I ordered a wall air conditioner through Home Depot online. It was shipped through two or more terminals & by the time it arrived at a Sacramento terminal near my home, it was damaged & had to be sent back. Because my installation date scheduled with a contractor was rapidly approaching, I needed the replacement unit asap so I went to customer service at the Madison Ave. store. They refunded the money I paid for the first one, ordered another at a present sale price discounted another 5%, & rushed the delivery which arrived yesterday. I witnessed the extensive work the experienced rep went to to make this happen & I was beyond impressed. I have never had such a stellar retail experience. Though I'm usually not generous with my money I gave the rep a $20 tip (which he at first refused until I persisted). I only mention the tip to emphasize what extra innings they went to to make this happen. I give Home Depot my very highest recommendation. read more

The nonsense continues! My dad and my husband needed to pick up some tools to install a new door frame. Despite my warnings to avoid this Home Depot at all costs and my very public boycott, they decided to come to this store because it's close. They split up to grab tools and supplies. An employee kept my husband waiting for 45 minutes as he dinked around chatting up coworkers. My husband followed up about 20 minutes in and was scolded by this older employee that he needed to work on his patience and told he'd get to him when he'd get to him. He finally asked somebody else, who helped him immediately. At the 45 minute mark this employee made his way over to discover someone else had helped my husband. My dad asked how everything was going when they met up again and, upon hearing how the employee scolded my extremely patient, non-confrontational husband, decided to confront the employee and explain how inappropriate is it to scold a customer and accuse them of impatience while you choose to ignore them. This old man was super dismissive of my father and upon returning to his station, loudly announced to all the other employees "yeah, I just told him to shove it!" I know my father and I know my husband. Both are always respectful even when unhappy and even in super stressful situations. My dad is a retired highway patrol sergeant. I know how they speak to people. The ego and misplaced power trip on some of these Home Depot employees is inexplicable and disgusting. The hit or miss employee situation still stands. The 2nd employee who helped my husband was awesome and they both were so impressed by their "lovely" cashier that they asked to speak to the manager to praise her. These are the men I know. They go out of their way to praise good work, it says a lot when an arrogant old man at Home Depot can make them both this furious. read more

Home Depot screwed me over. Over a week and a half ago I ordered over $10000 worth of lumber to be delivered tomorrow. I get a call today at the last minute saying that they can't get it. BS. Mary from customer service spent an absolute absorbent amount of time to help me fix my problem she is wonderful. I applied for their credit card while in the middle of moving. Somehow it went to my old address instead of new and it took months to get it sent to the correct address. When I finally could get online to pay, I paid off the entire balance I owed as intended. That didn't stop Home Depot from tacking on late charges and ruining my credit score. Repeated tries to write them and call the company fell on deaf ears. They rather steal a few "late charges" then keep a customer who spends hundreds when he goes shopping there. read more

I am not impressed. Home depot is closer to me and therefore more convenient than the average hardware store, and generally, sadly, the big box stores are more fully equipped than the mom and pop shops. I've done casual shopping here before, but aside from the actual cashiers I have never once been impressed with their customer service or integrity. Take today for example. I called in ahead of time to ask a question. Once I pulled through their long automated prompts with way too many department lines to actually be a functioning service and waiting for several minutes, I get a lady who after asking my question hangs up on me. Nice. So I head out to ask my question in person. (I needed a piece of wood cut in half.) Two gents in front of the machine looking mighty bored, I asked them if they would, they said no since it wasn't from their store. I asked if they knew anyone else who would.. they said no and looked irritated that i broke up their little doing nothing party, so I left. This isn't a log I was trying to cut. Not particleboard or plastic. Just an untreated wooden board, standard width. Went to an ehm. Competitor store and they were happy to cut it for me, and earned additional business as I shopped there after my wood was cut. You guys lost a nice sale and perhaps a customer by your continually shoddy service. Convenience is nice, but so is respect. Please train your employees to actually care about their jobs, and reconsider your wood cutting policy. You have a saw and no lines to use it.. business is going elsewhere. read more

