Located on the Kohler resort grounds, Horse & Plow is by far one of my favorite spots. Located on a lower level, and offering two levels of seating, this warm and inviting spot brings pub fare up a notch. Dark wood creates an elegant yet homey feel that is inviting to everyone, including families. Games for adults and kids are found near the hostess station, which are great ways to entertain and create great camaraderie. Kids menus are available, and the regular menu offers great classics. I ordered a spicy Bloody Mary, which was fabulous, and the Lake Perch Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries. The sandwich was a generous portion, and could have easily been shared. The fish was large and flakey, and the Brioche bun buttery and sweet. Our server was very friendly, and treated both us and our kids with great attention and humor. It doesn't matter if you are staying at the resort, because every visit here makes you feel like you belong. read more

Tucked downstairs in a separate restaurant from the main part of the Kohler resort is this delightful restaurant. The bloody Mary is delicious full of so much flavor. Sometimes they have a golden bloody Mary, which is made with yellow tomatoes this also very tasty. A bonus is that you can choose any beer on tap for your chaser. Get the burger and truffle fries. Spent the weekend at the American Club and loved the ability to eat at several different restaurants within the same resort. Each one is distinct, with its own menu and atmosphere. The Horse and Plow is a great spot if you have a group or family where noise is not a bug but a feature. We came here on our second evening around 7:00 for dinner. Food: The menu has a good selection of beverages and pub-style food. There is an extensive list of whiskeys, including bourbon and rye, lots of beers, and some specialty cocktails. We settled on a draft beer and the Plum Crazy cocktail, which was super yummy. For food, they offer appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, and a fish fry. There is even a Wagyu flat iron steak if you are interested in paying $75. We decided on the Double Butter Smashburger with truffle fries and the Walleye Fish Fry. The burger was good, although it could have been cooked a bit more to create more caramelized edges. The bun was good, but a bit too much bread for me, so I ate it open-faced. The truffle fries were delicious and could have been a meal in themselves. The walleye was battered and breaded with good texture, and the fish was flaky. I felt it was a bit overcooked, and the last several bites were very tough. Service: We did not have a reservation, and there were no tables available when we arrived. We took a spot at the bar, where the bartender got us an order of drinks. The service, both at the bar and at the table, was efficient but not especially friendly or outgoing. The food came out nice and hot, waters were kept full, and the check arrived promptly after the meal was finished. For those looking for a pub experience, this is a good spot. However, being at the American Club, I think I was looking for more of an elevated experience. This felt more like a place for a quick meal than somewhere I would feel compelled to return to. We were looking for a place to stop at on our way back to Green Bay after the Milwaukee Brewer game last night. This was the perfect spot to show off our group of eight where I grew up. (I lived a block away) (I've now since retired to N. Phoenix) Had to show off Kohler. We sat in that lower area that has just a few tables- had never sat there but it was the perfect spot! My friends were amazed when I mentioned that I took bowling lessons in that same exact spot 50 years ago by Harvey Richter!!! Wow! Anyway, it was good to go back to my roots!! Our server was great & so was the food! Anything KOHLER is synonymous with THE BEST!! The perfect 'destination'!!! Lot's better than Disney World!! Had to start with the Gibsville cheese curds!! The food was delicious. Never have I ever dipped cheese curds in blackberry jam (it was delicious!). I ordered the perch dinner with sweet potato fries. Both items were excellent. Our server recommended both--I was debating between a burger and the perch. The Kohler compound is really beautiful. The buildings are so beautiful and every detail is thoughtful. The Horse & Plow was very clean and our server was fantabulous. She followed up to ask if I liked what she recommended. I appreciated that she took the time to do so. We stopped at Horse & Plow after the Winter Market at the American Club. It was pretty crowded as the annual market draws quite a crowd, but after looking around, I spotted one seat at the bar and another opened up shortly. Our bartender was great, personalable and juggling a lot at once. I tried the Maverick as it has their signature bourbon. I'm not much of a bourbon drinker so this was the perfect light refreshing cocktail for me. They have a large selection of drinks to choose from. We also wanted a snack, so we split the Gibbsville cheese curds. When in WI....but yes the cheese curds did not disappoint. Served hot and fresh, with fruit jam and ranch they really hit the spot. We stopped by for cocktail before dinner and the bar was hopping! Stopped by the host station to see if we could sit at an open table in the bar area. We were told no. We hovered for a bit in the bar area unsure what to do. Jess approached us and asked if we needed anything. We shared we were hoping to have a drink but were turned away. She took control of the situation and secured us a table in the area we wanted to sit. Jess is a rockstar and was super attentive. She's why my review isn't less than 4 stars. The Austrian Steam was a delicious nightcap. I like that they had Eagle Park products too. We came back the next day and had the tuna tartare tostadas and pretzel for a snack. Food was good, server was nice, good place to hang out when staying at the American Club- plenty of tvs and nooks. We have been in the Sheboygan area for two weeks dining out nightly, and this is the worst experience we have had by far. We arrived on a Monday day night. It was not too busy so we sat the bar. Our bartender was efficient but not very engaging. We ordered a Cobb salad with chicken and the beef tips to share. The Cobb salad was good, though we could have used more dressing. The beef tips, however, were cold. We asked the bartender if he could heat up the food. All he said was "interesting". He took back the food and we got it back a few minutes later reheated with a dome cover. When he removed the cover a screw from the lid fell into to the beef tips. At that point he told us they would make us a new plate. When we did get the food, it was lukewarm at best. We didn't say anything more. We weren't looking for anything, but there wasn't even an apology. We were shocked to have this kind of experience at a five star resort. We do not plan to return. read more

