The holiday menu eggnog French toast recipe has been changed drastically from last year. One person who had this all the time last year had it once and didn't bother eating it again. This place feels like a big diner. Service, I wouldn't say was slow but It didn't feel like they really were trying to get our food to us. They got my French toast wrong I ordered a cinnamon toast French toast and not the banana French toast. They also over cooked the eggs a smidge. It wasn't a terrible experience. I still enjoys my meal overall. The tomatillo chicken bowl was watery, and flavorless (except for the guacamole and black beans), I would skip that next time. The yogurt and granola bowl look really pretty, but is deceiving because underneath the layer of yogurt and granola is a whole bunch of pineapple... service was fine, and food was also fine. I generally love Original Pancake House, and the Roseville location was no different. Whenever I go to a restaurant, I always try to order what they're known for, and you can't go wrong with their pancakes! The pumpkin pancakes are my favorite, and I try to sub their original pancakes wherever I can. However, I'm also a huge savory gal so I usually get an egg dish as well. This time I tried the Chipotle Benedict with shredded chicken. The hollandaise sauce and the eggs were perfect, but there wasn't any "Chipotle" flavor at all. I think it was just labeled that but I didn't notice any of the flavor that the name would describe. The shredded chicken was also pretty dry and I didn't feel like finishing it. I did get hashbrowns on the side which were a bit unsalted - I ended up adding more salt, and then they were perfect! I did still give the restaurant 4 stars because the place is clean and well kept and the staff - especially our server - was extremely friendly. The food also came out quick. Overall I would definitely go here again, but maybe stick to the pancakes or their other sweet dishes. read more

The server was pleasant, the booth was very uncomfortable and the food was awful. The Original Pancake House in Edina is the exact opposite in every way. How could that be given that they both were part of the OPH franchise? The manager in Maple Grove explained that their food preparation differs from the process in Edina. My dining partner said the food was probably the worst he'd ever had. The takeaway...don't assume consistency in the OPH franchise and it's worth the effort to drive to the Edina OPH. read more

Good all around breakfast spot. I love the pancakes and I cannot say enough about the Dutch Garden. It is a Dutch Pancake loaded with veggies and cheese. It is delicious and it is big! Another favorite of mine is the Apple Pancake. It is huge and great to share as a dessert with the table. Also worth mentioning is the Corned Beef Hash, it doesn't disappoint. A couple of small issues that I have with this OPH is the long wait to get a table. You can go online and get in the queue ahead of time so this does help but we did still wait once we arrived. Make sure you check in when get there. I have to stress just how busy this location is. A few more servers would go a long way to help turn the tables. We had to wait a while for the check. This is probably one of my favorite breakfast spots in the area even if it's a franchise! I've been here a number of times and overall it's been consistently good. The space is overall nice/clean but it can get pretty loud. They also have patio seating which I haven't tried but planing to in the future. I like how they have fresh orange juice. The thick-cut bacon and the hash browns are a must! For the pancakes, the chocolate chip pancakes are supreme in my book! I would recommend trying the specialty German pancake/Dutch baby pancake at least once if you're interested and got the time to wait for it. I tried the Apple Pancake and it was kinda like a gooey cinnamon bun that's also eggy. It was very delicious and sweet! It can definitely can be shared amount 3-4 people. I would definitely recommend making a reservation in advance if you're coming here on the weekend- you usually don't have to wait was long. My main reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is because sometimes even with a reservation you have to wait 10-15 min if it's busy. I also think the service at times were slow. T by is is a good place to meet an old friend for breakfast. The service was fantastic and you get your monies worth in serving sizes. Plenty of seats to fill in here and it can feel sort of crowded. I suggest you make a reservation when you go. One thing I learned over the years is that when the menu is huge the quality is little. I had the steak and eggs and it was perfect. We had a side of bacon and it was good. My wife had an omelet and it was okay. It