We live close but have never really given this place a chance, until recently. So far, I've greatly enjoyed everything we have ordered. Fish n chips are fantastic. I like the way they offer a mix of onion rings and FF Special: stuffed sole with a lobster sauce was Amazing! My husband had serious food envy They have a very interesting swordfish piccata with mushrooms. And fried zucchini appetizer is delicious! French onion soup is consistently good. Arrived at 7pm on Wednesday evening, seated immediately without a reservation. The restaurant has the distinct feel and scent of an older place and is a bit like walking into a time machine. New England is dotted with this kind of restaurant and I am not opposed as long as it's clean. This one mostly is. I ordered a peach and mango sangria and asked to not have sweetened soda added, even without the sprite it was extremely sweet and tasted like fruit syrups are used rather than fruit purée or juice. I opted instead for a house Chardonnay- it was fine and only $5. We were served warm rolls and butter. That's nice and is not as much a part of dining as it used to be. For meals we both got cheeseburgers. I often get a burger in a place I'm trying for the first time as it should be something consistent and an indication of attention the kitchen pays to dishes. These were not great. First the medium done burgers were very wet and the Kaiser rolls were not toasted so the bottom part was soaked, soggy and doughy not at all appealing. The meat had no seasoning- not even salt and pepper. It was cooked on a flattop even though they have a char broiler- I was expecting a charbroiled burger. It also comes without lettuce tomato or anything. The burger is offered with fries or hand breaded onion rings. We each got one of these and they were underdone, more blonde than golden brown. I took mine home to reheat and finish in my air fryer. Our service was fine - but the food quality doesn't encourage us to travel out and spend more on complex entrees based on this experience. read more

My wife and I've been there many times over the years since moving to Franklin in 2014. Service is great - Extremely friendly staff and a cheers like friendly atmosphere (without Norm!) A buddy of mine ordered the salmon and said how great it was - the best salmon he ever had. I thought I would try it and called and ordered the Nut crusted Salmon. It really was amazing. We are very picky about our fish - only wanting the most fresh fish and it didn't disappoint. The salmon was served over. Bed of spinach and in lieu of rice I had mixed veggies. My salmon was perfectly cooked, firm- super fresh and the sauce was delicate and outstanding. My wife had the baked haddock and it was great also. Great breadcrumb topping and the same high quality and cooked to perfection. BTW we thought the portions were very generous and it was a great value. We did take out given social distancing covid stuff and they packaged it extremely well and zero spills on the way home. They noticed as soon as I was out front and ran it right out to our car. Discrimination POST. My partner and I (of 9 years) went to Horse and Carriage tonight... finally. Heard they had great prime rib! Her favorite. Shes an executive chef so its hard to please her with restaurants. We were sat in the lounge and i was personally ecstatic with the menu. Could barely decide on what to order tonight and what to get next time i came because i knew this was going to be our new spot. ordered a couple appys and we were eating our bread n butter... classic! (didnt even have to ask for it). i notice a larger 'gentleman' in the corner booth, laptop and his own personal cup. Both of us being in the food industry over 20 years... I instantly knew that was the owner. We got our apps which were delicious! I was on my second stuffed mushroom when the owner walks by my girlfriend and myself and loudly says " HELLO MEN". my face dropped! i looked up at him then around to see whom he was speaking to when i realized he was parked over our table and i said excuse me?! and he mumbles 'fine ladies' with a chuckle as he walked away! I am so pissed and disappointed. We got our waitress Carrie's attention (very nice) and apologetic after we explained to her what had just happened and that we will pay for the apps and to cancel our entrees...we were absolutely fucking leaving. We still tipped her obv. I wanted to approach him but i was so disgusted by his ignorance, entitlement and behavoir. Monica, the hostess, is always accommodating and remembers everyone when you call and when you arrive. Every waitress is professional and friendly. It's good but basic. The food is basic, a touch conformist, but good. They obviously put effort but nothing is life altering or I need this on the regular - good. Chicken, fish and beef is fresh. They give you a ton of food. They have a boatload of regulars. My pot pie was epic in proportion. The chicken medallions were individually sautéed, the peas fresh shucked and the every other vegetable was fresh but it was just good. Disappointing at best. To begin - wAitress was not very friendly- seemed frazzled. Asked for my sea scallops to be pan seared instead of deep fried- she didn't think they could do it.....so I ordered shrimp pan fried instead. Salads were small but satisfactory- but no ranch dressing. 3 in the group had steaks, all three were cooked incorrectly, 2 undercooked and 1 over cooked, all very tough. Sent the raw steaks back- no apologies from waitress or manager. My husband's veal parm was really small with about a 1/3 if a cup of ziti- and underwhelming. My shrimp was tasty however for 24 dollars I had 5 medium/large shrimp and 5 spears of asparagus. My sister asked for steak sauce- they gave her a bottle with 2 drops in it, when she asked for more/ they were out. Last visit for the 6 of us. read more

