Keep Driving. Don't Stop. No offense but the food is not good. Customer Service is non existent. Bartender is rude without reason. Owner Tina aka "Terrible Tina" (according to the sign at the bar) acts as if her customers do not matter. We waited an hour and half nearly 2 for burnt pizza, a wilted salad, uncooked wings and 2 frozen flash friend "chicken strips." Quality food should be served for the price we paid. Although it's the only spot open after 5pm, you're better off eating at your campsite, or driving 30-40 min into town for food. read more

After reading repeated negative reviews we weren't sure we wanted to eat here so we ate elsewhere before meeting friends for drinks. Look it's not a 5 star fine dining experience. Our waiter was acceptable. Not overly friendly but he seemed to be the only one on the patio, wasn't using a note pad and managed to bring everything that was ordered....minus 1 beer that he quickly returned with. The food was your usual bar fare. Cheese curds, fried mashed potatoes called Tina's Pillows, wings, pizza were ordered at our table and not a complaint from the bunch. Everything was cooked well and had great flavor. The wine tasted like it had either been opened for a long time or out of a box and came in a flimsy plastic cup. That was the only complaint we had. The vibe was nothing short of a fantastic time with karaoke/live music in the main bar area, fun covered wagon tables on the back patio and on Thursday nights they set up the corral and have bull riding for professionals who need practice, steer riding for amateurs....yes even you can sign up to ride!...and mutton busting for 4-6 year olds. Sitting at the bar having a beer, and another customer asks the bartender (maybe the owner?) if he can bring his dog onto the patio. The male bartender says no, which is understandable, but he made no attempt to be friendly about it. So that customer wants his burger to-go now. Then the customer asks if he can get a soda to-go as well. The bartender says no, and starts taking about liquor laws in AZ. I'm confused, the customer is confused. Customer tries to clarify that he doesn't want alcohol, he just wants a Coca Cola to-go. The bartender proceeds to talk about liquor licenses, and then tells the customer to leave. It was so weird, and so unnecessarily rude, I got up and walked out as well. It sucks, because this is a really cool place. I don't recommend this place for anyone like me who is traveling on vacation and has a pet that can't be left in the car. They will not allow you to have your animal at the outside area even. While I can certainly understand it, I couldn't understand why the man at the bar (owner? Drinking beer and on his phone) couldn't have been nice or even professional when he told me they couldn't allow dogs. It was over 100 degrees at noon, I'd driven out from Phoenix cuz I heard about this place where people come riding up on their horses. There were all of 3 people eating there. How is this waitress still employed? By the way she was screaming and throwing obscenities around, you could tell this wasn't her first rodeo of abusing customers. This spot has a cool fun atmosphere, they have live bands and also bull riding on specific nights. I would have to say the food was sub par and even though the broaster potatoes were amazing the chicken and wings were good but not that great. Allot of people I know love the chicken and wings broaster style but I'm not that huge of a fan even though as I said it was still good. Went in around 6 pm on a Friday night. Live music was playing and the inside was pretty busy. Was completely ignored, and when I finally got the attention of a man who worked there(more acted like an owner. Had an accent), just did a "wave" of the hand and said "go find a place outside". I was alone and treated bottom barrel. Wings were subpar. Ordered their special wings, a side salad and a Diet Coke. Diet Coke came in a plastic cup with ice, and definitely not a full coke. Forgot my side salad which I had to reorder and I asked for a refill on the Diet Coke. He then asked me for my cup that was still about 1/4 full, so feeling pressured I finished it and gave him my empty cup. He returned. Well guess what...when the bill came. $3 each for each Diet Coke!!! No refills, and when I asked about the bill he waved it off again. A fellow customer came out to smoke and had a side convo with the same man that had been serving me. After their convo, the lady and I started to chat how we weren't impressed how we were being treated. Then, went on with casual conversation. Great burger (a thick patty cooked to perfection on a great-tasting sesame seed bun), but I would not go out-of-my way to go back. No Sir. I ordered the Green Chile burger and their small green chile slice was W-E-A-K...not hot and no flavor at all. I ordered and paid for "seasoned fried" for a $1 more, but did not get them. I was surprised by no refills on my soft drink; another $3 for a small glass of Diet RC. I was surprised the waitress made a point of assigning "numbers" to the four couples at my table, instead of simply asking us our names in a personable or friendly manner. We were guest number Five. Ha Ha My wife ordered a grilled-chicken sandwich, but one of the other waitstaff gave it to a lady across the table from us. By the time anyone realized it, the other lady had already started to dress and eat it. The waitress was attempting to take the half-eaten grilled chicken sandwich from the other lady; who does that? We were so hungry, we just told the waitress to give us the burger that the other lady had ordered. No reparations or apologies from the staff. We've been there 4-5 x now where the place is hopping and they suddenly shut down the music, and then the lights up brighter. It's happened at 11 pm, 10 pm, and tonight at 8:30 pm!!! It's a Thursday night!! Earlier, around 8:15 pm, outside, the announcer was saying to the audience, "you're all acting like it's