brunch). I mean $3 mimosas. Does it get any better? Yes! $8-10 brunch entrees. The only reason I took off one star is because of the service. They servers are polite but almost forget you're there.. esp when they have large parties to attend to. I know it's not their fault but everyone's there to eat, pay and get equal service in return. Just don't forget the rest of your customers.. and if you're really that overwhelmed, they shouldn't be attending to other tables alongside those large parties. Went here for a friend's birthday party. Had some scotch at a fair price, and some half decent food. It's a nice place on the louder side. Service was OK but not very attentive in some aspects. Go out for a smoke with some friends. When I return I get carded. They swipe my ID and ask to take a picture. I got out a lot and don't usually need to go through this process but no big deal. I then promptly get denied entry because my license has been expired for a few years!? I only know of one other establishment who swipes ID and takes a picture. They had no issue with my expired DL. I'm not driving. Without going into detail, it's very clear by looking at me that I'm not under the age of 19 anymore. In the years that my license expired, I guarantee I have not aged in reverse. The strangest part of all of this is any perceived risk they were worried about //has already been made//? I already bought and consumed alcohol. There were totally fine letting me pay for my bill. I go out to 19+ establishments all the time, nearly every weekend. This has never been an issue anywhere else. They all take the same risk and suffer the same consequences. Really not sure where management's head was on this one. Most asinine bar policy experience I have ever faced. I know I'm an outlier with an outdated license, but I would recommend thinking twice before you invite a group of people here. read more

Stopped in for some Sunday breakfast while in town visiting family. Great service. About a dozen choices that all sounded good. I had the Meat Lovers Omelette, which hit the spot. Others had the Benedict, House Special, Southwest Skillet, and all were happy with their choices. Will be back next time I'm in town. read more

So maddening. We arrived at 4:15 pm for an early dinner. The place was about 1/3 full so lots if free tables. I saw 3 waitresses as well as 3 people behind the bar plus whatever staff were in the kitchen. We were there a good 10 minutes and were not even offered water or given menus. There was a dirty table beside us and our table had 2 dirty. Glasses on it still. One waitress decided it was more important to clean the table next to ours rather than clean ours or even acknowledge that we were there. We finally got up and walked out after being ignored so long. Disappointing place. Our waitress kept forgetting our drinks, and when she did bring them it was at least 30 minutes after we asked. We ordered nachos with beef ($21.00!!!) and we were shocked by the extremely small dishes of sour cream and salsa! Seriously, so sad! We asked our waitress for more, and they charged us 1.00 x 2 more on top of our 21.00!!! And they gave us even less the second time! The dishes maybe had 3 tablespoons! I wish I took a picture, it was pathetic. Our table of people all laughed! Careless people working in the kitchen obviously! Won't be going back...over priced and crappy service about sums it up. As most people know this used to be the old strip club in Cloverdale, now its been renovated into a pretty nice looking public house. The menu is lacking. They claim they have "gluten free" options but as I discovered there was only one menu on the item that was listen as gluten free. And to add insult to injury that item wasn't even GF!!!! It was a barley and mushroom soup. Most celiacs know that barley is not GF. When I confronted the chef about this he tried to tell me it was gluten free barley, then he checked and discovered it wasn't. He said he was going to take it off the menu right away but when I went back a few weeks later, it was still on the menu. Hopefully they read this review and actually do something about the menu, the last thing they need is a law suit on their hands from making someone extremely ill. read more

