Fantastic place with great food, dessert and gift shop! This place exceeded our expectations. After a long day hiking and exploring Glacier National Park we stoped to grab a bite. The hamburgers with Huckleberry BBQ sauce were excellent! Then came dessert. Yes, if you're in town you need to stop by and try their huckleberry pie with huckleberry ice cream for roughly $6. It's truly excellent! We watched as the line increases and decreased throughout the hour but it's always steady. We then spent some time in the gift shop. This pie is delicious. My review is about their piss poor service. The girl with the nose ring needs a few courses in customer service. She acted like we were annoying her and when we asked for something and she'd roll her eyes. Definitely did not go out of the way to help you or get you anything you asked for without attitude. We got a whole pie and a scoop of ice cream so I asked for 2 plates because we were eating there, she gave me 1. Then I asked for another because we'll there's 2 of us and you would of thought we were inconveniencing her. The kitchen was closed of course so there was no food other than ice cream and pies. We went there one night at 6 (summer ) and they were already closed even though it said they closed at 8. Lots of angry people followed. I love this place. I has the pulled pork with their homemade huckleberry sauce. It was delicious. The portion size was enormous. It felt like they gave me a lb of pork! I also had the huckleberry milkshake which was also delicious. They have samples of their huckleberry jam, preserves, honey, apple butter, and candy sticks. Everything was great. Originally planned to stop here for lunch and dessert but on arriving there was a sign that said there would be long waits for food so we opted just to get pie. We were grateful we did as just for the pie and ice cream we had to probably wait 15-20 minutes though I never lower my rating due to this as I understand how difficult staffing is. The huckleberry pie was so delicious and tasted like it had a homemade crust. The ice cream was sweet and creamy and the perfect addition and was a definite necessity. My only complaint was that the pie was served cold which is kind of a bummer. Nothing beats warm pie with ice cream so it was a little bit of a let down. The gift shop next door had some great souvenirs and was fun to poke around. I can't say the staff at either the store or the restaurant were particularly friendly though I don't let that effect my ratings as it's generally not the business' fault and everyone has bad days. And I know it's not a blueberry but it's very similar but smaller. I felt I tasted more of the ice cream than the huckleberry? Maybe if more fruit was added it would be better? Yum! I needed to work for the day and the Huckleberry Patch was one of the only places in Hungry Horse that would allow me to. Last year my wife wanted to stop at this impassible to miss place on our many trips in and out Glacier National Park. I was always in too much of hurry to oblige her requests. This year, travelling with with my wife, brother and father I was out-voted so stopped we did. I'm glad I did. It is a fun shop and you could browse for quite some time, but what impressed me the most was the breakfast we had. After perusing the menu, we ALL settled on the number 7: A huckleberry pancake, an egg, a piece of thick-cut bacon and a sausage, all for about $5. It was delicious and definitely worth it. I washed it down with a cup of huckleberry coffee. Other things worth noting: You can buy fresh huckleberries here. The ice cream is made on-site, as are many of the back goods. My father was so impressed with the food, he vowed to buy a pie on way back to Kalispell. At $30, it is likely the most expensive buy we will ever buy, but the pie was pure quality, and pure huckleberry. No fillers, just a bit of corn starch and sugar, the pie was tart and not too sweet. It was a hit at the dinner we attended that night. If I were to ding The Huckleberry Patch for anything it's the fact that we spent over $20 on three different sales and were never told that a $20 sale should net us a free bag of licorice. We learned this later while reading The Huckleberry Patch newspaper, which was interesting and informative. Bottom line: I won't pass it by again, but I will check for specials on my own first. PS. Yes, this place is very touristy. However, the prices are no worse than you will find elsewhere, and they will usually have what you want. Parking is a bit limited. The fudge is very good and the huckleberry ice cream (shakes, etc.) is what makes the whole trip worthwhile. They also have an online presence, http://www.huckleberrypatch.com/ so you can order from them even if you are not near Glacier Park or in the Flathead Valley of Montana. I have never eaten lunch here, but I would expect it to be average (at best). This is a place to stop for souvenirs, desserts, and impulse buys. read more