a Sunday night, and tomorrow morning is Monday, the start of the week -- but, tomorrow is Friday, so let's have a good time!!!" While visiting the area, prior to actually relocating, I was pleasantly surprised when friends said this place is a "MUST" and arriving to what I could call a VERY thriving establishment for a Sunday evening In AJ! The horses "parked" outside had me, immediately. But this place is decorated to the boot in a dive Western theme. It is AWESOME! Don't expect this to be your inner-city or Scottsdale affair. This place is absolutely going to be a regular because what I walked into was an awesome world nestled towards the base of the Superstitions, and it did not disappoint! There was a live band, and they sounded great! So, not only are there patrons socializing comfortably (because the music is at a perfect level) so you can actually hear the person next to you, but there is also a lovely group (MANY) on the dance floor going to town, gettin down & easily forming into a social line dance. It seriously makes you want to forget finding & table & hop right in! So- yeah, I was totally shocked HOW busy it was for a Sunday evening! Not really a single table open. Seats, yes, for one or two, but lucky we caught a table back in the outdoor section! Because there is absolutely nothing more comfortable & gorgeous than Arizona sunset/dusk, enjoying it in 70 degrees w/ good company, food & drink. I was told anything offered broached is a selection you won't soon forget or regret- TOTAL truth! I was also told their wings are simply amazing. Also- TOTAL truth! I mean, I am actually pretty stoked to come back & try a lot more after being totally blown away with the wings I ordered! They are cooked to pure perfection. Disappointing experience. I'm not familiar with the area. My friend and I were hungry after a day of hiking and I relied on yelp reviews for choosing a restaurant. The atmosphere was fun. Has an old west vibe and huge outdoor area. That was the only positive. Our server was unknowledgeable. In his defense, he admitted that he was new. But he really knew nothing about the menu. Based on the positive reviews, we both ordered pizza. I asked for mine plain and my friend got a topping on hers. The weird thing is, they both came out looking like totally different types of pizza. Hers had a normal style crust and mine was thick, almost like biscuit dough. Mine also had almost no sauce on it and way too much tasteless cheese. I asked for a side of sauce, which I was given. But it was ice cold. My friend said her pizza was fine, but nothing she would ever need to eat again. We also ordered a side of french fries, which you'd think would be impossible to mess up. Wrong! Seeing the high percentage of negative reviews for this place I wanted to go in with an open mind and look for the positives and give credit where credit is due. I live in AJ and have found that a lot of places in town are treated unfairly by pretentious out-of-towners who have this impression of locals all being "toothless", or whatever. I like the fact that the Hitching Post is out in the boonies, not in a strip mall or some over-hyped chain theme restaurant. There are several "old west" themed restaurants in the Phoenix area and most of them are mega-touristy, overcrowded and over-priced. This place seems more laid back and at least off-season it could be a nice place for locals to get away from city life for a few hours. I had a taste for a hamburger and I am totally dismayed that there isn't one small simple local hamburger stand in the entire area, only the usual fast food chains or bars that happen to serve burgers. There is no place to go just to have a real, non-fast-food burger with no frills or "theme" to it. The Hitching Post has burgers and I had a plain one with the usual lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle with mustard and ketchup on the side. I suspect the meat patty is one of those Costco-type frozen ones that they throw on the grill for a minute; it had no distinct flavor and was relatively dense and tough. The bun was just shy of being too dry to serve and the other things were pure routine. The problem with it was that the burger and a handful of fries were about ten bucks, and it wasn't worth it. This review could go on but I'll cut to the chase - overall I would probably have rated this place a 4 based on food and ambience (which in this case go hand-in-hand) but what dropped it like a lead balloon was my server Rachel, an individual in dire need of diversity and sensitivity training. I'm surprised any restaurant owner would put her in a people-facing position. I'm not very thin-skinned and it's pretty rare that someone makes me feel like she did, but she is 100% of the reason I won't be back to the Hitching Post. read more

I belied up to the bar noticing they were understaffed and in the weeds. The owner Tina told me that I could not order from the bar and to sit down and wait for a waitress. There were atleast 3 tables all waiting to pay and more waiting to order. I said that I didn't think we'd stay and she said "good, go ahead and leave". Fortunately for her business our waitress had already arrived at our table and my husband ordered so we stayed. But THE FAMOUS WINGS I ordered we're given to another table. Bad service, super high priceses and make sure to pay in cash if you want to save money. When I asked Tina about her success later she proceeded to tell me she doesn't need our business! I asked if their onion rings were hand made, guy said "yes". It cost me $11 to find out they are frozen just like most everywhere. $11 for 6 crappy, greasy onion rings. Stopped in here for lunch and everything was great. We got the wings and they were some of the best we've had. My son got a cheeseburger & fries and it was very tasty. The adult beverages were very good too. Service was great. They have a really cute/pretty outdoor patio area that will be nice for the fall & winter.