This place was a little out of the way from us, but they had Prime Rib on Saturday night so I was in! We arrived and were greeted promptly and our temp taken (good on ya), hands sanitized and off to our table. QR code menu which is fine with me. The interior is a little dated but still quite nice, and shows that this is an old school place which works fine for me. Cocktails were made excellently, not too strong so you can't remember what you ate, not weak and you suck down 3 because it's like drinking soda. Plenty of fresh lime in my Teto's Tonic. Amazing Bloody Mary, and the red sangria was truely outstanding. The Bartender is a pro. Apps: Fried Pickles are a must, they're home made, slightly sweet and come with an outstanding dill ranch dip. The portion is for sharing! We also got the cram Remeck, which was very good but too much with the pickles. On to the prime rib. The English Cut is more like a Queen Cut and comes with an amazing jus that acutally has hints of having real pan drippings and blood in it. YUM! The Mashers and slaw were both also quite good but kind of extra as I tried to finish the steak. Our server was great and personable and attentive. I received a recommendation to go here for the early bird special. I was quickly seated and was immediately approached by our waiter, Michael. He approached the table with warm bread that was very tasty. He was very polite and since we already knew what we wanted (I looked on the website ahead of time) he quickly took our order. He almost immediately returned with our salads and the house dressing was delicious. We had just the right amount of time to finish our salad before the entree was delivered. I had the fish and chips and it was fresh, crunchy coating with great French fries. My mom had then eggplant parmigiana that was also really delicious. Extra yummmmm. Dessert is included and there were lots of options. I chose the ice cream rolled in nuts. It was really good. Michael was an excellent server. His smile lights up the room and was appreciated. My party of four went on a Tuesday evening and were seated immediately (and there were plenty of empty tables). My complaint is with the service -- our waitress was rushed and very inattentive. When our food arrived (brought by a different server), I realized after a minute that my order was completely wrong. We tried to flag down our waitress but she was nowhere in sight. After a few minutes one of my companions went to the hostess to inform her of their error. She took my plate and told me she would correct it, but by the time my correct order arrived my companions were all finished with their meals. The waitress laughed this all off saying my order had been brought to another table and the man who received it really liked it, ha, ha, ha. Not funny to me -- I wound up bringing almost my entire meal home. No sincere apology, no offer of compensation. 5 stars for the BEST independent restaurant throughout the Town Of Norfolk, and most likely the best throughout the Norfolk County! The manager, Natasha is the most friendly, helpful, and kind employee I have met in such a long time. She remembers each and every customer individually, and is consistently happy, funny, friendly and caring of everyone in the restaurant. She really knows exactly how to run a restaurant the right way, and the friendly way, which happens with people few and far between. Jessica, one of the waitresses is also amazing. Super friendly, kind and helpful. She was doing so much on a Saturday evening, and still seemed to get everything correctly in my parties order, and was on top of everything as much as she could be. The bread here is superb, as are all of the meals I have ordered. My personal favorites are the clam roll and the cheeseburgers. I will be back very soon due to the graciousness that Natasha and Jessica both provided at my most recent visit, and have been in the past. Little local townie restaurant and bar off of RT. 1A in Norfolk. Been here a couple times without ever being overly impressed but after my last visit I have to give it an honest review. We were in the mood for some quick bar food. Get some pizza, wings, and beer, that sort of thing and the lady friend had a gift card. The Jerk chicken wings came out absolutely scorched. Not with a little bit of char, but instead with black chucks of carbon breaking off the side. The caramelized onions on the BBQ chicken