tasted alright and it was huge, but I felt it was lacking some flavor. OPH is *the* breakfast brunch spot in my book. Oh how I love this place - big bright setting, fireplace in the center, lots of seating. There is no skimping on the maple syrup, powdered sugar, whipped butter, lemons - you name the condiment, they've got it! We ordered the Dutch baby German pancake, salmon scrambler and northwoods hashbrowns. Everything was perfectly cooked, large portions and tasted delicious. Quality AND quantity were definitely highlighted in these dishes. My only reason for taking away 1 star is the wait time, as often expressed in other reviews. Between ordering and receiving our food, we waited 25 minutes. So arrive before you're hangry or famished or else you'll be pretty frustrated by the wait. read more

Five of us met for a family breakfast today, Memorial Day. We were seated around 9:30. None of the servers had name tags and ours never gave us his name. It was a series of unfortunate events, today was our first visit and will be our last. My mom ordered another syrup, it never came. This Part I maybe can't fault OPH but....falls in line for the rest of the experience. My mom put her syrup covered left overs in a box... when she got in my truck she set it on the dash... I now had a syrup spot on the dash. Wasn't noticed before moving the box around there is now syrup on the seat, the floor and both her pant legs....wonderful. I ordered the Tomatillo Chicken Bowl. I had taken pics of the menu description before realizing I would need it for this yelp. It clearly states my bowl will be topped w guacamole. It wasn't topped but @ the bottom of the bowl. And... guac isn't pico de Gallo... which was what came in my bowl. So I spend 10 minutes fishing out the tomatoes & onions. As I ponder who made these menus and doesn't know the difference? Then I came to the thought: maybe someone in the kitchen doesn't know the difference? Any way the error comes from it was not the desired or printed ingredient I had hoped for. We finished our meals, continued to sit at the table and have conversation... common restaurant experience, no? My mom had drove 150 miles o see her kids, have a meal with them. I didn't notice the tables around us being turned. I went to the restroom and when I returned I was informed "the woman just came over and told us to leave. What? I was told she said "I've tried to let you stay here as long as possible, we have an hour and a half wait." My brother asked "you want us to leave?" She replied "I'd appreciate that." I understand it was a holiday & they were one of the only places open but... WOW!!! That's how you treat customers, customers who just dropped $100 on a meal? Wow!! I didn't pay attention if our surrounding tables that hadn't turned were done w their meals or had tabbed out but.... There were several issues with our visit, so being asked to leave was the final straw. We left and we won't be back ...won't be back to have more meals that don't come out as stated on the menu. It was busy holiday Monday morning; I don't know if that's a normal Monday morning or if it's the fact they were one of the only open establishments open. I came here a couple of times within a month, and it's a perfectly good version of this type of restaurant. The pancakes are normal pancakes. The Meat Lover's Omelette I had was big and fluffy, and I didn't finish it just because I got so full from the pancakes and all that meat & cheese & egg. It was cool. The Eggs Benedict I got were very average, and came with potato pancakes. I was curious about what those would be like. They are more like the beloved, tragically discontinued Arby's Potato Cakes than anything I'd put syrup on. I would have preferred either regular pancakes or hash browns. I've been coming to OPH for many years and today's service was by far the best I've had. Arrived at the restaurant around 11am, was placed on the waitlist with a 30-40 minute wait for a party of four. We ended up being seated closer to noon. Our server, Fallon, was absolutely incredible! She was quick to refill our drinks, checked in regularly to make sure our dining experience was stellar, and offered to give us to-go cups for our coffee (while also topping us off with fresh Joe for our to-go coffees!). Located in a small strip mall, the interior of the Roseville location is surprisingly large. There's a ginormous waiting area in the front which is perfect for those busy times especially if you are traveling with kids (lots of room to walk around while you wait). Once seated, there are many sections such as a bar, an area by a fireplace and other varying nooks and crannies. It also looks like there is a patio for the warmer months but it was closed due to it being April when I visited. The