This great good snd service. $35.00 rib eye steak done perfectly medium rare with a chimichanga sauce. 17th century house. One room was set aside for the 10 of us. However there was a nursery school group screaming next to us The staff knew it would be a problem and once a table for ten became available they moved us. We didn't ask , they took the initiative. We came here for an early dinner on a Saturday (about 5:30) We were promptly seated and gave our drink orders which came to us quickly. Then we placed our order. The salad for our friend was delivered but our appetizer was forgotten. The waitress did apologize to us for missing it and she canceled the order for us. Then, we waited a long time before our meal was served. The fish and chips (sweet potato fries substituted for the chips) for my daughter and me was...okay...but nothing really special. My wife's veggie burger was...okay. I have to say we were underwhelmed by the food and the service. The food just did not blow me away. And there is virtually nothing here for anyone who is vegetarian. My daughter had the Chocolate Lovin' Spoonful cake, but again, nothing really special. The decor of the building is beautiful with much of the flooring, ceilings and wainscoting dating back more than two centuries. However, I just can't see myself making a return visit here. read more

I have always loved the Hoffman House. Their outdoor dining is perfect, and for the cooler months inside dining is warm and friendly. The food is always great and the prices right. The staff is always super friendly. My high school classmates, 7 of us, went yesterday 10/14 and we were seated in the garden area. Our food was wonderful and the dessert was great. Our waitress was amazing and very accommodating even taking our picture. The only negative were the bees buzzing around!!! Thank you for your professionalism. Went for dinner on a cold night. Was pleased to be seated across from the fireplace. Provided a nice ambience and warmth from the tavern door being constantly open with other patrons arriving. Our server was very friendly and accommodating, however was not timely. Seems he disappeared often and we were visited by a young lad offering water refills. Our requests were made through him to our missing server. The dinners arrived after some time of waiting and were fresh, hot and delicious. We ordered the angel hair pasta for the toddler which was a huge adult portion for about $10. No meat, just a red sauce, I thought was overpriced and oversized for a child's meal. We paired our meals with the beer menu which complimented the food. It was an average experience and we made the best of the visit by enjoying the positives. I'm really really glad we tried this place out! It was recommended by work colleagues who live in the area and I am so glad that I didn't miss out. We parked in the back parking lot and upon walking to the back we were greeted by the staff and warmly guided in. Once in even more staff gave us a warm welcome. Everyone was super friendly and had cool facts to share about the history of the building, they even encouraged us to take a look around and snap some pictures. Ok... on to the food. So we were told that the steak sandwiches and philly were the things to get and they were right. We all loved the sandwiches and even more so for me I loved the curly fries... I am a curly fry freak lol. Everything was excellent!!! I will warn you that they use a lot of garlic and your friends might not want to smell your breath after. Decided to eat at this historic building based on Yelp reviews. First, building could use some cleaning. Historic or not the cob webs could be cleaned and a little paint won't hurt. I had the steak au poivre and it was delicious. The meal was served with salad, bread (not assorted, but a soft fresh sour dough like bread) and a twice baked potato. Then, for dessert I had butterfinger creme brûlée. That was delicious as well and unique. My husband chose the chicken piccata. He said his meal was good. We ordered bacon wrapped scallops for appetizer but never received them because the server forgot to put order in. All in all this place has decent food and could be a hidden gem if they would only put a little bit of effort into sprucing up and cleaning up the interior of the restaurant. read more

It was a dark damp night so being seated by the fireplace was super awesome! The spicy shrimp linguine ( it think it was a special) good, steak was cooked to order with an amazing sauce, it think it was the maderia. I had a very filling French onion soup and helped my kid with her salad and pasta. It was rather late and there were not too many people around so I snooped through the rooms of this historic house. Great american sit down restaurant. The house is one of many old stone houses in the city. The first house on this land goes back to the 17th century and the current place was well known as a blacksmith shop in the 18th and 19th centuries. Food and service are wonderful. There is a great ambiance here and though it isn't awfully huge, it makes the establishment more intimate. I reccomend the garlic steak sandwich. read more

