We have been going to Nicky's for years never a problem until today. Very busy. We were third in line for quite a awhile when this other couple came in and went up to the booth that states "Wait to be seated" It looked like she gave her name. So I went up to this teeny bopper who was taking the names...which we NEVER had to do there and I told her we were ahead of the couple that just gave their name, we just didn't know we had to give our names as we never have done this before. She was the rudest person I have come across in a long time and shouldn't be working with the public. She basically said too bad. "I can't verify that" She only saw me standing there for 20 minutes! Nicky's has been our "go to" place for many years. We knew exactly what to expect: Good diner food, competent staff, and fair prices. HOWEVER last week I ordered the scallops like I have done literally a dozen times, expecting them to be cooked perfectly with an adequate portion size. Not so much! This time the scallops were not as good. They were cut in half and the portion was half the size. The prices keep going up. I actually felt insulted when the waitress put the plate in front of me. Service is somewhat slow, but they always have helpers who will get your drinks and drop off your food. The food comes out relatively quickly and it's hot. It's a family diner and that's what you get, good family food, smiling friendly waitresses and irs not super loud, you can converse freely without yelling. read more

Nicky's is remnant of the 1970s. The decor, ambience, menus, absolutely everything is outdated by decades. That's just the beginning... Without question, chef Mike is the head chef at Nicky's. And I don't mean chef Mike by name, I mean chef microwave. Nearly everything is prepackaged or pre-canned. Absolutely nothing is made fresh to order. As clearly visible in the pictures, the beans are canned, the tomato sauce is canned, the gravy is canned, the raviolis are premade the cranberry sauce canned. The only thing that perhaps touched a "chefs" hand is the mozzarella when they either applied a blow torch or placed the food under a salamander to provide the browning to the mozzarella cheese. How this could leave the kitchen, with a culinary trained head, chefs approval is beyond me. Clearly there is not somebody versed in the culinary arts that is allowing this to leave their kitchen without the owners consent. If you are too lazy to warm up some food on your own, do your own dishes, then absolutely, Nicky's the place for you. The food is equivalent to a Swanson's TV dinner nothing more nothing less. No complaints about the service and the pricing is on par with what you would expect. Looking for a cheap, tasteless, mix of prepared, canned foods, then Nicky's place for you! read more

I have ordered seafood from here several times before and it's usually been ok. It was never very tasty as they don't season the batter well but the seafood was fresh which is the most important for me as a consumer. This last time I ordered a seafood plate and didn't eat most of it. I grew up in a restaurant that served fresh seafood plates so I know fresh seafood and I know when my scallops were cooked, sat around, then thrown back in the fryolator to reheat it (no thanks!) I will bet money that the scallops were recooked. The fish itself tasted fishy. I did not eat it. I gave it two stars for the other times I went and the seafood was fresh enough. Nicky's has been open for over 50 years. They are obviously doing something right. Nicky's is a family restaurant that draws a steady crowd. They're known for their fried seafood and ice cream but have many other offerings, including breakfast. This is typical to a lot of places we grew up with having an early closing time. My friend and I were in the area and we were both craving seafood. Our waitress was very attentive. My friend started with a Shirley Temple and I had a Raspberry Lime Rickey! Delicious, brings me back to my childhood. We both got a bowl of Clam Chowder. The chowda was filled with clams and potatoes. We both thought it had a nice flavor but was a little bland. Salt completely fixed that. They might keep the sodium low for their customers. I had one of the specials, it was a Baked Seafood Trio. This was baked scallops, shrimp and haddock in their basic stuffing. The scallops were huge and cooked perfect. The haddock itself was cooked perfect, the stuffing in the fish had very uneven temperatures. Shrimp were cooked nice, but extremely small. The Mashed Potatoes and the Carrots were cooked right. Overall I did enjoy the dish. For the price, the juice was worth the squeeze. If you are in the area it is definitely worth stopping at. read more

