This place was a big disappointment. We received our food and the toast was burnt, the bacon was so burnt and it was inedible and you could crack a tooth on it, and the French toast was egg bread. For the French toast it was bread with the top layer of egg as if nothing soaked in and they didn't know how to actually cook it. Our waitress never even asked how our food was because she knew how bad it was. She saw everything burnt and didn't say anything and saw that our plates were barely eaten yet took them away without asking how things were. read more

Enjoyed the potato pancakes today! I normally don't like nutmeg, but in the pancakes it wasn't bad. They make the potato pancakes nice and crispy, just how a potato pancake should be! The only thing that I don't like is that they won't sell them separately, you have to order the meal (comes with eggs). So if you want an omelet or another dish, then you're purchasing two meals. I just have them wrap up the eggs and I take them home for my pup to eat. I took two of my friends here for their first time and we all cleaned our plates! My one friend ordered a mimosa and said it was amazing -- a lot of restaurant mimosas, the juice will be thicker and/or have pulp in it, this juice was thinner and there was just enough for the orange flavor but had plenty of champagne! (I like a server that doesn't skimp on the alcohol!) My other friend enjoyed their coffee and said it was not watery, not too strong. I had a Pepsi. I'm so glad they offer Pepsi products! Their bloody Mary is made with rice wine, because they dont have their liquor license. So if you want vodka in it, bring a flask. (Just kidding. Or am I?) More like 3.5 stars..... I was first intrigued by the menu and the variety of choices they had for breakfast. Made plans initially to go for breakfast but got held up to more of a brunch time this past Sunday. Boy, was it packed! A wait list is made based on "the honor system" and it was kind of frustrating to see several smaller parties seated before us, but eventually our 5 top got seated. After the stress of the crowded waiting area, I got a Pineapple Mimosa ($7) which hit the spot. Several breakfast items were ordered including my Fungi omelet , served with several varieties of mushrooms and Swiss cheese ($13) . Our table had mixed reviews of the food..... to be honest, I was a bit disappointed in my omelet, I only tasted regular and maybe portobello mushrooms in there, no Shiitake mushrooms to be seen (plus it was kind of small for the money). My dad didn't care for the thick cut bacon on his sandwich, as it wasn't very crispy. But my aunt really enjoyed her Eggs Benedict, which did look delicious. And I did really enjoy the Rooster decor and layout of the actual dining room. My wife found this gem on yelp, so excitedly, we drove on our way to Canada to try it for brunch. 1. Amazing brunch food... 5 Stars 2. HORRIBLE service - Our waitress (Haley) seemed annoyed that she had to wait on us. No pleasantries after we were kind and excited about our first vacation brunch, straight off our flight. After our brunch my wife asked for water to go. She stated she would charge us for the cup (we happily accepted and understood). She then comes back with a take home box. My wife again, nicely asked for a to-go cup of water. She then comes back with an empty cup. I then politely stated, there must be a miscommunication, my wife wanted a cup of water with ice and a straw to go. Haley then rolled her eyes and rudely grabbed the cup and walked away. She then came back and I said, thank you and she again walked away without a word. Very UNPROFESSIONAL, and UNACCEPTABLE, especially when we were very polite and courteous paying customers. The Howling Rooster is by far one of my favorite spots. I went a few weeks ago with my friends after we went to a local event. We sat on the patio and it was lovely. I got a fish fry and it was one of the best I've had in the area. It was huge and the sides were delicious. There is a weekly karaoke night starting as we were about to leave that seemed like a lot of fun. I wish we could have joined in, but I had to be up early the next morning, but I definitely plan on coming back for it soon! read more

Went here after reading reviews and thought it would be a great experience. When we walked in we waited about 5 mins to be seated, it was a little busy. We got seated by the bar in a high top, good music and vibes at first. The waiter let us know it was busy which was fine, put our drink and appetizer in, came back in 15 mins took our order which was chicken wings and the special jerk chicken salad, they don't have chicken wings on fish fry due to no room for wings in fryers, ordered fish fry instead, another 10-15 mins go by the waiter returned to let us know they ran out of fish and gave us the menu. Came back in 10 mins put our order in again. We waited almost 2 hours! Just when I asked for the check our food came out. We both were so disappointed in the food and the waste of our time! I wish I could give this 1 star, but unfortunately you can't give separate reviews for the service and the actual people who made the food. Came here twice and the first time they have a strange method of where the host, usually a kid in the front will seat you in sections based on a waitress that isn't on their "break". This means you cannot request to sit where you want and if you insist, we were told that we would have to wait 45 minutes for the waitress to get off break to be served at a specific table. The second time we came we requested a corner table and the host had to take our drinks. Then 5 minutes later an older woman with black hair came over, did not introduce herself and took our order with an attitude. We did not see her at all until we had to ask the host who was cleaning a table for the check. No check up and drink refills from this waitress. I had asked for extra sour cream on the side with my taco omelette which was phenomenal, but ended up being charged $1.29 extra. When asking the waitress towards the end about this she insisted that she wanted the name of this waitress who didn't charge me last time for the extra sour cream a month ago and wanted to contact "upper management", when she did not even tend to us during our meal besides take our order. We noticed she had one other table as well and did not tend to them either. At this point we just gave up on the expectations of good service, and had requested take out boxes for our leftovers from the host. We still had lots of food left and were given two 16 oz soup containers for breakfast food. When asked for more reasonable containers to fit our food so it actually fits and doesn't get smushed together, we then got brown cardboard boxes. At this point this was pretty disgusting to us and wasn't acceptable. We asked the host one last time and we were given aluminum foil with what looked ljke hotdog containers from a hotdog stand?? We just used those and kept in the cardboard boxes so it wouldn't stick to the box. This was hard to believe as the first time we came we had an actual takeout container, and I doubt if they did delivery they would put food presented like this. Overall from the other reviews i've read, it seemed like an uncomfortable atmosphere from the service to dine here even for brunch. The food however, was great. They have an amazing Hollandaise Eggs Benedict and their Taco Omelette is uniquely put together really well. The real tips go to the chefs. read more