pizza were BLACK and disgusting, not caramelized. The draft beer was good, pretty hard to mess that up. If you're looking for a better meal in the area go next door to the Eagle Brook Saloon, much better pizza and beer! Love this restaurant. Even on a very busy Saturday night they honored our reservation on time. As soon as we were seated our waitress took our drink order and delivered hot rolls and butter. Drinks were well prepared and generous. Nice extensive menu augmented by a special "inflation fighter" menu with a selection of specials and items from the regular menu at a reduced price. Amazing! Everything we ordered came out hot and prepared perfectly. Our table had the fried clam and coconut shrimp appetizers. The shrimp were some of the best we ever had- both in size and taste. The prime rib, scrod, baked stuffed shrimp, and seafood pasta special were all wonderful and had generous portions. And definitely don't miss the desserts. We told him we weren't in a rush and he said when we were ready to order just stack the menus at the end of the table and he would be over. What a great idea, why doesn't everyone do that? As promised, he was right over when we were ready. Food was delish. Two of us had baked stuffed shrimp and my sister had the scallops. Time to pay - we handed him three cards no problem. A hidden gem. It comes across as maybe an older person type of restaurant but don't let the age demographic fool you. Some of the best steak and seafood around. Have been eating at Horse N' Carriage and getting take out from here for years now. The staff is extremely pleasant and friendly. I enjoy sitting on the bar side to catch the game, but their dinning room is also very nice. An old timey feel in a rather modern world. Takes you back to what a restaurant should look like. Decent food at a good price. With some easy, slight tweaks, this restaurant could take things up a notch. My wife and I visited the Horse N' Carriage over the weekend (1/30/16) around 7:00 PM. The parking lot was quite full and the queue of those waiting for a table indicated that the food had to be half-way decent -- right? We were quoted a 15-20 minute wait time. As we were waiting, we observed another party -- a party of 5 -- say that they had waited nearly 90 minutes for their table. Eventually, they were seated, and we were seated not long after. Our wait time was probably closer to 30 minutes - no big deal, especially compared to that party of 5. After being seated, it's easy to see why a party of 5 (or 6+) would have trouble being seated -- most of the tables in the restaurant were 4-tops. Not unusual, by any means, but a dedicated 6-top or two would help greatly. In order to seat 5, you either had to pull up a chair at a 4-top (not ideal from a customer perspective) or push together two 4-tops (not ideal from a restaurant perspective -- you just essentially gave up a 4-top to a single person). My wife and I immediately noticed we were one of the youngest -- if not the youngest -- couple sitting in the restaurant. Most the other tables were either older couples, or families. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, just an observation. I'd classify it as a "townie restaurant" - you definitely had your regulars that were well-known to the staff. We ordered the fried calamari (Rhode Island style) as an appetizer and a grilled shrimp pizza for our meal. Wait time wasn't too bad, given the apparent volume of the restaurant. When the calamari came out, I wasn't impressed with the presentation. The cup of marinara had spilled over the edge, and the calamari was sitting in what appeared to be water from the banana peppers. The calamari itself was good - good texture and the breading and frying was good. They did themselves a disservice by putting way to much banana peppers on the plate, and then letting the beautifully fried calamari sit in the banana pepper water. The last pieces of calamari were just soggy from sitting in the liquid. Small tweaks -- take care in plating, and drain the peppers before you mix them in with the calamari, and dial back the amount of peppers. The pizza was good, the only downside being the inconsistency of toppings. Some slices were covered with shrimp and others only had a few pieces. When I have pizza, I like to have consistency in bites -- not have one be overwhelmingly full of toppings, and the other to just have cheese. As above, it's just taking a bit more care when preparing to better distribute the toppings. Overall, the food was decent at a good price. We recognize that it's not touting itself to be a 5-star experience, but there are little tweaks that would elevate the experience. We would visit again. read more

Terrible customer service. The management here is awful. Food, mediocre at best. Our check was to be split down the middle (very simple) (50/50) ... my card was charge FOUR TIMES summing up to over $400 for a $99 meal. The management advised me that "this sort of thing happens often" and "that your bank will 'correct' itself after a few days." 4 days later, still don't have my $400 back... but hey, they got paid so they're happy.
