Kind of awesome, especially when they serve crabs in the summer time. The Hideaway is my new favorite neighborhood bar. Chill and nice with good music, friendly service, and no attitude - I could come hang out all the time. What makes it even better is its crab dinner on Sundays and Mondays - so fun and so delicious! Yes, the crabs could be bigger and cheaper, but they are still seriously delicious... and the Hideaway equips you with awesome mallets, crab crackers, beer - all these great tools to just hack away at your crab and make a huge mess over old bay crab and a refreshing beer. It makes it all worth it. Great atmosphere + fun waitstaff + delicious crab = awesome neighborhood bar. read more

I came here for blue crab night. I will give them 3 stars because the service was good and they're like one of 3 places in NYC that prepares blue crabs correctly. However, as a Baltimorean, their jumbo crabs were more like mediums, and they were overcooked. I will take what I can get though, and come back. I love Old Bay. read more

Purpose of visit: Thursday night office happy hour. we arrived at this bar around 8ish after leaving another bar that was a bit too sterile for our taste. The atmosphere and vibe was upbeat. Conversations were lively and the crowd was a nice mixture between afterwork and neighbhorhood regulars. Drinks were strong and the food was quick and efficient. We had a bunch of sliders which was a good complement to the drinks. Definitely a contender for the location of our next happy hour. read more

Warning: there is no happy hour here but the plus side of that is the place is not jam packed and you can share a lovely drink and conversation with the company youre with. Get the truffle fries, half order is great for two people to nosh over, glass of wine is $11-$15 per glass read more

I went mainly for the Summer Sunday crab feast. This place is not too big because it's more of a bar/lounge. It'll be a challenge for large groups unless you go early. Still, we enjoyed the whole dining experience. The service was very attentive and great selection of beers. The crabs were not large, but that's how they are for the type they served. They were definitely good. Also, the shrimp and corn on the cob was a great pairing. read more

Writing this review on the subway home. It's all I can do to not get on subway across the platform and return to this gem. Aesthetically great and well-appointed, but I want to return for more of the amazing fish tacos and crab cake I had for dinner. Both were utterly amazing. This is our neighborhood place. They have great beers on tap and the music is good, great variety. The food is quite yummy, especially the pigs in a blanket appetizer. Some of the happy hour crowd can be a little snooty/pretentious, but it is in Tribeca so that's to be expected. The bartenders are mellow and are not into the over sell. Laughably pretentious. Been here a number of times and I'm just not a fan of the snootiness of the manager/owner type behind the bar. Drinks are way over priced, no happy hour that I'm aware of and the concept of a "buy-back" is completely lost on them. And forget about the wine pours if you're having a few with your entrée. I'm cool with a proper pour when it's our 1st or 2nd glass, but if as a couple we're well past that, it wouldn't kill you to fill the glass up a bit. Especially when my cost per glass is the same as your cost per bottle. I'm not asking for diner pours where it's up to the rim, but just pretend that you're running a bar. Also came here with about a ten person group once and the service was just lousy when the place was packed. And it wasn't like she was overwhelmed, she was just really bad. It's a shame I can only go as high as 1 star, because some of the items on the menu are just so delicious. I gave up meat for lent last year and ended up going here for the veggie burger, and it's the best out there. As annoying as these people are, the veggie burger is THE BEST. The hand-cut fries are great, as is the pork slider with those homemade pickles, and the deviled eggs are an interesting and yummy touch. But the attitude is so horrible I can't give this place more than the lone star. We must have hit this place for lunch about ten times for lunch, and we could never say anything bad about the food. Compliments to the chef, and whoever selected the items on the menu. However, aside from the above issues, the last WTF straw was when I tried to order a burger. The cheese choices were cheddar, gruyere and another I can't recall, but I just really was in the mood for American cheese. And yes I know that American cheese isn't really even a "cheese", it says "cheese food" on the label. I'm not even sure what that means folks. But I do know that it works with a burger. I've made more variations, tried tons of different types of spins on burgers at my BBQ's at my place and I'd like to think I know what I'm doing. And sometimes, probably because it works so well, you're just in the mood for a burger that's perfectly encased in that overly processed American cheese food. The way it melts so perfectly and then absolutely fuses to the bun - you guys know what I'm talking about. So anyway, sorry got a little carried away there, when I asked if they had American I got a laugh coupled with a degrading "we don't do that". How about next time, instead of being so dismissive because you just don't understand, how about instead of that you have an intelligent conversation about it? The more expensive items aren't always what works best. read more

