Came to see Maysaa--huge thanks to the Yelp Gods (aka the algorithm!) for connecting me to Glamour by Maysaa. I booked a haircut, highlight, style, and makeup for my little one before picture day. We're still here (it's a longer appointment with all four services), but the experience so far has been lovely. We were warmly welcomed and offered water and coffee right away. The music is on point (lots of Usher and Alicia Keys--yes, please!), the temperature is just right, and the comfy seating up front made the wait feel relaxed and enjoyable. It's been years since my last visit to The Hot Seat. Wheelchair accessible. Plenty of parking. Very modern, clean salon. Today, my stylist was Chelsea Ayer. I got a wash, cut and blow out. Chelsea was super patient because I had to transfer from a wheelchair to the sink chair and then again to the salon chair. It went so well that I burst into happy tears when I got home. I had one of the most stressful salon experiences of my life during a 6-hour appointment with Renee. While I loved the final hair color, everything else about the visit left me uneasy--and I won't be returning. It started off well. Renee was pleasant over the phone, got me in quickly, and sent a waiver to sign. I appreciated her flexibility and was excited to meet her based on Yelp reviews. When I arrived, she greeted me warmly and offered water and snacks. I noticed Christian music playing the entire time, which I personally found distracting and a bit unprofessional for a salon setting. Still, things seemed fine at first. But when we discussed the color I wanted, it quickly became uncomfortable. I showed her a reference photo, but she began asking very technical questions--"Do you want highlights? Lowlights? A root melt?"--that I didn't know how to answer. I just wanted to correct the orange tones and get as close to the photo as possible. She seemed frustrated that I couldn't describe the process, even bringing over a younger stylist and asking her, "What do I do with this?" right in front of me. She also made repeated comments about my hair being thick, damaged, and full of breakage--asking, "What did they do to your hair last time?" in a tone that felt judgmental. I tried to stay polite, but the attitude wore on me. During all this, another client nearby broke down crying. The assistant stylist laughed, and Renee brushed it off by asking if we thought it was "funny when people cry," roping me into an uncomfortable situation. It was awkward and unprofessional. Throughout my appointment, Renee kept walking away to help other clients, leaving me sitting for long stretches. She even had me set timers on my phone to track processing time. When one timer went off and I turned to get her attention, she snapped from across the room, "Yes, I know!"--which shocked me since I'd been nothing but respectful. Later, when rinsing my hair, she seemed flustered and asked for help from other stylists, which only added to my anxiety. I have past salon trauma, and this made it worse. When she finished blow-drying, she asked, "Do you like it?" I could barely see through my wet bangs, but said, "Yes, it looks nice." She replied, "You don't sound convincing," and added, "I don't think you knew what you wanted." I felt embarrassed and small. When I said again that it was beautiful, she said sarcastically, "Oh, I thought you couldn't see it." It was unnecessary and rude. Then she pushed hard for me to buy an $80 K18 treatment, even saying, "Have your boyfriend buy it," when I said I couldn't afford it. It felt like pressure, not a suggestion. The entire appointment was tense. Renee often made snide comments about how "annoying" people are, and it felt like she was including me. She was dismissive whenever I tried to make light conversation, though her tone improved once I was paying. Before I left, Miriam curled my hair and accidentally dropped the hot iron on my head and lap. I reassured her it was okay--accidents happen--but it added to the stress. The last 30 minutes were chaotic. The earlier client who had cried became extremely upset, yelling at her stylist and refusing to pay. The stylist asked Renee for help, but Renee ignored it, focused on taking photos of my hair. The client eventually shoved her stylist multiple times outside the salon, and the stylist asked me to call the police. It was a surreal and unsettling moment to witness as a customer. In the end, I paid $500 and sat there for six hours. While I truly loved the final color and appreciated that Renee honored her quote, the emotional stress and uncomfortable environment completely overshadowed the result. TL;DR: Renee is talented, and if you only care about the end result, you might like her work. She mentioned she's been a professional stylist for about a year and a half, though she practiced as a hobby before that. But if you value professionalism, calm energy, and respectful communication, I'd look elsewhere. I left feeling exhausted, anxious, and emotionally drained. She really got to know my hair and know what I like and what I don't like. I booked an appointment with Mariam a month in advance and confirmed directly with her. On the day of my appointment, I texted her to confirm and she left me on read. No reply, nothing. So I called the salon and to my surprise they told me Mariam wasn't even in that day and that she had scheduled me with someone else. No heads up, no courtesy message, nothing. I had an event to go to that day so I had no choice but to go anyway. When I got there, the place was totally disorganized. One girl, who was actually super sweet, was doing everything, answering phones, washing hair, running around, etc. She looked so overwhelmed, and because the stylist I got stuck with last minute was running late, this poor girl had to help do my hair...and she's not a stylist. When the actual stylist finally started, I showed her exactly what I wanted, and she just couldn't get it right. I had to keep guiding her through every step, and at that point I just gave up and settled for whatever so I could leave. I'd already been there way too long. Paid 80 bucks for one of the worst salon experiences I've ever had. And Mariam? Completely unprofessional. She didn't bother to tell me she wouldn't be there because she took a bigger job that day. Fine, go take your other client, but at least have the decency to let me know so I can decide if I want to reschedule. I will never go back and honestly wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