service and speed is phenomenal and there is a wide range of breakfast options outside of pancakes including crepes, soufflés and waffles. I adore the coffee mugs served and quality of food. I am rating this a 4 because it doesn't hit that speciality unique breakfast spot considering there are other locations in the Twin Cities. Yes yes yes. This is a must go to spot. Me and my boyfriend love coming here and always reserve a spot prior to coming as this is a popular reaturant. I love the hot chocolate here. It not only comes in a super cute mug with delicious whip cream bit it's a decent size as well. Additionally I need gluten free food and love the options for pancakes. They even use a different color plate for the gluten free food so it doesn't get mixed up. The inside is very pretty, but slightly packed when it's full due to what I'd consider rather close seating. another bad take out order. ordered dutch baby strawberry banana and all the strawberry banana was missed. ordered a veggie omelette that had to be cooked at home because it was so undercooked, liquid egg was coming from the inside. The toast that was a part of the order was also missing. the 3 orders of bacon were baked to a crip and we did not ask for extra crispy or even crispy. We called and got a refund for the omelette and dutch baby. For a 100+ order, having the basics of what is ordered are basic expectations. At least the french toast for the kids were fine. read more

I'm from AZ, visiting in laws with my husband and toddler son. When we landed, a friend took us to the Original Pancake House in Edina and it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Today is my son's 2nd birthday. He was born 14 weeks premature and he's lucky to be here today. It has been a long journey. He is our only child, the only grandchild on both sides, and he's our miracle. This is the first time he's been able to get on a plane to see his paternal family. So, today was obviously VERY special and important for us. We were so impressed with our first visit to the Edina location that we decided to do a birthday brunch with his aunt at the Original Pancake House in Roseville. There were 4 of us (3 adults plus my son). The wait was reasonable for a Sunday mid-morning rush (30-45 minutes). However, then spending TWO HOURS at a table was incredibly unacceptable. Our waitress disappeared for large chunks of time. Almost never checked in with us, so we had no idea if or when food or drinks would come. We had to ask for refills on coffee and water multiple times (many of which we never got). Some of the food also never came (but was on the bill). The manager was very nice and interested in the challenges when she realized there were issues at the end (I'm not generally a complainer but the waitress had to go to her about a refund for food we never got and she asked me if we had had an issue). The waitress was a nice young lady but just did not appear competent as a waitress. Perhaps she normally is and had something going on, I don't know - but it was terrible. By the latter half of the visit, we were taking turns carrying my toddler around outside to avoid disrupting other patrons... we were approaching a screaming meltdown. My son is very good natured, most toddlers would have gone psycho an hour earlier. Now three of us are sore from carrying him around bouncing him and he is very cranky from being restrained for over 3 hours (drive plus wait plus over 2 hours at the table). Our other birthday plans are ruined, and I am ~$90 poorer. Only $90 because I left a $0 tip and the food we never received did get eventually taken off our bill. I was a waitress for a while; it's a heck of a job and it can be a nightmare during breakfast rush!!! I'm not some crazy unreasonable Karen who expects platinum service during peak rush. But I do expect more than one coffee refill in 2 hours. The waitress didn't have that many tables and her other tables around us also had poor service. Other waitress's tables were seated, ate, and left before we got a drink refill. Wish I were joking. The food arrived warm (unfortunately we didn't all get to eat it warm because we were taking turns carrying the toddler to avoid a meltdown - but it DID all arrive hot/fresh). It was near complete perfection, which is very impressive of the kitchen during a rush like that! Various pancakes and french toast were amazing. The eggs Benedict were not poached, the yolks were over hard - everything else was literally perfect! The birthday pancake with whipped cream and sprinkles and a real candle was SO SUPER CUTE! My son also liked the chocolate chips they gave him, that was nice. Unfortunately the service was terrible. I left a $0 tip on a ~$90 bill (normally I'm a minimum 20% tipper even for iffy service).
