We've had to make quite a few trips to this location, during our recent move. Ready to go back a few times to get extra moving boxes. I was at self checkout and did not ask for or need assistance. The HD rep insisted on helping me checkout. She entered her employee badge number when it wasn't needed which made the checkout process take longer. I knew to swipe my HD card if inserting it did not work/process. The young man behind the older gentlemen I was talking to threw his hands up in frustration even. How unprofessional, disgusting even. If you start a project that you're not entirely sure about, don't just trust the Home Depot worker on the advice that they give you. We built a natural wood deck for over $20k in our backyard and based on the recommendation of the employee we purchased products to paint on it to protect the deck. The paint was supposed to last 20-30 years, that was last summer. This summer, the paint has mostly flaked off. The story gets worse as now we need to figure out how to get the paint off, and only what flakes off comes off. We have tried power washing, other paint thinners and chemicals and the process is tedious. We have to hand sand it daily in little tiny sections because it's difficult and there's chemicals involved. This is not the first project that has gone awry with poor advice, but definitely one of our more expensive ones. In general, this home depot is fine. This location is fine. Just beware that the employees are not all skilled in their trades for the aisles they stand at. Google it. Get a second, third, or fourth opinion on your more expensive or extensive projects. The multiple people that helped us in the process were friendly, but clearly not a one had a single clue at all and we talked to quite a few people going back and forth all last summer and this one! read more

Don't buy any big ticket items like large appliances from there. They are very vague on what's involved in installation. They subcontract to terrible thirst parties who act on their own whims. Like most consumers in the US, I have shopped at HD for decades, while I never really needed much help, the occasional assistance is rather adequate and appreciated. My last visit was one of the worst I have ever experienced at Home Depot. I had come in for some help with a Ryobi string trimmer spool cap that has become stuck. The first clerk I encountered simply told me he just got there and didn't know what to do. I looked at his demeanor and new, shiny apron, I figured he'd be a new employee so I went looking for help elsewhere. He never once offered to find help from another associate. My impression was that he wanted to be left alone because it was a slow day and store empty of customers. He wanted a paid day off. Next stop was the rental department and you'd think the employees there would have seen them all and knew how to open up a spool. Before I got to the counter and spoke a single word, the employee, who had absolutely nothing to do, simply shook his head, saying, "No". I looked at him in dismay, asking, "Excuse me?" He went on to tell me that all the string trimmers have different ways to open the caps and I should just look up YouTube instead. Yes, your employee told a customer to look up YouTube for trouble shooting a product SOLD EXCLUSIVELY AT HOME DEPOT. Similar scenario, another incompetent employee who can't be bothered to solve a simple problem. I finally found a break with a nice young man at the customer service area, who knew exactly what was wrong with the cap and borrowed a crescent wrench from the rental department to pry it open. It got screwed on way too tight. It took all but 30 seconds. Now, that same employee who told me to look up YouTube wanted to share his knowledge, exclaiming that he couldn't believe that I couldn't find instructions on YouTube. If this is an acceptable practice for your employees, I will do my best to avoid coming to Home Depot, and will let all the others know how lazy and incompetent the employees can be. I have started out my career in customer service area decades ago and never needed a training manual or coaching to know that it didn't take much to help a customer. I was in the market for a soldering iron plus accessories, some lumber and also wanted to price some appliances and I figured The Home Depot was a large enough store to have a good selection of everything. But I was disappointed in every area. First of all, the prices here are ridiculous. I priced a refrigerator and found that the exact same model was available at Best Buy for $600.00 LESS. And that the dishwasher I wanted was $250.00 less at Menard's. Quickly decided against HD for my appliances. I headed to lumber and while I was happy to see that they finally changed the blade on the saw (that earned them the third star) I was disappointed to see that much of the wood was warped. And again, the prices were astronomical compared to Menard's. The only reason I would consider buying from The Home Depot is because they have a full size floor saw which can cut larger pieces; not all stores can do that. But really, my pickup truck can carry it fine. Left lumber and went to tools. After not being able to find rosin core solder or flux, I asked an associate who said that those items are only sold online. Why sell the soldering irons if you can't provide the solder or flux?! That's like selling circular saws but no blades. Or computers but not keyboards. Off the top of my head I can't see a reason to even go back to The Home Depot let alone spend money there. read more