I've been here several times and again this time forgot to take some pictures, apologies for that. H&P is located in the beautiful American Club Resort and the vibe is very cool, there are plenty of "artifacts" in the buildings and it was originally built to house all the immigrants coming to Kohler to work and is now a 5 star resort. We had 9 in our group and we were seated as soon as we walked in, no reservation. We started with a couple of giant soft pretzels that came with a very tasty mustard and a beer cheese for dipping. I had a Caesar Salad with grilled chicken, I was a little disappointed by how small the amount of chicken was provided for the 7.00 additional charge. The rest of the table had the Rueben, Club, Maverick Burger, and Chicken Sandwich, all of which were good. They have a great beer list and solid cocktail menu. We had a great experience at this restaurant! We stayed at the American Club last weekend and tried to experience at least one item from each of the restaurants in their collection. We were told by a staff member that we had to try their cheese curds - so we sat at their bar and ordered up! Service was quick despite being a Sunday game day, we easily found a bar seat, but the restaurant was busy. The Garden Salad was more a heap of greenery w smidges of accoutrements (could use more variety of items). The curds of decent portion and flavor. The Chicken Tenders were well above average and plump (not dry food service type). Drinks are also the bomb with the Bloody with beer back taking the prize. The only issue was a non-working credit card machine, that it seems WAS half working as their were three pending charges on the credit card. Staff was a bit wonky the night we went. At first they said our table was ready but after 10 minutes and still not being seated they said they made a mistake and couldn't seat us right away (turns out kitchen was running behind so front of house was trying to do damage control). Everything about the American Club is amazing...except the Horse and Plow. Don't get me wrong - it's cozy and the food is pretty tasty but I don't think I've ever been there when service was quick or efficient even when it's not busy. Menu is regular tavern food... good burgers. Kids meals include the usual suspects of chicken tenders or pasta. Service is friendly but usually takes a long time and a few times when we've visited we haven't gotten some of our menu items at all. Price wise, it's one of the more inexpensive spots in the area but be prepared for it to likely be very busy and possibly take a while to eat. read more

My husband and I came here after a wonderful day at the Kohler Spa. I got the Maverick cheeseburger with an egg on top and a side salad. It was amazing! Quite possibly the best burger I've ever had! We visited The Horse & Plow on a Thursday night to participate in a trivia night hosted by Quizmasters. We found out about it on Facebook's local events calendar. We snagged one of the high top tables near the bar. Even though they have a sound system throughout the place, it was pretty loud so I had to go up front multiple times to hear the full trivia question. We didn't order food as we already ate dinner, but we enjoyed their drinks. I especially liked their non-alcoholic, Legacy Tea. Our waitress was super friendly, brought us some popcorn, and checked on us often to see how we were doing. We had so much fun and would come back to do trivia again. Next time, we would come earlier so we could grab a table closer to the host to hear the questions better. read more

The outside was so beautiful and walking in was like a step back in time. The one negative is when you come in from the main doors and go down the stairs there is no hostess standing there. They are in the center of the restaurant. We didn't see any signage stating where to go we were awkwardly standing until the bartender pointed us in the right direction. This place is stunning! Highly recommend for a night cap if you're staying at the American - it's right next door and a cozy little spot. It feels tucked away - almost underground, and is giving major dark academia / golf core. Service was slow when we arrived, but it was PACKED and we learned it was the bartender's first day on the job so understood. The layout of the bar - long and skinny - lends itself to bottlenecks, which is unfortunate because there's so much space in the back with big tables and full dining area. I almost wish this was entirely a bar and didn't have full dining service to accommodate more people! We were bummed that it closed pretty early both nights - we were all looking for a spot to drink after receptions Friday and Saturday and bummed our time was cut short. I haven't been there in a couple of years and needed a place to go for a quick late lunch with friends before a nearby event. Service was excellent. We were seated promptly and served drinks while looking over the menu. I saw offerings from the previous menu and some new ones. One friend had the chopped salad and the other a grain bowl with goat cheese. I asked for the pork schnitzel sandwich without a bun but with a side salad next to it. The waitress and kitchen did not have a problem with my request. All of our lunches were delicious. We couldn't stay as long as we wanted, as we had to be somewhere at a certain time, and the waitress got our bill right away when asked. I'll be going back soon. Love the atmosphere and location. The cheese curds here are to die for. I've grown up in Wisconsin and these are my all time favorite. I personally like them better without the shaved cheese on top so would recommend asking for it without. Club sandwich also delicious. When we entered the bar, the bartenders immediately acted like we had fake IDs and were very disrespectful and passive agressive. Im 25 and my friend is 30 and from Hawaii. She didnt believe he was from Hawaii and even scoffed at him when he told her his REAL address. He had to give them his insurance card as well which they then took their manager to confirm it was real. In the end, the manager decided that the ID was real and he got his drink. Overpriced and Underwhelming. Visited on a Sunday afternoon, there were hardly any patrons, a few tables were filled, but not many. We were a table of 4. The atmosphere was very nice, consistent with the American Club. The service started fine, sodas and water and an appetizer was ordered, but it took nearly 1/2 hour for the waitress to return to take our order, and the appetizer was still not provided. The cheese curds arrived over-breaded, greasy, and cold upon arrival. The entrees were also substandard. My wife's walleye was overdone, greasy, and dry. The mashed potato side looked like it was out of a box. My pasta dish was bland and tasteless; I've had better out of a can. Our guest's hamburger was attractive, but it was a hamburger with the same ingredients one could get at Culvers, and for a lot less than $30. A table of 4 with 4 entrees and an appetizer, 2 sodas and water (no alcohol), came to $145. Very overpriced, large gaps in service, and poor-quality food. Unless you have money to waste and low expectations, find someplace else. read more

I had the perch fry (available only on Fridays) and it was outstanding- French fries were frozen and nothing special. Cheese curds were decadent- hand battered and local cheddar curds.