Terrible Home Depot location! The manager of the store, the one who's supposed to set the examples, was completely out of line today and was an embarrassment to Home Depot. As always, we were there for business reasons. Supplies for building additions, houses, etc. We have been purchasing as a Diamond status company for years. Today, we were treated so disrespectfully, the "Manager" Ryan, should be ashamed of himself. Not only did he refuse a check for our purchase, which all of the employees have been writing for years, but he talked down to us as though we were trying to steal from the company. That wasn't all..... After a frustrated argument, and the decision to just leave, on our way out he (Ryan) continued to be disrespectful by snidely yelling that we shouldn't be trying to write fraudulent checks. OMG! To say this in the first place was absurd. To yell it in front of the entire store to our back as we were leaving,....well that was just disgusting! Now I understand why this Home Depot location has a 2.5 star rating. I'm actually surprised it's not lower. If the upper management were wise, they'd look into the management at this location. I was at the Carmichael,  CA store on Madison and Manzanita Tuesday as well as today and both times had an issue with 1 gal in the paint department. The first time on Tuesday,  I was waiting in line and instead of helping me, she proceeded to ask the woman behind me if she needed help. I thought it was rude but gave her the benefit of the doubt. Then again today I needed more paint, so I waiting in line, there was only 2 people ahead of me, and instead of helping me again she ignored me and just stood over by the computer.  I was then helped by the gentleman working there and the gal was using profanity while helping a different customer and while talking to her coworker. She had long brown hair and a few tattoos on her arms. I have no idea why she was so rude to me or why she felt it was appropriate to use that language at work but I will not be going back to that location for anything. read more

I just saw the cashier yelling at a customer. She got mad because he ask her why the price was different than the tag on the shelf. She just lost it and refuse to finish the check out even though he told her it was alright. It got to the point where the customer just walks out. How can the company allow their associates to treat customers like this. I for one will not go back to this location. read more

This morning I stopped by this Home Depot to look into garage lighting and window covers. First I stopped by the lightning department and looked around for someone to help me and answer some questions. I finally came upon four employees having a chat. After a bit one of them acknowledged me but offered no real help. Next I went to the home decor area and found a woman clerk. She didn't really show much interest in helping me by presenting options. I left discouraged and drove to Lowe's on Sunrise. I had great help there and made my decisions and left feeling satisfied. read more

The best hardware experience ever! My father was a master carpenter, I didn't understand then but I get it now. I walked in worried about not finding things or being ignored. That Did Not happen. I was greeted with a smile and body language that said I'll help, what do you need? I got my wall mounted hooks, a stud finder and a set of Phillips screwdriver as well as a few standard screwdrivers. I wanted to hug my help! He ran and got a stud finder for me while I got my bathroom fixtures. Aran was his name, and if everyone treated me like he did and smile too, wow! The management obviously doesn't care or they would have security in the parking lot and in the store. The amount of theft I have seen take place in this store is shocking. Like most people say giving one star is generous. I would give -5 if that was an option! Please reconsider getting any doors or windows from elsewhere! Im sure Lowes has better service! The issue first came with the delivery. The door itself is in a huge contraption that has everything covered except the top! Why wouldny you cover the top! Our door delivery came with the worst customer service around. Our door was delivered the day before installing and the delivery drivers left it completely unsecured of our driveway. A gust of wind could've knocked it over and ruined our 3000 door but i guess thats not there problem! So my husband and I secured it as best we could until the next day. Then the installer calls 30 minutes after his expected arrival to say he needs to postpone. This is not a HD that I frequent but came here because it was close(r) and happened to have a filter that I needed (the other big box place did not). Business is done differently here. Not one floor staff person smiled nor any helpful at all. I had only one thing to purchase and rather than walk every aisle of this unfamiliar store, I asked where I'd find. A firm arm straighten and finger pointed me to "that direction" - no smile, no words. This happened twice. I found the aisle and options of filters. Whatever. Headed to an open register. Surprised that there was no line and only one customer at each register, I took my spot at an open register. WRONG - that's not how it's done here. I heard some grumblings coming from behind me and was then greeted by the cashier (in a firm, authoritative, strong voice, finger and arm pointed out straight), "The line starts back there!" Turning around, the single line forms 15 feet back from the register into the aisle - apparently customers are to wait here until called. Rude, unfriendly, and unhelpful. Thanks for making sure that I never come to this store again. Well done. read more

