There was a time when it was difficult to find where things were located, to ask for assistance, to check out. That's all changed in the Rancho Bernardo store. I am guessing that there's been some improvement in the training of staff around customer service. Staff is friendly, informed, willing to walk you to what you need, often offering some pro tips I'd you are confused about a purchase. Checkout has been eased by self-service, but with employees available if you need help with the process. No change in parking, and I think there need to be more disabled parking spaces. The garden center is one of my favorite places in the store and it is alway# well stocked. Returns are easy, and if you don't have a receipt, you get a store credit. read more

Customer Service & U-Haul Rental Warning! I've been a long time Home Depot shopper as much as the next guy but I have to bring awareness to anyone who might be considering renting a U-Haul. Advertised on the truck says $29.99 as everyone knows. What some people might not know is that it is that price is actually only for the first 75 minutes? Afterwards it's actually $149.99 That is a fair & fine price I would be willing to pay as well but I was not made aware and was expected to read the fine print of the contract. Totally my mistake on that end but it would be nice if the customer service workers would mention it when renting these out. Unfortunately, we did not read the contract, like so many people don't when they are busy trying to move and so this is everyone's heads up to "read the fine print" and know the contract like the employees do, because they won't share it at the busy customer service line. I called and spoke with "Nicole" the rude customer service "lead" and in my kind communication I was met with a rude teenager girl attitude, not professionalism. I let her know I would be bringing awareness to the general public with this situation and she really went in saying that I was "threatening" and "exposing". I remained calm and tried to level with her as a human being, saying that she probably wouldn't like being charge $450 dollars for something she didn't use or didn't read the fine print for a place she did not work for but she did not empathize, just hung up shortly after getting angry. This is a caution to all that 29.99 is only for the first 75 minutes or something and to read the fine print. When you're moving and have Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and your Grandma's 91st Birthday all in the same week, it would be nice to be verbally communicated of the actual cost. Yes, this is on me still but Home Depot Customer Service needs to have better training or some people might take this as False Advertising or something shady. I definitely won't be coming back due to this experience. None contract/instruction reading people beware! LOL read more

Ordered 14 interior doors and two mirrored closet slider doors from Home Depot. Several of the doors are the wrong size or swing the wrong direction and need to be reordered (measured by Home Depot). Poor installation of door leading to garage as the deadbolt does not align and there is a loose threshold. Installers cut the power line to the wired security system without asking a question to the owner (prior to or after cutting). This disabled the entry point alarm system. Owner was at the residence the entire time of installation so a question could have easily been asked prior to cutting wires. Sliding closet doors were supposed to have a slow closing mechanism and they do not. When owner brought this up to the installer he told the owner those are just problematic and doesn't recommend them being installed on the closet doors ... if this is what the owner paid for, they should be installed. Installer only replaced some of the door handles. Left some of them on the floor in the home and some of the doorhandles are missing altogether. Two of the doors rub the floor when opening and closing. When the owner pointed this out, the installer said they make them that way to cut down on noise. This is not true and another excuse for poor installation and incorrect measurements by Home Depot. Trim behind the bathroom door in the master bath was cut lengthwise with a very rough edge as it must have been the wrong size, again Home Depot measured. This is an eyesore and done incorrectly... again no notification to the owner. Installer damaged at least two walls and never said a thing to owners about it. Getting in touch with a representative from Home Depot during the project was utterly impossible. read more

We recently renovated our guest bathroom, with most of the materials coming from the Home Depot. We found the selection at Home Depot competitive with the tile specialty stores and the prices superior. The tile we selected was just beautiful, as was the glass tile accent strip. Daltile, MSI - all great recognizable name brands. Home Depot also carries their own brands, such as Glacier Bay, which is the name on the dual-flush toilet we installed - now for the fourth time, as we used the same model in our last house. Customer Service: We had the opportunity to interact with several of Home Depot's employees, both in the store and on the phone. They have great people, friendly, knowledgeable. We recently have moved into a new house and inherited some plants along with buying some new ones like mint and citronella, as there are way more bugs specifically mosquitoes than usual. It also seems like we frequent Home Depot a lot after getting a home for a lot of different things. A grill, power supplies (we became under the Ryobi fam), roller shade, painting materials, etc. Cool thing about the roller shades is if you have the measurements prior, they can cut it for you. It does look like things get pretty popular though because when we went there was a very limited selection left. For the power supplies, you will need to find the associate in that area to open it up and bring it at the checkout, if it's locked. There are specific associates that can open up, so don't expect that any associate can unlock. Joseph was super helpful in the gardening area when we were blankly staring at the huge array of pots, unsure what to get. Very friendly and super knowledgeable after knowing some context of the plants that we had. There are some items that are better to get at Home Depot if you're here, rather than order from Amazon, as sometimes its more affordable. But we haven't had much of a problem ever at home depot, it's pretty much going in for what we're looking for. read more

Most of the employees here are nice. It is in a convenient location and has lots of stock. If something isn't in store, it's easy to order online and ship to store for free. Only negative is the checkout line is confusing. One day I came and the checkout line was in the middle of the store, & everyone gave me a look like I was trying to cut them unintentionally! Then on another day, it was each line for itself. I wish they would have some kind of signage, or at least gently explain to customers! :( read more