THEY DON'T CARRY ANYTHNG IN STOCK any more. They take a week to get in what you need. I have had to buy substitutes for what I really want because I need it that day, with consequent problems doing the job and lower quality of job. I originally wrote a massive dissertation of a negative review, describing in detail how bad my experience was trying to get a flooring quote from Home Depot, but I decided to opt for something with more brevity and less melodrama. Let's just say the overall experience was awful for the following reasons: -Unimpressive selection of laminate (but we eventually found an option we liked) -The online measurement scheduling service doesn't work. No, really- we set up an appointment to have someone come into our home and measure, and then the day of the appointment we got no word from Home Depot. No calls, no emails. After digging into the issue we were eventually told by someone at the store that the online appointment service "doesn't work" so we have to set something up via phone. -This is the big one: calling into the store is an extremely miserable experience. Here's how it goes: the robot operator asks how can it help? If you say "flooring" it sends your call to the flooring department. It rings and rings then bounces your call to the service desk. They ask how they can help so you explain you're trying to reach someone in flooring. They transfer you to the flooring department, where the phone rings and rings and then bounces your call back to the service desk. If you tell them no one in the department is picking up the phone, you will be placed on hold while they page someone- this results in you being on hold for up to ten minutes until you give up or the phone magically starts ringing again sending you back to the service desk. This ouroboros of department-service desk-department will continue, ad infinitum, until you interrupt the vicious cycle by asking for a manager. Now, I'm no Karen (or whatever the male equivalent is- a Kevin?) and I hate asking for a manager, but eventually even my strong will was broken by the endless waves of ringing phones in my ear and hold music. -When I finally got a hold of a manager and explained (pretty exasperatedly) that I was desperate to speak to someone in flooring, the manager didn't even consider apologizing for the experience or thanking me for my patience. I can forgive this because I'm not an emotional doofus, but a lesser customer would've been aggravated. Alright, I admit it, it aggravated me too.. I've worked in customer service and retail, the least you can do is feign an apology to a customer, and it's even better if you're sincere about it. -The actual measurement appointment went fine, but the guy that came out and measured said "expect an email tomorrow with your quote". No email ever came. Two days later I had to wade back into the hellscape of Home Depot phone tag and get to the bottom of it. Turns out, a product SKU was never entered in, so the quote was never generated. There are a lot more details that made this experience less-than-stellar, but again, I am attempting brevity here. A few positives warranting the one star review: -Dennis in flooring is a great guy and really tried to figure this stuff out for me. He sounded as frustrated as I was by the experience. -The people at the service desk stayed polite even though I could tell they were busy -The price of the installation and product was decent as far as I can tell. When I finally did get my quote, it came in at $3500 for 560 square feet of cheap laminate. Long story short, avoid the dreaded over-the-phone stuff. Do as much in person as you can, or go with another service entirely. read more

5-15-20 update on new visit I'm paint latex over oil base trim and when I asked the lady in the paint department which of her primers would work for my application. She said any interior or exterior would work. I then asked about a brand of trim paint she knew was good for going over oil based paint. She again said any and that I didn't even need a primer. I said are you sure, oh yes she replied, I just went thru training and they said any paints now a days will cover oil. I then told her that I mean no disrespect but she's wrong. I told her that I just found that out the hard way because I can take the finger nail and remove the new paint I just did which is why I'm here now. Bottom line, that lady in the paint department knew nothing of paint and DYI projects. I left and I'm now headed to another store with the hopes of working with someone who actually knows about paint. Very snarky customer service girl. When I called to ask about a timeframe for a delivery that I paid for, I was told that if I wanted a time frame for my delivery I could've paid for that service but since I didn't she wouldn't tell me. This Home Depot is the best when it comes to customer service and having items in stock for whatever project we happen to have going on. I have had nothing but positive experiences. Here are just a few examples: 1. We ordered carpet and then changed our mind on the order within the 72 hour limit they have for changing the order. We went with a cheaper carpet they had on sale. No problem. They changed our order no questions asked. Also, during the course of this change I found out they offer a 10% discount to anybody who is a veteran of the armed services. I qualify there and we got an additional 10% off our order. It was a sizable discount! 2. We bought a weed trimmer. The battery died after about 3 recharging cycles. First they replaced the battery and charger. When that didn't work, they cheerfully refunded our money. 3. We bought a scratch and dent dryer from them. It was discounted 50%. They let us use the truck for free to get it home. Every time we are there, the staff greets us (not because they know us, although we should be on a 1st name basis by now!) and asks if they can be of any help. They don't linger and pressure but are close by if you need something. Also, it seems that the entire staff knows the entire inventory. More than once, they have trekked across the store to show us where we should be looking instead of where we were! I can't say enough good about this store! read more

Just recently moved to a home near this Home Depot and have had to make multiple visits to the store for various things. Have had a terrific experience with the staff in the paint and blinds department. They went above and beyond in providing thoughtful suggestions based on my criteria. The only complaint is a staff person in the cabinet hardware department that I've had 2 encounters with and has been rude both times. He made it sound like a hassle when I asked about pricing for a cabinet handle. Another time I asked for his help in finding a staff member for blinds assistance and he quickly brushed me off and said he couldn't help in that department. Other staff members I asked after that had no issue in helping to find me assistance. On the other hand, Judy and Kathy in blinds were amazing and I was very happy with working with them on my large custom blinds order. read more