We dined there last night for dinner - 4 adults and 2 babies under 1. Our waitress, Pamela, along with the hostesses/chefs/waiters/etc. were all amazing. Attentive, good with our babies, conversational! We started with the bbq and Buffalo wings which were OUTSTANDING and huge portions. All of our meals were delicious as well and the portions were also excellent. If we lived closer we would definitely be coming here regularly. Very good food. Everything I have tried on two visits was excellent lunch once and dinner once. The interior is a real restored revolutionary tavern with lots of fireplaces, Giant wooden plank floors all wavy and uneven because it's so old. I like the old tavern but it may not be for everyone. This is one of the few historic buildings in old kingston not burned by the British. Lot of history and some really good food to soak it all in. Service is fine, doesn't stand out as worth mentioning. read more

Hidden on the streets of uptown Kingston is the adorable Hoffman House. You would be surprised to find out that Kingston actually has some great dining options! Not many good places for breakfast but Hoffman house has real, hearty american food for lunch and dinner. While staying in the catskill area, my family and i ate here once for lunch and once for dinner with a larger group. Both times were great experiences, we had really nice service and everyone loved their food. Tip for first timers. If you go for dinner, they have a more pricey dinner menu and a tavern menu which offers burgers and sandwiches, nachos, wings etc. Ask for the tavern menu if you want those options rather than their regular menu. Its great to know if you have kids with you and they arent a fan of anything on the dinner menu OR you just want wings and dont feel like eating mahi mahi. What's good?? - Fish and Chips- An awesome stand-by and im glad i ordered this here.They give you a nice piece of haddock with CURLY fries, and they also gave me plenty of coleslaw and tartar sauce which i loved them for. - Rueben sandwich with pastrami- This was seriously yummy. The pastrami is cut extra thin and is super easy to eat if you take some serious bites. CHOMP. - Grilled leg of Lamb- Our waitress told us that this is her favorite thing on the dinner menu and she was totally right. If you are a lamb lover than you will truly respect this meal. What to pass up? - Grilled lamb and onion sandwich- Now this is a hot sloppy mess. Blue cheese sauce and soggy onions everywhere. Not a nice sight. Waaay too much undercooked garlic and grease, not enough steak. Also too much cheese and I love cheese, never thought I'd say too much cheese lol but it was gross. Fries were like cosco curly fries like restaurant supply food not made at restaurant. They forgot our salad so not sure how their salads are. Just unnecessarily greasy. It's hilarious, my guest wanted to go somewhere that felt colonial and we ended up at a place from the late 1600's. Doesn't get much more colonial than that. They have outdoor patio space in the summer as well as a big room for parties. Appetizers were great. The wontons and Rangoon's tasted home made and they came out piping hot. Our waitress was so good, (Erin), that we forgot about the 20 minute wait to order. They had a white Zinfandel that was delicious and I usually only drink red. The flan was so unbelievably good, I will come back just to have it again. I adore richly historic locations and I felt deep in atmosphere. There is a briefing on the front of the menú that tells you about the first owner of the tavern and it's fascinating. I loved the low ceilings, wide floor boards and narrow hallways. We got there at 6:10. Had to go to nearby UPAC for a show at 8 so figured we had plenty of time. Nope. We ordered an appetizer and two entrées. After an hour and still no appetizer I inquired about the status...I noticed other diners who came in after us were already eating. I pointed this out to the waitress. She said well they ordered appetizers". I said : "so did we! " finally she brought it out. Waited another ten minutes or so. I realized we'd never make our show at this rate. I asked if we could at least get our salads and soup and get our meals to go. The waitress brought those out along with the check. For close to 100.00 I had a salad and bread sticks for dinner. At least i have nice lunch to take to work tomorrow. On the plus side the waitress was sweet and apologetic. She said they were very busy that night. All the staff there was hustling for sure. Still they must need more help in the kitchen as it was a Tuesday night. The people at the table next to us were going to the same show and had the same experience. They had to cancel their order because they were staying in a hotel. read more
