A friend took me to Hidden Kitchen for breakfast while I was visiting and I was super impressed. I really couldn't believe that the waffle was dairy and gluten free and so so fluffy. I love being able to order straight off a menu and not have to ask for modifications or substitutions. We both got the Avila Avo waffle (though the other ones looked super good) and I thought it was pretty much perfect! I loved the sauce and the tajin sprinkled on top, and the waffle was surprisingly light as well which was great. The only thing I would ask for differently next time is a slightly longer cook on the egg, as it was a little under for me. My friends and I came here as a group of 5 and we had been blown away by how amazing the food is! The way you order is from the front, and they give you a number while you find a seat. While you wait for your seat you can fill your water. The indoor seating is still unopen but there is a decent amount of outdoor seating. I can see this place getting busy and filling up quickly, but for us, we were able to get seated right away. They are also dog-friendly! As for the food, their blue corn waffles are AMAZING! My friend had been talking about this place and how good their waffles are, I did not realize until I tried this! We ordered a sweet and savory waffle to share while tasting our friend's waffles as well and I was impressed with how the waffle complimented both flavors so well. I am usually a big fan of sweet waffles, but I will say that their savory ones won my heart. We ordered the Morro Melt and the Fiscalini Fruit Blue Corn waffles to share. While one waffle may seem like it is not enough, they add a lot of toppings which makes 1 portion more than filling! The Morro Melt was amazing and something I would change about it is adding sunny side-up eggs to it next time. I think the cheese and turkey with the avocado were amazing, but adding an egg would elevate it. As for the Fiscalini Fruit Blue Corn waffle, I enjoyed how this tasted with strawberries and bananas. While it is pretty simple, I just loved their blue corn waffle! We also got a few bites of our friends San Luis Waffle (bacon, eggs, avocado, blue corn waffle with the sauce) and it was amazing! They gave a lot of bacon but it was so flavorful! I would get this one next time, or the one without bacon (Cayucous Cowboy). The waffle has a little sweet taste, but not as sweet as a normal waffle. Literally planning our next trip just to eat again at this place! Love love their Blue corn waffles and tacos! We got the Monterey mushroom waffle and santa Lucia scramble tacos and they were so flavorful and delicious. They mention that they slow cook their food so be prepared to wait a little bit for your food to arrive but it's really worth the wait! Like, no other breakfast food will matter to you once you eat this. You will feel shame about your own cooking forever after tasting this Picasso of food. Tacos come in these homemade blue corn tortillas that may have been harvested from a corn field immediately following my order. Gritty, real and soft. Fried egg. Either perfectly seasoned and sautéed veggies (onions, red peppers, mushrooms) or carnitas that fell directly from heaven or crisped to perfection bacon. Topped with avocado, a green salsa that tastes like it was driven across the border and this unicorn concoction called HK sauce which tastes like that secret creamy chipotle sauce that appears at every restaurant you've ever liked. The waffle is made from this same blue corn magic. It's soft and creamy and pillowy and gritty at the same time. Ours came with creamy melted havarti pooling in the waffle holes like little oases in a desert. On top was the sautéed veggies, avocado, and more sauces that are impossible to describe but will undoubtedly appear in my dreams for years to come. Smoothies - cocoa iced coffee one. Wow tastes like the milkshake you always wanted but won't make you fat. Also the ginger turmeric one which tastes like you will never get sick again / are in Hawaii sunbathing. This used to be a place called Skippers which we had gone to for years. COVID must have taken its toll. The good thing is this new place is terrific. I had the black bean bowl with carnitas and it was so flavorful and just the right amount alongside the smoothie. My parents had the blue corn waffle dishes (contain egg) and they enjoyed it even though they aren't gf. The food was on the pricer end of what we spent during the weekend on food but the quality makes up for it (also knowing I wouldn't get sick from cross contamination). Our takeout order was ready in about 25 minutes as predicted. We enjoyed our San Luis Sunrise and Cayucos Cowboy waffles at the beach and they were so well-rounded and filling.