Our order consisted of fried chicken dinner with vegetable of the day (again, server did not know what it was)... Meals came out late because "they had to wait for chicken to be cooked". Chicken dinner came and it was BURNT. BURNT beyond belief. Server said "oh, ok, do you want another order or something else?". For obvious reasons, I did not opt to get another meal. The food was delicious - I would give the food 4 or 5 stars, honestly. I ordered an omelette and it was very tasty. Several of my friends also ordered omelettes, and we all raved about the fluffy eggs and scrumptious fillings. Basically, the food is on point and needs no adjusting. However, the service that we experienced was lacking and left us generally dissatisfied with our visit. I came here with a group of friends, about 7 people. Although we were seated quickly, we were not helped for what seemed like a long period of time. When we did order, our food came out at different times - some received their meals several minutes before others. We had to ask several times for basic things like refills on water and ketchup. At the end of the meal, we were informed that the bill could not be split (not even two ways) because of the cost that the business incurs upon swiping a credit card. I don't know how much this cost is, but several other restaurants do this on a regular basis. Luckily, one person was able to pay for the entire table, and arrangements were made later to pay that person back. This is something that the staff should tell large groups at the beginning of the meal because there could be a situation in which an even larger group comes in, and one single person cannot afford to pay for everyone. read more

Went to the Rooster at lunchtime last week. We sat on the patio and the music playing was very loud and certainly not easy listening. We asked the waitress to change the music or please turn it down. She returned and told us that this was the music the owner wanted to play and she would not change it. (it was bluesy type music) They never did turn the volume down and we asked to be moved inside. (pesky bees were another reason but not the restaurant's fault) They seated us inside at a table in the corner the music was still playing over head and a fan was turned on so high that we were now cold. We moved ourselves to another table with no fan or speaker over our heads. Food was okay but not great. They probably consider us the patrons from hell but when you can't hear each other speak and are freezing indoors you are not left with a good experience! Owner should be more flexible with her music choice and appeal to the masses. Most people don't want to hear the blues at noon, maybe at dinner when you could have a drink or two! Updating since my original review was from 2 years ago and since then the location and staff have changed. The food remains amazing. I also tried the Bellini which was mango and pineapple and amazing. This morning I had the 2's- pancakes sausage and eggs. Everything was cooked well. Wife had the Greek skillet. Somehow I never wrote a review for this place and I've been here a number of times. They are in a new location now which is good because the old place was rather small. They can accommodate many more now with a larger and thoughtfully arranged dining area. It was really busy with a 20 minute wait when we came. This place is obviously gaining in popularity. We also had a longer wait for out food than one might expect but as always, it was worth it. The food here is amazing; every plate beautiful with plentiful portions for the price. This time I had the Benedict Arnold; poached eggs resting atop sausage patties seated on fluffy biscuits smothered in sausage gravy with a side of homefries. I wanted to but couldn't finish the entire serving. I've had other eggs Benedict here as well and their signature Roo-ben omelette combining corn beef, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese in a unique and tasty omelette. I've also had the french toast which is delicious. Mimosas are $12 for a mini bottle of champagne and a glass of orange juice so I passed on that. But the food is great with a quaint, relaxed atmosphere. Aside from the regular menu, there will be some specials on the chalkboard as well. This was another great find for me thanks to the reviews and recommendations of a few friends here. They are not open for dinner so get there for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. read more