This Tribeca bar is a great place to meet up since its lively but never overcrowded and near most major trains. The bartenders, music and mood are all kinda perfect: fun, upbeat, and great for conversation. Over the summer, I hosted two big friend gatherings here. Both times we closed the bar down and received excellent service all night long. Its definitely Tribeca comfort and Tribeca prices but well worth coming back for . . . and not just on Crab nights. read more

Sure, drinks are A little expensive for what this place is but it is a very good friendly neighborhood bar. Gets packed during blue crab season. I prefer the simple dishes such as the burger and or the quesadilla. Great kick to it. Staff is generally very good. Sometimes you may catch a shift by surprise when they are not staffed enough for the crowd. read more

I can forgive getting over-charged for bottle beer (it's Manhattan, I get it) but I don't forgive slow service. Get some better wait staff and maybe I'll give you another try. Until then I'm pretty sure I can find another place in NYC that sells overpriced beer and burgers. read more

We came here on a Sunday afternoon (around 2PM). The food was OK, the service was mediocre... From reading other reviews, guess you have to be a regular to get good service. Don't think we'll be back. I checked the menu online that same day, and both the Lunch menu (12-4PM) and the Current Specials menu feature deviled eggs. I didn't see the eggs on the menu and asked the waitress if they were available (thinking maybe I just missed them). She was curt and said "No, just this menu." OK, fine. We got the fish tacos (pretty good), the cole slaw (great), hand-cut fries (OK) and the buttermilk fried chicken biscuit. The chicken was maybe seared but not fried - or maybe fried, but not breaded - it tasted fine, but not your typical buttermilk fried chicken. Also, it wasn't on a biscuit. The service wasn't great. We were the only people at the restaurant (two of us), and the server sat by the bar with her back to us the whole time. At one time, I wanted more water. We called her over, but she didn't hear. My husband had to get up and walk over to her to ask for more water. When someone else came in (not a customer - maybe someone who works there, or he was delivering food), she was very chatty with him. She was very nice to us as we were leaving - guess she was more excited about our leaving than about our coming in. read more

As somebody who travels to Manhattan frequently, I'm always on the search for new places to eat lunch and dinner. I prefer smaller establishments, and saw this place around the corner from our offices, and figured I'd give it a try. I was very pleased with the quality of the food! The hamburger was cooked to perfection - it was delivered medium, just as I ordered it - and very tasty! The fresh-cut fries were out of this world, slightly crispy on the outside, and not overcooked! The bartender and lunch server, Christina, was very friendly and attentive, and the bar was very well stocked with a variety of liquors, wines, and beer. Five Stars!! TriBeCa has great restaurants who value and respect there customers, do not waste your time coming here. Rude! Wanted to like this place but had a terrible experience. Female bartender was incredibly rude when we ate here, we were thrown out of our table and told to stand after very expensive brunch because she needed to to turn the table. I live In the area and have felt spoilt by so many wonderful restaurants until now. I have never had such bad service in a restaurant before. Will never return to such an over priced place with bad service and such a rude waitress. read more

Everything was fine except for the trashy barmaid who snatched glasses and treated everyone like crap. Keep an eye out for the belly shirt and giant belly button ring. She has a really nasty attitude, and I wasn't surprised to see other reviews mention her as well. The owner made it clear that he didn't care about yelp reviews. When someone mentioned bad-yelping because of service, he cited the South Park episode about them. Honestly, with the abundance of good bars around, avoid this place. read more

Nice side street find for drinks and pub grub. Reasonably priced for lunch, with fresh sophisticated fare. Fish tacos were a generous portion with nicely seasoned greens (no side sauces needed). Bar tender was friendly, and the atmosphere nice. read more

This a finance bar. The crowd is very finance-oriented. It's ironic because the bartenders all have tattoos and look like hipsters. I've had a good time at this place. The drinks are solid and well-made. The bartenders have always had a bit of an attitude and that costs one star. Otherwise, good to grab a drink after work. read more

Hide from the hideaway!! Was drawn into the hideaway by their sign for fresh blue crabs with a table of 4. First ordered their peel and eat shrimp. Was surprised that for an order valued at $27 it only had 8 shrimp. Our group ordered burgers and jumbo blue crabs for dinner. The crabs were a little pricy @ $35 for 3 jumbo crabs- but don't mind the price if they know how to cook them. The crabs must have been sitting for several hours under a heat lamp because they were all dry. The claws were so dry you couldnt get the meat out. We told the waitress that we were unhappy with the crabs and then she got crabby! Have never experienced such a rude waitstaff in my life. The hideaway was a terrible experience!! read more

