I went here on 4/20/26 it was one of the worst breakfast spots I've ever encountered and I've been to many breakfast places in the twin cities. We got seated almost immediately which is good and the waitress was nice but I didn't enjoy how pushy was being I understand you want to get people out of here quickly but it wasn't even busy and they definitely were not understaffed. The food on the other hand was definitely not good if I could give less than a star I would. I got a hot chocolate, a friend of mine got the Dubai latte, and my other friend got an orange juice that definitely wasn't fresh. The prices on the drinks were more expensive than Starbucks and smaller portions. My hot chocolate was water chocolate if anything, the Dubai latte tasted exactly like the hot chocolate, and the orange juice was far from fresh, not only that but the glass cups smelled unwashed and raw eggs. The food we got was two classic breakfast numbers 2 and the eggs "blackstone" benedict. The sausages were brunt and stiff, the pancakes tasted like tap water, and the eggs unseasoned and uncooked. The French toast definitely wasn't like anything I've tasted before and not in a good way. My friend said the poached eggs were overcooked and not runny at all, the bacon was brunt, and the hashbrowns were also burnt. The place overall is small and clean but I definitely will not be coming back, we ended up getting food poisoning after I definitely don't recommend. I was definitely trying to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt since the reviews were so high like the prices, I was definitely disappointed and this restaurant is a hidden gem for a reason please stay hidden. I don't mind spending money on food but the portions were small for the price and not good at all. I don't recommend eating here unless you don't know what to waste your money on. read more

This was our second visit and it was as good as the first which was amazing. Allie and Michael are fabulous and welcoming. We had the cinnamon roll this time, first time caramel roll-I can't decide which I liked better. The cream cheese frosting (chefs kiss) or the toasted pecans. It's like Sophie's Choice. For brekkie, we had the huevos divorciados and the cornbread Benedict. Both super yummy. Only critique is I would have split the cornbread in half and put one egg on each so the ratio of egg to bread was a little more equal. I was finally in the neighborhood. Christa took great care of me. I started out with fresh brewed iced tea, delicious and they have raw sugar at the table. The benedict was recommended. It has thick, cooked tomatoes in it that I can do without next time. The sauce, oh the sauce. Very light in color and you want to scrape every last drop. Hash browns were block shape and light on the inside crispy on the outside. Two handy unisex bathrooms. I think the theme here is hard rock. Only thing it doesn't really rouse the appetite in the morning. There are framed photos on the wall. One is a part of the 1977 album Aja by Steely Dan, which I am in possession of. I was noticing what the other diners were eating. One swears by the avocado toast dish. A kid had the silver dollar pancakes, which I would enjoy. I'll have to get over here in a couple of months. Going to the high hat is just the right vibe - every time. The insane record collection being played front to back by young artists taking turns choosing the vibe while they work. You sit in a room half surrounded by big windows letting beautiful natural light warm you and mini disco balls patterns dance on the walls. The other half of the restaurant sit in a hall of Jazz art collections hung on the walls in a Europe like style dining experience. The food and drinks are precise, consistent and topped off, a great group of people holdin it down Depending on the time of day and day of the week can effect how busy it is but never more than a 10-20 min wait. I went to High Hat for live music one recent evening, and absolutely loved the atmosphere! It was my first time there. It's nice and dark (blackout curtains) with candles on the tables, and such a great mellow vibe. The trio (Judi Vinar, Rick Carlson and Doug Haining) was outstanding, and I honestly felt like this is the music venue I've been waiting for. Another great Cathedral Hill brunch spot! Too bad it had to replace Bon Vie, but I'm really glad that there is an equally high-quality eatery open in this spot. We came in on an unseasonably hot October 1 and we were surprised that there was no wait at 9am. Things definitely filled up shortly after that, though, and I'd recommend preparing yourself for a wait, especially considering they don't take reservations. What used to be a bakery counter is now bar seating, so you might have luck sidling up there. But it's such a pleasant place to eat. The