My friends and I decided to go to the house pub last night to end the night. We went to the upstairs bar first and the last call is at 1:30, but the upstairs bartender had said "you guys can all go downstairs until 2." We head downstairs and order our drinks and a bouncer comes over to us (with completely full drinks in our hands) and says "cmon, last sip, get the fuck out" and we laughed thinking it was a joke and he says "I'm not kidding, that's your last sip" and takes my boyfriends drink out of his hand and starts forcefully pushing him out of the door. He then comes back in and picks me up and takes me outside. I have never seen anything like this. I understand having to get people out by a certain time, but then they shouldn't have let us purchase those drinks. I will never step foot in this place again and that disappoints me because it was a fun time until that incident. read more

Definitely a superb beer selection for a place in the burbs. Tons of local selections as well as ones from all over the country. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how big your beer selection is if you have horrible service. We waited and waited for a drink at the bar. Place was a little busy so okay, I understand. After about 10 mins and several direct eye contacts with the bartenders, another random patron flags him down for me and says that we need to be served. The bartender proceeds to yell at this guy telling him he's the only one behind the bar (not true) and he can't get to everyone. This random guy says he is a bartender elsewhere and just felt it was completely unacceptable the way they were treating people. A few people left and we ended up just getting seats at the bar. Sounds great right? Nope, we continued being ignored, judged, and just flat out disrespected by the both of the bartenders there. We left after our second beers. After observing their interactions with a lot of other people, we realized if you are not one of their "friends" or you are not deemed "cool enough" by their standards, you will be treated poorly! read more

Finally a bar that takes what it means to be a bar seriously . . . If i had to sum up The House Pub in one word honestly its "Appreciation." They really have perfected the balance between the craft of beer making and enjoyment while still maintaining a heart for talent. From its products to its artist's to the simple fact of what it means to be human and to walk in somewhere and have the feeling of i could belong here. Like i said the very reason why bars exist in the first place. Factually they have a perfect staff the biggest beer selection i've ever seen and a constant rotation of music that keeps you guessing and an upstairs and downstairs bar that are worlds apart. Its funny going to the house pub reminds me back when i was 18 trying to sneak into a jazz lounge in cincinnati called the blue whisp just to be able to go somewhere and hear good music. So to the owners and the staff my hat is off to you and most importantly thank you for doing something different while still maintaining roots for class. read more

Beer selection is fab, service is shite, but the worst part is that the bartenders systematically pour 1/4 to 1/3 less than they advertise. Whatever they post on Beer Menus is false; 16 oz is 12 oz, 12 oz is 8 oz, etc. And when you call them on it, they claim it's the glass that management told them to use. Nonsense. If you want an honest pub, go to Geneva instead. This place is rubbish. read more

I've been to this dive bar a few times now, every time it's perfect. I can pop a squat at the bar, have a Tank 7, and just drink my beer. Even get some popcorn, and I love popcorn and I can eat as much as I want. So, this place hits the spot. Not too crazy, plenty of character, and just right with good beer and good people working there. Bartender Mike's the best. This place never fails. read more

A bunch of us went to the amateur comedy show upstairs and then watched the blues band downstairs on a Friday night. Comedy was ok, the host for the comedy team was really nice and so were the bartenders. They even returned my brand new lost iPhone which I really appreciated. The Linsey Alexander band was amazing, so much fun to watch. The only downside was that you're not allowed to bring the popcorn upstairs and the manager was kind of a jerk about it. Hands down best bar in St. Charles by a landslide. But if you're a douche bag, the other bars are more your thing. There's at least 5 of them on 64 there to welcome your douchy-ness. If you pass the douche test, stop in for an amazing selection of craft beer and live music, and of course a douchebag free zone, which is rare in St. Charles. If I lived anywhere near here, you would probably never be able to get me out of this place. Seriously. Came in after work with some coworkers post-work-Olympics at a nearby park. Got seriously dizzy from the beverage listing on the chalkboards behind the bar. The options are nearly endless - lots of bottles and a decent number of items available on tap. So we were perusing the labels under the glass on the bar and lo and behold, there was a label from a beer that I wanted to try but that you really can't find anywhere and that made me sad. One of my compatriots decided to ask if they had it and my knee-jerk was "there's no way - this is only here to torture me to death". To our shock, we were told there were a couple of bottles left and I was nearly vibrating out of my seat with excitement. Was the mark-up ridiculous? Sure. Was it worth it? In my eyes, I have never tasted anything better so heck yes. Lesson learned: always ask. Anyway, lots to try, good service, decent atmosphere and somewhere I'd be glad to come back to. Best beer bar in St. Charles, hands down! I love the beer chalkboard that arranges each beer in to the different types of beer... makes it easy to decide what new kind you want to try. Butters and Dee are awesome bartenders too, and they always give away free hugs! (Well, not always, but if you're nice.) They have some cool bands playing too, although sometimes if you're sitting at the bar and there's a band playing, it gets a little hard to talk. Get here early on a weekend if you want a seat because they fill up fast! What I like about this spot is that it's a great "chill" spot. It's not pretentious or filled with dirties & dbags, it's just a great spot to go grab a great beer and listen to some music. An added bonus to this place - there's a very trendy Martini bar upstairs with leather couches and a DJ that is usually playing something you can bob your head to. read more

Can't beat the beer selection. Staff is helpful and not uptight/beer snobs. Trust and let them guide you through the immense menu of beers. Only wish they had some form of grub, if only bar munchables like pickled eggs, sausage, etc. that wouldn't require work in the kitchen.
