The book that caught my eye on my first visit. Pretty cool.

I don't live in the neighborhood and was out on Mississippi for something completely unrelated, but once there - you can't really resist doing a walk about along the Mississippi shops. First time in this shop. My boyfriend and I were greeted when we came in and at first I wasn't sure where to look, exactly. I've been having some health problems lately, which is what more or less drew me to the store. I wanted some natural remedies. I described the situation to the woman working and she was completely knowledgeable and has some answers right away. It felt completely normal and okay to talk to a stranger and get some answers, which was awesome. I didn't get her name, but she had short hair. We chatted and we decided on a certain tea and seeds. My boyfriend got some sour honey sticks and I got a book. We talked throughout checkout about some of my pharmaceutical experiences and she pretty much knew exactly what I was upset about and shared some of her own story. That was really nice. I signed up for email newsletters because I feel like I trust this place now. She mentioned that if I feel like I need support or need more answers, to call or drop by. That made a huge impact. Huge. I'm drinking my tea right now and feeling content. I'm glad I stopped by Mississippi, just to uncover this shop. Which I will be going back to.

They then proceeded to be welcoming towards a white man who came in shortly after me. Every word out of her mouth was laced with passive aggression. It's honestly embarrassing that these people claim to be healers with such deeply discriminatory and disrespectful demeanors. Herbalism and spirituality is merely an aesthetic for them with none of the values that follow. Spiritual narcissists at best. If you enjoy your tea with an egregious side of pretension and want to walk out of there feeling like crap, this is the place for you. If not, I highly suggest going somewhere else. Don't be fooled by their bandaid responses to other instances like this and the one they will probably write to this one to keep their pockets lined $$$. They don't care, hence why this has occurred on multiple occasions. No amount of sage can cleanse this place. Not typically one to leave reviews, whether good or bad, but this experience was shocking. POC beware.

And yes, you pay for the quality. But did you know they also have awesome sales? I mean really incredible 50% off sales on highly desirable items! I'm on the mailing list for their weekly ads and when items I love - but don't buy often because of the price - go on sale for 50% off, I stock up. For example, this week all nutritional and protein bars are 50% off. That is a stellar sale since we all know that protein bars are at a premium everywhere. Their sale includes single bars - a great way to try first to see if you like the taste and texture - and on boxes. I'm a huge fan of RX Bars that have just three ingredients, getting their protein from egg whites and sometimes nuts. Typically $12.40 for a box of 5, the on sale price of $6.19 is a steal and a reason to buy several. Throughout the year they have 50% of Rao sauces, the best jar sauce in the market. Also sales on vitamins and lotions. Oh, and around February, 50% off chocolates including the high end brands. So while I shop there regularly for the high quality fish, meat and vibrant produce, I will make a special trip to stock up on my favorite items when the price is slashed in half.

Those Noodles and how they make them there are TOP NOTCH! I LOVE THEM! I mean I could marry them they are so good! There are so many pluses here and glad to have this in Concordia. The store has many great deals and good sales on things, but I have to urge you thats its a good idea to not sit in the eatery area that they just remodeled to make more open. The coffee stand there does okay, but is fantastic when this tall guy is there with a beard. But I have not seen him in a while. So the coffee drinks are okay, and vary from day to day. The Brewed coffee is good however. There is one thing I despise about this location, and its the amount of "extra Helpers" that seem to be right there waiting for you as you walk in. The Tamale lady outside is fine. What I find very uncomfortable is all the people that go there to bum money or always seem to want to ask you a question. The worst part? Some of them come into the area that use to be amazing to sit there, and honest to Abe, they smell worse then walking by the dumpsters. It's got better over the last year, but I noticed a real weird vibe today as I walked in and the large man who looks like a greeter seems to be blocking the entrance way into the store. It's starting to feel like Walmart or Fred Meyers where they have gates to go in and out of the store. Friendly? , I don't think so captain. Stark change from before, but it seems like this is needed more and more today as stores have to beef up security. I understand that there is not much New Season can do about this thanks to local politics in the area, but I WISH this was not the case as I use to enjoy going there for breakfast and coffee. Hopefully, things gets better in 2025.

You can watch them frying the roti in front of you, they have a great flavor (they're a bit on the thick side), and the curry is absolutely sublime, with an incredible depth of spices without being hot. I also really enjoyed the freshness and textural blend of the "rice salad," with great cucumbers and herbs, although it was too spicy for my dining companions. I admit I didn't think the fried chicken was anything special--the chicken was moist (even the white meat), but the outside could have been crunchier. But I'm not the biggest expert in fried chicken, nor in pad thai, and both were certainly competent even if not as exceptional. Sticky rice was also cooked perfectly.

An entire multi-page menu of herbal teas that includes historical information about how the different ingredients had been used by indigenous populations? Yes please! After wanting to visit Javelina for a long time I finally got the opportunity to a couple weeks ago. SO GOOD! I got the bison chili, some fry bread (of course! ), the three sisters salad, and some tea. The chili was SUPERB, and the fry bread was the perfect dipping accompaniment to it. The three sisters salad had such a good flavor balance, with the squash giving a perfect hint of sweetness against the other ingredients. I love herbal teas (my mom grew her own herbs and would make all different ones for us growing up), so it was such a delight to see the huge variety of in-house-made herbal teas available. I forget the name of the one I ended up picking (I think it was something like three tribes). It was great and exactly what I was looking for). The ambience in the restaurant has a lovely simplicity that feels like it suits it perfectly. I can't wait to come back and try their brunch some time. Fry bread was good but the toppings were lacking something, very little protein, a bit basic. Offered was a bottle of tapatío, was expecting more of a house made salsa or garnish, maybe I've become boujie. The taco took almost an hour to arrive to my table. Not sure if the waitress forgot about us or staff attending larger parties but it was a bit of a wait given that it was not busy, only had one waitress working. Table behind us got there orders within 15 minutes of ordering, so kind of perplexed about the wait. Luckily, the neighbor across the street was cutting his very dry grass so that was entertaining. The bannock cinnamon roll cup saved this visit, arrived in between eating my taco . It was delicious but needed a knife to tear it apart, had a lot of give.

They really shine on their produce, pasta and fresh meats here, and there's always something new, but I love that you can count on the bakery for your focaccia and other fresh breads. Cheese case is like Rue Cler, Paris--so much selection and they will tell you about each one of them. Don't be afraid to just ask a lot of questions. I wish that they did some little items in the bakery, one of my fondest memories from childhood was going to Pastaworks with my dad and getting a breadstick, probably eating it before we even paid (we did), as we strolled around, and where's the peanut sauce for pasta, another favorite of the old days, yup, I'm old.
