Amazing little gem on the central coast, I had to see what the buzz was all about! Tasty!

What a treat to get to eat here! Yes, they specialize in blue corn waffles but they offer them on a sweet or savory version. We tried their Monte Cristo and Weirdos Waffle and also the Plaskett Pork blue corn breakfast tacos along with a coffee and a chai tea. Everything was not only excellent in flavor and quantity but service was also always with a smile. The team there is top-notch, even on a super busy Saturday morning. While we all had to wait in line outside the restaurant, once the doors opened, everyone moved forward quickly and there was music to groove with as well as two pop-up vendors selling their handmade wares (tie-dye goods and knit/crochet things). After we finished, we walked around town for a bit and when we got back to our car (parked right in front of the restaurant), the line was still about 20 people deep outside, but people kept moving and more people kept lining up. We want to try more of the menu so we'll definitely be back. Oh and for it to be dedicated GF was something I don't take lightly. This is hands-down the best hidden gem in Cayucos. Their blue corn waffles are mouthwateringly delicious. You can order a savory or sweet waffle topped with everything you could ever want. Plus, it's made with blue corn so it isn't terribly unhealthy. My personal favorites are the Savory Avila Avo and the Sweet Fiscalini Fruit (ask for extra coconut whipped cream!), they will not disappoint! They have two locations in Cambria and Cayucos. The new Cayucos location is directly on the beach, so you can sit and watch the waves as you enjoy your brunch. Their beach, garden aesthetic on their outdoor patio makes it the perfect spot to get lost in a good book or collect your morning thoughts. The location, the food, and the ambience truly makes it one of my favorite brunch spots. read more

The thing they use for a tortilla in the tacos was tasteless. 7 dollar taco is probably worth 5 but you are the beach. If the waffles are made of the same stuff, it would be a hard pass. Wow! We stopped in while exploring Morro Bay and the surrounding area and they did not disappoint. We tried the Avila Avo and San Luis Surprise. The blue corn waffles had a slight hint of sweetness to them, but were more savory and fluffier than cornbread. Both were slathered in the HK sauce, which tasted like a spicy aioli or sriracha mayo. First, you order from an outside window and then go inside in hopes of finding a table inside or out on the patio. ( great ocean views) I ordered the SLO waffle. Blue corn waffle, HK sauce ( delicious) 2eggs, bacon ends and fresh avocado. I ordered over medium eggs. What I got was extremely over hard egg yolks and the whites were also way over cooked. Man I hate to complain but there was no way I was eating those eggs. I asked for 2 more. The girl didn't know the difference between OM eggs and sunny side up. I told her I wanted a runny egg but not SSU. What I got was 2 more eggs almost as hard as the first one and once again, over cooked egg whites. I didn't ask again. The bacon ends were also over cooked but still had some good flavor. My husband had the Monte Cristo which he enjoyed. He didn't like the coffee. My mimosa was pretty good. The pricing was so so. I got two different tacos. I loved that this was a 100% gluten free. They were both really good, but were hard to eat like a taco. I took a fork to it to enjoy it. We sat outside to enjoy the view. Wow. This place is definitely a "hidden kitchen" in a little beach town. COVID-19 precautions: you walk up a little window order and everyone is masked. They have outdoor seating in the back. They have signs on tables - green means the table has been sanitized and ready to use and red means it needs to be cleaned. Tables are spaced out 6 feet apart. FOOD: I am on a gluten-free diet and haven't eaten real waffles in years. Their blue corn waffles are GF and come in sweet and savory flavors. We got the Morro Melt & Fiscalini Fruit to split among 3 of us and it was so good. Writing this review makes me want to go back to buy every flavor in hopes to freeze them to savor for a later time... SMOOTHIES: Smoothies with real fruit, protein & not added sugars or fake stuff? Stunning beach views for breakfast or just coffee. We stopped here on our trip because we wanted a nice breakfast on the beach and some good coffee. The Hidden Kitchen did not disappoint. We found this place by driving down the back street behind the restaurant and saw their great patio. However, you order in the front of the restaurant on the street. So outside the restaurant. After ordering, you go inside the restaurant for your drinkware and then walk out to their back patio where the beach can be seen. We ordered coffee, they don't have lattes, just regular plain coffee or some other weird drinks. the mean is odd, its not what we were used to or even looking for. For example, the waffles were made with blue corn. Personally, I did not enjoy them at all. They have the most random food choices. I ordered the Weirdo which was the blue corn waffle, served with fried bananas, peanut butter & bacon. I was not prepared to have my bacon & peanut butter together. So be prepared for something unique. The view was stunning, the coffee is nice. But I will not be back, not my favorite place. It is quite busy with lots of people so be prepared to wait for a patio seat. read more

Located on the strip in downtown Cayucos... Yes we were out walking on the beach and decided to get a smoothie to share. The main entrance was closed for seating but a walk up window allowed for ordering and pick up. Now to be fair I'm not much of a healthy eating guy and the choices for a smoothie didn't speak to me so my friend ordered I'm sorry I don't know what our beverage was called It was presented in 16 ounce plastic cup over flowing with brown smoothie goodness and two plastic spoons. The concoction was unappealing, and overflowing is messy to say the least. If your going to overfill you're beverage for the wow appeal put it in a cup so the extra can be enjoyed. The mixture was a thick glutinous mess and frankly I was not impressed with the banana flavor. That will be nine dollars please...ya Ok. Now they also has waffles of various flavors and styles of toppings. I saw a couple of ladies sitting enjoying an avocado type of salad. So there is more here, my problem was that there was no seating one bench the avocado ladies were sharing...Ok It seems to me if you have a walk up window serve food the you can carry away and eat as you walk No fun food was offered, no cones of smoothie, no waffle cones, no imagination. The simplest waffle on the menu of blue corn and maple syrup is something of an experience. I picked it up just minutes ago and due to covid we can't sit in, regardless the experience is remarkable.