I am surprised this place stays in business. we are remodeling our house right now. We have spent over 6k in this store in the past year. Earlier this year (2009), we ordered french doors, tile, dry wall and other such items to remodel our back room. We went ahead and had the items delivered. When we received the doors, I discovered that they didn't have the blinds in the doors as I wanted. After reviewing the paperwork, I discovered they were ordered that way. I felt I could live with it, instead of waiting another 3 weeks. These were a custom order. The weekend rolled around and our friend came over to help us remove the picture window we were replacing with the doors, and install them After working all day to prep the area, they discovered the doors were damaged. The doors we received had a cracked frame, caused by the pallet being screwed too hard into the frame to secure the doors for shipping. We called the Carmichael store, only to be flipped back and forth and told no one could help us until Monday. I spoke with their customer service via the phone (corporate), and at least 8 people at this store. It took over a month for the issues to be resolved. Every time I called, was flipped around some more, and finally had to go to the store in PERSON. I was lied to, told that there was not a store manager there and after demanding to speak to someone in charge, was then given to the store manager who "wasn't there". We were told that a new right frame for the door would be ordered, and that the Mills work department would come out and fix the door. This piece was supposed to arrive 6/9/09. Then I was told they sent the wrong part. Then I was told the replacement piece won't be here until the 17th. Meanwhile, I had a hole in my house because I was delivered broken doors that should have been inspected in the first place. After asking to return the doors, I was told they could UPS out the piece overnight. This should have been done in the first place. We finally got the piece a week late, not overnight. They came out and did a half-a**ed job fixing the doors. By this time, we just wanted to get them in, so my husband adjusted them and in they went. I will never shop at Home Depot again - any of the stores. The rudeness, unwillingness to help and all out ineptness of the customer service we have received is only part of the reason. We were disappointed, frustrated and shocked at the treatment we have received. I will take my business to Lowe's and other smaller companies in the area. Buyer beware! read more

I drove 45+ minutes out of the way to retrieve something placed on hold. MARK of the electrical department said that he had the items in hand and was setting them on hold up front. I stood around for 30+ minutes waiting for them to locate the hold, only to find out that Mark never delivered them to Customer Service desk and sold them to another customer thereafter. Although Home Depot is not known for its customer service, this place is even worse than usual. I've gone to this Home Depot for over a year now. Approximately three months ago I injured myself and I am required to now use a walker and the electric cart that's in the store. Yes I said cart.There's only one. While I know that most people find it inconceivable that somebody with a physical handicap would be shopping at a Home Depot, they should at least have more than one cart. When I went into the store today I came in on my walker down by the Pro desk. That was my mistake as that was the wrong entrance to find the motorized cart. Since it was at the other end of the store it required me to walk on my walker past all of the cashiers, the pro desk and the customer service desk. Trust me, being on a walker in the Home Depot attracts everybody's attention. The cart was not plugged in and when I turned on the switch there was less than 1/4 of a charge remaining. I got on the cart and went to the aisle where the moving supplies were. I passed several employees and none of them paid any attention to me or asked me if there was anything that they could help me find. This didn't really surprise me because that's normally the type of customer service this store has. However, I would have expected them to pay a little bit more attention to someone that was in a motorized cart with a walker in the basket. While I was in the process of dragging 20 moving boxes onto the basket of the cart and selecting other supplies, four employees walked by me and not one of them asked me if I needed any help. As I was checking out, the cashier acted like it was in an inconvenience for her to have to move stuff around to scan the prices. I want you to know that my walker was folded up on top of the merchandise preventing it from sliding off. Including my cashier there were 3 to 4 other employees standing right there. Not a single employee offered to help me out to my car. Not a single one. This store has horrible customer service and as far as I'm concerned their employees lack simple common decency. read more

I love coming to the Home Depot whenever I have a project that I'm working on at home or thinking and getting ideas about future projects I might want to take on. There is always someone around every corner waiting to ask if you need assistance finding anything and offering helpful solutions to any questions you may have. I avoid this store at all costs. I've been to other Home Depot stores, but the Carmichael one is the worst. Sales associates are difficult to find, and when you can find one, they aren't knowledgeable. Some are rude, too. They usually recommend the wrong items, which means I need to exchange them. The hardware is a gamble. I've often gotten home with a box of screws only to find they had already been opened...and forget about buying bulk hardware. It's so mixed up that you're unlikely to get the size/type that was supposed to be in the bin. The lumber is cheap but poor quality. I always have to dig through it just to find a single board or stud that isn't warped, bowed, twisted, cupped, or cracked. It usually takes 20-30 minutes to find 5 good 2x4s. Most of the lumber I've purchased from home depot ends up significantly changing its shape, making it cracked once the project is assembled. This is for dried lumber, which should be more stable. At any given time, half of the self-checkout stands are out of order, forcing you to wait in lines that are crazy long. This is because the checkers are slow, and they don't open new checkstands when there are long lines. I was in today to return some items that were given to me and the guy at the return counter said he couldn't accept them because they were "too much". When I asked for clarification, he said without a receipt they couldn't be returned. I've returned things at least 10 times at that store without receipts. My girlfriend gets a text from me almost every time I go to this store saying "#*@! Home Depot!". You get what you pay for. read more