They should take the "Steak" off the menu. 1 of my boys doesn't like seafood so he ordered the $20 broiled10oz Strip I tried to steer him away from it and told him to just get chicken fingers but he was having it. When It arrived it was paired with instant mashed potatoes and canned green beans. He took one bite and said it didn't taste right, said it tasted like pool water then gave me a piece to try (oh joy) typically I like when my food has some type of seasoning on it but thankfully there was nothing to mask the meat was bad with a strong metallic flavor. While on a trip up there, friends took me to Nicky's and I was overall satisfied and impressed with the establishment. There is nothing fancy either on the outside or the inside of this restaurant, which I think is part of its charm. It is a simple New England restaurant with a friendly staff and good food. Nicky's has a pretty straightforward menu that you have seen not only throughout Massachusetts, but throughout New England. This is by no means a negative thing, but rather a positive attribute. New England has some great seafood, particularly fried seafood, so that seafood is a great option. All in all, Nicky's is a great option for a meal that makes both the people from Massachusetts and by further extension, the people of New England proud. I would definitely recommend here and I give it an overall rating of five stars. read more

I was in town on business and wanted some whole belly clams and clam chowder. I came across Nicky's and they had decent reviews so I decided to give it a try. When I walked in, the place was packed so I figured it had to be good. The first impression was that it was a very old diner that was in desperate need of a face lift but usually these hole in the wall places have great food. It only took about 10 minutes to be seated but then it seemed like I was forgotten for quite a while although it seemed like they were short staffed. The wait staff that was busy running around did not appear that they any interest in being there but they finally came and took my order. I ordered a large side of whole belly clams, a cup of clam chowder, and a side of fries. The clam chowder came out first and it was hot but it was very runny, bland, and very little clams. The taste vastly improved by adding some salt and pepper but I have had better chowder elsewhere. The clams and fries came out next. The fries were warm at most and had no flavor at all but the clams were absolutely great. The clams were big, lightly breaded, flavorful, and fried to perfection. I would definitely go back to Nicky's to get some great clams but the other items definitely need a lot of improvement. read more

I love a LOCAL IWNED family business that stays current and still makes amazing food. I have had the ice cream here and breakfast here and so much food with decent portions every time. Today it's wicked hot out and I wanted big belly clams and that is exactly what Nicky's sells. The owner welcomes ya when you come in and shows you the new COVID set up and I am impressed. High back boards and removed tables and it looks like perfection for healthy eating. I sat in my booth scanned my menu and I already knew I wanted clams& lime Ricky. Paula who has been here for years big smiles asked how I was doing and made me feel at home. The plate was covered in big belly clams ! Crispy fries and ginormous onion rings. Usually dine here for breakfast, but we came here for a Friday night dinner so we would be near the high school for an evening football game. Place was busy, but we landed a corner table for three. Place is very basic, could use some redecoarating, but the service and food are good. We had a fish dinner, a fish and clam strips dinner and a stuffed pepper dinner. Fish was great, nice batter, large fillet, fries, slaw and a couple of onion rings. Peppers was okay, carrots way over cooked, but baked potato was excellent. Just got a fisherman's platter today Aug 19th 2023 all 4 whole clams were burnt and tasted like old burnt oil. 4 falling apart onion rings, 4 oz piece of haddock cooked to death wow. Little pieces of fries come on people for 32.00 dollars and this was the start of the day at 12:15 pm. The whole belly clams got to me 4 and burnt time to get a new cook and adjust portions. 0 stars just because I just thru 32.00 dollars in the trash. Where to start. GJ for trying I guess. Service was good but the food was Very Disappointing . Restaurant overall was clean'ish. We ordered a fish sandwich, kids-chicken fingers, and a Haddock with shrimp plate and 2 small clam chowders. The haddock was good, but the onion rings were burnt and the fries were soggy. Fish sandwich was as equatable to a slight step up from McDonald's Fish Sandwich, and the clam chowder was runny, tasteless and disgusting . Now the best part was the shrimp which is hard to mess up. I will attach a picture of what Nicky's version of a shrimp is. Overall if u like buffets like Golden Corral and have no real expectations of a good meal then this is your place. For me, I would rather have a microwave dinner from Walmart. It is very obvious the cooks and owners have no pride in their food or restaurant.