Pretty good place. Would give 4 stars, but had to drop one due to food. Service is usually good. Quick and attentive. Never really had an issue with service. I've mainly had breakfast here and they do a good job. Good pancakes, good french toast, good eggs, and good portions. I made a mistake of getting chicken and waffles though. It was pretty bad. The chicken (chicken tenders) and waffles was covered in the maple like gravy that had more of a gravy consistency. I thought it was the gravy at first but after eating the chicken by itself, it had a pretty good flavor. The waffle was the culprit. The batter was very offsetting and the waffle itself had char marks on the ridges. It was almost like it was fried in the fat or gravy. The burned taste was very bitter and pretty awful. The Howling Roster is one of my favorite breakfast spots. I've been here a number of times and each time I'm very pleased. Most recently was this past Wednesday morning, the weather was nice and the patio was open. I will say the woman who sat us didn't ask if we'd prefer inside or outside which I thought was strange and just sat us inside. I didn't mind so much though as it was less busy inside. Our waiter was great, very friendly and attentive. What I love about here is that they have different specials all the time, and they get creative with them! You can get your traditional egg dishes, pancakes/french toast, etc or you can try something new. My boyfriend and I both tried something from the specials menu. He had the Breakfast Sammy, which was different than the breakfast sandwich on their every day menu. He said it was delicious. The eggs inside were scrambled with white cheddar but also held together enough to stay in the sandwich. The sausage was a thick size rather than some skinny slices you can get places. And the roll was a longer roll toasted perfectly. I ordered the power bowl breakfast which was a daily special; I wanted something a little lighter. Homefries were on the bottom, then veggies that we're seasoned deliciously, then scrambled eggs on top with melted cheese then toast on the side. When it first came out I had second thoughts on my healthy choice after seeing his sandwich but after my first bite that all went away. It was wonderful!! He took a bite of mine and agreed. Coffee is good here and they offered refills twice. If your dish comes with homefries they will ask you if you'd like onions and peppers cooked in with them. I think that's fantastic because I love to add that yet my boyfriend would skip it, so great to have the option. I noticed they had a small flyer on the table mentioning they have live music on the patio every Thursday evening for the summer which is really cool. Can't wait to go back for bfast soon! read more

After coming back from a trip to Thailand, we needed some nice American breakfast foods to satisfy our gluttonous bellies. The Howling Rooster gave in exactly to our craving and desires. We ordered the infamous "ROO-ster", biscuits and gravy w/ eggs, and French toast with cinnamon apples. We finished everything. On top of this food, we got a continuous stream of coffee provided. Other notes: -We arrived at 10am on Saturday and it was very busy. -We waited less than 5 minutes for our table for 2. The hostess was apologetic for the wait. -Our bill came to about $30 for all the food and drinks. -The portions are generous-- You're gonna be rolling out of the restaurant. -Food came out in good time. -Clean, welcoming, rustic and quaint environment. -Our waitress was friendly and the busboy was polite. Loved the old location on Kenmore Ave, but the new location on Englewood is even better! I've been here multiple times with friends, family, co-workers & colleagues, always a winner! Their open chicken sovlaki salad is amazing and this is one of the few places that cooks their chicken to perfection, always juicy and seasoned well. Other places where I've tried sovlaki the chicken tends to be over cooked. I've also had a number of items of their breakfast menu as well. And they serve breakfast until they close in early afternoon.. it's always nice to have the option to eat French toast or an omelette for lunch, ya know? Anyway the new location is even cuter than the last, more updated with that same country rooster style. As pictured, you can see they have high top and regular top tables and a nice sliding barn door added to their decor. They still feature the specials on chalkboards on the wall as well! The service is still great as always, with their quirky and personal waitresses. Makes you feel like a regular even on your first time. Great lunch spot! Formerly a very small restaurant on Kenmore Ave, moving into what used to be Milano's on Englewood was the smartest thing Howling Rooster could have done for themselves. They have come such a long way. Not only one of Tonawanda's best breakfast spots, but expanding their dinner offerings to 3 nights a week: Thurs, Fri and now Sat. Everyone has already raved about breakfast. I will cast my vote for 2 of my favorite dinner offerings - the Pot Roast and the Fish Fry. The pot roast - 3 huge slices (not chunks), so tender it is like eating prime rib. A co-worker will drive in from Hamburg for their pot roast. The fish fry - flaky, moist, and my preference, a panko breaded option besides the usual beer batter. Coleslaw or Homemade mac salad - with carrots, celery & onion - just the right amount of crunch. German potato salad, with generous amounts of bacon is offered as a french fry alternative. Don't let the amount of cars in the lot or parked nearby in the street deter you from visiting. The interior is way bigger than it looks, and if there is a wait time, it won't be long. Try them, of course for breakfast. So much to choose from. And then dinner! Oooh that pot roast! read more

Arrived on time for our brunch reservation that was confirmed the night before with my credit card, expecting our table to be available (silly me). Was treated rudely by the hostess and not seated until 30 minutes after our reservation. Granted it was busy for Father's Day and we had a party of 9 but that's why you make a reservation, right? Lots of apologies, which was kind of a joke. After we placed our orders it took over an hour to get our food. Mind you none of the orders were complicated. Basic egg breakfast dishes and a burger. The dining room was clearing out as we sat there so not sure why the kitchen couldn't handle it. Food was average and nothing to write home about. As we were leaving the hostess (who may be an owner) apologized again and made all kinds of excuses for her behavior and our poor experience. Additionally, there was a "3% non-cash adjustment" charge added to our bill for using my credit card for payment which I later researched is ILLEGAL in NYS!