I've been purchasing a lot of materials and supplies for one of my properties, for the past few weeks at this location.. smiles, happy greeters, best wishes, while selling me my supplies. One of their experts in the irrigation department gave me some sprinkler recommendations. However, they did not work. I brought them back and all the smiles seem to disappear..could not get a refund, because they have been used. Note, there's no other way to know if it was going to work... The absolute worst HomeDepot I've ever been to, and we are HomeDepot shoppers! First - the parking lot: this is bloody HomeDepot! The parking aisles are too narrow for a normal pick-up truck! Second - the store aisles: narrow, forget passing another cart here! And do they need to park a ladder in each aisle? At one point, we were blocked in and an employee ASKED if we wanted the ladder moved!?!?! Uh, no, we decided to stay here the rest of our lives - not! Third - check out: to make aisle congestion even more fun and wonderful, everyone checking out has to line-up in Aisle 9. Now, the aisles are barely wide enough to shop in, but let's add 40 people with all sizes of carts trying to check out. To say the least, I will go to Lowes instead!!! read more

Went in Sunday of Memorial weekend, the place was packed, my daughter and I had quite the list of things to find and buy. Right inside the door, we met Arion an employee who got us a cart for wood (a miracle) and proceeded to take us everywhere we needed to go and loaded everything we choose. He remained with us through the long line, through checkout, out to my van and loaded everything for us. I have to say I was so impressed with him. He was extremely personable. I told him he reminded me of how Home Depot was when they first opened oh so many years ago. I'm just sorry it has taken me so long to write this review, my first ever. I have very mixed feelings about this Home Depot, which I think can apply to most others. The good thing is, they have plenty of choices and low prices. If you know what you want and what section it's in, and you don't need any help, you're golden. If, however, you do need assistance, be it finding the right item or getting it down, it can be a real crapshoot. From my experience, you might have to wander around for a while until you can find someone to help you, which can be aggravating. My worst experience was trying to just find someone to help my get a tankless water heater off of a shelf. This was a $1,000 purchase I was ready to make then and there, but I was made to feel like I was somehow inconveniencing as I sought assistance. Other times, though, I've had a someone walk by and actually ask me if I needed assistance (what a concept!), then listened and provided useful advice. In short, Home Depot isn't my favorite place to shop, but I haven't found a better option in the area. read more

Home depot has lost a lot of business to Lowe's down the road near Sunrise mall. This location is as old as just about everything in this area. During the summer, it always feels like the don't have any air conditioning and I feel like I'm going to pass out in the store. Also, the parking lot is on a slope and shopping carts love to ding my doors. They rent trucks here by the hour and they have a decent self-checkout system that is always open. They just need to retrain their staff on the basics of customer service. read more

Scary parking lot, that's terribly lit at night, make this location a 'maybe' if you need something handy to fix a problem in your home. Staff is almost non-existent and when you do find someone, they give you a 'general' spot to look--sometimes with disastrous consequences. I went in looking for some magnetic cabinet locks and some wire to wire a chain link fence closed (the homeless had cut through it--thanks a lot!) and each item I was directed to three different places. I have had my ups & downs with the big box stores like Lowe's & Home Depot and I have to say there have been several times when I really dreaded going to either store. We recently had a dish washer go out, I went everywhere to find the best, most affordable unit I could locate. Online, social media, it was a dead end. I need a certain color due to somewhat recent renovations to my kitchen. I strolled into The Home Depot & in the appliance section stood Shelina Sapp, Appliance Specialist. First & foremost I don't care who this offends but she was playing gospel music very low on her speaker , she quickly apologized for it, in which I said don't ever apologize for loving our Lord & Savior, that was the beginning of the best experience I have yet to encounter at The Home Depot. I returned 2 days later to once again be met by? Yes the warm & exuberant Shelina Sapp who instantly remembered me & we proceeded to process my order for a new dish washer. Now some may think this is a drawn out story but get over it because my point is Shelina Sapp proved that customer service does still exist in some folks & she will be the reason I continue to bring my business back to The Home Depot in Carmichael,Ca. Young guy at the return desk was not doing anything, made me wait around while he mingled and then was cocky and rude to me for no reason. The customer service is lacking at this location.