Although this bar was apparently started by some Dook graduates, it is a great spot to hang with good friends in Tribeca. Cozy, not pretentious, and very friendly staff led by the bartender Chris. Before or after grabbing dinner in Tribeca, make sure you swing by and enjoy a brew and some laughs. Will make it my "go to" bar down in Tribeca, as well as the Ear Inn. read more

This is probably long overdue, but I was recently asked by a friend about places to go whilst in the tribeca area and I had to break out a map to find this joint again. I stumbled upon The Hideaway one day while on my lunch break. I had been in town on a contract for a few weeks and was hoping to find some good pub food. Tired of the market a few blocks away and looking for a solid burger, I began my quest from 60 Hudson and turned down duane st. Lucky for me, I had chosen well and saw a sandwich board outside with something silly written on it and I liked that about the sign. Surely the person who wrote it must be inside and thus we entered. I spent my lunch hour munching on some solid bar food and sipping a pint in a nice, but small pub and I couldn't have felt better about my find. The burger was large, well cooked, with thick slices of bacon, a sharp cheddar slice, and a house made bbq sauce on the side. Of all the places I gave a go during my 6 weeks or so in NY, I recall this place most fondly. Any time I make my way back up to the area, I'll definitely pop back in. read more

One of the good spots in Tribeca. The staff is friendly and there's nothing bad about it. I go with neighborhood friends and it that sort of vibe except for when there are a lot of Citi employees in there since they work up the street. read more

Crab night! Love this place - food, ambiance ... They serve Maryland crab on Sunday and Monday might during crab season. Crabs were fresh and delicious ( and perfectly messy ) and we had a great time. Waitress was so friendly. She was also helpful in deciding what else to order and suggested we pace ourselves and add on later. read more

Was extremely disappointed. I ordered the shrimp. They were tasty but 6 small to medium sized shrimp for 24 dollars is pretty crazy. My friend had the crab and it was tasty and a good value. However, what would prevent me from returning is the frankly rude staff. Our waitress couldn't be bothered. When I asked if the number is shrimp was correct for the entree, she responded snidely, well this is tribecca. The bartender who brought over the food was equally rude. It really ruined the whole experience. read more

I went to The Hideaway for a friend's birthday on Thursday night. A great time was had by all. The food lived up to the hype...the grilled cheese was epic. It was laid back, good music, good service, decent beer selection. The bartenders, Chris and Kylie, were fun, attentive and were very accommodating to our very large party (to boot Kylie was nice to look at)...I will be coming back again. The only issue I have that with this great neighborhood bar was the visibly intoxicated woman at the end of the bar that appeared to be the manager...she spilled her wine on a friend of mine. Other than that...this bar had the food, music, staff and atmosphere that warrant my return. read more

Maybe it's because I prefer divey-er places, but nothing about the drinks here justify the prices. Most specials rely on classic flavor combinations and ingredient pairings. They're solid, and often worth having, but nothing to break your wallet over. read more

we were in search of somewhere we could pop in for a quick beer and came accross this place. The bartender was so friendly and explained all the specials to us, including the Maryland Crab special they have on Sundays and Mondays. We didnt actually have the crab, but the people next to us did and kept ordering, so it must have been amazing, and certainly looked amazing! We will definitely be back to try the crap special! We had truffle fries which were delicious, and a massive portion for a small. Beer was great, prices were great, service was great. Atmosphere a little sleepy, but we will be back! read more

Had incredibly bad service here, complained to waitress and was told that the manger wants customers out of the tables 30 mins after ordering and they don't care if we spend $100 on brunch! Because they have customers who spend $500 and they still get kicked out of their table, disgusting! read more

We love this place. It's got a great ambiance and both the food and the service were outstanding for such an unassuming little bar.

My boyfriend and I are regulars of the Hideaway in Seaport, big fans of the people who work there, have never been disappointed in food or drinks. I recently moved around the corner of the Hideaway TriBeCa, and normally we uber to seaport however yesterday we stopped into the TriBeCa location (for the first time) for drinks before Valentine's Day dinner. I do love the relaxed vibe, but unfortunately the rude service from one of the female bartenders (and horribly mixed drinks) made us leave. We have never been treated so poorly before, we will probably never go back. read more