Went in to see if they had a Halloween decoration that said "limited stock" online. I asked a worker and he made me feel real bad about coming late and said you should've come three weeks ago. "Customer experience manager" Chris Rogers and his assistant condescender Bex had absolutely no answers when I was returning items. I had receipts, but the system was denying store credit. They came across as completely powerless, rattling off robotic phrases as they couldn't care less. Their advice, call 1-800-HOME-DEPOT and we all know what a disaster that would be (2 hours later anyway). What really bothers me is I have watched people walk out of the Carmel Mountain store with a cart load of items without paying, but once again they penalize their paying customers (witness their TSA style checkout). In summary, it is becoming increasingly difficult to put up with a subpar, poorly trained and unmotivated staff that I regularly find at the Carmel Mountain Home Depot with each new visit. We like the Home Depot in Carmel Mt. Ranch. For the most part everyone is really nice and always there to help whether your are looking for something in particular or really aren't sure what you are looking for. What I really like about Home Depot is unlike other home improvement places they treat everyone equally. If I go in with my husband, they are always asking if we need help. If I go in by myself, they are there asking if I need help. They are just generally nice and the employees seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs and being there. The garden area is nice and the store as a whole has a great variety of items needed to make improvements around your entire home. Prices are reasonable on most items. The only items I do not buy here are things like storage bins or containers (I find they are much more reasonable at other stores). For everything else Home Depot is a great place to start when doing home improvements and repairs. read more

I doubt it would have been easy if I had more than one item and the layout of the self checkout stations was awkward at best. It makes no sense to slow the process by having the highly trained and efficient cashiers stand by watching the customers fumble with the checkoutself-checkout stations. I came in exhausted from a long day of work, barely awake, and Eric somehow managed to make me laugh, wake up, and feel alive again. First of all, I spent a couple hours in the store after seeing the deals and being offered a discount ontop, to sign up for a Home Depot card. So I did, was accepted.. had the "scan here to pay" until I got my real card. So I was at self checkout (with other checkouts open and nobody ever 'waiting' on me. I go to scan the temporary code they have and it's asking for my id. My wallet was stolen, and the only thing I don't haveřrC back from the ordeal is my drivers license. Long story short; 3 hours later I have all my info; I have pics of my id and passport, multiple cards; knowledge of any question they could ask, offering up my family numbers and name to prove i don't have a credit card machine just at my disposal to trick Home Depot workers, after two minutes I was removed from self checkout and the manager (at least he acted like one, old bald guy) and was whispering things tk t qrqq he other clerk. At this point he dtook me to a customer service and whispers to the other guy when basically because of the company policy EVERYONE HAS TO SHOW A GOVT ID IF THEY PAY WITh A card. Normally, I like Home Depot but this time I did an online order, and the "curbside pickup" this time was BAD. I pulled into a pickup parking space and entered the info into their app as instructed by the signs. It said to call a phone number if no response in 2 minutes. I waited 4 and called. Sixteen minutes later - 16 minutes! - the phone was answered. This is not a national HD call center with loads of calls! This is from the parking lot to the service desk! Anyway, they brought my order out about 5 minutes later. Three forty-pound bags of water conditioner salt. And it seems like they decided to unload the most damaged bags on me as well! Impossible to unload and get into my conditioner without a mess. See pictures - ripped bags, mess in car and floor... Very poor service this time for sure! read more

This is specific to the Tool Rental Department. I rented a "Detail Cleaner" to clean outdoor patio furniture cushions. I've rented this specific cleaning device in years past. The unit I got was way past its shelf life and just did not work properly. It should have been taken off the shelf and retired already. Luckily I purchased the "fix it" warranty so there was not issue when I brought it back to return and rent the carpet cleaning unit with furniture attachments instead. The young guy that helped me was extremely pleasant and helpful for both transactions. He loaded both units into the back of my SUV for me. Sorry I did not get his name to recognize here. Again, do not wast your time renting the "Detail Cleaner" unit. read more

From buying my first bbq grill, to floral plants and wood to build my patio! Also, my tool sets have lasted years. Never had to send them in for replacement. Home Depot has always been the one stop shop place for anything to do with my home. Should have held on to their stock years ago... back when it was $20 a share! Here, low prices were just the beginning. They've sectioned off about 20/30 parking spots just for bbq grills in hopes that customers will buy and take one home... didn't see anyone do so. Depending on the department you either are greeted or ignored. I had the absolute shock of waiting 25 minutes for anyone in the flooring department to acknowledge me only to continue making calls. This seems to be a time of help yourself. It would have been a great idea if they had the items organized to do so. I went in with a sample, had the name and sku. After noticing she hung up the phone, I ask for help. One of the girls on the phone offered to go on the PA to see if Robert from tile could help. A family with a little one was waiting prior to me. They weren't acknowledged and left. This is where they lack observation skills, key to customer service. I had already wandered around the department for 20 minutes and spoke to Robert as he was already helping two other customers. He clearly stated he couldn't find it on the phone and I had to speak with one of the people making calls. Now we have come full circle. Robert comes back. Another guy comes into the department to get his water bottle to say goodbye to everyone. I am still waiting. No service. A complete hour wasted in the store. read more