service was so friendly and REALLY fast. Seriously really really fast. We wound up being done with our meal quicker than anticipated because of that swift service, but our server made it very clear to us that we shouldn't feel rushed to leave at the end. Really outstanding with the service here. The food was very good. I went with the Cornbread Benedict, since I'm very interested in eggs benedict variations lately. This was legit; it was a single poached egg on a big slab of cornbread, all drenched in a unique, creamy sauce and tasty minced chorizo. The sweetness of the cornbread might throw some people but it's a good combination. It also came with very good hash browns, and fried plantains which were surprisingly sweet. My friend was very satisfied with her Classic Breakfast #2, demonstrating that they nail it on the classics as well as their originals. Great coffee, she also pointed out, which reminds me that there are some fun beverage choices on their menu like Espresso Cream Soda. Stopped in for lunch and had the best combo of service, ambiance, and tasty food. This is a Capital Hill GEM. Decor and turntable make it a standout. The server and owner were both so friendly and chatty that we felt really welcomed there. And the food. We shared the Migas, the Huevos Divorciados, and the corn pancakes. The portion sizes were all healthy sized but the two of us were hangry and we still took a lot home. Each dish was so good. The pancakes were maybe the best pancakes I've ever had. They also have a great happy hour menu and a solid dinner menu so we are excited to return and try more of the menu. Great small spot for a date or brunch with girlfriends, too! There was a moment that told me this place is run well, the only server was taking an order and I was low on coffee, I noticed someone who seemed like a manager type and wondered if he would come from behind the bar to pour coffee for me, and he did. Extremely delicious brunch, in a totally cool hipster venue, in the heart of beautiful, historical St. Paul. Service was friendly and all kinds of welcoming. Even the music was cool: they have a record player with rad old funkadelic-kinda records playing. I ordered The Migas and The Hulk. I was a little hesitant as a Mexican-American to order something Mexican off the menu, thinking I might be disappointed. Needless to say, I very much was not. The Migas rocks. The blue cornmeal cakes were all kinds of delightful, and my green matcha drink was heavenly to sip while looking out the window at the falling snow. The food was fantastic, the noise was unbearable. Food I would give it a 4+. I heard the Stephanie's on The Weekly Dish on MyTalk107.1 talk about the place this morning and thought, why not. Stephanie March commented on the egg dish on the menu called Migas. A great dish similar to Chilaquiles, but everything is all mixed together. Great flavor. Side of re-fried black beans, and 2 blue corn pancakes. Perfectly seasoned. I would go back tomorrow to have it again. Doll got their veggie omelet with a side salad, Doll loved it. The salad had a dressing of lime and cilantro, she loved it. What I didn't care for was the noise, the room has a metal ceiling which makes the noise level unbearable. They were also bussing the dirty dishes under the bar we were sitting at. The last thing I want to see / hear during my meal is dirty dishes being cleaned off and then clanking into the bin of dishes. I mention it to the owner, Michael Noyes, he agreed, but there are not many options in this small space. We will be back, this was our first visit. Food was really good. read more

Great Sunday brunch experience at High Hat! There is no parking lot so I did round the block a few times before figuring out which street spot I would take. There was a group of four of us with a reservation so we were seated promptly. I got a lavender tea that was served with honey (nice touch), tried the Funky Monkey which was good, The Hulk matcha and another got the Taylor Swift flight (three 4oz pours of various lattes). No one said anything bad about their drinks- I forgot to ask about the latter two so not sure if they're anything to write home about. I also got the Aloha parfait. A yogurt isn't usually something I'd order but it was a pleasant surprise. Half of a fresh papaya was peeled and inside of it, was Greek yogurt, berries, granola and a honey drizzle. I'm usually a savory breakfast fan but this dish has me changing my mind. I'd get it again! Another order at the table was the high hat hash and both said it was delicious- did have a hint of spice. Only downside is that service was very slow and it took us around two hours to have all of our drinks and food finished. Very good menu with options to please all palates and good breakfast coffee/drink options. I'll be back! read more
