We had dinner at Recipe this week. I had the fettucini Alfredo with blackened shrimp. It came with a side salad and a breadstick. The service was good. The owner made me his favorite dish & it's the grilled chicken stuffed roll with a chipotle sauce over rice & wow was it tasty! Grilled chicken Caesar is always a great staple! Driving thru North Carolina on my way to Raleigh, my friend and I stopped off and spent the night in Salisbury. Grabbed dinner at Recipe. Not very busy but cozy and excellent service. Our server, I forget her name, was the epitome of hospitality and service. She anticipated our needs (refills, to go containers etc) - chatted about the history or the restaurant and town - providing suggestions not just for dinner but attractions on our way to our destination. She was just so very cool. The food was great - I opted for Greek Spaghetti. Different than I've had before but enjoyed it all the same. It was like the flavor was liquid or broth form, pooled at the bottom of the dish. Another version I had was dry, like Pesto. Anyway - when I figured out all the goodness was at the bottom of the plate - it was all over from there. Mixed it up a little. Toss in a little crushed red peppers for taste. Then inhaled it all until it was all gone. The al dente noodles. Charred chicken. All just right. The service for me made it an excellent experience. Food was good and I enjoyed it enough that if I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely stop in - but not before trying other places first. But if I lived in the area, I'd be a regular. read more

I ate lunch here for the first time today and it was a wonderful experience! The waiter was friendly and very efficient and kept making sure we had everything we needed. The place was very clean and simply and elegantly decorated. The food was delicious and the pasta salad was the best I've ever had. I didn't see very many plates that weren't clean! Such a cute little spot in town! I will say, the entrance and seating process is a little clunky and could be improved with a hostess stand, instead of yelling across the room, but, that aside, my meal was delicious! The service was great and the pricing is totally reasonable. read more

Such delicious food.... I'll get to the rest but I had the Greek Spaghetti with angel hair pasta. I haven't had this family dish in many years but here it was like being at my Nana's table again. Our service and server so patient and friendly! I am remiss not retaining her name but a great laugh... And as it was a girlie day, my granddaughter opted for the buffalo chicken wrap with cucumber salad. She had no complaints as she slowly devoured it. Yum her only word. Ok I just found my favorite place to eat in all of Salisbury. I've been to a lot of places while my daughter has been doing theater practices here but oh my, I wish I came to this place long ago because it would be my only place to eat all these days. It's right inside of town. It's a nice warm place. And the people are very nice and accommodating. The menu is PURE GOLD. I had a terrible time picking what I wanted becuase there were soooooooo many great options. I'll have to come back to try others on the menu. But for today I got The Recipe Chicken Roll which is stuffed fried chicken breast with cheese, ham& slices. Served over rice and topped with homemade creamy chipotle sauce. I'm speechless. This was so good. I absolutely loved this meal. I got to come back and try more things. 5 stars. Best in town!! read more

5 Stars - A Hidden Gem in Downtown Salisbury My friend and I were in Salisbury for the car cruise and expected food trucks or vendors, but there weren't any. That's how we ended up at Recipe, one of the few spots open downtown--and I'm glad we did. The food was outstanding. My friend ordered a cheeseburger with fries and couldn't stop talking about how good it was. I went with the club sandwich, and I can honestly say it's the best one I've ever had. The restaurant itself was clean and quiet, with a relaxed atmosphere. The staff did an excellent job--friendly, attentive, and welcoming without being overbearing. This place is amazing! The atmosphere was causal and yet elegant. Pricing wasn't outrageous. And the food was so good! Some of the best food I have had here since moving from the west coast. We enjoyed our meal. My chicken Alfredo came with a side salad and breadstick (you choose if you and mushrooms or broccoli in it. The pasta was very tender and tastes like fresh pasta. The sauce flavor was a little light. My husbands Mediterranean chicken came on a bed of rice with two sides and a breadstick. The portion sizes were huge. The food tasted good. Service was nice. We tried something different today and heard about this little Bistro, if you want a small, quaint place to enjoy some delicious and unforgettable food this is your place. I would have posted pictures of the food but it tasted amazing. Our waitress did amazing and never let our glasses empty, she recommended some item but ensured us that we could choose any item on the menu and it would be excellent. Me being a non seafood/fish person and not fond of it but I want to try the Blackened Salmon not sure why but it caught my eye. I have a new found love for it here and will be making that trip again soon. I am still think should I come back tomorrow and get it again it is that good. My wife did the Alfredo with chicken and she enjoyed it and it was a large portion. I would recommend this amazing restaurant to all my friends, family.... New restaurant in downtown Salisbury! They have a variety of items on the menu and it was hard to pick. I was torn between the Greek spaghetti or the Caesar wrap and ended up going with the wrap. I love all things Caesar and this was yummy and full of tasty chicken. My friend got the recipe salad and blue cheese dressing and enjoyed her meal as well. We were hanging out in down Salisbury and decided to try Recipe for lunch. The building is part of the historic downtown so it is very unassuming on the outside. Upon entering we were greeted quickly and offered a table. This is a very casual setting, so we were very comfortable here. The menu is large, and there is a variety of options to choose from, so we had no trouble finding something good. We tried the Veggie Quesadilla, the Chicken Philly, and the Chicken Gyro. We also ordered the fresh brewed tea. So good. I really like house made iced tea! Portions were very big and so delicious. This was our first time in and we had a good experience! The only thing I would recommend is maybe add some more decor to the dining room. I think it needs some color and some decor on the walls. It seems a little plain. After waiting 25 minutes for a seat the waitress did not have the skills of observation ( her job for customers is service) to notice and gave another couple the next open seat, then said "Oops nobody told me." I also noticed while waiting that she was very slow and in attentive to the customers that were seating, and took a long time to even take one couples order. It's a very pleasant place for lunch. My wife had the veggie quesadilla and I had the french dip sub. The sub was plenty big enough for me. The meat was sliced thin and tender. The dip was perfect. The quesadilla was excellent according to my wife. Prices are reasonable and service was great. Downtown Salisbury was hoppin' for a Thursday afternoon. Oh!- And FYI for the big city of W-S: parking is easy and free in downtown Salisbury. Parking is also free in Lexington, Rural Hall, King, Pilot Mtn, Statesville, K-Ville and most everywhere else we go for lunch. Service so bad it was bizarre. I can't even explain it. We sat at the table finished with dirty dishes waiting on the bill forever. We put on our coats. It's not busy. Our waitress and another woman are hanging out behind the bar. I figured maybe we paid at the bar. So I went up and asked if I needed to pay up there and was told "either one". So I said I can just pay here and can I please have a box. The one woman turned around and walked away without speaking and went in the back and my waitress rung up a to go order behind me. I stood there another five minutes with my credit card in my hand while the one woman hid in the back and my waitress did not speak to me and walked away and drew on a chalkboard. I asked my family if I was indeed visible and existing and they assured me I was. I wondered if perhaps these women had me confused with someone else who shot their dog or slept with their husbands. You could serve the best food on earth but I would rather wrestle a half eaten chicken leg from a raccoon in a dumpster than deal with rudeness at this level.