Stopped into this place on the way to several other places in the area. We were both hungry and all I'd had was coffee for breakfast. Not wise for me when going into retail establishments. We were looking for parking to go to Retro Mod, and I happen to see a sign that said it had $4 breakfasts 'til 3pm on Saturdays. I instantly got a flashback to The Townhall in Coquitlam (which I could have sworn I wrote a review for, but can't find). That's because it IS just like that place. It's one of more than a few pub-like establishments owned by the Joseph Richard Group. They very much remind of the Donnelly Group. Blech. I generally don't knowingly go into corporate "Mcbars", but we were hungry, and since we don't really know the area, we figured we'd give it a shot. It was just after 1pm, on Saturday, prime time for brunching. There were maybe 4 tables occupied. Not busy at all. The options are pretty decent for $4 - a typical Benny but you only get one egg and a half English muffin and hash browns. You can order the other missing half for $3. Still a reasonable price. There's an omelet, and the typical eggs, 2 strips of bacon or sausage, hash browns and toast for $4. There were a couple other things, but I don't recall. My man got an omelet, and I got the regular ol' bacon and eggs deal. No Hollandaise. Yep, that's right, you read correctly. Why you ask, when this is what I ALWAYS do when going to a new place for brunch? Well, because I've been here before. In PoCo, at the above mentioned Townhall. It is a cookie cutter cut out of that place. Which is likely, (although I can't confirm as I haven't been) the same as all the other Townhall locations and public houses they own. They even have the same painted gold accents on wrought iron surrounding the raised section of the seating area. I don't recall the Hollandaise being that good at the Poco version of this. Same menu. Same kinda service. Same feel. Same music, same everything. The eggs were done slightly more than I asked for; the rye toast seemed like it was just regular whole wheat but I suspect it was just low quality bread; the hash browns were these nasty orange looking deep fried, universally diced cubes of potato. The exact opposite of what I call real hash browns. It was definitely a $4 breakfast. That being said, it was better than the last few breakfasts I've had at The Five Point on Main street in Vancouver. This is not a high standard, nor much of an endorsement, but it's half the cost of the same thing at Five Point. They also have brunch drink specials - Mimosas for $3. BUT they fall rather short in this category, as I'm pretty sure there is merely a splash of sparkling in that flute, the rest is juice. I prefer the opposite ratio. The Five Point has them beat for that, as well as any other place I've been for brunch 'cause they are not shy with the booze. The food was Ok for a $4 breakfast, honestly, you can't expect too much. The server was Ok. Will I go back? Meh, unlikely. I am not a fan of chains of restaurants/pubs and tend to avoid them. Great for Sunday brunch, 6$ South West Skillet is my go to and never disappoints. Well seasoned. Only gripe, two times now my female server has been morose and not on top of things at all. My friend and I both ordered tea, the girl brought out tea... but no sugar. Took ten minutes and I had to go ask another server to bring the sugar and take our order. Just a pet peeve, I hate when this happens. Very slow service but I still love the food and will go back. Apparently it turns into quite the rowdy bar at night so will have to check that out sometime. read more

Went here on a busy Friday night, staff were terrific- pleasant and approachable. We were a pretty big group and only had room to sit at the bar but they made us feel right at home. Food was very good, excellent selection of beers on tap. Prices were very reasonable. Reminded me of House Guest in Gastown without the attitude and expense. read more

Went here for the 1st time and the last time on March 26, 2019 got there just after 2:00pm it wasn't busy; there was 3 of us in our party. We sat down two servers walked by us we made eye contact smiled. They were not our server; our server came what felt like 10 minutes. Her name is Marrina we got that from the receipt; she didn't introduce herself. We ordered our drinks and water for all of us which took forever; we decided to order our meal when our drinks came; which we did. Our server took our order and we waited and waited and waited for our food. Looking for our server to get more drinks; we could not find her than we realized she is eating by the bar with 2 other servers. We tried to get her attention for more drinks and find out where our food is. Finally our food were brought out; wings were warm not hot; fish and chips were warm and chicken lettuce wrap was only enjoyable food we received. We can bet you that our food was sitting under the heating plate while she stuffed her face. The service at this location sucks; it's dark in the building; Servers are not friendly nor do they smile; when she approached us the 1st time she came took order left not a smile not a high how are you? how is your day so far......nothing. In my opinion if you are a server you have shit going on in your personal life leave it at home don't display it to us. If you are a server do you job you don't get paid to talk to fellow servers and ignore your customers. We work real hard for our cash we don't need poor service. I would not recommend this place to anybody nor would I go here ever again.