I have shopped at Home Depot forever and have never had any serious issues. Today I did! My husband and I went to pick out tile for a shower/bathroom renovation, we were told that Judi LaForge was their design consultant at the Novi store and to come back in the morning and she would help us and that she is fabulous. We came back first thing the next morning found her and explained our need for help designing a new bathroom, pick out Home Depot products to purchase for it and if she could recommend a tile installer to do the work. First off Judi looked very annoyed that we would ask her -the design consultant to do this. She then sat down on her computer and signed us up for a visit from Atlas Home Improvement. She said they would be who takes care of this kind of thing. This company called us to schedule an appointment within minutes. They came out and told us they do not use Home Depot products and that they sell prefab shower walls. It took over an hour of my time for the presentation that both my husband and I had to be at and then they wanted $17,000 for just a small cookie cutter colonial house shower. Not the entire bathroom even. We were told if we didn't sign right then it would be another $2000!! Now since they do not sell Home Depot products and Home Depot recommends them ,Home Depot must be getting a nice kickback from these high pressure overpriced jerks. I am so mad that Home Depot exposed us to these crooks. Not sure what Judi LaForges job is actually as a designer for Home Depot other than to pass the job on to another company. I needed a new dishwasher. I decided to go to Home Depot because of their reputation, but that turned out to be a grave mistake. I went down there and purchased a dishwasher and the installation. It took 3 weeks for the dishwasher to arrive, and when it arrived the men hired to install it refused to install it. They wouldn't even take it back; they dropped it in my living room and ran out the door. I called Home Depot and they refused to talk to me about it. So I went up to the Home Depot and spoke to the head of their appliance sales and she was smug, arrogant, and acted like my Petty concerns were not hers. I spoke to the store manager who finally agreed to return the dishwasher for me but I needed to hold it in my home for another 14 days until they could schedule someone to get it. They would not allow me to bring it up to them. Eventually they came and picked it up, and it was a further month until I received my money back. This was all highly unnecessary when considering that I went to ABC Warehouse on the 4th of July and they had a dishwasher installed in my home the next day. Ironically when I tell anyone that I'm having problems having an appliance delivered and installed they all know exactly where I bought it and in which town. It was a mild temperatured evening in May. The mood was light. My friends and I decided to kick-off the warm season with a bonfire. In preparation for the evenings festivities, we ask the age old question: where might we procure the life blood of the night, the sustenance for which the warmth and light will depend on, the firewood? Options were thrown around: liquor store? Ha. Not this time of year. Walmart? Ha. Not in this American fire. Home Depot? Why, yes, a fine option. As we arrive to the store, the sun setting in the background the specific smell of Home Depot in the air, a world of possibilities is opened, almost as if I now, finally, can do it and they can help. Thus, the search for fire wood commenced. Isles were checked, outdoor areas were scoured, but, alas, nary a splinter of wood was found. It was at this time we enlisted the help of Sally and Eric. A seemingly innocent question: where's the fire wood? Launched a search party of magnificent proportions. Despite an obvious, through, and commanding knowledge of the specific locations of all Home Depot product, the firewood remained elusive. Hope was fading fast and just as we were about to call and audible and head to another store, Eric returned with shocking news, news that gives me chills to this day, news comparable to that of obi wan kenobi recieved princes Leias call for help. The news was- the fire wood was indeed located, but could not be acquired without the assistance of a key holder. It was at this time we ran into Garett, who was unfortunately, not a key holder. Briefly, I made eye contact with Garett, my glance screamed "I can do it, but for the love of God HOW?", his gentle eyes smiled back as if to say "I can help". Eventually, they keys were obtained and we were in the home stretch. Championed by sally, her mere presence a god-send within itself, we ventured into the outdoor section. We offered to carry our own wood, to which she responded "I can't let you do that", taking her position as safety leader very seriously. Seconds later, Garett returned with 2 bundles of premium fire wood, we all rejoiced. Sally then walked us to check out and we parted ways. This is your standard Home Depot, nothing extraordinary but very good. I come here now and then to get odds and ends. This time it was Christmas shopping for my boyfriend's family. There is always someone at the door to point you in the right direction and the lumber area was great last time. We needed several cuts done and they were very quick. I've left a review for this store in 2013 and gave it 5 stars and I'm doing it again in 2016. My wife and I go here all the time and the customer service is the best. Today is Black Friday and stores are crazy today yet they were willing to call other stores for us to find a snowblower. THE ABSOLUTE WORST HOME DEPOT YOU CAN SHOP AT. The service is horrible and believe me, this is at least my 50th time at this location and no one knows anything!! Don't dare ask a question because you will NEVER and I repeat NEVER find the answer. There were staples coming out. 5 years later it is coming away and bowing and Home Depot takes no responsibility and said that maybe my house settled. Bad installation from the start.
